I thought I had better write something other than Urban Exploration content, lest you think I now have a one-track mind.
Is HIVE a toxic environment? It can be if you are perceived to do the wrong things. Who makes the rules, who is to say what is right and what is wrong?
For the most part, behaviour is dictated by the larger stakeholders, and I'm not one of those even though you may think so.
The large stakeholders want to sway behaviour; they hold the power and many of them have paid for that power. Is that a bad thing? ALL of them want HIVE to be a success and not everyone is in agreement with what is acceptable.
As a small stakeholder, you may complain that your content is flagged (down-voted), but there is generally a good reason for it.
Over the last few days I have been hassling someone to change their ways, and it seems the penny has dropped.
There have been no flags, but she is acting the drama queen now. I will leave her alone, the job is done for me.
It does get you down, you feel like the villain and sometimes I feel like just selling up and leaving, such is the contempt I get from certain other HIVE people who vote with their cocks instead of the heads, thinking I am bullying.
Last night a four-person farm was exposed, using plagiarised Indonesian stories, and getting regular @curie votes.
The rewards were being systematically cumulated to a single account and shipped out to an exchange. Someone has to do the dirty work otherwise HIVE will turn into STEEM.
Thanks, @nikv for the tipoff, we are grateful for your detective work. All the pending rewards have now been zeroed.
Should someone get rewarded for plagiarism? You tell me. No crying yet, but there is a good justified reason in this case and there will be no argument.
Yesterday I met a new HIVE person and I can tell you this guy can write and well.
@dannewton is a photographer and likes to focus on insects and reptiles. He had the sense to create an alternative account named @earthsea to focus on his music tastes, which are extreme metal and definitely not everyone's cup of tea.
I love @earthsea’s taste in music but I’m a little strange that way.
Check out @dannewton's work; now that is proper photography complete with great diction. To me, this is what HIVE is all about.
If you think short-content has a place then I agree. I would say don’t expect to have it gain big rewards if it is one picture and little dialogue.
@sidwrites is a good person to follow, his content is great for new people, easy to ingest, and well presented. I used to write what he does, but he's better at it than me.
If you put in the work, people will notice and your fame will grow.
I feel like HIVE is perceived to be a horrible complex place to be a part of, to the outsider, or it is just not worth the bother.
Do you think HIVE is a toxic environment? It’s confusing as hell but unfriendly, non-tolerating, and harsh. What do you think?
If you found this article so invigorating that you are now a positively googly-eyed, drooling lunatic with dripping saliva or even if you liked it just a bit, then please upvote, comment, resteem, engage me or all of these things.
But.... but.... I want crack house photos! Gonna scream and cry now!
Thanks for taking my tip seriously :) plagiarists should not be rewarded
I'm in it for the crack house.
Haha.., a derelict crack-house would be exciting I think. I mopped up the pending rewards on that mini-farm you found this morning. One of the @curie guys found the translation within a few minutes, appreciate the tip!
Good job Sherlock! :)
@nikv AMEN
Great job, kudos!
I followed some of that drama and the "why i self-vote" post, but yeah, it's difficult to talk sense with some users.
I guess that's what makes it difficult, people think the difficult part is getting that price up but the markets do their thing, it will take quite a lot for Hive to stand out and peg off from the rest but at the same time it will require very little once things are in motion and there is a clear bull run, even dead coins will pump. We're fighting an inner battle with ourselves but things are getting better, there isn't as much drama now or disconnect between bigger communities and shareholders as it was in the past on the other chain. The hivemind is in agreement more than ever and everyone working harder to grow it.
One thing we know is that no one else is facing these same issues that we face here because almost no one else is as far as we are in the evolution of this technology and it's parameters that we're attempting to finetune fork after fork. Once we've mastered it, and I believe we're close, there will be no stopping us. Of course don't be like me and try and diversify more. :)
I keep trying to entice people on to HIVE and have realized that they will only come when they see big $$$ numbers. That means the token price needs to raise, and frankly, it's falling down little by little against the other crypto's.
Why is it so unpopular and unappealing to investors? The return is fantastic compared to the stock-market for little work.
Our inflation is so different from other cryptos, those either have large pre-mines or everything has had to been bought. Where as here we have so many providing content, etc, and living off of it or have found ways to earn it easily and are not valuing it the same way as others but trading it for something else. Also new name, etc. Dunno, but wouldn't be surprised if Hive lagged behind a bit during the next bull run but that's not the most important thing. What's important is that when and if the next bull run starts we're ready to accept the masses and stand out for our scalability whereas others who may have jumpstarted their pumps and attention won't be able to keep up with it.
Hive, where you gotta work to get the best returns and most of that work is social. Doesn't look like a good deal to many tbh.
I was meaning for curation, it may be unethical to use an auto-voter and wait for the rewards to come in but one can't deny it's a great passive earner.
I don't know about the drama but there is something wrong with the rewards algo.
I spent 6 hours editing my latest gaming video and got some very welcome upvotes but those upvotes are not reflected in the potential reward payout?
I know it's probably just a technical hiccup that will get sorted but it doesn't inspire total confidence in this so called 'bleeding edge' social platform.
Sort out the basics first.
As far as 'good content' creators go. I can only speak of my own experience.
My blogs and videos get 100's of 1,000's of reads and views every day on my own websites and channels but stick them on steem and now hive and they may as well be on a wasteland?
I have met many wonderful people from our platforms but for some reason very little traction or traffic from either of these websites. Don't get me wrong. I do get support but traffic? No.
Maybe this is why no one with a big following wants to come here.
My question is.
Why does content flounder only on the blockchain?
How many page views does hive get per hour/day/week etc?
It's a new site with new content daily it should be ranking high in search or is something else going on?
Do they gain you any reward besides kudos?
The audience is tiny here, and your videos on Call of Duty, though well done won't have much of an audience.
I discussed this with @acidyo once, about getting something on peakd, like twitter. I like the analytics there.
I have been there, done something around 1500 words, and felt, 'it's not enough', then done something at 400 words that get more traction. I don't have answers for you.
I think it'd be great to normalise setting a rewards limit on a post and that rewards limit can only be set lower not higher. Then we might be more welcoming of different types of content. I'm less inclined to zap rewards from a post if I know it can earn only a maximum of a certain amount.
Anybody who wants to reward over the limit amount can directly tip (ie not from the rewards pool).
With appropriate rewards limits, I think we'd become more accepting of things like twitter or Instagram style posts.
Thanks for the shares and promotion of my blogs etc... much appreciated, and because of that I have already found some new people to connect with.
I'll also agree with the mention of the @sidwrites account, as a 'newbie' I have found many of his posts very helpful and informative
You're very welcome mate, I'm happy to see you here and for some quality on the blockchain.
I feel it is similar to Steemit in that "For the most part, behaviour is dictated by the larger stakeholders". I also resent the fact that if you comment on posts on Steemit you get flagged to hell by someone from Hive so I stopped posting on either (although I never really started on Hive. Too hypocritical for me).
I admire your tenacity in sticking with trying to change things and enjoy reading your posts when I pop in.
I would be happy to attend any UK meet-ups if they get going again. It would be fun to hang out with the "old" crowd but, although I think about it from time to time, as long as the "big brother" element continue I won't be posting.
The theft of the coins is still very raw to the ones that had it seized. The flagging is not something I would do, but I have now less than 1 STEEM powered up and have taken it all out.
I have seen you lurking around Splinterlands, you're still here...
There is one in Halifax within a few months, maybe a little far for you.
"The theft of the coins is still very raw to the ones that had it seized." (I can't remenber how to do quotes 😁)
I can totally understand that but "tit for tat" never solved anything - as this whole debacle demonstrates. We all see things from our own perspective and there are plenty of other people who feel "wronged" in the whole thing but for different reasons.
. . . I just deleted what I wrote next for fear of being penalised in some way by those who have a different perspective from mine.
And there's the crux of it I suppose, I feel more censored here than I do on all the main stream platforms. Not that I post on those either! 😁
"I have seen you lurking around Splinterlands, you're still here..."
Yep. I'm still on Splinterlands. I've powered down most of my Steem and am using it to buy cards. There's some great deals at the moment with all the Shananigans going on there too.
"There is one in Halifax within a few months, maybe a little far for you."
Yep. Probably a bit far unless it was part of a bigger trip which, depending of family stuff, could be a possibility.
I won't do anything, and you have no current posts.. why be afraid? You never know who's reading this though and the emotional stress doesn't do you any good.
"you have no current posts.. why be afraid?"
Good point! Excellent demonstration of the irrationality of most fear responses. 😂
I agree VENT away dear
There might be a way around this.. Use https://hive.dlease.io/market If you lease out your Hive, you get a fixed interest rate. That free's you up to post whatever you want, with no fear of losing out on the rewards. Or get a second account for venting?
Funnily enough I did just that last week. 😁 (The leasing on dlease bit.)
I don't want to vent particularly. My response was more of a matey one to @slobberchops. I didn't stop to think this is a public forum and a contentious issue. 😂
I appreciate your suggestions though.😊
What a breath of fresh write this is and these thoughts and more have been in my head all week. Over the last few weeks I have also been helping people ( i wont name the certain someone) to change their ways, and it seems the penny has dropped, but I am the blond bitch and miss know it all, and she is below 300 HP so she knows, well yess and grass is blue. I sometimes have enough from all here , its the same money snake pit as where we came from. I love making my library of life but the ones that pretend to know it all leave me and the discord and dm alone. And when you are here for 2,5 years and with slightly more than 300 HP you are welcome to tell me the rules. First prove you are here for more than the good reason. And the introduceyourself fraude, oh well, i will stop.
Ok vent done, we need rules and when told nicely and calm people should be open to criticism, but thats far fetched to many.
Have a great weekend
We all love you @brittandjosie, thanks for all the help you have given newbies, many of us see it and notice.
You just made my Sunday , because yes it’s nice to hear it’s seen and noticed 😉
Most people don't realise how much scammy stuff goes on here that deprives them of rewards. They also don't appreciate that people spend time seeking it out and dealing with it for little in the way of rewards. I don't want to come across as a bully, but if we don't deal with some of the small cases then it will get much worse. Steem has really gone to shit now as nobody is dealing with it.
There are a core of us who really care about what Hive can be and will work to achieve it. That may conflict with what others see as a 'magic money tree'. So be it. We all get the choice on how we act and it doesn't have to be purely for self-interest. Mind you, we all stand to gain if Hive does grow.
I look at STEEM trending occasionally, but there are now language issues. The anti-abuse crew for the most part left and is now on HIVE, and there is little compared to what it was. We both know that, as before it was non-stop.
Hive trending is mostly English and Steem mostly Korean, so there is a cultural divide there. Just seems that on Steem it is largely through buying votes or the same few accounts self-voting. I think Hive is more diverse, but could still do better. Any good content should have a chance of trending.
I don't see Hive as being Toxic at all. There are toxic people on hive, but not as many as on other sites.
I see a lot of people talking about the complications of Hive and Block Chain Social sites, nothing real complicated about it at all other than what keys to use and when to sue them. Posting commenting and voting are not that complicated at all.
I make a post, I figure out what community my post would fit best in. I publish my post in that community. Sometimes people vote for it, sometimes they don't.
I feel like finding something to occupy my time for a little bit. when I go looking for new things, I sort of semi know what mood I am in, I follow a lot of communities, I have made a lot list, so I just pick the mood and find new stuff to read or look at from old and new users. Pretty simple, people have playlist on youtube, I use the list function on peakd a lot.
I honestly do not see Hive as being unfriendly or toxic, those that claim it is usually have issues of one kind or another.
If we are going to be really honest, I feel there is a fear of saying too much and upsetting people resulting in flags (and loss of pennies). @gillianpearce mentioned it in this post and its a very valid point.
Facebook can be very toxic in the group areas, can you imagine that happening here? It all depends on the size of your wallet, on how vocal you take a stance against someone. It's wrong, but that's how it is.
@master-set and I have some history, he thinks flags should go. I disagree, but I won't flag him for that, some others might. He got a comment vote, just like everyone else who tells me their opinion, that's what I asked for after all?
I think it's a common misconception that Hive has rules, people who make the rules, and that there are people in charge. Hive does not have rules. You can do what you want and I can what I want without getting banned from the platform. I think there is a huge difference between actions having consequences and rules being enforced.
I'm glad you to see you call bullshit on those thinking with their dicks and I 100% agree with you. I actually agree with you so much on this that I got banned from the GEMS community for voicing my opinion.
PS: I heard you're the guy to talk to about obtaining some crack?! ;)
I did see the argument you had on the GEMS forum; there have been things said about these generic communities that give out big votes before if you use their tags. I personally wish the tags would disappear, and those big curation groups could maybe target some of the major focused communities. I still like the idea of communities but it needs to develop more.
I see GEMS all the time in the #introducemyself area, how do they know about GEMS, OCD, BDVOTER if the are real new people? I ignore them if they use those tags, I'm after real newbies that have not been pre-primed about how to get big votes.
crack? never heard of it.. that's' some other guy ;)
What does further development of communities look like to you?
You bring up a very good point that I have not thought about before, but then I also wonder how do they find the #introducemyself tag in the first place? I think it would be a good idea to advertise that tag during the signup process.
I did an intro post over 2 years ago, but I had done around 6 other posts by then. It was something I picked up on.
Hi @slobberchops
Am new on hive but like everything in life one needs to be guided. Thats why I'll always turn to my referrer @bhoa for guidance.
Every community both virtual and physical ones have rules that keep the community sane. So i think hive is no different , it just has its own rules and one has to play by them to ensure the success of the community at large
It's always good to have guide, I wish you well.
Thanks for the mention! What a delight.
You know the answer.
In fact, I also feel there must be some translation scam going on. I figured this when I received translation requests from random people. This is an assumption but maybe people take "English" content and then translate using Google Translate. And then:
Copy. Paste. And publish.
I am thinking to tackle this by having dedicated translators (who add me as beneficiaries) if that makes any sense. Not sure if it is the right thing to do. Been thinking about it since one week. Any thoughts on this?
Edit: Couldn't find you on Twitter but I shared this. Thanks!
I might have mentioned this somewhere before, but I used to write newbie help articles like you, but yours are better presented than mine. It was a translation scam, the @curie guys are well seasoned it picking up on stuff like this if they are pointed out.
I'm #brynrogers on Twitter.
Right. So glad to know you were doing this earlier.
Sometimes I feel I might say what is already said. That is why I try my best to present it differently.
Been really enjoying my time writing. Just fulfils me to know at least one person learned something. Following you on Twitter!
So glad to connect. :)
Its the people that can't take a few downvotes that are toxic. I've had one from a whale that thought I was using a photo that wasn't my own. Took me 5 minutes to prove it was mine and the downvote was removed. I did feel bad at first but soon got over it and when I saw how easy it was to communicate, I became convinced that its a good way to make Hive as good as it can be,
I have made mistakes in the past and retracted flags, it happens.. good to hear it came good for you.
Ye, the drama is real, but yes the penny did fall..
I will also leave her alone :D
That banter of yours was funny last night, had me laughing!
Haha! My default is nice tho! But I can do banter if needed :p
It did trigger something haha :p
Now I want to know who you are talking about...
I don't want to name names, it's easy to figure out with a little digging, would rather put it all to bed!
I guess that's the same goal of the people voting with their cocks. 😂
Hehe.. I had to slip that comment in somewhere, it was necessary to get the point over.
Detectives at work! Respect..it isn't always easy to find because stuff is often hidden so well!
Love it that you are promoting others, I was out of inspiration, so I am taking a look at your suggestion and expand the horizon!
Thanks, I try and find new people all the time and promote them. Some seem to think I'm just a twat.., one person in particular who doesn't want to know or listen, has formulated his opinion and stoically won't listen.
You twat ;)
But a sweet twat then for the least, as you are shamelessly promoting others which is cool (bummer people dont see that)
Staying original, consistent and creative is the only to grow on Hive. No need to plagiarize, write in the area of your strength, engage and grow. Even when the big votes aren't coming, it shouldn't weigh you down or discourage. With time it will come provided you stay consistent.
Amen to that, it takes a lot of perseverance.
A bit inward looking and self-absorbed maybe, like a teenager that doesn't get out and mix with the world enough. There's time to mature, though :)
The less said the better, too much drama for me.
hehe, very @slobberchops response :)
I'm going back to writing about non-HIVE stuff. I get enough comments on UX stuff, if it's HIVE related then it's double.. such is the political beast that it is.
👍 - good plan, we need other stuff to attract new people, rather than this self-referential nonsense. How's Mort these days? :P
Ah yes, Mort. The Chronicles have stalled somewhat. Writing this takes a lot of effort and it is supreme laziness as to why no more have appeared. I find fiction writing very taxing.. but they will come again, sooner or later.
Nobody should reap any sort of reward or recognition for the work of another. That's just rubbish in action.
There's a lot less than before, it was terrible on STEEM. The thing is they know they can get away with it now on STEEM, so that is their target. It frees HIVE of a percentage of the shit we used to have to deal with. All good really.
So. It's time for bigtom's corollary: Every site that has something of value traded for some sort of reward will have cheetahs.
That doesn't mean for a minute that we shouldn't hold everybody to a standard and that it takes 'ordinary folks' to keep the carnage to a minimum. Even though it's unpopular at times we (WE ALL) have to curb the abuse.
I thank you for your effort and diligence.
On a non related note I see that you are now a huge whale with a whole bunch of alt accounts and syncopates. I read it on Hive, it must be true.
A whale, that's technically half a million HIVE. The next stop is Orca II, I'm getting there. We don't see these little target icons anymore, I kind of miss them. They were part of busy.org. Wonder if peakd could resurrect them.
But I read in that post that you were a huge whale attacking a poor little defenseless Hiver. I thought congratulations were in order, now I'm crushed. Oh, the humanity :)
Plagiarism should never be rewarded. Period. Very simple😊
Original quality content which people can relate to and feel a genuine person putting passion into what they do should be rewarded. Quality. Not quantity. Social media needs more of that.
Same here.
Ignore the drama focus on building
I enjoy #hive to the point I am all in.
Glad that you take your time to value others.
#Hive is not free and there is limit to create balance and check.
Hivers need to understand we are all in this
together, the minute you do not get it, you messed it up
for everyone.
Got some more of that crack house photos tho?
I would love to do one, even maybe travel to the capital? Let me know if you see one while idly walking down the street?
Sorry, all the crack houses in my neighbourhood are fully occupied :)
I don't know actually... downvotes can hurt though and I hope HIVE thrives not just for the token price and all...it has potential.
If it were not for HIVE which was before Steem, I would not have become that writter I am today.
It's sad that people want to exploit for money and bully others etc... I hope I never encounter such ugly instances which would actually reduce my experience in HIVE...also now I use HIVE to get some earners, along with other writing platforms, because I have no other work currently.
But it's provide me the oppurtunity to become a full time crypto person and it will help in the long run.
A politician once said that dissent is the basis of all democracy. And HIVE is a democratic system, which means that not everyone thinks the same.
As for whoever holds power, there are contrasting opinions: there are those who say that power in the hands of a few guarantees uniformity and balance, and there are others who say they prefer anarchy over monopolistic concentration of power.
Finally there is something for everyone.
The subject deserves to be debated @slobberchops.
Regards.
You're right there!
When we finish reading this post our eyes shed tears unknowingly .. I think in the future humanity will be completely extinct, This post was used to assess my mental strength.. thanks Mr. Slobberchops
I don't think hive is a toxic place at all. All that hive requires mainly is ability to genuinely create content for content creators. However for those who are not content creators, ability to form relationships and consume content. This takes a lot of hard work and consistency.
In all hive is a place for serious minds.
Just yesterday I was corrected by @brittandjosie concerning tag usage. This is how a structured system ought to be..
That was not concerning tag USAGE but ABUSE of the tags, and indeed i see that a lot and as an onboarders you say you are you especially need to do that by the rules, when several posts using the #introduceyourself tag. That is not a good thing to do. That tag is to be used only once for your real introductory post, then not used again. Doing so is considered "tag abuse" and will get you into other trouble.
I real life you also only introduce yourself once and not over and over again
Like the "real life" example. But I got another logic from the guy who abused the introduceyourself section. You breathe every second, so we can't you use introduceyourself every time?
I said OKAY.
And then he got downvoted.
Yes it’s ok to use it but be a man and decline all your rewards but all that do are there because the tag makes money.
And that downvote yess in some situations the best thing next to MUTE
Always tough to know the "intention" most people operate with.
And sigh. I am way too nice to downvote and mute.
Goooood! :)
I do agree there needs to be a section of HIVE where short content is not frowned upon. The fact that Tik Tok, Instagram, VSCO, and other similar platforms are so popular points to the fact that people don't want to have to read an essay. The masses who we want to come to HIVE (within reason) are looking for something familiar. I still think there has a to be standards though, and plagiarism never has a place here.
I'll be sure to check these accounts out, always looking for new authors.
Toxic.
But it's easy to change - just exclude downvotes
I respect your opinion but have to disagree. What would become of the farm I mentioned if there were no downvotes? They would reap the rewards of someone else's hard work.
This is a fear. But unrational one.
I can post Mona Lisa and tell that it's my creation. But how much will I gain? Even if no censoring-nazis with fat ugly downvotes are there.
Free speech CAN do SOME harm. And censors is here to "protect" you from a "bad" information. But free speech do much more good tan harm. Real harm is censure, not a lack of it.
Clueless as the clueless justifies.
Check out this profile's history before you spew that nonsense.
https://peakd.com/@haejin/
Try practicing your philosophy with 1.5M HP and you'll see how quickly things get bad.
You are not for free speech. You are for selfish speech.
free speech can be of any type. Selfish, angry, wrong, silly, disgusting, false. If some hypocritical power-crazed type like you starts to brand some forms of speech as inappropriate - it's not a free spech.
I live in Russia, and know who talks just like you? Mr. Putin. He can trow you in jail for a "selfish speech". I hate it to the bottom of my heart. It's a blessing that you can only do some downvotes to silence your enemies, that you just CAN'T silence people with a violence. Power corrupts. You and ones like you are corrupted by power of your downvotes.
It will be better to not seduce anyone with power to attack fellow humans. Downvotes are cancer just like self proclaimed enforcers, censors, custodians and guardians. If you don't like what other people say - you can argue, you can disagree or enlight. But you want to do harm instead, to use brute force. And by this you confess in having no vaild argumets, all you have is a pointy stick to poke people in submission.
I will oppose your selfishness rewards on your own comments to the very end. Only those with something to hide upvote their obscure comments at 100% near payout.
Your comparison to Putin is laughable, at best. It shows how little you know about free speech, etc. No matter how many downvotes you receive on this platform, your speech is not erased.
Money is a form of free speech:
Putin controls my rubles too. And I go to BTC to get free. Even to HIVE. But HIVE can't survive if it not a pro-free speech. If I whant a controlled media I can go to Facebook or Reddit why I need HIVE if it's controlled by likes of you? People make HIVE to flee from Justine Sun's tyranny. Someday they will flee from you too and than you can censore yourself as much as you please. Alone.
The CORE principle of crypto is neutrality. No one can interfere with how you are using YOUR money e.g. speech.
You can't delete my posts, yes. But you can do them invisible. "it's there! No one can't find or see but it's there! It's not censoring!" What kind of a moron can believe such a puny excuse? You just use power to forcefully shut my mouth.
