Running Out Of Gas... Daily 100+ Rep Fitness Challenge + Exercise Tip (Day 135)

in #fitnesschallenge7 years ago (edited)

SOS...

I've tried to be optimistic, positive, and giving every moment for 135 straight days, but I'm about all out of gas and ideas on how to crack the mystery of getting proper rewards for these posts from the general Steemit community.

You've all be immensely helpful and supportive, so it's not a factor of that. In fact, our loyal crew is the only reason I keep trying. Everyone is encouraging, and I've appreciated every comment, upvote and resteem. I've also been thrilled to see people find a purpose to exercise again and take care of their bodies. I've seen many people flourish from motivation they've gotten here and don't want to let anyone down.

I'm thrilled that many of many of you are getting proper recognition and growing generous followers from your workout posts, because it's been earned with hard work, quality, and consistency. For those that are waiting to achieve blogging success, don't let me discourage you whatsoever.

The reality is that 135 straight days of crunching numbers and posting, along with ~16,000 reps (many forced in the middle of the night to keep my promise), is a lot of trying... without much interest/respect from the larger whole outside our circle. I just can't understand why my posts get nowhere on the rewards front, or even remotely close. Being stuck under $1-$1.25 unless I upvote myself is frustrating.

I had to vent. I know everyone is doing everything they can. Thanks for listening.

I'm still not over my illness and have to go to bed early for my baseball games tomorrow, so I'll put this placeholder up for now so everyone can enter their new reps.

Here's the last post where we destroyed our previous record high in daily reps.

This is a good thing for Steemit, but with more than enough followers (and tons of resteems), most people simply seem to be disinterested, not care, or not want to help. It's tough.

The Challenge:

At least 100 honest reps of your choice of exercise. No excuses. No bullsh*t. Just actions, positivity, results and progress. Only post AFTER your reps are done. Always support each other. Full guidelines and conditions below.

Daily exercise idea (not a requirement) - Shoulder Raise Combo

Bonus Tip - PLEASE never do this:

Daily Update:

  • 17 Steemians contributed 7,507 daily reps.

Overall Summary:

  • 449,750 overall by 49 Steemians from 13 countries in 134 workout days.
  • Thanks to everyone for each vote, mention, and resteem.

Reps Line.png

Challenge Overview:

  • You choose what types of exercise reps to do.
  • 30 minutes of fitness walking, running, spinning, biking, cross-country skiing, etc., can count as 100 reps if you need to rest or can't use weights.
  • I'll award 1 SBD for every 10,000 rep milestone. (25 SBD paid out)
  • I run the numbers daily which is sometimes harder than my reps.

Conditions:

  • Weights not required.
  • Do real reps, use good form, aiming for 100+.
  • Start your reply with "Challenge Completed".
  • Reply with a list of the exercises and reps you did.
  • Cumulative tallies are appreciated as a separate line.
  • Only submit reps you've done, not ones you're planning to do.
  • Use the tag "fitnesschallenge" on associated posts.
  • Upvoting or resteeming is appreciated to reach more.
  • Try to upvote as many contributors as possible to motive each other.

Advice:

  • Stretch before and after.
  • Breathe properly on each rep.
  • Quality over quantity.
  • Eat a healthy snack after/stay hydrated.
  • Start with exercises you enjoy to build up for harder ones.
  • Take before pictures to appreciate results over time.
  • Feel good about your accomplishments.

From @musclegirlfusion:

"Since I started posting in this challenge, you've given me a reason to blog on steemit. No matter how discouraged I get when it seems like no one is reading what I write, I know I can write it and post it here and it adds to the challenge. So thank you for giving me the motivation I need to stick with blogging!!"

From @bitfiend:

"After starting 6 days ago I already feel stronger. This is definitely the most consistent exercise I've done in an extremely long time but I am happy to be taking part! While I walk around mostly in pain, I know it's all for a good cause! My health! I am feeling better and I'd say my sickness is mostly gone now. I think that if I had not been exercising, I may have been sick for a bit longer. Persistence pays off!"

From @mightpossibly:

"I find it deeply satisfying to do these reps, which is a big deal. I've always hated the gym and prefer to exercise at home. But I've lacked the discipline to do it. It sort of feels like I have gym buddies now, without the hassle of going to the gym."

From @notorious562:

"I seriously cannot explain how much this group pushes and motivate me to keep working harder. I love this fitness community and the support and encouragement will help us achieve our goals."

From @khufu:

"Your challenge has helped immensely to keep me motivated lately. I've had a lot of... problems going on so your challenge has been a quantum of sanity in an insane world for me."

Please support our hard work and dedication and ask any questions in the comments below.

Sort:

Did some work while kids were at Park.
20 curls of one child 30lb
20 curls of one child 50lb
Did them sitting on end of slide
20 dips on stairs of play area
40 pushups

Now that's good multitasking again.

Resourceful as always. How do your kids feel about being used as human weights? haha.

They started it hah.

Lol thats awesome. My dad used to put us on his shoulders and squat us lol!! We called them kiddie squats haha

One thing we can do to help Matt would be to nominate him for a share in @steembasicincome and he'll get an auto upvote on each post.

It costs 1SBD and both parties(the nominee and the nominator) get a share for that SBD and both will get auto upvotes. I'll nominate him for a few shares now, if everyone else does it might help to make the time and effort he puts into this worthwhile. If you are feeling generous you can purchase more shares for 1SBD each.

@ there's nothing stopping anyone from using things like minnowbooster or other bots to upvote Matt's posts either. C'mon guys lets get this on the trending page.

I will look into this as soon as possible! Great tip.

I am already in the steembasicincome.sbi2- CTRL+F(to search)

Thanks a lot, Sir. I appreciate the thought and just saw so much generosity in your wallet activity on my behalf. I know you and others here are all in on your support, and have proven it over and over again, but I never intended to motivate anyone to spend money out of their own pocket for my venting. Not to take away from anything you did at all, because it's amazing... I'll return the gesture with bigger upvotes over time.

No need to give anything back Matt.

I intended to give SBD away for a competition I had running but there were no takers. I thought of you doing all this work each day (which I have since I first saw your posts) and thought if anyone here deserves something it's you.

Compared to most of the other stuff under the fitness tag, I see your work as much more valuable.

Daily Challenge Completed - 320 reps

(All reps from yesterday and night)

Don't give up! You have a following. I've read and researched about all sorts of ways to make a blog people will like and want to read and the best thing I took away from it was to keep posting even if you know only one person is reading. You may be helping that one person immensely. It's not easy but look at all the people who do follow. This is fun.

I have completed the challenge with 281 (347 including the 20 min on the stairs).

Don't give up!

Thank you very much. I'll try my best. No drama, but I'm pretty close unless things turn around soon.

You're doing a great job. I hope we can give you back some of the motivation you give us with your fitnesschallenge.

Thanks for your generous SBD contribution for the vote(s). Never intended to motivate anyone to do that. I should've put a disclaimer "Hey, @mightpossibly, you're the best upvoter we have and are NOT allowed to pay and SBD on my behalf." - you won this time... ha.

Hehe it's my pleasure. Had to figure out how those bidbots worked at some point. Actually been planning to do it for a while, but was waiting for the right post to promote.

I figured if we can get the challenge on the hot-pages (or even trending) for just one day, it could possibly get the attention it deserves. Perhaps not, but worth a try at least.

I really appreciate everything you are doing! Steemit will grow and so will this challenge! I always promote it and you in my daily reps post to encourage others to join in. Thank you so much for all you are doing for this community!!

Today's Challenge Completed: 800 reps

My notes:
Super quick workout since I was celebrating my bros b-day. I hope that someone out there is inspired and motivated with my daily post. I would love to hear people success stories so please comment them below.

Hey @steemmatt I feel like you have done such an amazing job with this challenge and wish someone would come in and blow your post up with mega bucks. I am sorry that you are not getting the recognition you deserve and I can only imagine how tiring it may be with new members and calculating numbers. I started my push up challenge because I saw how amazing of a turn out you had with this challenge. I wanted to follow in your footsteps and inspire/motivate others to focus on their health. I know it doesn't mean much but I still upvote and resteem as much as I can hoping you get the much deserved SBD for your hard work.
If you don't hear it enough thank you for everything you have done for the community and for me.

Thank you. Right now I'm being a lousy role model because I'm fading on my own damn challenge. Money is one thing, but it's the respect from the overall community outside of our niche that has me discouraged the most. I feel that we've all earned the right to have more support, not just me. Thanks also for your gift. I really appreciate the thought behind it. Next time, please reinvest that into yourself or your own challenge. All of your commentary is beyond enough support vs any $.

The way I see it is this is still a new platform and sooner than later its gonna be big and your challenge with be the one that has been established. I am sure in the near future your gonna have to hire someone to crunch the numbers because of the overwelming numbers you'll be receiving.

The gift was just a gesture to show my appreciation. Plus I am sure you'll just use that to upvote others and continuing to support other peoples fitness journeys. You have more of a pull to support other than I do.

If you haven't already heard it today, I appreciate you brother!

You really deserve a lot more! A huge thanks for you for doing this!

PS. You got some nice rewards on this post :D!

I hear you bud. I’ve been running a promotion for a while where I delegate 250SP to different people each week, all they have to do is write a post on why they are deserving. A very simple contest to help minnows and yet I still have problem getting entries, it baffles me.

I think to accomplish anything on steemit now you need to do stuff as a team or group. Individuals trying to do things alone run into a lot of problems and if they don’t have a decent amount of SP to get noticed then it often falls on deaf ears. No easy solution I’m thinking, just more teamwork perhaps. Keep fighting the good fight

I had a competition going where there was SBD on offer & I didn't get one entry, I can't even give it away.

I think you are right about the group aspect too, little fish fade into the backdrop here. I make a few pennies on each post even with teamaustralia upvotes if I don't upvote myself with bots. It's pretty pathetic really I make more from faucets.

Yup, it’s easy to fade into the abyss here for sure. I have close to 10,000SP and my posts barely get noticed. I can only imagine how bad it is for those who have 100 SP. my best advice is to comment and upvote other peoples work. That’s how I did it. I grinded for a while. Commenting on 30-50 other posts a day and not worrying about my own. Best way to do it in my opinion

I agree with you. It is difficult to start out new and have one's posts noticed. But when a comment is left, it shows up under replies and the original poster will see it.

I find commenting more interesting and it has it's own rewards - intellectually and financially.

Good point. Maybe I need to comment all over the fitness community to try to catch some more eyes. I don't have the time to hustle that hard, but it's a good grassroots approach to reconsider. Thanks for the reminder.

It is definitely frustrating to put the effort in and not see any results, that’s for sure. Just keep at it bud until you find something that works

I wish steemit had a Dm feature id ask you to message me the next time a contest is happening.

Steemit Chat is an option and Discord is another.

I've followed and will definitely enter you got my attention so for what it's worth you're doing a great job. Will follow up!

Daily Challenge Complete - 200 reps - Triceps & Biceps - Haven't even eaten lunch or dinner yet. Woke up to a busy night and golden hour photos and hunting for open fishing holes and more work calls. I hope you get more support I see you got sweet upvites but looks like you used a bidbot so I hope it gives you proper recognition! Let's keep it going I hope you feel better.
50 standing curls - left arm - 15 lbs
50 standing curls - right arm - 15 lbs
25 around in a circle forward left arm 15 lbs
25 around in a circle backward left arm 15 lbs
25 around in a circle forward right arm 15 lbs
25 around in a circle backward right arm 15 lbs

Updated - Post is up & I hope we get more support!

Some very kind and generous people used the bots. I didn't intend for anyone to take money out of their pockets.

That is awesome, in due time we'll get there!

Sadly, I'm not in shape and am nowhere near ready to get involved with this kind of stuff. But, hey - GOOD NEWS! I had been thinking about starting more of an exercise routine and getting some weights so I went out and bought two 20-lb. dumb bells. So, now I can work out. And, I've been doing some curls and shoulder exercises with them. Of course, 20 lbs. isn't much - but it's a start, right? :D

As far as SteemIt rewards goes... IDK too much, but I do know that anyone who makes much money on this platform seems to be in one of the following 3 categories:

  1. Original Gangster Steemian - bought a crap-ton of Steem when it cost $0.07 cents. They are a complete computer geek, probably get excited about writing code in Java, C++, and hang-out on Git-Hub.com as much or more than they hang-out on SteemIt. They are probably running a SteemIt node in their home office and are acting as one of the SteemIt Witnesses, or are in the running to be a Witness.

  2. Obsessive-Compulsive-Disorder-having, semi-autistic, super-energetic, extreme-narcissistic personality disordered individual who puts out post after post, upvotes themselves over 75% of the time, and spends an average of $200+ on bid-bots & promo-bots on every single one of their posts. The "hype" they seemingly generate around themselves eventually evolves into a real audience from all of the attention they are attracting to themselves. (See Jerry Banfield)

  3. They personally know somebody from category 1 or 2 who has lost interest in SteemIt and moved on to other things, leaving behind a massive delegation of Steem Power to their buddy - who then proceeds to exploit their situation by self-upvoting at somewhere right around 90% (see "haejin").

For the rest of us, at least we are getting $1.24 per post and don't have to suffer through all of the advertisments on other types of social media.

Wow - great response out of nowhere! Thanks for taking the time for this. It's right on point and very well said.

The dummbells are a start. Another easy thing to do is "air squats". They've helped me so much and can be done anytime/anywhere.

Get well soon :) Thanks to your Daily challenge I started to train again on a regular basis! I am so glad for your support and the support from the community. I hope you’ll continue. All the best (I’m on a lazy vacation this week, but will try to keep up the good work when I return home).

No gym for me last night, was buggered from riding all afternoon.

Don't give up bud, I'm sure it will pay off in the long run. I think you should consider dropping the 10,000 rep reward if your not getting much from posts. Seems like a few people are abusing it, I saw 1500 reps the other day. Now I don't like to discredit people but I have been training for about 6 years now and I know how difficult it is to pump out so many reps.
I have been doing big days but I have also missed alot of days because it really takes it out of me.

I always up vote u between 75% and 100% depending on vote power I have, it's a shame some people can't even chuck you or others in this challenge an up vote.
I will always up vote big for u so when I get more steem power down the track it will be good for u :)

I gotta fly gym time, but have been thinking about chucking your posts a minnow booster now and then. Would u care if I did that?

Thanks for all your effort m8 :)

Maybe dm some folks outside of steemit who are steemit whales or whatever and try to get them to post. Surely one of them would help. Unfortunately I can't really help with my 15 sbd starter steemit money. Maybe dm a group letter on to some whales? The only whale I know from the general internet is jerrybanfield and given his usual activities he might throw a vote if he notices..

Failing that if you have some selfish goals(not in a bad way) cross post these to Twitter or Instagram and try to pull some people over to steemit.

Thanks. I've reached out to some people for advice and feedback, got some, but apparently didn't do a good enough job of making a lasting impression. Time will tell, although 135 days of posting here is quite a bit of time already.

Jerry is a pay-for-vote-for-profit guy. He's not the right person to approach for upvotes unless he gets a monetary gain from it.

Everyone should be supportive. Because these posts are our motivation to exercise more.

Personally, everyday i am trying to exceed my last day score and become better.

For our development,

Please all Upvote @steemmatt 's posts.

Thanks for your kind words. Our team is awesome and always supportive. No qualms there. It's just with the larger community of hundreds of thousands of others who don't seem to have been exposed to, attracted to, or find this meaningful enough to support - even once.
