Re:Quoted
"People hit 'like' buttons all day. They spend hours writing comments under articles and videos. Thousands of people daily donate to content creators. They buy subscriptions. Always spending money. Hive offers them a better deal."

"She looked all frowny, like a dowdy girl stalking Justin Bieber on Instagram."
@meesterboom quoted from The Burglar's door

"I deny your negativity, cast it aside to fall away forgotten, trodden underfoot, left to die alone and lonely, unwanted and unloved."

Unfortunately, I am not a developer and hold no coding skills, but I do have ideas from time to time that I think might make decent applications for the community - so, I will put some of them out into the space to see if anyone wants to have a go at building them.
The basic idea of Re:Quoted
Re:Quoted is an interface where users are able to submit quotes from authors they like, the funny one liners, the profound perspectives and the helpful words that support in a time of need - whatever it is that people find important enough to extract and save for others to benefit from.
There are several ways to do this and I am unsure as to what is best, but there has to be some accountability and checks in place to prevent misquoting and have a papertrail to context.
A user can submit through a sign-in interface by filling in a form
** "Quote" - Name - Post/comment link - Tags
This would mean that the submission is tracked (it can appear as "submitted by") and the quote itself can automatically be checked for accuracy against the original text, similarly to how a check for plagiarism works. It could also be that a quote or some part of a quote can only be submitted once.A user could submit the quote directly from the post
** The quote would be cut and past into the comment section and have a ! tag such as !Requoted and the information of author, post title and link and submitter can be extracted. An interface integration
** An interface like @peakd could integrate a "quote me" button of some kind that generates the form with prefills or automatically adds necessary information for submission. This makes it easy and painless for users by lowering the bar by reducing manual work. This would also mean that a user wouldn't need to have signed into Re:Quoted directly, they can just use the interface posting key. The interface could then add a page to the quotes or a search bar that can then find and then insert a quote into a post.
There could be rewards for creator/submission
For example,
- a beneficiary set where people can vote on the quotes and a portion goes to the author and the submitter.
- a regular post could be generated where the highest rated quotes appear and the payout gets split between them.
There can be searchable content tags
- Tags could be added manually to add context and group
- The full text can also generate a set of tags for keyword searches
This allows for improved grouping and UX and could be supported by popular categories for example.
Shareability
These can be shared out directly from the interface to other social media platforms, like Twitter and Facebook with links included to their author and source on Hive platforms. With attractive designs, these could be useful for sharing further through networks.
Discussion
There could be a comments section with a forum format where people are able to discuss the quote or the post it links to in a more specific manner, independent of the author themselves. It would also be a source for content inspiration and the identification of community relevant topic trends.
Reasons for Re:Quoted?
- A repository of consumable short-form content that leads to the long-form sources
- The discovery of contributors
- Clickable links that feed back directly to Hive from wherever they are shared
- Content that could be found useful and used externally from Hive
- A resource for internal collaboration where people use Hive sources of information easily
- A place to build quotable content around consistent contributors
- A place to create links to older content while opening a new payout window
- A potential earning point for consumers
- It encourages contribution of consumable content and better comments
- Proliferation of Hive links throughout the internet as gateways to Hive
- Developing "evergreen" content that can be revisited endlessly
- It could be administrated and useless and abusive submissions delisted and accounts blacklisted
There has been a push for short-form content and this could find a happy medium where one post can provide both short and long for context. It also allows for the many "one-liners" that appear daily on Hive to be collected together and have a home and a space for wider consumption.
I think it would be pretty cool to see Hiveans quoted around the internet in a way that looks professional and inviting for a viewer to click a link back in, to discover more about the content, the author and Hive. It also means that some of the leg work of advertising is made more user friendly and natural by coming into line with other shareable content forms.
This is just thoughts on this, so comments on strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats are welcome. If you are interested, please share it out also, as it might fall into the eyes of someone who wants to develop the idea into a working product, even an MVP would be nice to build from.

I am going to tag @themarkymark as you probably have some ideas around this and also @emrebeyler, as I think some of the code for AnonRamblings could be leveraged for this.
Great idea, most of my vocabulary is made up from movie quotes.
Can you guess what tv show this quote is from?
“Someone needs to protect the family from the man who is protecting the family”
I never watched it, but I am going to go with The Sopranos
I never watched that either, the quote is from Breaking Bad.
Cool idea, something similar in that direction, is the crossposting feature of @peakd, but perhaps peakd could implement that as well.
Yep or at least, there is bits of that code that could be used.
I believe this to be a good idea , as some people have said it is good for those that cannot write lengthy posts of their own
I see it as a great Niche, eg : like books of quotes etc, It would give the opportunity for some to take on daily quotes to live by etc :)
Yep and learn by daily. There is a wealth of experience here and perhaps a crumbtrail of quotes leading to it would aid a lot of people.
Hi @tarazkp
I'm interested in developing this idea. I have been thinking about a quotes only interface for over a year now :) Just didn't have a complete implementation thought up.
I used to share my own quotes on then Steem. You can see them on my profile (if you scroll way back).
Most of my quotes have spread all over the internet, mostly because they were on Goodreads.
https://www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/5086444.Innocent_Mwatsikesimbe
A lot of third-party sites syndicate quotes from Goodreads so a quotes interface on Hive might generate a lot of traffic.
This is what I think too. It could be used internally for many thing - externally to create link backs.
I wish I was a developer, but I hope you can get something out for this :)
My skillset allows me to create the back-end for the app. Database, blockchain interactions, custom_json ops... sort of like Hivemind does. I will need to collaborate with a front-end developer who can make the website.
Nothing stopping me from working on some back-end designs right now though :)
Sounds good to me, and probably not a huge development effort.
I like the idea of re-surfacing funny/useful comments so the original authors profile is lifted, and think a beneficiary is a good plan.
I think the resurfacing of comments would be great and perhaps it would inspire some "quotable" comments to be written :) I like the idea of accountability for this as well as the checks on at least the quote so that it doesn't misrepresent. Context matters a lot and I am sure there would be those who purposely use things out of context - but, that is the internet.
:D
"Nice post deer"
A timeless lesson for sure!
I'm a dumb shit so can't help with any dev-ideas...But I'm smart enough to know this is a good idea. I hope someone picks up on it.
I think it would be quite a useful bridge between content as well as creators and consumers. Might also be a bit of fun :)
I agree with both. I'be been reading a lot of work in the last few days from people I have never before seen and have been amazed at some of the thoughts put into words...Certainly some are quote-worthy. I think it would be a good concept.
Do you think that if you did find some quotable content, you would requote (if easy enough) ?
Perhaps a reference to the Re:Quote could be added to the post for the author to see or, the quote generated will create a notification to say that they have been Re:Quoted.
For sure...It's no different to spamming a meme on FB, just more intelligent.
It could be a quick-fire way for the message to get spread, the message in the quote, is cool that it's a regular joe (or jill) who has written it and that it draws attention to them, and probably hive. A quote factory of regular everyday fuckers like us. What better?
This is what I think is quite unique about hive in general, normal people creating some great content. I think more people should get involved in some way and perhaps this is one of the easiest gateways for involvement.
Yes, get people talking about this quote or that. Offering perspective...It's easier to offer one's perspective on a quote from a knucklehead like galenkp than it is to try and mix it with a quote from Aristotle for instance. There are some remarkable thinkers here, and whist I don't like the I'm the smartest person in the room types (they often are not) I think there is a vast wealth of wisdom, thought, understanding and more importantly, questions, hidden around the chain. It would be nice to see them exposed in an easy and digestible manner. Maybe this is it?
"How are you two related with each other? given that 'kp' letters on your username."
This could be my input for this idea of yours @tarazkp, include funny questions :D
We are brothers.
I think it could genuinely be the birth of something sexy!!
Let's see if there are any takers :)
You have a way about you, I think they will be lining up to
knock you downoffer help!It is the way I walk in heels that makes the difference. Hip swing.
I love 'the few times' when I see you let your hidden weird sense of humor shamelessly escape without muzzle in the wild. Hahahaha
Without any kind of muzzle would be a real problem
Damn this sounds pretty awesome. I know of some quotes that I would like to keep thinking back and as you mention this is a way for us to reference externally something that was written here in chain. Since it’s already done on here it doesn’t sound like a huge amount of work but my coding skills are pretty noob so I can’t be a great judge lol I hope I see an update or response from the great developers on here about this!
Oh my god I love this!!! Great idea. I see SUCH quotable content all the time - a shame it goes to waste.
You could even do a random HIVE quote generater, where submitted quotes could be randomly generated on an (original HIVE) image by request! Damn, I wish I had the coding skills!!!!
or better (@galenkp) - also @abh12345 @inertia - gosh I'd love to do this!
Love it!
I'm going to be famous. I've always fancied myself as a somewhat more dense Galileo Galilee. Lol.
This is cool Riv!
The random generator is a great idea and I think it would also be pretty cool to have them appear throughout interfaces in "Quotes from the Day" kinds of things :)
Very pretty :D
Not much of the work though, if anyone knows Python then can take @anonramblings code and start creating the application.
yeah, I don't think it should be that hard to create, but it is definitely not my area. You know Python?
I don't know Python, I know Node.js and Asp.Net. Though we have quite a few folks in development community who knows python
Might be a nice collaborative effort
I like it. I mean really like it. It really could provide an interface between Hive and the general public.
While I was reading the first time I wondered about the possibility of breaking into the 'evergreen' realm then saw this:
You and I both know that there are a huge number of posts that deserve to be re seen and re considered. Viola, a pathway. I can think of half a dozen right this instant without looking at all.
I haven't looked at the comments, my hope is that one of the serious devs responds with 'we can do that'.
Big time idea. One of my mentors used to say "Ideas are a dime a dozen. Good ideas are worth maybe a dime each. Actionable ideas that can change the landscape are priceless." I think maybe you've hit the actionable category.
I am hoping too, as I don't think it is actually too much work and a lot of it can be recycled code.
My goal was to make it as easy as possible for someone to get started on it and I think the comments that are coming in will add even more to flesh it out further, other than the code itself :)
Oh nice idea!
Cheers Mary :)
Cheeers 😊😁
Cool idea !!! I think your quotes will be the most :)
My quotes might be too long :D
Super good idea. I see it as a way to honor a person's brilliance and beauty, celebrating the gems of the written word. 💎🌟
For sure. It would be quite flattering, which i thinki would also aid in retention, as well as give those submitting a potential income
Yeah, someone said a "quote factory" cool idea.
Would be nice to have a large mass of Hive source quotes filtering around the platforms :)
Yep! A good idea as I also love my one liners :)
I think this is a great idea, giving more exposure to those memorable comments! I like the idea of having something along the line of the command such as !Requoted that would be quick and simple.
Yep, or an interface integration. I am hoping that there will be more interface tools for consumers :)
Meme source file for words, just find, make or bake a picture to go with the quote. Meme's seem to travel well across platforms.
Yeah they do, and it would be nice to be able to generate a few sourced from Hive :)
Nice idea, that will give those who are not great at lengthy blog making get thier voice also heard in the hive space, great thoughts
Perhaps the biggest problem is exercising adequate control because the deformation of the language is, in many cases, evident @tarazkp.
It is important that you add something of value to the content and not just a tool to earn money
okay?
