Food Photography: the red hot time of the year

in Foodies Bee Hive2 years ago (edited)

Hi there my Hivean friends and followers!

When I was living in the tropics, I would eat lovely fresh jalapenos and habaneros literally every day. I totally fell in love with these hot chili peppers in Mexico and I miss them so much here in Europe. This time of the year (I mean late summer / early fall), however, is when the chilies are available here too and I waste no opportunity to get them of course :)

In some of the past years, I was even lucky to try some of the really brutal chili cultivars such as the Trinidad Scorpion or the Carolina Reaper because one of my friends back in my Czech hometown grew them and sometimes, he would take a few pieces to the pub for us to have some extra fun (and burn :D) and boy, those were funny and hot nights out! :D

This year, I´m here in Prague where, apparently, none of my local friends grow their own chilies so I have to settle for what I can get in the supermarket but in fact, I was nicely surprised by the offer over there. Look what I just got there.

These beautiful red habaneros (all 4 of them) were offered at a discounted price of just 15 Czech Crowns (approximately $0.60) and they were really good. I think the price was reduced because the vast majority of the Czech people cannot handle such spicy stuff so I don´t really have much competition when shopping for these things here :D

The package said the chilies were imported from Morocco and like I already said, there were really good. Amazing citrus-like taste and very strong pungency. I´m actually writing about the peppers in the past tense already because, well, they are all gone by now :D Before eating them though, I took these pictures for this post :)

Wohooo! Thank you guys :)

I love the chili peppers they taste so good in food.

Well, some people would tell you that if you put these super hot chili peppers in your food, you cannot feel what it actually tastes like because your mouth is burned but I know what you mean :D ;)

Yeah it depends on how you like it.

I don't like eating spicy peppers.. The bell peppers are fine, especially the yellow and orange 😊

Cool, thanks for your feedback! I can imagine that there are more fans of these chilies among men than women but I know some girls who can handle a lot of spiciness too :)

Yup...Nigerians, and Indonesians, like chilies 🙈 regardless of gender 😅.

Red chilli 🌶

Red Hot Chili Peppers! :D

I love it and they can be easily seen where I stay because it is been sold by lot of people, I love the taste

Glad to hear that! Are we talking about Nigeria? Any specific popular cultivars grown there? :)

Yes Nigeria to be precise

The thought of eating peppers already hurts. I feel the heat right now just from having read your post 😭. Trinidad scorpion and Carolina reapers? Ouch! Aaaaah! Water! LOL.

This would be such a silly reaction if you ate them after cooking them in a meal, I like hot foods. Still haaaaa! Worthy though.

Do you actually eat them raw? 😮‍💨

Hehe, I din´t even realize their names are actually kind of scary :D Well, habaneros are the hottest chilies that I can eat raw (in a vegetable salad for example) but I usually use them in meals that are cooked or fried so they lose some % of their spiciness during the process ;)

Oh usually. Great! Dunno how hot habaneros are, but I'm glad you usually cook them peppers first.

I love fresh peppers in my noodles. Somehow, it gives me this colorful feeling.

Cool! What kind of peppers do you prefer? :)

Dík! :)

I just saw on the news yesterday that it is now their harvest time in my country. I like roasting them on barbecuqe after beef or chicken roasted 😋

I didn´t know that chilies are grown in Turkey as well. Do you know what cultivars? Is the Turkish cuisine spicy in general?

I think southeast of Turkiye has a specific one called İsot.

Wow I love them equally especially if I'm making my pepper soup it has some great aroma and taste 😋🤤🤤

Pepper soup? Hmm, that sounds good :) What kind of peppers do you use for this soup?

I use habanero pepper, red chilli pepper, white pepper and black pepper, those combinations has an un resistable taste and aroma.

I like the hot peppers. But I remove a bit of the seeds first !

Really? I eat the seeds too :D
