Not Gonna Lie About Rhythm

in Musicforlife 🎶15 hours ago

Derpderp dumb-fuck says they just here to be chil and relaxed and enjoying playing music. I sympathize and say, “No! Play your instrument as well as I play mine!” Or I say, “No! Stop getting lost and help these horn players solo. It’s our job.

The elephant in the room… rampant low rhythmic integrity.

I learned the things I know, and I was granted the privilege of this education because I was always open to learning. I never said the words, “I already know…” even when I knew. Learning is a practice. (Maybe instead of commenting on a drummer’s lack of skill, I should be focusing on their inability to learn… i’m also tired of my music rants.)

I had a text conversation with the drummer.

Look, he started it…

Poke the dragon?

Exploring rhythms of various cultures doesn’t necessarily make your groove/feel/rhythmic integrity better. It’s a great medium, but high rhythmic integrity and awareness prevails in all cultures musics.

The image above, and my response contain information that some people take years to discover. Methods mentioned in my reply are worth lots of money. I’m sharing gold with this guy. I’m grateful to have the privilege of learning this information. I’m also grateful to be in a long-term situation where I got a chance to explore and implement.

By the way, I’m sharing this information with a person who has labeled me in weird ways, accused me of strange things publicly, and has even slightly cock-blocked me. Dude actually jumped in with his business card while I was in mid conversation with a pretty lady. The same dude you hear in the videos receives information with the following type of reply, “Yeah, I already know because…” and a tangent begins. My honest reply is the most compassionate path.

Poke the dragon and then ask the dragon for favors?

That’s like asking to have your village burned. #StupidMusician

Video Evidence

This video was mid-production when the conversation began:

I don’t really like making these posts and ranting about things. I’m trying to turn this into a teaching situation so that I can justify rewards. I seek rewards for these unsavory experiences to maintain motivation and seek healthy compensation. I need to have video footage that serves me somehow somewhere. If I were surrounding myself with better musicians, my videos will be completely different. I guess I know what to work on.

The video is private. Only a person with links or access to our little community can view the videos.

Musicians need to be a little humble and accept criticism. I know the details of timing are hard to get right. Feeling the rhythm is important and some will hear details that others won't. I'm very conscious of my limitations as a drummer.

Then there's people like Prince.

Rock on!
