I am no one special.
But I am uniquely me.
And I don't mean this in some kind of snowflaky kind of way where I believe that I should be treated as some kind of magical individual and have all of my whims and desires met by anyone who ever comes in contact with me. I mean, in the way that there is no one else in the world who has the experience that I have and therefore, not a singular person who has an identical perspective on the world.
It might be a pretty view.
Or clever, beautiful or useful - but it is mine. And as such, there may be some value in what is said for some people who might chance upon it on Hive, as they engage with something that could affect their own experience in some way - hopefully positively.
In the last post I was talking a little about paying for content on Hive and while it might not be necessary at this point or perhaps ever, it is good to understand what makes content on Hive valuable. And in my opinion, there is a very easy litmus test as to whether it should be considered at all for earning Hive or not - is it unique to Hive?
While there are likely some caveats to this, if it isn't unique to Hive, it shouldn't earn Hive, especially if it is available for free elsewhere. There is no value for Hive in content that is plastered all over the internet on various sites, even if it is original content, because if it is available there, what makes it valuable here?
This is especially true for content that is generic, that doesn't have anything different from the content adjacent to it, nothing that sets it apart in the mind of the viewer, the consumer. Nothing that makes the "buyer" say,
"I am choosing this one over that one because...xyz"
If we look at it like buying a car from the same class of vehicle, what kinds of decisions do we make about which brand? There are the features, advantages and benefits - as well as the drawbacks. But then there are many other factors that become more subjective too, like preferred looks and reputation of the manufacturer. So, what we end up doing is making comparisons when we don't have a lot of experience, and then start to build our preferences as we gain more experience with what we are looking at.
Build relationships.
Think about how people go to the movies because of certain actors, people who they have never met, but they "trust" that if so and so is in it, it will likely be good. This doesn't necessarily even mean that they are a good actor or the movies are actually good, but what it comes down to is that for some reason, the consumer has created an emotional connection or connotation to the actor. In many situations, the content of the movie doesn't actually matter much, because people are attached to the cast. Depending how attached, an actor can make several bad movies (or perhaps never make a good one) and still draw in a committed audience, because the audience follows them, not the content.
People pay to go to bad movies.
They also pay to go to good movies, so this isn't an excuse to produce shit content, because good content is far more attractive than shite and longterm trust is built through consistently producing good content. This doesn't however mean that every piece of content is gold, as crap inevitably happens too, but consistency builds relationships.
And this then speaks toward the "random content" that people consume by the bucketload these days. Shortform pieces streaming at a high pace from many different creators constantly, but what you will find is that other than the odd "viral" clip, the majority of the monetization goes to a narrow handful of people that are pushed by the platforms they are on. And, what you will also realize is that all that shortform stream of random content coming through the feeds is free.
It is free for a reason.
No one would pay directly for it to consume it. The content on those platforms isn't the reason for the platform, it is just a mechanism to attract advertising revenue. It is all about the clicks, not the content, which also points at how the profession of journalism has degraded into pushing out celebrity gossip and sensational clickbait content, because it baits those clicks.
The same can be said on Hive of course, where the content is created to attract value through votes, but there is a direct relationship on Hive between creator and consumer and because it is actually freely available, the content attracts tips, not payments - of course, through a unique mechanism of staking, unless tipping HIVE/HBD directly.
For a lot of the consumers on Hive and especially for the ones who have stake here, there is value in Hive content, simply because it is on Hive, which means it is a contender for a vote and therefore, curation return. Votes are content agnostic of course, but people aren't and those who actually care about the value of their staked tokens and the future of the platform, will likely also be more discerning with what content gets voted. This is not a rule though, so there is plenty of leeway for crap to get voted as people maximize through their various techniques to do so, but in a general sense, most people who consume on Hive, do care about what they spend their time reading, even if they also care about the value they will get returned to them.
There is a funny contradiction which might be nuanced and get overlooked in consumers, where people want the sense of "exclusive", but also want to be "on trend", whether it be a clothing fashion, latest gadget or content - people want to have what others don't have, but also want to have exactly what others have. This is not as much of an issue online, because people are more isolated and therefore, don't know who has what in terms of content, as long as the individual feels that they are one of the "few" or in terms of new content, one of the "first."
Remember when on popular message bourds when a new post came up, people would write "first"?
That is the mentality with content on the internet in general and there is some sense to it in terms of canonical content and links, where the first instance becomes the "source of truth". This is important for Hive, not just for SEO, but because it could be one of the core usecases, where the very first instance of content is transparently timestamped on an immutable blockchain.
Proof.
This post has got well off track, hasn't it?
But that is okay, because as you can probably predict, this is the general way I write and it is expected of me to ramble through a stream of thoughts. And, whilst many might not agree, there is value in these thoughts for various Hive user groups who actually spend their time on Hive and caring about what happens to Hive today and in ten years from now.
When it comes to content creation, my advice is "be yourself" which doesn't seem like overly useful advice, but if you had been paying attention, actually is. The reason is that no one else is you, so if you spend your time trying to create "good content" that is like someone else's, the value you have is lost and most likely, there is someone else out there (probably the person you are copying) who is doing it better than you on a platform for free, or monetized centrally.
Why would a consumer tip you when they can get better than you elsewhere?
Again, this isn't about being the "best" at something either, it is about being a human that is relatable, someone who people can interact with and learn to care about, and you care about them. The value of "content on Hive"" is not about the consumption of the information within the post, it is in the building of relationships through the lens of what is in the post and over time, that lens shifts and the relationships evolve further.
Content on Hive builds the Hive community
There is no best topic or best personality, and no perfect formatting or writing style. It is about finding your style and your voice and using it to engage with people who are interested in what matter to you and by extension, what you bring to the table for them. It is an ongoing discussion between creator and consumer, not throwaway content that gets pushed through the feed to be half eaten and tossed away before digestion even has a chance to begin.
You don't have to be special, to be successful on Hive.

How would anyone know if content is unique on Hive? I've upvoted this post because I enjoyed reading it and you seem like a Ripper Rita/You Beauty, but I'm not sure I'm interested in searching for your text at other locations because that seems like a lot of work.
So this post has earned Hive because it was valuable to me - and I have no idea if it was printed elsewhere, or even if it was printed elsewhere first...
You aren't likely interested in it being on Hive only, but over time, you would likely pay more attention to this, especially if the content was obviously elsewhere and in the comments section there would be people pointing it out and downvotes from those who do care. There is also increasing automation that finds duplicates too, which will likely get better and automate further.
But then, you have to also think about how you found this content, which is because you follow me. But, how and why did you end up following me in the first place? It has been a while, but most likely it was because other people "suggested" (in various ways) back in the day that I was worth a follow and they did so because I produce original content daily that isn't found anywhere else. You keep dropping by because you have found it valuable too (in some way), which drives the loop.
All of these little random things add up and when they are consistently adding up, there is that continuity and familiarity, as well as the relationships built that extends past an individual piece of content and into the relationship sectors. It really does become a community that was connected through individual pieces of content, but extends into sharing parts of lives.
Content generally gets consumed once by an individual, but relationships cover many pieces of content and work to create more individual pieces to add into the stream.
Hmm, those are all really good points. I keep dropping back in because what you write is decent and thoughtful, but also because there's a good chance you'll see my comment and maybe even reply... which is something that people won't do if they drop their content in multiple places. If someone replies days later, well, I've mentally completely moved on.
So you're right... I won't know that content is unique to Hive by checking myself, but there are plenty of other clues (like number of comments and speed to replies) that do indicate the author is highly focused on Hive.
Also... you can't rewrite history... I'm following you because your brother said he'd shoot me if I didn't. Don't pretend it's because you're a good writer, it was a fear-based follow.
Fear-based follows is what I have been targeting, but I wanted to be the feared one....
Hahaha, well, to be honest, I'm way more scared of small childs than dudes with guns... but you've never threatened to throw a kid at me so here we are.
Totally agree with you on the point of @tarazkp actively engaging with the comments, that's kind of the reason why I follow him.
While the content is interesting and makes a good read, but if there is no active user engagement, readers slowly stop showing up.
Will this do for a comment? ;D
I would downvote the comment if I wasn't worried about getting kicked out of our alliance guild :p

The biggest hurdle when I first joined HIVE was to navigate and find people to follow.
We started off with pretty much blank, little directions and guidance. There are some posts for noobs but they are way too long.
Initial blogging was also quite challenging, a bit aimless. What’s uniquely myself? That is a good question. Should I post my daily routine to start off? No, I still prefer some privacy.
Sometimes simplicity works better, and we should encourage short form content in addition to the traditional long form blogs.
Yeah, it is still an issue but has become easier. It is hard to find people to consistently follow I think. I feel like I need to trust them enough :D
Ever notice how those "success on Hive" people never last on Hive?
I think that writing actually helps discover this in us and connect with ourselves more deeply, which leads to building ourselves into something different than we thought we were or, what we started as. It is a process - just like life :)
I agree - but it should be short and original, not just copy paste from some other site or rehashed thoughts of others with a couple small edits.
Voted as you went into a derp, that's my territory! Is that your missus in there with you?
:)
Yeah, it is her. This one was "easy access" at the time. An old matchstick factory that is now being renovated into apartments, shops and a daycare. It was a great building.
I don't think Hive will be successful because of the content. Only a Curator Investor, HBD Investor, Splinterlands Investor will make it successful.
Yes, and these things go hand in hand. Shit content will not attract the attention required for larger investors. THis has to be a place to come for interesting entertainment media and an ROI on investment and the like.
The investor will come for profit from his stack. And good content will compete for upvotes. But the investor will not bring money here for the sake of content, content is secondary.
For many investors that might be the case, but for those who build their investment on Hive as well, they will care about the content too, because they fit in both worlds.
Investors helps to the project to become more popular. If someone has one special quality you can easily popular on hive. I agree with you some people's create good and meaningful content on hive. Something you can not like the story of movie but you can watch full movie because of your favorite star movie you can attach with the star emotionally. You can give best car example if someone going to market to check many cars than select his car to buy it. Hive big users save some of hive power and take 20'/' Apr. Its also good for users. Thanks for sharing your valuable point of view.
If we judged everything objectively, most of the trends in this world would never exist. Would likely be a far better world :)
Dear @tarazkp Hive, it will not be the only thing that solves financial problems at home, but the truth is that Hive has represented me, one of the most valuable and important opportunities to help me with my medicines, medical consultations and other needs at home In conclusion, you have to be inside Hive, to see how valuable it is. successes
It is amazing how many people it has helped over the years - it must be in the tens of thousands!
That's how it is dear @tarazkp that's why we must strengthen Hive, with good publications and a lot of unity among all, worldwide. From Venezuela I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and much success at Hive.
Interesting take on what it takes to be successful on Hive. I think patience and consistency are two big keys too. It is very possible to write the worlds best most creative and unique post and get near $0.00 in Hive for it if you are new as there are just SO many new posts every day/hour being generated. And that can be very discouraging, but with every relationship you build, and every quality post you make you can and will grow.

It makes such a difference and it is hard to maintain through the ups and downs - but those that do tend to do okay.
Interesting post I personally really like when someone writes about the topic of Hive rewards, because it is one of the main driving factors behind hive blockchain that's why I think we should discuss and explore it as much as possible to improve it
There is one thing not highlighted in above article that is there are many hive users and content curators who are not giving upvotes because they read compleet post in other words they didn't consumed content they just gives upvotes to receive Curation rewards, that's why there are so many Curation trails users follow them and not even check which type of content they are upvoting automatically, another example is when someone delegated there HP hive power to another account for receiving Curation rewards he didn't care about which post or type of content is receiving upvotes
That's why I think manual Curation is the very important
I hope you understand my point, I am sorry because I am not a native English speaker that's why sometimes I really struggled to explain something
In simple words hive Curation or upvotes system is very complicated its not all about uniqueness and quality of content there are so many other factors or elements
Because so many times I spend hours to create a post which I think is a, unique, orginal and killer post created by me, but I received only few cents in rewards, Or sometimes I write few words in few minutes but I received few dollars on it
A single upvote from a curator who have more hive Power or upvote value can give you triple digits in rewards on the other hand three hundred upvotes from users who have very less hive Power and upvote value not gives you 1 dollars in rewards on hive
It is very important, but it is not something that can be enforced, which means that the content has to be good enough in order to be able to attract manual voters, which requires building those relationships. If it descends into just voting for curation alone, that doesn't work. Similarly, if people creating content are only doing it for the votes, the content is unlikely to be the kind of content that actually attracts voters.
Most people do not understand many of these factors, even when they think they do. It is complex and it is far more than understanding the blockchain code, it requires some understanding of human behavior, and not just a sliver of them.
This is the luck of the draw in many regards, but if you build up a following, the consistency in reward tends to increase too. The number of voters is completely meaningless in regards to value though, because it is all based on stake. The number of voters also doesn't represent whether a post is popular, since most of the small voters are automated and not necessarily by individuals - there are people with hundreds and thousands of accounts in trails.
Sr. I really impressed with your point of view, only an experienced hive content creator can answer these questions like this
It's really help me to understand it better with a different perspective
Thanks For your continues support and encouragement ❤️
This content of yours is truly precious and full of ideas, needless to say that I love the way I write, how you digress and return to the subject, stories that make you think and let you know a little about yourself, obviously to do so you need to be attentive readers; I like Hive because I find so much interesting and unique content, obviously when we play the role of curators we make sure that the post is not only beautiful but also original and vredl that this is an important thing because it makes Hive a responsible user. Thanks sempee for the nice post and the food for thought 🤗
Not as precious as the precious. Everyone knows that.
I see you discovered my brother...He'll keep you busy reading.
Hive is really cool in terms of building an organic network through content. Most other "forum-type" platforms tend not to build relationships in the long-term, but here, I talk with people I have been talking with for five years already, many of whom I have also met along the way too :)
Support the content you enjoy with comments and votes and in general, more of that kind of content will be created.
So in the meantime, thanks to all three for the comments, it's something I love! @galenkp Are you referring to @tarazkp ....eh eh I've been following him for a while, I love how he writes and what he writes, one could guess that you are brothers, you are both very deep and centered. I agree that a beautiful network can be built here that can be carried forward over the years, the thing I love is that it is a positive network that has growing potential. A hug to all three and thank you! Always thanks!
Your content is definitely unique and personal!
Yet I don't do selfies! :D
I have said it before, I find your content of great value, even though I admittedly don't consume as much as I used to (work stress 😌).
I also wonder what kind of content will survive when the Hive chain finally matures and we find our identity. It is interesting because of the subjective nature of value.
For me personally, a lot of my finance content reflect personal reflections, frustrations and expectations. The ideas may not be new though.
Work sucks!
I reckon the content will evolve and if it really does become popular, the "professionals" will take over a lot of the creation and vote value. However, the platform evolves too and there will be new ways to interact and for the "oldies" to earn too. I still believe strongly that stake matters though, so it is going to be one of those things where people who powered up a bit, will always have a space here.
New doesn't matter perhaps in this case - personal does. Nearly everyone struggles financially with many on a path to correct it, so it becomes a movement together.
No, but you have to be special to possess the precious.
The chosen.
Yes, I am...not like those tricksy hobbitses.
You're special to me believe it or not. I love to visit your posts and dream to be a hiver like you someday. You can count me as your hiver fan and I'm inspired by you everyday. Pray for me that someday I can achieve success like you. Have a nice day, stay blessed 💝💖💗
Have some fun with life and Hive and let it shine through. If it is all taken too seriously, it is a pathway to burnout.
Thank you so much sir for your kind suggestion that I would love to follow to grow up here. Have a nice day 💖💝❤️
All I can say that one should be consistent and patient on HIVE to be succesful. I think there is no more an objective thing than this because a quality post might be undervalued and rather an undervalued post might be valued on HIVE. Giving up should be the lastest thing to do here.
A post is singular, whether it gets voted highly or never seen. A consistent following however, that is something that evolves and shifts, grows and retracts, based on the stream of singular posts.
I agree that you don't have to be special but you still have to make yourself stand out. It could be by content, engagement or other different ways. Either way, you need to at least work hard and I don't think things need to be perfect. Sometimes I just like seeing a new person go through the process as you can also learn from their perspective.

Yes! Many people try to stand out by creating drama or having dummyspits - it is not the way - it might get attention, but not a following.
Me too. What I have found is that what most consider is a "long time" is not very long at all.
Don't worry I also get side tracked when writing as the thought process can change along the way and what makes it an original piece lol.

My previous @v4vapp proposal has expired. I have a new one which is running but unfunded right now. I'm still running @v4vapp and all my other services but I may have to increase the 0.8% fee to 2.0% if I continue to be unfunded.
Please consider asking your friends to vote for prop #244 or consider unvoting the HBD stabilizer explained below.
For understandable reasons in the current crypto climate it is harder to get funded by the DHF, I accept this so I'm asking a wider audience for help again. I will also redraft this proposal with more details (coming soon). I'm also looking for other funding sources.
Additionally you can also help with a vote for Brianoflondon's Witness using KeyChain or HiveSigner
If you have used v4v.app I'd really like to hear your feedback, and if you haven't I'd be happy to hear why or whether there are other things you want it to do.
This is a thoughtful piece and I agree with you. Just be yourself and enjoy the process! :)
I think information that shared in content is very important and no doubt little SEO optimization is playing good role but at the end content is king. People stay on good content and because of this specific thing , that content increase in terms of search ranking.

This may be way off track, but you have just made the best argument for why AI will never replace creative human content. Our connection to a piece is really a connection to a person. We're not interested in phonies (copies) because the copy is not connected to a person. Also, the unique quality of creative content is what sets it apart and makes it valuable. If anyone can (and does) make something, we're not interested. A mechanical simulation (call it creation?) may be perfect, but it is not unique in the way a person is unique.
A good thought going forward on Hive, or through life. Be yourself, indeed.
Looking forward to an unpredictable, unknowable and unique 2023 on Hive and everywhere else. ☘️🌻
Reading this post, I felt like it was a direct message to me. As a newbie, this has given me more insights about the platform and how I can set my goals and future expectations.
I'm inspired @tarazpk
Absolutely on point, I have come to realize the importance of building trust by creating original content not imitation of anyone and also try to bring attractive topics to the table then with time progress will come
Thank you for this writeup its very educative
You're special to me <3

I am glad I have taen the time to read this :-). Very intersting and I can easily relate. Reading this makes me realise that we probably share all the same thoughts about content, I would say that I went through the different phases as well. I do see that some uses different mecanism sto get votes (and they do) with content that are rather limited, where you can clearly see that the effort was left at the minimal state...they can easily be identified after a while and my votes do not go in their direction. As for others that I have been following, they have always applied themselves and even on bad posts they get my 100% respect. What I mean is that I agree 100% with your mention of "not being special, but uniquely me". Great article
I'm glad you joined our Splinterlands guild, or I may never have found your writing on Hive. But I am glad that you did because I enjoy your ramblings from your unique PoV.
Now I just need to get in my own groove because I've never really been short of things to say, but maybe I lack enough discipline and determination to follow through on putting the content into the article template.
