You have probably reached out to Wise bloggers here on Steemit asking them how they grew their blog
And most have probably have told you
Comment on the post of others
Most people still don't know the Importance of commenting on the post of others, it is so amazing that @papa-pepper made a full post explaining how he used comments to grow his blog early this year
The advice sounds so simple, the only problem is that most are not really sure what a good Comments look like
Is it one that tells the Author how awesome he/she is? Or One that argues a different view? Or is it One that simply thanks the Author for sharing his Insights
Because while many Blogging 'gurus' tell you to comment, few really tell you how to do it. I have been guilty of that too so this post is aimed at teaching you everything I know about commenting
Due to ignorance about commenting, many Steemians are spending time churning out comments that they think are awesome, but in reality they are just drowning themselves in the sea of sameness
Now before I go further I want to state an Important point, though commenting is a great way to build relationship with any Blogger, you have to also take notice of Piranhas
A Piranha is a Steemian who never replies to comments
Commenting on a Piranhas blog is a total waste of your time, they are either people who just blog to pass out Important Information and have no time or desire to build relationships or people whose sole aim is just to earn Steem
Only comment on Blogs of people like this if you have an Important message that will be of value to others that will read the post, but if your aim is to build a relationship then you are in for a long wait
When you are commenting on the blog of someone, you want them to notice you and reply to your comment. Your secret desire is for them to also visit your blog, follow you and upvote all your future posts
That will not be possible if your comments don't attract them in the first place, I checked Steem Spectacle this morning and all my top followers and rewarders are people I got through commenting
Also note that you have to back quality content with quality posts, so that when the person ends up visiting your blog they will find something there to confirm that your are a Genius
The Popular Mistakes That Creates Uninspiring Comments
Non- Existent/ Novelty Profile Picture
While it is true that Steemit is a decentralized platform and that most people still like to keep their privacy, but is wrong for you not to put a profile picture on your blog or for you to use a very rampart picture as your profile picture
The worst is the faceless silhouette that comes with the account, that screams generic and unserious blogger
If you like to look real and sharp and still keep your Privacy, use a bright looking and fun Profile Picture like @greenrun
People will respond more to your comments if you feel and look more Human, even @stellabelle's bot Umami have a nice looking profile picture
2..
Poorly Thought Out User-names
@ned and @dan loving made it possible for us to use custom names as our usernames, for those who don't realize this yet. Your Steemit account name serves as both your username and your wallet address
But some people have taken it upon themselves to make their Steemit username look like a Bitcoin Wallet address. It is not strange to see your Steemit usernames that looks like this @the9ssi5n. Well if you are a newbie then I advice you to open a new account with a proper name, but if you have been here for a while read on, I might just have the solution for you
3
The Link Up Experts
These are people who cannot resist the urge to drop the link of their blog posts along with spam comments that add no value to the Conversation
Dropping links that was not asked for in comments is a poor form of marketing your content and I have a long list of Steemians who will gladly flag your comments to oblivion if you try it anywhere their post
4..
Commenting Without Reading The Post
This ranks high up In the Flag able comment charts with dropping links in post. There is a very long list of bloggers who do this everyday and it is very bad
If you see a post that you don't understand the contents, you don't need to comment, just Waka Pass @maryfavour
'Waka Pass' is a Nigerian Slang which means to Ignore and Move ahead
Trying to comment on posts that you don't understand the contents will only make you look foolish. The same thing happens when you comment on a post you did not read, you greatly increase the chances of you saying something Stupid
5..
The Parrot Squad
Even though Steemains are grouped using types of fishes ( Minnow, Dolphin, Whales). There are steemains who choose to be parrots, they spend all day repeating what everyone says, it is even more frustrating in Discord Chat
These are people who simply read your post and echo everything you said in the post without adding any valuable or useful point to it. Their comment never adds to the Conversation, it does not Ask Questions or even challenge the Idea or opinion expressed in the post
Repeating what a post said is not bad if you shed more light or expressed how a particular point made you learn something Important, below is a good example
You can repeat the blogger but make sure you make sense
How To Write Comments That Gets You Noticed
What I am about to share now is what is missing in most educational post. Most tell you what you are doing wrong but fail to show you the right way to do things, we are now going to analyze what a great comment looks like form start to finish
You will find out that you don't have to be a Blogging wizard to master the art of Commenting, you just have to be smart about it
The Opening Greeting
Another One
It has been proven that people like to hear their name being mentioned, whether it is by text or voice. Greeting simply involves acknowledging the author of the post you are about to comment on, it is basic online manners
If you are hoping to get the attention of someone,then it will be wise to observe some proper etiquette when approaching the person, just typing that person name will make you stand out to some extent
Say hello or hi to them, refer to them by their names, and if it is one of those fishes with a funny username that you find hard to pronounce talk more of spelling , copy and paste the person name, it might tiring at first but you will get used to it over time
It might slow you down for a moment but it is a time well spent and lets you start your comment on the right foot
The Heartfelt and Genuine Comment
If this is a person who you have found out to be a consistent provider of quality content that brings you value, then it is Important for you to use the opportunity to thank the person
It also makes the person see the fruit of his labour and also know that he/she is on the right path, and there are occassions when a comment brings more happiness to an author than an upvote
Tell them how much you enjoyed the post, this will make their day especially Minnow still struggling with low payouts, it will give them a reason to keep coming back to create more posts because they know that people will appreciate their work even if it does not trend. In my opinion this is the only thing that makes people keep going back to Facebook even though they earn nothing there, Facebook Likes and Comments gives them happiness and a sense of connection to people, we need to replicate that on Steemit
There are different ways to do this, you can focus on the post, the author or a combination of the two, don't list out the life history of the person or you might come across as a Stalker, don't also shower the person with excess praise you will come across as insincere, it is adviceable to focus more of your praise on the post rather than the author. A simple word of thanks or two to the author will do
The Extra Value
Now this is what differentiates between a good and Great Comment, creating added value, this can be as easy as adding a personal experince or a different perspective
This comment by @luzcypher on my post last week is a perfect example
it can even been done with a well thought out question that creates a discussion section right there in the comment section
Posting a comment that adds no value is simply wasting your time and the time of anybody that reads the comment. Time is money, you have to make it count
But what does it really mean to add Value to a post with a comment?
It simply means saying or doing something that makes you come across to the author as a Valuable person. You have to be EUII (sounds like a remark of disgust, but totally awesome).
It means you have to be Entertaining, Useful, Insightful and Intersting to the Steemian you are trying to woo. This presents you as a person worth knowing and helps you develop a personal relationship with the person
But how can I come across as an EUII person?, You might ask, lets review ways that works everytime
+ Share Your Personal Insights
The best way to do this is to share a story that illustrates the message that the author was trying to pass across. When you do this, it makes it easier for the blogger to reach out and connect more with you, you are no longer @punkman43 who is just passing through
Everyone has a story to tell, whether it is a personal experience or something that happened to you, but the more personal your story the more unique and memorable it will be
+ Ask Useful/Thoughtful Questions
This is another way to show that you really read the post and know what it says, asking questions shows meditation
Asking thoughtful questions also helps build interaction and fuels a positive flow of discussion that will bring value to anyone that comes across the post
Some Authors may write shorter posts for brevity sake ( this is my longest post ever), but asking them to shed more light on things that are not fully clear to you is not bad or rude </h6?
+ Contribute Positively to the Post
Writing a comment that adds more valuable content to the post gets you the attention you need
So if you read a Post titled: Five Affordable Ways To Attend Steem Fest. And you know a Sixth way (teleportation probably) then share it with everyone in the comment section, it will make both the Author and the readers happy and you will probably make friends with a Rich Steemian Scientist who owns a teleportation machine Start-up
I have seen situations where the Author Edited the post to reflect the extra point added by a commenter, this serves as major approval of your input
Great and positive comments have a domino effect as they fuel more positive comments. Review the number of comments in the posts below below and note the difference between @ned SMT announcement post and @surpassinggoogle Untalented post
And
Even though the SMT was a great announcement for Steemains that even made the price of Steem spike to $1:60, it still got lesser comments than the Untalented post and this was because Majority of the comments on @ned's post were negative and were mostly comments that were prophesying the end of Steemit
I am not saying that the comments were wrong, they were necessary so as to make STEEM INC know the opinions of people, I am just using this to illustrate that Negative comments does not encourage interaction, people will be scared to comment for fear of victimization
So drop comments that uplifts the post and the author whenever possible, Bloggers are Human beings with feelings and they will appreciate your input
+ The Goodbye Promise
This is what most people rarely do. This simply means making a promise to the author of the post, and no matter what make sure that you fulfill it
It can be as easy as resteeming the post or sharing it on Social media platforms like twitter or Facebook, also make sure you tag the person so that he or she will know that you fulfilled your promise
You may be wondering by now whether all this things I listed above can actually help you, you may be thinking whether putting in so much work in a comment is worth it
The truth is that it is not everyone that will appreciate your comments but it is better to make 10 thoughtful comments daily then 1000 generic and watered down comments. Here on Steemit, comments are counted as posts and rewarded duly, it is left to you to make each one matter
So ask yourself, how many posts will I make today and how many of them will matter?
There are a lot of benefits that comes with great commenting, it will make Influential bloggers notice and follow you both on Steemit and other social media platforms
It will help you gain authority in your niche and develop a positive platform
The road to proper commenting is a hard one, you will not get results overnight, but it is a path that will bring you the best returns over time, it will get you noticed in this Steemit sea of sameness
My Experiment
I recently started adding pictures to my comments to see how much attention it can attract, I got pretty good replies for this comment i made below, and if you look below I also added my personalised #blockchain-blogger tag,that will show all my recent post if clicked, I am the only one using it for now but I have a feeling that will change soon
So my advice to you is to create a personalized tag for your awesome content, then go out an write equally awesome comments that will attract people to your blog, it does not matter if you are a food blogger or a Blog about Golf. If you are provide value people will notice you
SO do you have any memorable story that this post reminds you off, or is there any effective point that you will like to share with us, make a splash in the comment below, I will like to hear from you, your opinions matter to me
Thanks For Reading

Hello, @ogochukwu.
A thoroughly thought out and well written post. –This one. I finally was able to help a friend register on steemit just some days ago. He proceeded to make posts in a hurry without heeding all the advise I gave him on growing his network by interacting and commenting on posts that interest him... Well, I guess a few failed trials sure would convince him. I used to neglect the power of commenting and interacting with others. And it made the whole experience so difficult and frustrating. But when I started doing that, everything became easy and fun.
This was really insightful and timely (and long too) 😉... Great lessons for those who'd care to read. Resteemed.
Hello @pangoli
My advice to you is not to try and force anybody to follow your directive about Steemit.
They will feel you are trying to slow them down, just let them experience what Steemit is for themselves, that is when they know that they actually need to heed the advice of the people here before them.
I just hope that you friend realizes his mistake earlier.
@ogochukwu
Hi @ogochukwu
This is a million dollar advice for anyone and everyone who needs to grow on steemit especially our newbies i wish i got this when I just joined. Thanks for selling this out so cheaply I hope everyone benefits from this like i just did.
@phunke
Hello @phunke
Thanks for reading and your usual awesome comment.
As for the post, i just felt that it was an Information that was vital to everyone here on Steemit so I had to share it with the community.
@ogochukwu
Is there any special compensation that should be given to some of us that actually read this pretty long but useful post?
Or a special T-shirt with these words boldly written in front I SURVIVED READING A LONG USEFUL POST ON STEEMIT?
I just wish I knew some of the facts listed here when I signed up. But not too bad, we live and learn and right here is a useful post on how to navigate the murky waters of smart commenting on steemit.
With the power of a minnow vested in me, I give this post a 100% upvote 😁✌️💯👍
Was about saying same thing, how i wish i saw this earlier. But thank God for this we learn daily. Thanks @ogochukwu
Hello @tfame3865
There is no late time to start building your brand the right way.
The most Important thing is for you to start applying whatever you learnt.
Checked your blog and saw that you are finally finding your groove with game reviews.
Keep it up Bro.
@ogochukwu
Thanks for checking on my blog @ogochukwu, i learnt little from the mentorship class even thou i lack behind base on personal reason i couldnt avoid. I will still keep up with the class
@ogochukwu, it is a niche very few covers in Nigeria tag so I think it is good that @tfame3865 is covering that gap. Thanks for thanking me
Thought as much...😂😂
Haaa... @greenrun you must be good at comedy..😂😂
Lets begin a stand up comedy show, e go sell wella. 😂
Hello @greenrun
Thanks for blessing this post with your mighty upvote and an Equally amazing comment.
I just checked our post promotion channel on Discord this morning and found out that out post engagement have Improved. Everyone is now reading and commenting on each others post.
Thanks Dropping by. Keep Running.
@ogochukwu
I adore your spirit and work, very helpful tips, need to follow some :P
Thanks for reading my favourite Narwhal
@ogochukwu
You really gave me a good laugh especially with the first half of your article (although the topic is very serious).
I thought I know more or less all kind of fishes that swim in those Steemit waters but when you discovered to me the Piranhas I fell off laughing! 😁
But it wasn't the end as I soon discovered that we have here even the birds that are trying to swim - Parrots! 😂 (You finished me with that one.)
There is also one another kind of Steemians that I spotted. I call them Transformers. (That's not those ones that would cross your mind first, the creatures from series of American science fiction action films based on the toys created by Hasbro and Tomy.) That's the ones who joined Steemit as some John Does and after some while, they transform themselves into some famous personality or vice versa.
There are also some Sex-Transformers. Those that also joined as some black-haired John Doe and after few weeks lack of success, they become overnight some astonishing, breathtaking sexy blonds.
However, I would really love this post to be seen from, as many as possible, new members or even some older ones, with a wish and hope they would learn something from it and stop doing those stupid and to most true Steemians irritating mistakes that many of them do, not being aware they are harming themselves significantly more than doing any good, as such actions and behaviour are counterproductive, and instead of bringing them closer they are, in fact, taking them away (very fast) from their main goal.
To help you spread the word and those useful tips, I'm going to Resteem this post.
There is only one thing I wouldn't agree with you 100%. It's about mentions - tagging people with their username. Not all members are thrilled with or even less affectionate about it. And I think they have the right or even a good reason not to be.
Therefore, my standing regarding this matter is 50:50 - pros vs cons. Meaning, we need to develop that special sense to recognize when, why and for whom such tagging would be appropriate or not.
Hello @ana-maria
You got me there also, it looks like I have not been paying close attention to what has been happening in Steemit.
Never knew about the Transformers or the sexual ones.
Anyways thanks for bringing it to my attention I will be more vigilant now.
As regards to mentions i believe that some people may not like it, so it is left to you to use it with discretion.
Thanks for reading and also dropping an awesome comment.
@ogochukwu
Here is the comment I left to one of those last ones that I came across. 😉😊
But I think he/she stopped posting soon after.
Lolz. Did he/she not think that his/her followers will notice the transformation.
@ogochukwu
Well, I don't know what he/she was thinking if he/she was thinking at all. As well, thinking requires the possession of a certain organ, at least to some extent developed. There is also that greedy gene that can easily mash-up even the very well developed thinking organ. In other words, with so many options available, it's very hard to guess what really happened there. 😉😊
I just see tagging in comments as unnecessary attention grabbing. It didn't add anything to the value of the comment. If you get mention notifications then you just get more. Just my opinion
Hi!
Greetings can be as simple as just saying hello, without mentioning any user and still work positively as the author of this post stated. But when it comes to avoiding mention-spamming in comments under someone posts, I think mostly the long-time Steemians with high reps and much SteemPower don't appreciate it. I think that's because they are confronted so many times with people trying to grab their attention that it becomes annoying.
The more minnow-type Steemians would probably have a preference for their username typed and mentioned in comments.
One of the keys to effective communication, is to make sure you understand who you are talking to and maybe adjust your message to be helpful, valuable and contributing without being annoying at the same.
I would tell you a story, but this comment is already way too long :)
There's no fixed rules, but I would advise people to try to not be annoying. If you waste the time of a whale or other experienced user you may just get muted (or worse).
Huuf.. it is quite annoying, to leave comment take a long time and I must click post button several times to post my comment. I hope steemit.inc solve this problem.
Hello Hanto, thanks for reading all the same, I know your comment was awesome
Hi @ogochukwu... Thanks for this, I've learnt something new today, I guess we are not only here to earn but to learn also... I don't usually start my comment with a greeting like you said and I don't tag the author of the post too😥😥😥😥... Kudos😀😀😀😀😀
Hello @onyechi
You are very correct. Steemit is even more of a Learning Platform than an earning Platform.
I knew Nothing about Cryptocurrencies before joining Steemit.
Steemit gave me the opportunity to learn about cryptocurrencies while earning one.
@ogochukwu
Hi @ogochukwu, I really liked how you described it as a Learning Platform. I am optimistic that Steemit might be part of the 'education' system for the future, where people can share, connect and learn in ways that can help us move away from the current education systems that dictates our future career paths by tests scores. True learning is about self-discovery and understanding of the world around us, to help us realize our true potentials.
Great post and looking forward to engaging better with people here with some of your advice :)
Hello @plushzilla
At the risk of sounding like a Parrot, I totally agree with you about the fact that Steemit is a Learning Platform.
The amount of educational content published on this platform daily is Mind blowing.
All what some people see are the rewards foe posting and voting.
Thanks for dropping a very great comment.
@ogochukwu
Thanks @ogochukwu for the kind comment. I learnt most of it from reading your post and I hope it is improving the quality of my comments so all credit to you :)
@ogochukwu,
The blockchain-blogger, himself. I have learnt a thing or two about commenting from this post.
Hello @yaanivapeji
I am just glad that you are finally having a grasp of what this platform is.
Though we have different views sometimes I still know that you are a person of excellence.
@ogochukwu
Yah we disagree to agree. See You later.
Hi @ogochukwu... Thanks for this, I've learnt something new today, I guess we are not only here to earn but to learn also... I don't usually start my comment with a greeting like you said and I don't tag the author of the post too😥😥😥😥... Kudos😀😀😀😀😀
Well said @ogochukwu. I will want to buttress on the reading before making comments part: I'm very irritated when someone comes to my post and talk 'left' when i'm talking 'right'. Last week, I made a post about how the human minds can be virtual reality for introverts and God knows who came out of the blues and started talking another thing I can't remember.
Also I would suggest that steemians pick articles that they are interested in to make comments and not just make comment because the article was posted by a whale. Thank you.
Always use markdown to align comments that seemed out of strangely not aligned :)
The Sea Dragon Himself 🙂
Thanks for reading @jemimah.
There is nothing more annoying than spam comments on a post.
People don't know that they just have to read and comment on only what they understand.
@ogochukwu
Hello @ogochukwu the points you stated are arguably 90% mistakes new comers make. Most times you see a comment which says nice post, please upvote me and they dump their links. As a blogger i knew this was wrong and i always reply by telling them to watch learn and work hard. What more can i say you took every mistakes and revealed it. I hope they have read and learnt.
Thank you, and im resteeming
Hello @josediccus
Thanks for reading. Most newcomers don't really know what blogging is all about, they just signed up for Steemit because of the rewards.
It is left for the people who have knowledge to pass it on and not just complain about it.
I have been on Steemit for Nine Months and I have not flagged anyone.
@ogochukwu

This should be pinned to front page for newbies to learn how it works here. I hate spam and spam-like comments on my blog. It is just juvenile to do that. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for reading @bitfairy.
As for pinning the post, I just hope @timcliff see it, he will get it pinned for all to see. LOL
@ogochukwu
He may just do that.

Hello @ogochukwu, this a well composed post and I will personally say that I learnt alot from it.
To start with the blank profile used by some steemians, I will say I am guilty of that but I had been asking other steemians on how to go about it but you need to see the way some will answer even some will not ... I would be happy if anyone who reads this post can help shed more light to how to upload an image to the profile pic and the cover pic too.
That aside, moving to the aspect of post related comments, I was guilty of this, just as you said, I went through @papa-pepper tutorial and he stressed how commenting help to be notice on the steemit planet but he never dig deep as you just did, in actual sense, I found out how to use post related comments myself but I am happy this will help newbies if and only everyone of us resteems this and use it as a reference to them.
I observed, participating in some contest also brings newbies to be noticed. I do not really take part but I am using this medium to ask if it is a greay thing to do and how do we get to know if there are any contests going?
I am really glad you shared this awesome information with us all...
@bekky
Hello @bekky
Contest are good as they give exposure to a certain extent,but the fact is that,everyone sees it as a way to draw attention or make money.
The true way to build long lasting friendship and relationship is through post engagement, it brings people a great level of happiness when they know someone appreciates and values their work.
The biggest cause of writers block on Steemit is not that people don't know what to write, it is a perceived view of a lack of an Audience for what they actually love to talk about.
We dealt on Content creation last night in the Bluewaves Mentorship Academy, and when I starting teaching them how and the Importance of creating content around their passions and their careers, they expressed the fact that no one will appreciate what they do.
You see someone who is a doctor like @nairadaddy blogging about something else entirely. There is something that comes after creating content and that is context. Context simply means Interaction. You cannot build a long lasting Interaction around a topic you know nothing about.
That is why you see noobs posting cryptocurrency content and when someone asks them a question in the comment section they are unable to reply it.
I am very glad that @tfame3865 started blogging more about games as that is something that he is very familiar with.
I hope I have answered your question.
@ogochukwu
I am going to send a message on Discord on how to set up your profile picture.
As for contests, you can always view ongoing contest on Steemit using the #contest tag.
Hello, @ogochukwu, you answered my questions.
Thanks for that class, it was awesome and I already made up my mind on creating my own niche

@bekky
Lolx. All comments are now carrying the tag...hello @ogochukwu...
Anyway, all your points are very much valid. Just like in normal daily interactions, if you see someone and insult the person, I don't think he/she will be willing to warmup to you again. But if you treat someone nicely, the person will be compelled by the law of nature to treat you nicely too.
The poster metioned something about 51/49 rule. Give 51% and receive 49%. You may be surprised how the 49% will covered everything you have been dreaming of.
NEW TERM ALERT: EUII
@nairadaddy bot oya cram it sharpaly.
Thanks for sharing man.
Remain Awesome!
And you did same also...😂
lolx...it was inevitable...
Hello @nairadaddy
I never knew you had a bot LOL :)
Thanks for your kind words and I am glad that you were able to take some thing out from the post.
I have a feeling we will not rest In Discord because you wll want to EUII us everyday.
Thanks Bro.
@ogochukwu
Lolx. I have always been EUIIing without knowing it...now I know. Won't stop.
Hello @ogochukwu
I feel so blessed knowing you as a newbie...
Have learnt so much from you, from the mentorship class and now here...
This is like a semester note fused into a single post...
I need to sit down and dilute every piece of this, like a Nigerian eating chicken
Thanks for sharing bro.
Hello @yanga
I also feel blessed for meeting you as you are a Man of great talent.
I advice you to bookmark this post as you will find it useful down the line.

@ogochukwu this is my first time to read long post like this. Why did I read this till finish? It make no sense to start reading and stop in the middle. The worst and dangerous thing is to stand at the middle of road.
This your submission are things happening on Steemit even there are he-goat that follow follow just to upvote cos of curation not minding what the content of that post carry....it's many Steemit needs to understand that is not about follow follow but to get the info that will help you succeed that's the most paramount thing. Some will COMMENT nice post, wow awesome post which show that they never read one thing there. @bluewave is really showing right path to follow and I'm sure many great blogger will come out from the community.
Well done buddy.

Hello @samest
I am sure that you will also do some great community building with your Engineering skills.
Thanks for having an understanding of what this post is all about.It is not all about follow for follow, it is about giving and receiving value.

Thanks for reading @olusolaemmanuel
I just have to,if i have to move up to the peak in life. I have to learn from those who have gone far before me,only on that note i also can rise to stardom
Hello @ogochukwu,
Wow, I feel like this is my opportunity to make the most profound comment ever. No pressure. :-)
This post is a fantastic overview of what to avoid and what do do when writing comments on posts. I think everyone on Facebook and Twitter should read this too. If every social-media platform rewarded thoughtful and kind comments, the internet would be a much better place over all.
I have to admit, there have been times when I have commented before carefully reading the post (or watching a video) and the results are sometimes embarrassing. I don't comment for rewards, but it does feel good to see comments upvoted as a way of communicating gratitude.
Thank you for posting this, I hope many people heed your excellent advice. @ironshield
Hello @ironshield
Thanks for reading and your kind words.
And thank you for giving my post one of your best comments do far.
The principles listed on this post is universal and can be applied by anyone that is creating content in any other social media platform. Be it Medium, Facebook or Instagram.
The principles here are all rooted in Appreciation and that is what everyone desires.
@ogochukwu
Hey Boss
Now i know you're the real @ogochukwu living in enugu :)
This post covered everything about commenting that i don't think there's anything i could add anymore.
What baffles me is how you took something that looks like a sub topic like this one and expanded it so wide that it could be turn into an ecourse and sold online.
You're really the easy definition of "quality" bro and you can only but advance forward as this platform continue to grow.
Thanks for taking time to share this helping tutorial
Resteeming
Hello @bania
Thanks for taking out time from your busy schedule to read this.
My Interactions with you on Discord have opened my eyes to a lot of things, I no know that there is a difference between sight and Vision.
Thanks and remain Awesome.
@ogochukwu
Hi @ogochukwu,
While it may true, having regard to the reference you made about @ned and @surpassinggoogle that people commented less in the formers post due to the negativity in the air and to avoid giving themselves a bad impression, this may not be the only reason if deep thought is devoted to the issue.
Some people on Steemit vote for potential rewards. Albeit they make reasonable contributions in their comments but they're all human beings and they love to be rewarded.
This is why even if my invite worths so little, I make sure to vote on all comments on my posts. It's a gesture of gratitude that I picked from @surpassinggoogle.
I believe at this point You can guess why the interaction level his post were that high.
Apart from this I liked your theory of hailing people by their names. This is something I also learned from the book How To win friends and influence people. The best sound to people ID their names.
That is why I try hard as possible time address people no matter how difficult their names look or sound. Its their names and they value it the same
In all, you've done justice to the issue and I benefitted a whole lot from the post. Thanks
@buterdaniel
Hello @buterdaniel
Yes that is very true, people like their names no matter how ugly it may look or sound.
And yes, positive comments fuels interaction, it is a basic online principle.
Thanks for reading.
@ogochukwu
I feel as if starting this comment with a greeting will come out as a cliche. So... I'll just talk. (it may sound a bit robotic, lol)
Comments are nice little "notice me" post-its.
It all depends on you to utilise them well.
I do not comment on content that I don't understand or like, cos even if I tried, it'll probably sound half assed.
One must not always agree on an author's views either, but your reasons should be coherent. Sometimes being a yesman doesn't pay. 😃
Your post gives a concise and clear way to interact on steemit through comments.
You've done well.
Insert picture of your choice here😃
Kudos@ogochukwu.
Quick question: Are those names you used real? @punkman and @Theblahblahblah
No Be You Again 😃
That is very true, commenting just for the sake of it makes your comment look stupid.
As for whether @punkman43 and @the9ssi5n are real usernames, you just have to find that out for yourself ;)
@ogochukwu
Nicely written sir
Although i dont read long posts cause i end up getting confused and commenting rubbish but as i saw..
Had to finish it and it was indeed superb and also got confused(lols), i would save this on the mail draft for later.
Well done once more @ogochukwu
And the comments here looks like they all prepared for you..😂😂
Hello @camzy
Thats true, they really peppered me with my advice, I am happy for that too.
You can always bookmark the post, I myself will be going back to it from time to time to review it.
Thanks and remain awesome.
@ogochukwu
I feel that if I start this comment with a salutation, it may seem like a cliche. So I'll just... talk I guess (it might seem a bit robotic, lol).
Comments are little "notice me" post-its that draw attention to one's blog. And it all depends on you to use it well.
I agree with @maryfavour, once you don't like or understand a post and you have no meaningful comment, Biko, just jump and pass. It's not by force, there is no knife at your throat to comment so don't half-ass it.
You can disagree with an author, but please be intelligent about it.
You've done well @ogochukwu
kudos
Quick question: are those names real? @punkman and @Theblahblahblah.
Wow @ogochukwu. This is "COMMENTING 101"
Quite an incisive look into the art of commenting and interacting on steemit posts.
Thanks alot for sharing this great post. I couldn't fight the urge of resteeming this, so i did....lolz.
Great job @ogochukwu.
Hello @rickie
Thanks for resteeming the post it meant a lot to me. And you are right this is commenting 101.

@ogochukwu
@ogochukwu No wonder this post took you time, while compiling this post yesterday in my office you look through the windows i wanted to ask you whether you get inspiration by looking out side through the windows. lol this post is very informative though i have applied 90% of it before now i see what you do and i leverage from it just like i told you yesterday you are my mentor. always @theheralds
Hello @theheralds
Thanks so Much for your Constant support, it means a lot to me.
And yes this post really drained me. Normally a post will take just around two hours to write, this one took almost Six hours, I am just happy for the end result and the fact that it was useful to people.
@ogochukwu
Hello @ogochukwu. To be honest, this is one of the best blog post I have read on steemit even as a newbie and I must say it was so helpful and onpoint, although lengthy but it was worth the read. Good job bro, Good job.
Hello @thelovejunkie
Thanks for having the endurance to finish it. This is my longest post ever and I am glad that I wrote it because it brought value to everyone.
@ogochukwu
@ogochukwu thank you so much for writing this post. As a new steemian this is something I wish I had read a few weeks ago. But I'm bookmarking this so I can re-read it every so often. This should be required reading for all new steemians!
Hello @kslo
I am very glad right now that you found the post very informative.
I will also advice you to share it with your friends. This is a very vital post that need to be read by many.
@ogochukwu
Agreed, I resteemed it thanks again for a great post that I'm sure I'll be reading it over and over!
Thanks for the resteem Bro
I think writing great and thoughtful comments is one of the most under-rated things on Steemit which importance many new users fail to use. Not that only someone can upvote your comment and help you earn more, but also it gets you noticed.
Noticed by others users, maybe some of them influental, or not. It really does not matter. Great commeting opens up the opportunity to meet some amazing people and create friendships. Because guys everybody wants to follow a guy who leaves great comments. Because guess what? It is not a rocket science. Everybody wants GREAT COMMENTS on their posts. So next time you are wondering why your posts are not getting much attention you should look into improving your commenting on others peoples posts. It is extremely important for success on Steemit.
The more you give, the more you will get in return.
Amazing post brother. I am sure many who take the time to read will benefit greatly from it. I hope many new users will take the time to read it because it is extremely important for their success on Steemit.
Have an amazing day brother. :)
Hello @awakentolife
Thanks for reading, it is obvious from your comments that you read the post and took it to heart.
What people fail to realise is that the more you give, the more you recieve, everyone wants 100% of the value and that is not possible.
There has to be a balance of giving and recieving.
@ogochukwu
#blockchain-blogger
Hello @ogochukwu!!! (I'm here and I'm following one of the steps... which is greeting... ^^ hihi..)
That was quite a long read, but it was worth the time...
I love commenting on posts which I find really interesting. Sometimes, it might be short, but sometimes it can also be pretty lengthy... hahaha xD And if the author of the post I commented on replied and interacted with me, it makes me really happy.
I love receiving comments on my post, too... (especially comments that are related to what I've posted). I even upvote comments which I find really interesting... (my vote doesn't cost much though.. hihixD) I've also met people here on Steemit who never fail to send me a comment especially on certain fields... Like Steemians who became my friend because of a common interest. (I also do the same thing on their post... not in every post, but post that are worth to be commented on)
I almost missed this post of yours, so I'm really thankful that you told me about it. <3
Ohhh~ I became a bit chatty on this one... hahaha... A long post deserves a long comment!! hihihi :D
Thanks for all the wonderful and useful tips! Upped and Resteemed! ^^
Hello @tegoshei

I'm learning Japanese, and yeah.. I'm willing to teach you what I've learned.. hihi
See you!
Beautifully written @ogochukwu, and it even feels like life hack to get the desired attention. But on the flip side, i feel this just resonates the need to be tactically mechanical about relationships, what has happened to the sweet spontaneity that brings out the real creativity. i will like your opinion on this.
Hello @lemmybe
The purpose of commenting is to build lasting relationships, it is not something that will done sparingly.
That is why you should comment only on post of people you understand their work, this goes beyond upvotes, there aer other reasons for building relationships.
I think i will make a post about that soon.
@ogochukwu
Exactly my sentiment...
Yes, you really should @ogochukwu.
This wonderful post has received a bellyrub 0.95 % upvote from @bellyrub thanks to this cool cat: @overkillcoin. My pops @zeartul is one of your top steemit witness, if you like my bellyrubs please go vote for him, if you love what he is doing vote for this comment as well.
Hi @ogochukwu -
Finally, a post that explains more about the dynamics of commenting. Like you said above, real interaction takes some effort but that is the only interaction that will ever bear fruit in the future.
Thanks for posting this. I bet many folks are going to appreciate it!
Hello @jonknight
Thanks for reading and your kind words.
@ogochukwu
This post must have taken ages to perfect, @ogochukwu. Amazing work, full of enlightenment and pro-tips about ... well, you know. Brilliant work as well. Whither thou goest, there goeth my nation, nwanne! 🙌👊
Hello @edumurphy
It took almost six hours and I am amazed by the outcome and the number of replies it got. It confirms the fact that this is a rampant problem that needs a solution.
@ogochukwu
You can just be funny, works for me. 😎
Lolz that is enough for me
reaffirming and inspiring, irl
Thank you
@ogochukwu the authenticity that you're encouraging and that I see other users encouraging is part of what makes the Steemit community more enjoyable. Periscope tends to be authentic too. BuskerApp was too.
Hello @steemseph
That is very true, Interaction is the hall mark of true community.
@ogochukwu
Hi @ogochukwu , i must admit that is a brilliant post you got here, most especially to newbies like myself, this post is quite thoughtful
We learn everyday and i think i just learnt something new today
Best regardd
Thanks for reading @morganokeoma
I am glad that you found the post resourceful. You can always bookmark it and come back to it later.
@ogochukwu
Nwanne, this is beautiful. Its educative and informative, learnt a lot from it
Thanks for reading @adore-eu
Hello @ogochukwu!! Thank you for the article! Commenting the right way is something I may need to work on. Maybe I have it backwards...I always thought tagging the author in my comment would be annoying, especially if the person was really popular and busy. Instead I have tried to connect with people by sharing a link with my comment. For instance the link to my story if they have a similar one, a few times I linked my post of advice for newbies in someone's introduce yourself post. The comments aren't cookie cutter, and I truly want to reach people. When I was new I would've appreciated advice when I first started out instead of having to figure it all out on my own. My latest post could help someone struggling with self worth...Once I held a contest and not many people were biting so I shared it on @papa-pepper's selfie challenge along with my entry for the day (and I did ask him first). Anyway, you get the point... I think there's a difference between truly wanting to reach people with your posts because you care and want to build relationships and just spamming and spreading your most recent post around wherever you go. What do you think?
Hello @snowpea
Tagging is not wrong in my opinion if it used within the persons post. And when it comes to sharing links in the comments section there are exceptions.
There are times it can be done at the request of the Author of the post or you can link someone who asked for that information in the comment section. And like this post there are some posts that I try to get across to people because I know that it will be valuable to them, but I always ask their permission first.
@ogochukwu
I suppose maybe that's something I need to scale back on a bit. Thanks for the advice! :)
I tend to spend four hours minimum on steemit daily. Over half the time is reading and commenting on other's posts. I like to interact and carry on conversations and I do try to leave open-ended questions or replies.
Hello @goldendawne
That in my opinion is the best way to build your brand, you might not see the results quickly but it will manifest overtime.
@ogochukwu
Fantastic post! I need to get back on my commenting game! Thank you @ogochukwu! #theunmentionables
Thanks for reading @bitdollar
Seriously speaking, I would have love to start the post with a greeting from the expo, u just gave above, but It will look kinda weird. I will start doing it frOm my next comment.
But first, I wanna appreciate u, for this wonderful piece of information u just shared to us. At first, I ignored it bcos it was a very long post but when I started reading people's comments.. I was so glad it didn't pass me by.. I really learnt a lot and will put it into practice.
Secondly, besides discord dont u have a whatsapp group that people can learn bcos d m.b discord alone use to consume, is enough to pay a baby school fees.
Before, I sign out, Abeg na who be that person wey write "work work, work, work!!! For ur pics? The person na relative to Rhianna?? 😂😁😂
Hello @sbamsoneu
I am glad that you actually read the post, you would have missed a huge lesson otherwise.
As for the discord group is necessary because we cannot fit the number of people we have in a Whatsapp group. But you can still hit me up on discord so that I can add you to a Whatsapp group I run.
As for the work work work fellow, that is a long story.
@ogochukwu
Fantastic post @ogochukwu! At the risk of sounding like everyone else, very well done! This is fantastic advice for new Steemians trying to build a following. Engagement with other people is my favorite part of the platform, and the cookie-cutter copy and paste replies that people leave definitely detract from a good post.
The one that I have noticed that I dislike seeing the most is when I see someone drop a comment on a post, cut and paste style "Great post", and then they Upvote their own comment a dollar or whatever, not Upvote the post, and the post value is less than the crappy comment. I have nothing against people Upvoting their own comments, but at least Upvote the post, too! Is there anything we can do about that, aside from using flags? I know a lot of new steemians are probably afraid to flag for fear of being flagged back by the more powerful account. Do we just have to ignore the poor behavior of these other accounts, or are there services for this kind of thing?
Kinda off the topic of your post, but kinda not. I know your post is about leaving Greater than Good comments, but it got me wondering what can we do about some of the "bad for the environment" type of behavior like the self vote comments and "follow for follow" beggers? Some of the stuff I overlook if they at least support the post with an Upvote and/or Resteem, but the bot comments and the people who never Upvote or Follow back? Are there any services or anything for that?
Hello @gogogadgetupvote
The only solution to spam comments for now is flagging. And for those who do what you stated above, I believe that antone who is that greedy does not really know what Steemit is all about.
Steemit is decentralized so there is no form of policing for how people use their upvotes. But I believe such person will not last here due to the fact that he/she will not fit into any community.
@ogochukwu
Greedy is definitely a good way to describe those people. Thanks for replying to my comment so fast, @ogochukwu! Do you mind if I mention this post and link it in my next post for new Steemians?
Yes you can, I want the post to get to as many people as possible @gogogadgetupvote
Interesting article with a lot of great thoughts. I haven't tried including pics in my comments, but I'll try it sometime. ;) I think worthwhile comments are the only way to go. If someone comments with, "I upvoted, vote for me please." It really doesn't make me want to click on their link. I want to comment and talk to the people who leave me good comments related to what I posted about. If it's just bland blah, I don't want to respond. Thanks for the post.
Hello @ogochukwu.
This is the Longest and best post I have ever read on Steemit. I don't put myself to read long post but this was worth it. Thank you for sharing this information, I have learnt I did applied '@ogochukwu'. I usually don't mention people's names on comment and I didnt know this was not cool 😎. I wish I have been following you I should be better blog by now. I look forward to more of your posts. Thank you .
