We're going to get personal today...
And I remember the last health scare or wake up call I got almost exactly 4 years ago. It was in April of 2021 and the doctor let me know...
You are diabetic.
Something changed in me when he told me that, and all I thought about were my kids. I was determined to turn my health around and make sure they didn't see their dad in a coffin too soon...So I made some major changes in my life.
Started walking / hiking every day.
Cut carbs out completely.
And within 6 months or so, my A1C levels were way down and the doctors where amazed at how much weight I lost and how 'under control' my diabetes was.
The thing about diabetes though....If you don't watch it like a HAWK, it never is under control.
And here I am, 4 years later back to my old habits, eating garbage food, not walking, and under more stress that a human being should ever be under.
Of course, that combination turned into this...
Two trips to the hospital in a week....
Diabetes leads to a lot of complications and I got a nasty infection because my body doesn't heal like non-diabetics would. So I ended up on Sunday night, getting some slices and dices to remove the infection....And today I went back for a check up.
Good news, the doctors say everything is healing well. God is good! Prayers were answered...
However, there was som pretty alarming things that was revealed to me, namely my INSANELY high blood pressure.
My blood sugars are o.k. but that BP is really not good. So it's time to make some major changes in my life and get back into putting health a priority.
And it comes down to this....I owe it to my wife. My kids. My family.
I need to be around for them, and sure tomorrow isn't promised, but it won't be because I won't put my all into my health.
I'll be going back to the basics of proper diet, very low sodium and low carbs. Lots of veggies and fruits! Plenty of water but what has been missing from my routine is...
Actual physical activity.
I live in a very nice part of Canada and the weather is getting much warmer so there is no excuse for me not to get out on those hiking trails again every day or so. Start slow and build myself back up....
It's time.
Enough of the excuses. And I hope by putting it out there, some awesome folks out there on the blockchain can hold me accountable.
Next week I'm going to get some vitals so I can track my progress and see what a total life style change can bring. Until then...I'm still on the mend. One more trip to the hospital on Thursday for an 'all clear' by God's grace.
I'm not done yet!

Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you transfer the approach and mindset you have when it comes to marketing and Bible study to exercising and fitness, you will be fine. Good luck!
Its a fight you will have to fight for the rest of you life. But you have already shown that you can win it. Now you just need to find a solution to keep it in that state constant.
Yeah man, just need to keep at it. No secrets to healthy living.
No the basics are pretty straight forward. Do some exercise and try to eat good food :)
How is it when having diabetes, is fasting a good or bad option?
It's a fantastic option. I read Dr Jason Fung's Diabetes Code when I was diagnosed...That's what he teaches...Low carbs and fasting to control A1C's
Hi Jon
The indigenous community here do not call it Diabetes, They call it Sugar Sickness, and believe it or not it is more relatable and makes it more tangible for the communities and individuals to deal with.
It takes on a more than personal context and becomes a community based issue.
However now the rest of us live in a microwaved fast food society where it is so much easier to be enabled through bad habits and the good ones are not reinforced enough.
I do know that as I get more mature in years it is a definite commitment to stay as healthy and fit as possible, especially when I have a day job that is sedentary, sitting all day.
Ensuring I eat well is a must and making sure I move my body is a must.
I hope that you take better care of yourself Jon, there is much to be around for, and one cannot muck about with what we have.
It is time. Take out that Gym Membership, make sure you walk, push bike and above all else take good care of your diet.
I plan on being on this mortal plain for another 20 years at least and so should you :)
Get better soon! !PIZZA !GIFU
thanks man
Get well soon mate. I know how dangerious diabetic can be in one's life if is not under control. Care your kidneys!
God is good always
The problem lies in when we feel lazy and don't do any physical activity.
This is the thing we shouldn't be compromising on.
The most important thing for your health is taking care of your diet. I hope you feel better.
Joining a team sport makes it easier to be consistent. You can also challenge your children; they're sure to never tire of walking.
I have faith in you, you can do it.
When the doctor told my husband he was borderline diabetic, he started counting his calories and lost a bunch of weight. When he went back to the doctor, he was no longer borderline, and that was 25 years ago, he has kept the weight off.
I'm not sick of anything serious at all and I'm grateful to God for that but walking every day helps me too. It's a good plan to start slow with the hikes. You got this Mr Jongo
Just make sure that you adhere to the rules that won’t trigger the diabetes and you’ll surely live a healthy life throughout your years on earth
