Nowhere is somewhere

Nowhere can man find a quieter or more untroubled retreat than in his own soul.

- Marcus Aurelius -

Sometimes I set out to go nowhere; nowhere is often somewhere I want to go because nowhere can be somewhere in which I can find what I'm looking for - nowhere, therefore is somewhere.

Fortunately I am able to access nowhere quite easily from my home location and because I have a legitimate off-road vehicle, the accessories and equipment and skills to bring those elements together in an effective, safe and responsible way, I'm able to go nowhere as often as I like, which is quite often...as long as I have the time to go nowhere.

Above is somewhere I went on one of those occasions; I wanted to go nowhere and as you can see it certainly looks like nowhere - it's actually in the middle of nowhere and a fair distance from anywhere - but to me deciding to go there was an easy choice because when I'm nowhere I feel better, like I'm somewhere in which I feel more connected to the world and myself due to the lack of other people, the complexities of life and am within nature which is somewhere I love to be.

Below is another picture of somewhere I went when I wanted to go nowhere to kayak.

flibbettyflingeldalpoowooperthingen.jpg

Usually when I go nowhere I am there to hike, hunt, kayak and camp and sometimes I do all of that and more when I'm nowhere.

I also have favourite places to go when nowhere calls me and is somewhere I feel strongly about going but I love exploring and sometimes I find myself somewhere new, a new nowhere, which is either somewhere I like and will return or don't like and will not return...although even when I want to go nowhere and that place is somewhere I don't like all that much I still enjoy the moment because life is too short not to find enjoyment in all of its moments, when nowhere and somewhere alike.

getafteritbitchaz.jpg

Going nowhere, I mean away from society, professional life, people, the everyday grind, commitments, stress and worry, energises me and grounds me I guess I could say; above you can see me driving through a creek to go nowhere for those very same reasons. It opens me up inside, or maybe it's just that the world around me is able to seep more deeply into me because I allow it, and it brins a certain stillness, peace of mind, spirit and soul I guess, and if that's the only thing that going nowhere brings me then nowhere is somewhere I'm happy and eager to go.

I wonder if you like going nowhere as well.

Do you have somewhere you like to return to over and over, somewhere far away from your everyday life in which you feel more connected to yourself? Do you go nowhere often or is nowhere somewhere you're not inclined to go? Feel free to comment if you like; I'm not going nowhere anytime in the next day or so which means I'll be here, or somewhere, in a position to respond to your comment about nowhere, or somewhere.

Man I just checked and it turns out I haven't been following you even though I thought I had for years! Fixed that with a click!

Your picture is bringing me back a few months to our last back-woods canoe voyage and even ahead to our next one in Sept. I would like to return here over and over to forget the challenges of striving for financial success and drink in the nature a while.

That spot in the image, that's the sort of nowhere I like to go when I feel the need to be somewhere that makes me feel grounded, connected and at peace like only being nowhere can make me feel. Isn't nature simply the best when it comes to offering up such amazing places to be?

There's something so peaceful about canoeing or yakking in the wilderness, it makes me feel sort of small and I imagine what it must have been like long ago when the world was less populated...I think people would have had a closer affinity with the planet, something I actively seek.

Thanks for the image...it looks great.

Thanks also for the follow...I guess there's always so much to see, so many good accounts to follow, it can be difficult to keep up with them all.

You said it. Especially a leader like you who has a larger role in supporting and developing the community here. Fretting about people I haven't discovered yet gets soothed by knowing there are so many treasures yet to discover.

I'm not into gaming and tend to avoid accounts who are which is a shame sometimes there are a few who have such great non-gaming posts but they're only very few and interspersed between endless gaming posts. Also people who reblog many posts multiple times a day, I avoid them too as it fills my feed up with people who I wouldn't normally choose to see.

I like to build relationships, comment and build rapport before I follow an account as I find it the best way to determine who to follow, who they are and what they're about.

Nowhere is a splendid place to be, and going nowhere with the right person is even better and something I like to do. Nowhere is somewhere I want to be, I'll see you there perhaps. 🙃

Becca 🌷

Nowhere is the best somewhere although so many people choose not to go there which seems quite strange to me to be honest.

Maybe I'll see you nowhere sometime soon huh?

I plan to go nowhere with a kayak this summer, on the Tejo River in Portugal. Listening to nature while paddling is a plan I have on my mind since I was there last summer.

Going nowhere with a kayak is somewhere I love going...it's so relaxing. That spot you have there looks amazing!

Hi Galen, taking the quote from Marcus Aurelius, the place I like to explore is my "inside". It may not seem like travelling, but by exercising relaxation, meditation or with a practice like Tai-chi, you can also travel to nowhere. A big hug

Inside is a good place yo go too, looking within provides answers (sometimes questions that require answers) and I think there's a lot to be gained.

I very much agree, even if sometimes unpleasant things can also be found, such trips are very necessary. Greetings and good evening

Finding unpleasant things is an opportunity to change, grow and develop and great things can come of making those changes.

Exactly, and it's funny that I came across your posts at a time of change in my life. You insist a lot on the need to improve, and that's what I'm doing.

Sometimes things just happen at the right time...or maybe we're just more open to what's right in front of us because our mindset changes?

I have been going somewhere all my life.

I just wish I could end up nowhere.

Lol, well somewhere is sometimes somewhere we need to be...come to think of it, nowhere is somewhere we need to be as well, at least as far as I'm concerned.

I hope you can find somewhere that serves as your nowhere soon, I think you need to be nowhere.

Ranger, that four-wheeled vehicle is almost like a boat! 😁

Yeah, it looks that way.

To be honest it looks worse than it was although any deeper and there might have been trouble.

😁😄 You did a good advertising job with this photo. They should pay you!

Lol, yeah that'd be good...instead though, I paid them for the vehicle, a couple of them actually. Oh well, it was my decision.

Wow, those are very interesting places. They look very peaceful, and the first one doesn't have much going on, but can help one focus on their thoughts. The kayaking is the opposite, with a lot of trees, plants, and even fish to look at. I don't have anywhere like that I go to, but it makes me want to look for one though.

I used the first image to demonstrate "nowhere," places away from civilisation, because it's being away from people and in nature that helps me to feel more connected to myself and the planet.

I hope you manage to find somewhere you can go to find a bit of a gap from daily life and society.

My wife and I have a fair number of places that we have found during our camping trips over the last several years. Sometimes we try new places, but often we find ourselves going back to some of our favorites. Anywhere in the upper peninsula is pretty much a given for us. There are still so many areas that are dense forest and while they have likely been explored, they aren't visited that often. We'd like to get some kayaks at some point so we can use them on our camping trips.

Kayaks are good, cumbersome to transport I guess but fun to have; I've been on some great kayak adventures. There's some cool pack-down versions though. See link. Sort of costly though. https://razorkayaks.com.au/

That's one of the main reasons we haven't gotten them yet. I would need to get some kind of rack to put on the top of the truck since we already are pulling the trailer behind us. The other reason was because we didn't want to leave our dog alone at the campsite while we were off kayaking, but now that she is gone that isn't as much of an issue now. I've really liked the fishing kayaks that I have seen where you can stow all your gear. We also know we prefer the "sit on" style versus the "sit in" style. I'll check that site out!

Well .... I can't go anywhere with that regularity... my legs don't go everywhere... or do they? I wish I had wings!

But I do like to explore and wander around nowhere, aimlessly, I love that. And it wasn't always like that... now I feel more free!

But if there's a place where I feel like in paradise, I'll go there soon. My brother and I love nature and he will soon have a holiday, he asked me to accompany him for a whole day to the mountains and another day to the botanical garden. This last one is my paradise!

Wings would be good to carry you to nowhere that is somewhere you'd like to be and I hope you grow them becYse nowhere awaits, somewhere you'll be able to find the peace, quiet and solace you're looking for. May you go nowhere soon! 😊

I'm going nowhere soon!!! Next month, I'm going nowhere a lot! Then comes the summer.... more nowhere🤣

Namaste 🙏 @galenkp Sir, nice to see this word "nowhere", once in a year i go for an outing outside(nowhere) the city without smartphone, just keeping basic phone. i prefer to stay at ashrams (meditation retreat) , where we do yoga meditation and have pure veg food. for bathing we go to river ganga every day.

this seven day make us full of energy and be ready for whole year day to day work.

I can tell you get great value by going nowhere, that is, somewhere you manage to connect with yourself and meditate. Nice work.

While growing up, my father said it a lot.
“Where are you going dad?”
“Nowhere”
“Nowhere could be anywhere”.
“Exactly, that’s the point.”

I eventually understood that whenever he said that, he wants to go somewhere less visited and unwind, or gather his thoughts.

Nowhere has become my favorite place to be too.

Your dad gets it!

It's good that you have managed to pick up on it and that nowhere is somewhere you also like going; I imagine you find value in it like your dad did.

I love this kind of places where you can return as many times as you need and feel like you own that place in one way or another. Sadly, as many places I've seen in this world and in my country especially, I still didn't find this kind of location where I could go alone anytime I felt the need to. But does make a lot of sense for me and I'm sure many enjoy the experience.

It's a pity you haven't manage to find a nowhere in your home area as somewhere to go when you need be nowhere...Keep looking, you'll find it.

This must be a very exciting journey, I read all your stories.
Usually we are comfortable in a place where we are not, but once we are in that place we feel bored and always look for another place that makes us always happy.
Because I feel something like that, and my favorite places are mountains and forests, I always feel comfortable when I'm in those places.

Mountains and forests are amazing places to be and much better when there's no one else there; I fond a certain peace in being in places like that, most natural places, either totally alone or just with my partner.

Yeah, that's absolutely true.
I also like quiet places with beautiful natural sounds such as the sound of birds and crickets, I feel bored in crowded places because of the noise and pollution.

This is what I understand, a real, eventful vacation! In nature, away from the bustle and noise of the city.

Getting away from the city is something I like to do as often as possible, it's easy to do in the city I live in so I get to do it a lot...when time permits.

I adore locations that allow you to feel like you own something and can visit as frequently as you wish. Sadly, even though I've travelled to a lot of places both domestically and abroad, I still haven't found a place where I can go by myself anytime I need to. Still, I think the idea is really cool, and I have no doubt that a lot of other people would love it too.

It's great that you have travelled a lot, it brings experiences that one may not be able to find otherwise. I wonder what your favourite places might be.

I'm grateful. Yes, travelling has been a wonderful experience that has enhanced my life by introducing me to new locations and cultures. It's difficult to pick a favourite location, but I have a special place in my heart for the breathtaking views of Bohol and the gorgeous beaches of Boracay. Every place has a certain allure and sentimental value for me. How about you? Do you have a preferred location that you've been to or would like to visit?

I love Paris, Nice and...(all of France really), and the Tuscany region of Italy as well, been there a lot and enjoyed each time. Austria is beautiful too and many parts of Australia like the tropical north, Tasmania, east coast. Oh, also New Zealand, such a beautiful place, also Vietnam, I liked that a lot too...the UK, Scandinavia...the list goes on.

I've travelled around the world and enjoyed it all so it is really difficult to single out one place.

I am also intending to make a similar program with my friends this summer and go for a walk around our country where there are such beautiful natural areas. The mind becomes more relaxed by going to such places.

Being out in nature is amazing for physical wellbeing but also the mind and soul as well as you have pointed out. I hope you have many outdoor adventures!

Yeah you are right. Hope so.

I was born in a very cold mountainous area, without light or internet, only in contact with nature, animals and family. I love being there when I go back to where I was born, it's like I'm back to myself and I forget about all the external worries.

That's sounds like a perfect place to grow up!

As someone who lives in a City, I am most times trapped in that noisy place but the few times I'm able to get away to 'somewhere', it has been to the countryside, a place I call serenity because of Green sceneries and the cool lake passing through the landscape.
And yes I really enjoy those precious moments of mine. And @galenkp, that Lake really looks like the one in my village 😁

Hopefully you manage to get yourself out if the city now and then so you can find the peace and quiet you desire.

I really like places that are far from the crowds because they make me calm and comfortable,
Your post really motivates me friend, it's very beautiful

Crowds complicate things, nature, the wilderness, is simple and I feel more human there.

Such a an amazing place.
I want to go nowhere too away from my town to relax, but the heat index hits 42°🥺

Yeah, it gets hot here too when it's summer and aim reluctant to move far away from the air conditioning.

Your words are really complicated. It really takes time for me to understand it. The words that come to mind once understood are saying a lot. @galenkp

I'm pleased to read that you finally worked it out, thanks for letting me know.

You make great sense here. There are times we just don't know what to do and then decide to just go anywhere just to discover that place we later landed was actually where we should have been.

I just boarded a cap one day to stay out of my children disturbance at home. Then I entered an isolated structure where they was no much disturbance. From then I discovered I could actually generate contents easily if I get there. I've been going there since then for meditation and reflection

I'm glad you found what you were looking for. Thanks for sharing.

😂 Good morning, @galenkp.
After reading your post I remembered a story. About a year ago, on my husband's birthday. There wasn't any money on any of us. So, I woke up and went to my workshop (I have a mini factory where I make leather bags).
When I got to the shop that morning, I had nowhere in mind but I needed to go home with money. So I took some of the sample that were in the workshop and went to a school (since it was the season they were preparing for end-of-year party. Honestly, my nowhere became somewhere. I came back with a contract close to a million Naira 😃😃🤣 Really, going nowhere can actually become somewhere.

I'm not sure how much a million naira is but it sounds a lot. Good work, it seems like going nowhere worked out well.

I still remember after many years the sensation of going nowhere, it was really many places inside a mountain range, I felt an indescribable freedom and the immense landscapes filled me with a peace that I was missing... I felt great in the heights, although I died of panic if I was caught by the night there...

It seems you know what's it's like to find a place that makes you feel more connected. Well done.
