It is no secret that New York Mets prospect, Luisangel Acuña, impressed mightily to end the 2024 regular season. Acuña was called up and filled a large role for the club after Francisco Lindor injured his back. Acuña ended the regular season with 39 at-bats, going 12-for-39 with six extra-base hits, six runs batted in, and a .966 OPS. He impressed so much, he was included on the postseason roster, albeit, only getting three at-bats with Lindor back and healthy.
Despite the strong first showing in the big leagues to end the regular season, would it serve the Mets better to look to move their 22-year-old prospect? Especially in a deal for a controllable, young starting pitcher?
Not So Fast?
The concern starts with Acuña’s minor-league production since coming over from the Texas Rangers in the deal for Max Scherzer. At the time of the trade, Acuña had an .830 OPS across 362 at-bats for Double-A Frisco. However, he finished 2022 with Double-A Binghamton, in the Mets’ system, posting a .622 OPS across 148 at-bats, over a 200-point drop. For those curious, according to Baseball America, the ballpark factors at both Frisco and Binghamton’s home parks are very comparable.
Despite the troubling end to 2023, Acuña, who has spent some time ranked as a top-100 prospect in baseball, was still regarded as a top prospect in the Mets’ system to begin 2024. Unfortunately, it was mostly the same story for the versatile prospect as, now playing with Triple-A Syracuse, Acuña posted a .654 OPS across 547 at-bats prior to his call-up. Both his walk rate (5.5%) and overall power (.097 ISO) were very troubling. However, he did swipe 40 bags.
Both the Yankees and the Mets have offered Juan Soto contracts north of $700 million, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
If one of the deals are signed, Soto would blow past Shohei Ohtani‘s record-breaking $700 million contract that he signed last offseason. Heyman noted that the contracts are between the $710-730 million range.

O diretor técnico reconheceu que a instabilidade na comissão técnica, com a troca de treinadores, foi um dos principais fatores que prejudicaram a formação de um grupo coeso e forte. Além disso, Autuori apontou falhas no aspecto mental e tático da equipe como cruciais para o fracasso na temporada.
— Erramos, senão não estaríamos nessa situação. Na minha opinião, o maior erro, foram as mudanças nas lideranças (treinadores) e não conseguimos formar um grupo. Mais do uma equipe, um grupo. Você atinge objetivos quando se tem grupo forte e quatro pilares são importantes para isso: físico, técnico, tático e mental. Falhamos muito no aspecto mental. Não tivemos força mental e a competência tática para atingir os objetivos — falou.
A falta de experiência de alguns jogadores, aliada à pressão de um ano tão especial, pode ter contribuído para esse cenário. No entanto, Autuori ressaltou que a responsabilidade é compartilhada por todos os envolvidos no processo, incluindo a comissão técnica, os jogadores e a diretoria.
— As coisas não acontecem no final. Tivemos como equipe muitas oportunidades de ficar em uma situação tranquila. Não fomos competentes para isso. Momentos em que tivemos em nossas mãos e não tivemos a competência necessária para fazer as coisas da melhor maneira possível — completou.
Com o rebaixamento, o Athletico volta à Série B após 12 temporadas. Em 2025, o Furacão vai tentar retornar à elite. Antes disso, porém, o time terá pela frente o Campeonato Paranaense e também a Copa do Brasil.

Dodgers To Sign Michael Conforto
The Dodgers have agreed to a deal with outfielder Michael Conforto, per a report from MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez adds that Conforto’s deal with L.A. is a one-year pact worth $17MM.
Conforto, 32 in March, was selected by the Mets tenth overall in the 2014 draft and emerged as an impact bat for the club early in his career. In his first six seasons as a big leaguer, Conforto slashed an incredible .259/.358/.484 with a wRC+ of 128. Conforto made an All-Star appearance, slugged 118 homers in 632 games, and established himself as one of the best young offensive players in the NL.
