Bonkers One to Little Bonkers, come in Little Bonkers.

Good copy Bonkers One, go for Little Bonkers, over.

The Bird is in the nest...I say again, The...bird...is...in...the...nest, how copy, over.

Copy, copy Bonkers One, mission success. Little Bonkers out.

Since I found out my nephew was coming to visit we've been talking about "the mission"; that is, the trip we needed to take to the mall to search out and secure a Lego purchase for us to build together - a worthy objective indeed.

"we're going to look for matching uncle-nephew outfits."We'd planned it out, how we would divert the attention of my partner and @mrbonker's parents long enough for us to insert, deploy the mission and exfil safely to secure the objective. We decided the diversionary tactics would involve getting them ensconced in a cafe with a cake and coffee (don't worry, we'd be back to partake of cake ourselves after the mission) and off we'd deploy to the shop. Part of the ruse was that we'd say,

We were certain the plan would work, I mean don't all uncles and nephews wear matching clothing?

We fast-roped out of the helo which hovered at the DZ just long enough to deposit us deep within Lego territory and seconds after our boots hit the ground we were on high alert as we patrolled to the area where we knew we'd locate the target. Fucken Lego y'all!

Ok, we didn't fast-rope down at all...there wasn't even a helicopter, (although I wish there was), but the lad and I walked through the mall to the department store called, Myer, where I knew I'd find Lego at 20% off retail - and we shopped. It was really cute because he reached up and held my hand as we walked though...a nice moment for an uncle and one that won't last forever as he'll get older and all.

I let him pick out the Lego, you can see it above...No, he doesn't actually have a beard, he's only six and a half years old, but I don't have a @mrbonkers head to cover his real face up so I used the one I use for my own images.

The mission went flawlessly and we returned triumphantly to the cafe where the other three were none-the-wiser that we had purchased Lego.

Ok, they knew but pretended not to.

I actually bought him some clothes when we were on the mission as well which he showed off proudly and because we don't lie to family we came clean about the Lego talking about it over the cake and coffee (he had hot chocolate) we finally got in celebration of mission success.

We'll be building the Lego set shortly, the bugger has been pestering me about it since we got it and has come up with so many scenarios all of which justify building it that very second. We'll get to it though, eventually, and we'll both enjoy the experience of building Lego again.

I love secret missions, and this one was just about as vital as could be! The agents were selected for their intelligence, cunning and dedication to the objective. The methods of diversion, deployment and extraction were top notch! The matching uncle/nephew clothing cover was well thought out.

After rejoining the squad, a suitable commendation (cake and beverages) was awarded and the success of the mission was revealed to all.

The most touching part was the holding of the hand. A small inconsequential gesture from @mrbonkers, but a lifelong warm fuzzy for his uncle.

Loved reading the story and I know you will have fun building the Lego together. Memories are made this way.

It's all really cool huh? The memory of this, and other events we've shared, will be treasured for a long time by me and I hope him also.

It was fun going on our mission and the deception we created to make it happen. We have done so many cool things like (don't tell anyone), I took him shooting some of my handguns a couple days ago (yeah I know he's only six and a half) and he will remember that moment for life...as he will driving (off-roading) my truck for a half hour sitting on my lap steering as I used the brake and accelerator. We did some gnarly tracks and he couldn't wipe the grin off his face. It was a very nice moment for me...and now I have a buyer for my truck when I want to sell it as my nephew wants it.

We've flown kites, hiked, visited victor Harbour and Granite Island (places I went as a kid with my parents), went to the botanic Gardens, the museum, played Lego, Uno, Jenga, watched the Duke Boys (Dukes of Hazzard), had water fights, read Asterix and Obleix (my nephew says I'm Obelix and he's Asterix), went on a paddle steamer at Goolwa, had BBQ's, went out for breakfasts, lunches and dinners, ate pancakes at The Pancake Kitchen, watched motor racing, star gazing, went to the beach and swam, walked and had ice cream, went to the hardware store, did some boxing...loads more things too. I know I'm going to miss him the moment he leaves (I'm not great at goodbyes despite having to make many of them over my life), but I'll have all of those things to remember and to look forward to next time.

Way cool! He will be talking about this trip for a long, long time. Man, you guys have done so much in the short time he's been there. When he gets back home he's going to fall into his own bed that first night with total exhaustion.

I was unfamiliar with Asterix and Obelix and had to Google it....the resemblance is uncanny 😂.

It will take him quite awhile to relate to his friends all the escapades you and he went on lol. It would be sweet if you could make a sort of a 'highlights' video for him to watch through the year until his next visit. By the time he comes of age, he will have a wonderful book-worthy collection of his time together with The Best Uncle In The World.

You will miss him tremendously, but just think, you have a year in which to form a plan for his next visit!

We've packed it in for sure but it's not been rushed. He's full of energy and doesn't whine and complain like some other kids so it's easy to do multiple things on a day. He's here for a while yet so have more stuff to do and I hope he goes home feeling like it was a great trip. (I'm a bit worn out, been sleeping solidly...but might need a week off to recover!)

Have a wonderful time with him and the rest of the family. I am sure these days you are spending together are unforgettable.

Unforgettable for sure and for me, the uncle who doesn't get to see this cool little kid much it means the world.

20% of the Mercedes Benz 4wd on the bottom shelf must have been tempting.

It was but I needed something my nephew could build and take home to Cairns in the plane. I have given him a car transporter I built (and took apart for him to take home as well)...1m long in total so a lot of peices. So, the choice was all about space saving.

That mission sounded risky but fun, but they pulled it off with flying colours, I can't wait to see the Lego assembled!!!! Imagine the whole situation and it was great, enjoy it very much! More coffee and cake!

It was risky...the risk was me buying way too much Lego for him...but we managed to contain ourselves.

Beware that this risk may reappear and wanting more Lego.... minimises the risk.🤣

Looks like a pretty cool set. It's crazy the variety and complexity of the offerings they have now. I remember when I was a kid it was basically just the city, space, knights, and technics sets. They were just starting to come out with the pirate line to accompany the knights kits.

I was only saying that to my brother the other day...how basic Lego was. I don't agree with all the stuff they bring out these days, how they feel the need to cater for specific groups in politically correct ways...I guess it's a reflection of society and its wokeness though.

It's been so long since I have shopped for Lego's that I don't even know what all they have these days. My youngest nephew has graduated to wanting to build his own computer, so I have been helping him with that.

I built a computer once...if going to the store and buying one constitutes building. 😄

I guess in a round about way... :)

Haha, I told you 😂 Not only building Lego but also buying 😂 I am a little bit jealous 😔 Apparently, I’m too old for my family to buy me Lego sets! Pfff 😂 Tell your little bonkers he has the best uncle in the world!

No one is ever too old for Lego, I know this to be true.

And thank you, I like to think I'm a great uncle, I try to be, and I'm pretty sure the little bonkers would tell you I was the best. He's a good lad, the best little nephew a fellow could have. I've very proud of him.

I still find it a bit strange that your love for lego doesn't extend to puzzles as well. For me they seem quite similar-you are building something from tiny pieces. But I guess lego is more versatile because you can build other things from it as well while with puzzles you are stuck with single objective- to build the image on the box...

I still find it a bit strange

Maybe it's me who's strange?

Seriously though, my life is a complex puzzle so I don't feel the need to add more puzzling things to it.

I thought I saw in a post that you wrote that Mr Bonkers was 6 years old when he participated in a bike race and won the trophy?

Now you've bought Lego for 8+ years. Are you planning to help him or let him do it on his own?

He's 6 and a half. He builds 16+ Lego sets though, I gave him one such set to take home with him, one of my own.

He's a smart kid and has the assistance of his dad who is an electrical engineer and a nautical architect so the lad has been taught process and how to follow technical plans. I have taught @mrbonkers how to build Lego, the processes required, and he follows them perfectly. I wrote a post on it a while back.

That Lego for 16+ is very complicated. awell done for young @mrbonkers 🏆 (and for dad and uncle, valuable helpers)🙂

I was at a friend's house today, he is a Lego fan, he has several models of cars.
I will show the pictures in one of the next posts, now I know in which community 🙂

I’m all for secret missions, and this one was as vital as they come! The team was clearly handpicked for their intelligence, resourcefulness, and commitment to getting the job done. The diversion tactics and extraction were spot on, and the matching outfits cover is only the cherry on top. :) I bet adventures like these are burned in core memory and weights much more than material - like Legos themselves.

You've summed it up well and I'm also pretty sure he'll remember this trip and all the things we did quite fondly. That was my aim.

Unforgettable mission

The mission description was so good that I felt like I was in a special ops movie 😅
As a nephew, I can tell you that those days together are never forgotten.

How Mrbonkers choose that set? If it were me , I couldn't, and with F1 behind, it would be even harder

I'd end up spending all my money on those Legos 😂

Good question.

He applied logic...but came up with the biggest set being the one he needed. I applied some logic and he began to see that he needed a medium sized one as he had to get it home on the plane. So, he ended up with the garbage truck. I have dismantled a set I built previously which I've given to him, it's one metre long, and thousands of parts and I reminded him of that and he was like, oh yeah uncle, let's get a smaller one this time then. He's a good kid.

He also has a few racing cars already abut no garbage truck so he wanted to build something different, exactly like I would as well.

Mrbonkers is a smart guy; without a doubt, his choice is something out of the ordinary, very different from the rest, with good reasoning.

How long did it take you to assemble the thousand pieces?😅 It sounds like a big but fun project

We built the set over a couple days although he wanted to do it all at once. I paced it out though, got more value from it, and then we played with it a few times. I also let him drive some of my even bigger, remote control, Lego builds. He loved it.

Hi @galenkp , it is very likely, I think so, that @mrbonker will travel many more miles than his uncle with his SUV touring “The Big Lap”. @mrbonker will travel virgin territories where no one has been before, only with his imagination.

Congratulations on mission accomplished.

I'd take @mrbonkers on my trip anyway, he's good company and the chance to teach him some things would be most welcome.

I have no doubt, I'm traveling around here. Who would have thought it a year ago? 🤔🤣

I've been a bit absent from Hive due to spending time with my nephew. Have you been well? Hopefully you're going ok and life is being good to you.

While you were with who you had to be with. I have been more active in Hive, although not publishing. Supporting a new project: there is (finally) @hive-spain. There is a wonderful team. I am very happy.

Ah ok fair enough.

I'm not really into those little groups that separate one set of people out from others, I see us as all one group and don't like the divisiveness that cultural groups promote. Good luck though.

I believe that it is not a question of separating, but everything is open to opinion. In my case I have found people who share a way of seeing life, which makes me happy. The objective is to promote Hive in Spain, to recover the hiviers that are now inactive and to grow, as the presentation underlines, in an organic way. The latter is to be discussed in a few years.

Thank you very much for the good wishes.

🙌 He's doing a great job as moderator, so if you're planning a visit to Spain, you'll be in good hands haha. 😉

The garbage truck is a cool little build, some nice features in it

The bin lifter is pretty cool and the way it dumps into the truck too. He enjoyed building it.

seems like u both had much fun together n that "top secret mission", u will both remember this adventure for ever & someday he will tell the story to his own nephew!, "don't all uncles and nephews wear matching clothing?""No,he doesn't actually have a beard, he's only six and a half years old" those parts were really funny haha, everyone got a cake- that's the best ending ever haha. have a great day

I'm happy to say I have the best nephew there ever was and I work hard to be the best uncle. He's a good kid and I think he will remember this trip for a long time. I'll be dead before the lad is thirty years old, or a very old man, so memories like we've made will be important to him I hope.

Because I don't like that you self-vote all of your own posts. I find it greedy and selfish.

okay, thanks for clarifying that at least. Self-voting has been a discussion ever since we have had Hive/Steem. Personally, I think that at a certain threshold it shouldn't be done (whale status?).

A portion of my self-votes also goes into the reward pool of one of the longest standing contest on Hive. With over 200 contests and an average payout of around 20 Hive, I have given over 4000 Hive back to the community over the years. I also upvote around 200 Hivers on a daily basis with Hive.Vote.

The article you downvoted was a rather important one (I don't often write about politics) and I felt it was unfortunate that it was targeted.

Little Wookie has that one and the dog truck beside it.

He’s 8 now and his imagination has kicked in and he’s starting to build his own stuff not from the manual. Lego is awesome for that.

We never had Lego as kids. We had the Mexican version called Torro. I loved Torro.

A weird selection ! A bin lorry LOL, overshadowing the F1 cars,

Seemingly, but what you don't know is I already have all the F1 cars and my nephew will eventually get them all from me...doesn't make sense to buy them again.

So not so weird at all.

That explains it!!!!!

I thought it might.
