What and where

Execute every act of thy life as though it were thy last.

- Marcus Aurelius -

Reading, and laying in my hammock at home, are the answers to the title of this post...and what a truly relaxing Sunday it's been so far.

Due to the complexity of life I'm forced to apply a high operational tempo mostly; I have many things to do and there's only so many hours in the day so I plan, prioritise and schedule things, move from one to the next seamlessly, work as efficiently as possible and apply a great deal of effort to ensuring things are done well. It can be tiring, but that's life I guess.

I'm not always on the go however and know how to relax, to slow down, and take time for myself. It's been one of those weekends and I've thoroughly enjoyed it.

Saturday morning was spent doing small jobs around my house, it's amazing how many things need attending to and I'm not one to shy away from general maintenance; a little effort now can save big problems later. Tidying in the garden, leaf-blower work, sweeping, a little clipping of plants and such things were most of what I did, although I had to do some maintenance on a gutter on my workshop roof and began work on some dry-wall repairs inside due to having a wall-furnace removed. I'll do a post on that someday.

Around lunch time I took a shower and, after eating, spent the rest of the day working on a short fictional story I'm writing, most of which will never make it to the blockchain. It's twenty seven thousand words so far and will end up being fifty thousand I guess. It's coming along nicely.

Sunday morning was a sleep in after a reasonably late night out Saturday at dinner with a couple friends. I had decided Sunday would be my day and I had nothing planned although spent a little time at the hardware store picking up some things I needed and having a general look around. I ran into a mate and his wife there so we grabbed a coffee for an hour or so at the hardware store café then I headed home; my book was calling.

Most of the rest of the day was spent reading my latest book (as pictured) in my hammock with brief trips to the fridge for cold water, the pantry for snacks and the freezer for a popsicle or three. There was a nap or two interspersed between all of that and all-in-all it was a splendid Sunday.

I took some time to get things prepared for dinner tonight, I'm making home-made pizza, and will eat outside under my pergola with my plants and some music...It sounds good right?

Life is complex, but it doesn't always have to be; we can slow it down. It's a choice, and making time for that slow-down, choosing to make it happen, is something that I'm very good at although, admittedly, I should do it more often. I believe everything we do in life should be done well, even if that thing is laying in a hammock and reading a Conn Iggulden book. Life is too short to do anything by halves, *especially when that thing is feeding one's soul with me time.

Anyway, I'm keen to fire up the outside oven for pizzas so will leave it here. I have had a great weekend, am still enjoying it actually, and look forward to a peaceful night in with a movie or two.

How about you? What have you been up to so far this weekend? Feel free to drop a comment and let me know, or even comment with what book you're reading currently. It's your choice, comment if you like, or not; either way, whatever you do or wherever you are, make sure you do your life well!

I can tell you did have a great weekend, even this carried a happy emotion all through. The homemade pizza, my first try was a disaster but I still ate every piece of it.

Hopefully, I can get to see the pizza process in one of your posts.

My weekend was great because I had enough time to rest. We have been battling serious heat, especially at night which has prevented me from having a good night's sleep for about two weeks now but it eventually rained for about an hour which helped me to have a proper sleep so far this weekend.

Saturday was for the presidential election in the country and there was no movement if you aren't voting. I spent the day with my family, I cooked and saw a movie with them as well.

Life is indeed too short for us not to enjoy moments like this, it is good to work but we should take time to always relax and enjoy our personal time.

Yeah man, it was a nice day, relaxing and quite rejuvenating as I've been having long hard weeks these past few. It was nice.

Now I'm waiting for pizza to cook and soon it'll be chow time.

That heat you had sounds bad. We had 42C last week, for most of it, which sucks. I have AC though so can sleep ok. I get grumpy when it gets hot.

The heat is not as bad as that but I have a terrible kind of body that refuses to adapt to heat. It could have been bearable if we had electricity at night.

Running on a power generator is not an option because we now fuel double the price it was about 3 months ago. I can't wait to see the outcome of the pizza.

Yeah, the cost of living is rising exponentially it seems.

I'll not be posting about the pizza I made today, but did one a while back...Here it is.

Just reading how your weekend has been @galenkp , I feel peace 💫 and hunger 😅

It has happened to me that with so many things I do during the week, sometimes I get really tired on the weekend and don't enjoy it as much as I should, even though my husband and I always try to do something special.

I really think moments like that are what we need to get over the hecticness of the week. And if there's pizza 😁 well... I already got hungry again 😅

Your post gave me an idea to write about today. Thank you! 🤗

I believe it to be my responsibility to ensure my commitments are met and that I'm doing so with the utmost of my skill, energy and dedication...I also believe I have a responsibility to myself to find relaxation, reflection, enjoyment, excitement and so on in my life, at all times. I don't live to work, I work to live, to have the means to make choices that enhance my life...or to laze around in my hammock all day.

I don't always need to be doing something, it's small things that combine to make bigger things and those small things (moments) can be easily found; I found some today.

I hope you find some small moments to reverse the effects of your working week.

Thank you! 🤗 You are right, my friend. That's why your phrase says "don't live it by default" (life), right?

It's living with awareness, even our rest.

That's one of my mom's phrases: don't live to work.

Your mom is a smart woman.

Sounds like a nice relaxing day.

You say your short story will never make it to the blockchain. Are you aiming to publish it or will it remain private?

Is that book you were reading good? I love the title and the cover.

My weekend was busy as usual, but I made time to play with the kids, write a little for Hive, enjoy some gin, and relax a bit at the end of the day in a nice long soak. That's one thing Japan has taught me: hot baths are heaven.

Books..books... I don't think I'm going through one myself right now. I'm rereading LotR to the kids at night. I try to read it to them every year. We're in the middle of Fellowship right now. I have a Japanese book on haiku and a book about Zen and haiku by Blyth on my desk, both of which I'm flipping through here and there as I do work.

Glad to hear you had a good weekend, man. Hope this week goes well!

I've written a couple things in the past, the largest a fiction of 440,000+ words and enjoy the process. I might do an ebook of this one I'm working on, I've not decided yet.

The current book I'm reading is really good, the author draws the reader in and there's a lot of detail. I'm enjoying it. I just finished reading LOTR (again) and wanted something different so I picked this one up and haven't been disappointed.

That's great activities you engaged yourself this Sunday. Having CONN IGGULDEN Book reading. Well, I have been also engaged revising some past questions towards my promotion exams on 1st March 2023.

Seems like you've had a productive day too.

I had a productive weekend as well, getting some errands done, spending time to "slow down" and carving out some time for exercise too!

On a side note, you should consider sharing your story! ;)

It sounds like you've had a good weekend. I lift weights and walk most days, but gave myself the weekend off, exercise is important though.

I've don't loads of fuctions here and will do some again, this one I'm writing I might work on publishing as an ebook though.

Looking forward to the ebook!

This sounds like an epic Sunday indeed. An outdoors pizza oven lies on just this side of heaven - you could certainly see it from there! Yum.

You're spot on that a little preventative maintenance can head off major problems before they happen. Sometimes that is a lesson learned the hard way.

How is the book?

Hey mate, I hope you're well.

Yeah, it was a good Sunday, but a distant memory considering it's Monday morning now. 😭

The book is pretty good, he's a good writer and knows how to weave a story, draw one in and make the reader feel a part of it. I'd recommend it.

Definitely doing well! Busy, but well. I might need to look for that book. I am looking for something to read.

Good to hear you're doing well and yes, the book is worth a read.

Mahatma Gandhi then evolved that motto from Marcus Aurelius, into:
"Live every day like it is your last one. Think, love and learn like you are going to live forever".

I try to apply this every day, and it's really really motivating me, also during struggles!

Thanks for such inspiration

Quotes like this are good reminders to make each day count. I hope you've had a good weekend.

I'm so glad you had a good weekend, resting and enjoyed it, you deserve it. You must have all the energy repowered 💪 for the week. Such brilliant ideas come out of those well deserved breaks. A hug 🤗

Yeah, it was good...but now it's Monday and time for work...Sucks really, but I'll make it work.

That's the attitude

You've had a great week, best wishes for next week, have an even better week ahead.

Sir please forgive me if I have done any mistake, I beg your pardon.

Best wishes for your week ahead also.

Thank you, @galenkp sir I apologize to you, please tell me what I'm doing wrong, which is why you are downvoting me?

You're posting rubbish on dtube for the auto-vote. It's your choice to do so, just like it is my choice to downvote as I choose.

The end.

Ok, thank you very much, From now on I will not publish dtube posts.

ohhhhhhh do show off that pizza oven in a post - and tag me in it??? hehehe

My son loves making pizza and we have an indoors oven now that is just fun to use... but I have been thinking about getting him an outdoors one so its really special! hehehe

I so agree with the heart of this post - it took me years to find the way to pause (without feeling guilty).
that was the big thing. I am always on the move - so when I paused, I didn't know how to enjoy that and LIVE in it. Always felt this obligation to be DOING something if i could.

but in the last 3 years or so, I started "writing in breaks" in my week, and month. So when I saw that it was there - I didnt' feel guilty at all - it was something that I had planned for my health and sanity and I had the obligation to do it.

it took a while to break that feeling still of doing something "just for me" and not feeling selfish. hehee I think a lot of stay-at- home moms struggle with that. I m ean - probably a lot of PEOPLE struggle with it. But as a stay-at-home mom... there was no me time LOL my time was always for my family.

but now - my family fully supports ALL the me time that I take - and pushes me to enjoy more hehe (like my recent trip to UK to see Sam Smith and Penderis and Olawalium and Tengolotodo! hehe i wont tag them - but they are all hivers hehe)

so glad that you totally basked in the glory of your Sunday! hehehe ready for Monday to start up now? I hope so!!!heheh

Learning how to stop and take a break, enjoy some personal time, and recharge is important and not always easy, especially for those who tend always to be on the go. Generally, for those types, scheduling it into the calendar/diary is a good way to go; making it an appointment as such. Feeling guilty about taking a moment or two for oneself is unproductive and it's good you've ceased to do that.

Thanks for not tagging those users you mention, I hate it when people tag others for no reason.

I've done posts on that pizza thing before, a couple I think, so I'm not sure a third would be valid.

ah hehehe you've already done it then!!!
perhaps i'll come upon it!!!

yeah - i only tag people when I actually want/need them to join the conversation! hehehe
