Hive Book Club Proudly Announces its 4th year Anniversary!
I'd like to thank everyone who has been with me growing the community from the ground up since February 2020 to now February 2025 from 0 subscriber to over 4600 subscribers from all over the world.
Hive book club was a space that I built because my love to literature and actually mirrors the physical location that my family built, a small library in the village of Central Java that attempts to increase literacy among its residents.
At the time, I was also working in similar projects increasing literacy in rural areas and helped established some local libraries. The thing is, I was that 23 years old ambitious kid who thought this place could be something in the future.
Long story short, here we are reaching the 4th year of this community existence and I've been seeing a glimpse of hope. Reading gets its revival and the future isn't so bleak.

That is to say, I've been pretty much inspired lately as I also just go out of a very dark place.
As much as this place had its potential, at one point, it wasn't something that I saw so I was just letting it out run itself and continuing to provide a space for book lovers to share their insights, reviews and recommendation.
![macbrand.png](https://images.hive.blog/768x0/https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/macchiata/23sweD6vycN7cwFdHaLE8Ze8ayocMSDoWEAgUZqFJJ9kCXshFpN3tDPaDhXgZr3fLV5ZQ.png)
This space has its ups and downs too. There were moments when my personal life gets the best of me and this place gets pretty much abandoned. I am sure some of you who are here long enough remembered the days when I pretty much gave away subscription to grammarly or scribd.
If I can boast a little, Hive book club regularly host giveaway, contest that its prize aren't small and even these days we randomly tip our contributors weekly.
I do have some future ideas in mind so that this space finally gets its own actual home, an interface that we all can use and I've been waiting for the day to come. So, now that I am getting out of the hole I dug for myself, that is something that can be worked on.
![macbrand.png](https://images.hive.blog/768x0/https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/macchiata/23sweD6vycN7cwFdHaLE8Ze8ayocMSDoWEAgUZqFJJ9kCXshFpN3tDPaDhXgZr3fLV5ZQ.png)
To celebrate our 4th anniversary, I'd like to organize a small contest. It's 30 Hive giveaway for 2 winners with this simple prompt :
✅ Share your feedback about HIVE book club in this comment section
✅ Subscribe if you haven't (to be legible for the prize draw)
✅Tag 3 friends
The winners will be announced 13 February with one winner gets 20 hive for the most thoughtful feedback and reviews for us and 10 hive for the prize drawn randomly.
Good luck & I am looking forward to hear your constructive feedback to make this space better.

4 years already... That's so awesome.
I joined some time last year so I've been here for a quarter of the time...
And in that quarter I've seen just how amazing this space is😍✨
I'm an avid reader, amongst other things and a space on hive where I can share, write and see other examples of what I like always gives me joy.
This community is a lovely place, I love the comments on my posts on it and whenever I'm chanced to come see what people are writing here I always see some wonderful stories and books explained in posts that I just can't resist leaving a comment in.
This is a community that cuts across countries, genders, themes and genres.
It's lovely and I'm so proud to be a part of it✨
Sadly all the people I could invite to be a part are already subscribers to the community, yet I'mma tag em anyway 😂😂😂
@omokhafue @jhymie @agmoore
First of all, thank you for being a part of us. We'd be cleaning up some of its management and create more seamless maintenance. At the moment it's only myself, we used to have quite a few members helping me around. I am sure it will be changed soon since I'd like to see more activities than what I am currently seeing.
I personally try to create a welcoming space for everyone and I hope continue being the place wher readers, authors and everyone who loves literature and written words will have its place.
You can tag anyone, the more the merrier. We'd be happy to welcome new subscriber to this community as well 😊
Heh. As soon as somebody will start to water the soil with upvotes here, a lot of
farmersplants will come running here from other places where they receive less food, have no doubts about it. This is one of empirical Hive laws, confirmed many times. 😕I'm the Jhymi without an e. You keep mixing it up and tagging someone else, lol.
When I saw it, I just knew Seki meant to tag you.😂
I actually do know the jhymi with an e...
Although seems she isn't active anymore...
Or rather doesn't check her notifications...
⭐️🌈
Uhmmm....where do I even start. I remember when I first joined the chain and I was super active, trying to find my footing. And then a close friend of mine at the time who I'd rant for hours on end about the books I read told me. "Do you know there's a place here on Hive that you can do all your book rants and what's more, you'll see like-minded people who would rant with you?"
And so, I found this place and it quite literally became my home. The people I've connected with because of the community who have become my friends off the chain, the diverse books that have become the most beautiful pieces I'd ever read, the revolution of my mind just being here. Seeing a place which is quite literally, "I love books, you love books. Come let's talk about it together," has to be one of the most amazing aspects of being here.
The Hive Recap for 2024 had Hive Bookclub as the community I posted into the most, and I smiled at how apt that was. 4 years of being the safe space of Bibliophiles like me is no easy feat.
I look forward to seeing all the growth within our community. The Monday book prompt reflections is only the beginning of great things. Soon, we'd have meets and platforms where we choose a book and after a week, we all talk about it in a voice channel and give our different voices/perspectives on how it impacted us. The sky is only our beginning. Happy 4th Anniversary, Hive Bookclub, and to all the amazing people, like me, who takes this community as their home.❤️❤️
@oluchi31, @teknon, @jessuses1381. Let's celebrate together.🫶🏾
Oh, this feels so good to read. Thanks for the tag Tess.
That's so great to see Hive book club is included in your top community in your yearly review. I am trying to read at least once a week these days but sometimes life gets the best of me. I hope that the book prompt monday was quite successful in actually getting people to read and interact within the community.
Once again, thank you for being a valued member of our community.
I was blessed with the freedom from criticism that day. It's not everytime you post about a novel you love on Instagram and reddit or even twitter that you get sweet compliments and lovely comments. Some people are just horrible and would criticize everything you read and it hurts. This community made me comfortable about sharing my thoughts on books,the kind of books I read. I could remember one day,I mistakenly opened up to someone about some of the type of books in my library and she said, "Ew, that's basically porn" with a cringe on her face and disgust laced in her tone. I didn't get mad because that's how it has always been with majority of the public. They don't even wait till you finish emphasizing or talking about the book,the just jump straight to conclusions. Here,I saw and met people who read what I read,delighted in what I delighted in and squirmed when I did. Although virtually,I hope for it to be physically some day. It is/was beautiful to be honest. And even though,at some point,I was in a book slump phase,I didn't feel left out because of the wonderful book content that I saw here every single day.Funny thing about time is,we think it's slow paced and fast paced but we truly don't know how it works to be honest. Four years is huge and I just want to say Happy Anniversary @hivebookclub lub. I can still remember the evening I stumbled upon this community. It was a very memorable one,I spent the rest of the day reading articles and reviews of different books,comics.
I love to read,I don't know what my life would look like if I didn't pick that book up that rainy evening in 2016. I have said this and I will say this again; People who don't read are missing a lot. A whole lot. It might seem like all fun and games but reading grows is. I have learnt multiple things in books that my lecturers haven't even dreamed to start teaching me. I have passed my exams cause of a particular thing, situation or theory I read from a random novel. It's crazy for real. My vocabulary,the kind of words I use,the way I interact,it improved and it's better cause I read. I won't trade it for anything in the world. To be able to read and enjoy it.
So I'm genuinely grateful for here. This beautiful community that revolves around anything readable. Such a beautiful existence. Thankyou for everything. Happy Anniversary once again. To many many more beautiful years ahead;)❤️
@oluchi31 @deraaa @jessuses1381
That is the same vibe that I personally get from book community all around. I despise it because I believe people should be able to read whatever they want, criticize and reflect to it whatever they want. I am honestly surprised that even within literary major, they also want to make you see the work through their lens. I always support it when people are able to think because it's not easy to think rather than just trying to conform into the lens that you're supposed to. Elitism doesn't have its place in Hive book club and it never will be.
Thank you so much for your appreciative word to us and I hope I can grow this community more.
Glad to hear that you is coming out of your dark dark space, Mac.
This gives a light why it felt a bit quiet here right?
Not sure if I understood this correctly. Hive is a house for all communities, including the Book Club as well, isnt it so?
Of course I am happy to have it in address list where-to-send my blogs, and subscribed it long ago (apparently immediately as I discovered it). And I'm happy to spread the word; alerting @taliakerch, @olgavita, @koto-art, @acesontop on this.
As for suggestions... I am not too creative thinker when it comes to organizing such outgoing social activities. I'd rather go with CCC's example (collect 4-5 most intresting blogs of the week > promote them via community post > share rewards), and dilute this routine from time to time (monthly?..) with thematic challenges. All depends on moderator / amount of free time / dedication / subscribers activity... 😎
I suspect that I won't be able to surprise you, as a resident of Java, with either a cabinet made of precious mahogany or an exquisite coffee color scheme, but I personally swallow such things like a hungry fish swallows a tasty worm - simply because of deprivation. All these things are missing in our lives. Cheap Pine wood goes everywhere at best, instead of mahogany, or disgusting plastic at worst ... This was a lyrical introduction. 🙃 I'm simply sharing the best thing I recently had.
See, I came across a guide to the old (university, of course) libraries of St. Petersburg. Only they were able to survive the horrors of the 20th century and somehow preserve the remains of former luxury, the old environment. What is more important - that guide gives the keys on how one may (try to) get access to these libraries. Only one of them - Theatrical - is public, six others are closed from the random visitors. So, if I will have success, in 2025 I'll make an amazing post about the book treasures of my city ... but give no guarantee. Meanwhile, a little teaser - preview of Theatrical library hall.
I'll get back to you again but I am working on hive book club to have its own interface, something like exclusively for book connected to HIVE
Ok looking forward to see what it will be. But I remember the simplest and minimalist UI is the better. (well, I doesnt mean black Times text set on white paper haha, dont get me wrong). 🐈🙏🙏
Even though i just reading news lately.
But, i think reading book is still our responsibillity to our brain.
Thats why sometimes reading people sharing the book and the synopsis of the book or the review will give me more insight and thanks for that so i dont need to spend more money to buy books that i dont like to read.
Thats why this community still need to be exist!!!
Keep it up @macchiata Tagging @dewabrata @ramadhanight @ekavieka
😄 I am glad you think so. The truth is, reading was/is still a dying hobby. I got inspired by the event since I saw some of them are from book club community that are relatively new. I had this space for so long and I am starting to see more communities popping up trying to foster reading habit.
At the same time, on my way back inside the train, I also saw a young girl reading from inside the train and just happily sitting on the train floor. She looks so immersed in her novels that I was thinking about this space all over again. Hence, I am sure a lot of new people are here and for those who didn't know about this community would know now.
Wow happy birthday Hive book club, hopefully this club can grow more and more, I really like the reviews of the people here, hopefully I can write more here too. 😀
Suggestions for Hive book club can be held webinar sessions discussing books, can be with internal members or can be together with the author, it will definitely be very exciting.
The feedback can be in the forms of reviews related to the session written here, cheers! 😄
@macchiata @arveno @happyphoenix
We used to have discord session but as we're a global community, timing has always been a problem. We often had more audience when it's conducted at 3 AM rather than at 9-10PM GMT +7
First of all, I would like to say Happy 4th Anniversary to the book club, and I am grateful that this community exists here! So happy to meet people who love reading and find meaning in life through books. I think what this platform lacks is the engagement in the comments, like the reviews and feedback of other people reading the similar book. Then we can also make a book challenge reading; instead of reading the same genre, let's try a different one we are not familiar with. That would be fun! I wish all the best for this community and for all of us book lovers! Can you share as well your thoughts?
@stellappreciates @miingjazz @jmjourneys
We actually have weekly monday prompt where we challenge our readers to explore a book/topic for our prompt. It has been going on since around last year and it's always every Monday. Perhaps, we need to streamline that idea again and created a tag around it so more people will be aware of its existence.
Massive growth. Cheers!
Nice to have an active corner that appreciates literature and people sharing wholesome content.
I like that's it's called a club, and perhaps it'll be more like that with sessions where people could actually interact live. But I understand that can be tough to pull with the different timezones and all. Something's better than nothing anyway, so maybe or maybe not. It's extra work, though, I know. Lol.
Anyway, contests are something. I'm thinking, "Share with us the favourite pieces of content you've consumed in the Hive Book Club community in the last month (other than yours, lol) and your thoughts on them - reviews, recommendations, and whatnot. Maybe that can foster more community spirit or engagement or something. More work, I know... Oh well, just my thoughts. T for fenks.
Summoning my Jackie Chan reader frens...
@deraaa @b0s @jhymi
We used to organize those discord session but timezone has always been a problem. We also tried all the initiatives people has mentioned in the comment section. The thing is that it all just need a little bit revival as there are more posters compared to before and the quality has gone up a bit too. So, we're looking forward to actually see those initiatives being revived again.
Happy 4th Year anniversary to @hivebookclub
It is the first time I heard about this community and I am surprised that there is an established community for literature enthusiasts. I am looking forward to read on reviews on books, movies, series and more. I think this community would continue to grow strong as years past by.
@tortangkahoy @lumpiadobo @longganisan
First things first, happy 4th Anniversary to our amazing book club community!
I'm honored to have been a part of this incredible group for the past two years now I think. It’s one of the best communities on here where I can express my undying love and disappointments about books I’ve read. I found this community on my own when I was checking out communities and I’m glad I found it because it inspired me to read more. I also admire the love, support, and passion for reading that we share here. It’s truly special.
I also want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Mac for being a founder and also an administrator and for working tirelessly to keep this community thriving although it’s not been easy breezy. Your dedication and enthusiasm is really contagious.
And to my fellow book lovers, thank you for the thought-provoking reviews you shared and for the engagements too, the recommendations and the camaraderie. You've introduced me to new authors, genres, and perspectives and I'm forever grateful.💕
Happy birthday to your community, an amazing community, it's a source of pride for me as a beginner and I don't understand anything about this platform to be able to join this amazing community, yes... even though it's a little late, this will be a good start for me personally to be able to find this community, have a nice day 🤗🤗🤗
My memories are flawed, and I don't recall if anyone invited me to Hive Book Club. I'm pretty sure I was exploring, as I always do, or maybe I stumbled upon a post that led me here. Somehow, I landed in this community, and subscribing to it has been one of the best decisions I've made on Hive.
It's been over two years since I joined the Hive Book Club community. I've found a home here - a safe space where I can discuss books without feeling like a nerd. I can freely share my thoughts on literature, from character development and dialogue to plot and other genres. I can even gush about my love for old, traditional books with worn, dog-eared pages, and feel accepted. That's how safe and welcome I feel in this community I'm proud to call home.
Alright, let's get down to it… There's a misconception about our community. Many people think it's solely a place for novel reviews. I've had a few people reach out to me on Discord to ask if they could discuss other types of books, like financial ones. I think we can address this through our weekly contests. Perhaps we could have two contests a week: one for book reviews and another for topics surrounding books. For example, topics like: Do you prefer e-books or physical books? How do you get out of a reading slump? I believe there's a way we can work around this.
Community engagement is another area for improvement. A few months ago, my friends and I made an effort to engage with the community by commenting on at least five posts per day. However, when I resumed school, assignments and classes took up most of my time. Now that I'm on break, I plan to get back to that routine. To boost community engagement, how about we make it a rule that for every entry, members should comment on at least two previous posts? A moderator could also comment on new members' posts, reminding them of this rule.
I understand that managing a Discord server can be challenging, but I believe we can make it work. It is important to find a time and day that suits the majority of our members. It would be wonderful for book lovers to come together. We book lovers, page turners, and avid readers - who sometimes go days without reading, only to feel the sudden urge to dive back in. We book lovers who sometimes consume many pages in one sitting…coming together in one space to discuss would surely be nice.
I understand that these things take hard work, but step by step, we’ll get there.
Happy 4th anniversary to Hive Bookclub! Big congratulations!❤️
@hopestylist @abenad @bipolar95
Any book is actually accepted in this community. We've also accepted comics, manga, manhwa. We also accept author's update and if they are also looking for beta reader for their novels. We stated that
So, basically all genres are welcome.
We used to also do all the things you mentioned, it just needs its revival and so far, through our Monday book club things have been picking up again. Thank you for your feedback.
My wife is a big book reader and ends up doing short video reviews of the books she reads on tiktok
So i try and see if any good recommendations come up here for her so thank you
Congratulations on these 4 years of Hive Book Club! I thank @macchiata for creating this space for us to express our love for books. Books have been with me since I was a child, but I never realized how much I enjoyed reading until I was a teenager. From then on it was a journey of no return, books are part of my daily life, I always carry some with me and in my devices to read whenever the opportunity arises.
To this community I owe much of my stay in Hive Blog because it is where I always felt comfortable to share my readings, I came from Instagram doing the same and the truth is that I wanted to try a format where I could explain myself better, so to know this community and feel part of it from minute 1 is something I appreciate very much. I love coming here to share my readings with you and see what others you are reading, I like to meet new authors and make others known.
It is true that maybe I was not so active last year, in the sense of interacting with the content published here, because I was able to niche in other communities and now my attention is a little spread out, but I want to continue supporting the community, so I promise to stop by more often to read the publications and interact with others and thus help the community grow.
The truth is that I owe it to Hive Book Club to have met amazing people like @helloisalbani, I love her recommendations, I always keep them on my to-read list because I feel like we like similar books. There is also @naath, I connected with her from other communities, but luckily I found her in her reading periods and I think from there we started talking and now I consider her a friend. I also couldn't forget to mention @eldiariodelys, I love her reviews, they are very complete and she conveys very well what she feels about the books she reads.
I love having this space to write about books and I want it to keep growing. I think it would be great that as active users we make more community between all of us and support the project as we can.
Well, the people I tagged already participated, so I would like to invite you to join me in writing your comment to @generp @andreamtovar19 @andr3apat1no.
Happy anniversary @hivebookclub This is amazing can be part of this community since I am here, on hive.
Thank you so much & we're always happy to have you around and contribute in our community.
good work
Thank you!
Brilliant
Happy anniversary
Thank you! This is actually our first celebration after many years 😊
Reading has become my shelter, the place where I have lived a thousand lives and it has help me to heal my wounds. And so has this community, I love to talk about what I read, something that has always fill me with pride is to recommend good books for those who are looking something nice to read, so once I found out about this magic place, it became my favorite of all hive world.
This community has fourth years of being created and I have about two years of being here and I just can be grateful with @macchiata for opening this space for those like me, whose life is better among pages. Even though I love reading profoundly, I haven't have the opportunity to have a group of people to share what I think about about my lectures, however I always look for sharing it, so created a blog and then when I found out about hive, I thought this was the perfect space for this, for finding out my people and I did thanks to Hive Book Club. This community has give me the opportunity to share point of views with others like me and to know people like @helloisalbani with her great reviews.
Finally, I want to assure that I will always come back because if there is a place in this hive where I feel like home, it is this community. Definately, Hive Book Club it is my favorite space of this web3 and I would love to invite @jessuses1381, @littlesorceress and @naath to share their point of view with all of us.
Thanks for reading until this point, I hope to see you here next time.
First of all, congratulations on your 4th anniversary! It's really not easy to run a community and make it popular among the many inhabitants of our beloved blockchain that is Hive.
I remember that when almost 4 years ago I came to these spaces one of the first communities I subscribed to was this one, because it was precisely one in which I could interact easily because I love literature and everything that has to do with it and this is a space where those who write and like reading, we can give free rein to our tastes.
Thank you for having been maintained over time, which is not easy, as I know the work involved. I hope to visit you a little more often, for the moment, I send you my best wishes and blessings. I invite my friends @annafenix, @ismaelgranados and @actioncats, greetings!
Happy 4th year anniversary, @hivebookclub
Happy to be a part of HIVE since 2020😊Here's hoping to more years!
Yea exactly the goal 👏
Cheers to the long term stay on Hive.

It's exciting to see how a wonderful community get to its 4th anniversary, so first I must congratulate all the people behind its developing, especially @macchiata . Also I appreciate all the support you have given me over the years.
When I first started posting on Hive I was going through a reader block, finding it hard to get back to reading. Then I saw this community and started writing my firsts reviews on books I've already read and in that way I remembered why I love reading.
I found again how exciting it can be to discover a whole new world through the pages of a novel, I realized how much I missed to loose the track of time for being so invested into a story. I remembered how I fell in love with so many characters and how emotional I got while reading their stories.
Reading for me is an experience that cannot be compared to anything else. I can connect with so many aspects of a story making it a special bond between my own creativity, my personal interpretation and the one from the author.
Also here I found so many new stories to explore because this has become a space for all those lovely bookworms to share their personal favorites and their opinions, making it a wonderful place to explore and share with people just like you; making you feel at home.
Thanks to this community I was able to get back to one of the most specials hobbies I have, finding a missing piece of myself I didn't knew I lost.
I would like to invite to participate @eldiariodelys @kiutvariedades and @jessuses1381 whom have shared a lot of valuable content with this community 💕
