Lavender, but it's not

When I first saw this plant at the nursery it was the colour that attracted me; purple/lavender is a legit colour and it stood out right away. I walked over thinking, look at that legit purple daisy, and well...it's not a daisy at all. OK, time to read the label which said, Senetti Lavender. Ok then, so it's a lavender...that looks like a daisy...but nope, I was way off base again.

I did some research and found the Senetti Lavender is of the Pericallis family, and here in the Southern Hemisphere, blooms for a reasonably long time between July and October. Excellent, some of you are coming home with me, is what I thought at the time, and I followed through.

A few days ago I had some time to take a few photos and did so both inside using my lightbox with a spring cheekily plucked from one of my plants - no Pericallis was harmed in the making of this post...much - and outside where I have the plants potted...it's looking magnificent out there I have to say. I'd really like to show you the garden and around my house someday but I like privacy so it's unlikely I will. Anyway, the images in this post are from that photo shoot.

I really love how my garden looks right now, in the middle of winter and, as I've said before, I've designed it so that something is blooming year-round and I enjoy the amazing pops of colour that come out as each thing blooms. It makes me happy to see everything in bloom and looking so healthy; the research, toil and effort I put in all year round pays me back ten times over in colourful and fragrant blooms and fresh produce from my vegetable garden.

My garden is extremely rewarding and makes me feel energised and connected to nature. Maybe if you're not into nature and gardening that won't make sense but it's how I feel and whilst these images can never demonstrate that better than the real thing, I hope they go some way towards showing you what things are looking like around my house at the moment.

Thanks for taking a look at my images today, and if that's all your did, or you decided to read the words too, feel free to leave a comment below on pretty much anything you like, I always respond.

You did a great job with the photography, the color of the flower came out beautifully.

Thank you, it was enjoyable to get these photos taken and I'm happy with the outcome.

There is something so refreshing and beautiful about these shots. The color? The drops? The way your carelessly (although very careful) pose them inside and outside of the box?

Perhaps all of the above and then again, none at all?

The thought that goes into it, from start to finish, the care that is put into it, and the deep respect you have for nature. And beauty. And life.

Killer shots, Galen.

Hey Swiggles! I hope you're well and the weekend has been a good one.

I enjoyed this shoot a lot, these are nice plants to like, the colours are amazing, and I was really pleased with the results. The one of me holding the spring in the light box isn't as focused as I'd have liked but it's hard to hold my hand there, still, and do what I need to do with the camera...my arm isn't that long! I included it even though it's a bit rubbish just because...well, because..

I'm glad you like these shots, I do too.

Get a small tripod. It will give you the stability you are looking for. Either that or grow another pair of hands.

I included it even though it's a bit rubbish just because...well, because.

I get it. :)

I have a tripod, it's not about stability. The tripod is set up in front of the light box, my hand is in the light box, and my arm is not then long enough for me to sit behind the camera and see the screen clearly, too close to the screen. I need a hand model, that'll solve the issue.

Stunning! Nature always amazes with its surprises. They have all kind of color, this is too bright never seen before anyway i am too poor in anthology alwsy seek the help of Google photos.😉

Thanks man, I really love these images, I'll be honest. I don't mean from a photographic perspective really, I'm not a good photographer, but from the contrast of colours and how the colour makes me feel.

I appreciate you taking a look and commenting, you're a champ.

Bright things alwsy gives a good vibe and when it is natural then make things very beautiful....you are good photographer I have seen your work, especially the cologne work was very impressive for me.🥂

Oh yeah, those cologne shots...they came out pretty well I think and I had some fun putting that post together. My grandfather used to do flower photography when I was a kid, I wish I was interested at the time and learned from him but I did not. It's a shame and something I regret now. He passed away when I was eighteen and I'll never have the chance to spend time with him doing something we both enjoy. A big regret for me.

We miss those golden company, noone can ever replace them. Though never had a chance to spend with my Granfather but just wish my dad to comes back for once or even for a day... but they are the gone soul, we are only left to wish for their peace.

I think your dad is somewhere hangin' with my dad looking at us and thinking, damn we did a good job with those lads.

I know you miss your dad, I miss mine too, but it's our time mate, let's get life done as best we can and be the best people we can be, as our dad's would have wanted.

Surely doing that, getting back on track for another grueling phase.. but those souls will be missed forever for whatever reason they have.
To my dad & yours ..🙏 RIP!

Your garden must look magnificent, I don't doubt it, I close my eyes and it's as if I can see it with all these beautiful flowers and the vegetable garden. I love it!

This colour of flowers you bring today means, change, transmutation, energy and it's wonderful.

Lovely pictures, especially 1 and 5.
I love the effect achieved in the last one... as if it was abstract art. It was great!

It is very gratifying to have your own garden, the nature, the scents and above all the colour.

Thanks Galen!

Your garden must look magnificent

It sure does. I'd show images but that would be getting a little too personal I think and I'd rather not display my private home for all the world to see.

The purple colour against the green looks great right? I also like those you picked out and am pleased you see the abstract nature of the last one which is what I was going for.

I understand, I wouldn't show my house either. And I liked to imagine it.

Purple is a secondary colour that contrasts with its complementary, which is the colour from which it is not formed.
Complementary colours
Green - Red
Orange - Blue
Purple - Yellow

This is just an idea...

But with green it looks great too!😀

Purple is the only colour that matches every other colour...or so I have been told.

Maybe, but not so much with the brown. Purple is made up of blue and red, with which it will always combine, and its derivatives and contrast with yellow.

But there are many variations of purple, so it can be combined with various colours.

Ok.

At least that's what I learnt in drawing and painting...

If you have yellow flowers you could see how they look together.

Good for you, that you have a garden, that is gratifying in the end, that is one of the things that you look for at home, to be well with everything you have and with the most beautiful things like a garden, that color that the flowers have is one of the favorite colors of my youngest daughter.

I showed her the pictures, and she said: WOW Dad what beautiful flowers, my wife also liked those pictures.

By the way I can laugh a lot with the names of the pictures, I also give my pictures some similar names, especially for those who love to steal pictures.

I am a guy who loves nature, natural places and the beauty of what nature presents us, so it makes sense I have a garden and that I work at making it look as beautiful as I can. I find great peace there, and in creating a space that reflects me and my personality.

I'm pleased that your family like my images, they're there to be enjoyed.

I don't take kindly to people using my images, even less so when they don't have the respect enough to ask first, and I come down hard when I see it. I once zeroed out a persons reputation score to nothing and removed every reward they got from the moment they stole my image. I have that user on my favourites list so I'll know if they post ever again and I'll take those rewards too. I'm brutal like that.

First and foremost, I like the smell of lavender. Second...hahaha...I'm laughing at what I'm about to tell you right now. Cool pics, but... the orb experiment isn't exactly paying off, it's a gumby thing I see there.
;) hahahahahaha (I'm kidding, sort of, but it's true) I was like this 😧
You have very clean nails, when you work in the garden bring them with soil. Hahaha... don't give me DV, please.

Lavender is legit, I have a lot of it around my house and I guess you've seen some of my images of it maybe, so we agree on that for sure!

I love that you give your opinion...I actually love the orb image, it's abstract and melds the informality and randomness of nature with the rigid structure of the orb, a man made thing, and demonstrates my relationships with nature, both informal and free and structured, like the way I approach my gardening process. I love that image, but it's ok that you do not like it. Also, interesting you comment on what you didn't like rather than what you did like.

I didn't say I don't like it. I said what I said to provoke you, but I already see that you have shown a conceptual depth to justify the artwork. Well done.

;)

I am a blunt instrument, meaning I'm not a smart man, but that's all relative I guess, and I'm comfortable with who I am.

Galenkp, it doesn't matter what we are to the world, we are what we are to ourselves and the ideal is to be happy with what we have. In short, whatever you say, you are a unique image for me. As you are unique for others, to the extent and in the way that each one assumes you. That is to say, you are many Galenkp.

I'll stick with mine and I think that yes, yes you are very smart. And blunt. Ah, you reminded me now of James Blunt.

Yep, I'm many things...not all of them good, but one aspect of me is my deep-seated desire to continually improve who I am, for me and those close to me who care about me, and so I strive with that in mind.

I am...direct, in thought, word and deed. I see no reason to be otherwise and have had a need in my life to apply candour, be forthright and clear...I am many things though, that's just one element of me.

James Blunt, an ex-military guy (served in the Kosovo War 1999) with the British Life Guards. I like him as a singer though, passionate and unafraid to say it how it is. (Comfortable in himself.)

It is the best way to be. Direct. We talked about this. These are the kind of people I like and feel comfortable with. I didn't know about James, that he was military. I read in your last post that you do a lot of things for a group of ex-military men. I really liked that post. I hope you can come up with a name for the group. And good luck with that expedition you want to do.

Oh, and I kept the smell of lavender in my mind since I started reading, but I know that's not it. So, those flowers that look so fresh and moist, what do they smell like?

Wow, the photos are really great and beautiful, the quality is amazing.

I honestly don't like colors that are similar to purple but, I can't deny that there are things that have that or other colors similar to it, like lavender, and they look really beautiful like this flower that you shared with us here.

Thanks for uploading these nice photos, greetings! ☺️

You don't like the colour purple? That's ok I think, we all have our likes and dislikes.

I like to see all of nature's colours, they're all beautiful I think, but that's not surprising as I am a guy who loves everything about nature. Thanks for making a comment though, maybe I'll photograph something different in a colour you like someday.

I agree with you! I mean, I too love all colors when it comes to nature. I don't like the purple color but I'm not saying it's an ugly color hahaha, it's pretty, just me and I have my favorites.

But that's why I'm telling you, regarding nature I have the same thought as you. The colors look so beautiful.

Thanks again for sharing. I'll keep an eye out then in case I get to see another post of yours highlighting my favorite color hahaha. I look forward to 🙏🏻

I have a particular fascination with purple, and there are probably very few girls who don't like flowers. Purple flowers are very beautiful to see, in spring my campus also blooms with many colors including purple flowers.
A flower is a symbol of softness and if it is purple in color then its softness is doubled.
Nature is really beautiful. Amazed to see your pictures .

It's a beautiful colour right? When I saw this plant I knew I had to have it...and I got it. These photos were enjoyable to take and I think they came out ok. Thanks for your comment.

Greetings, very beautiful pictures you share with us of your plant, it is very interesting its colour as you mentioned that it caught your attention.

I share your taste for nature, so I understand you perfectly, I am glad to know that you have a nursery in your home, it will be a good idea to have one in my home in some future!

Thank you for sharing this post and such beautiful pictures!

Thank you, I appreciate your comment.

It's nice to hear you like nature too, are there particular places you like to engage in that passion, places you like to go?

It was with pleasure my friend!

Well, any place where you can be in contact with nature and all that it transmits to us is a good place, but honestly I like much more when it is a mountain, a hill, especially if they have rivers that generate around them a peculiar type of nature and we can not forget the nature that can be seen on the beach and offers us the sea.

In fact, today I will finish a series of night photographs that I have been sharing for 2 days and tomorrow I will start to publish another series sharing posts from a visit I made to the hill with my partner.

In them you will be able to see the nature that we were able to witness that day in our surroundings.

Good luck with those night photos, I'm sure they'll be great.

The beauty of some flowers is a boon to nature. Such flowers have always been a source of joy to humans.

I agree, human's should love flowers more, they bring bees and bees bring life. Nature is wondrous.

Those are really nice photos. I like the little water droplets on the petals, and the effects it adds to the pictures. Some of the colors look so vibrant that they look fake, but I guess that shows the freshness of the plants and flowers.

Thanks for sharing this post.

Thank you sir, or should I call you outty? Anyway, I appreciate you taking a look at my photos.

It's interesting how a few drops of water can add so much appeal and interest right? This plant is real, meaning alive, and yep, it's vibrant, that's what attracted me to it in the first place. I love the contrast of purple on green.

Haha, that's the first time I've seen someone considered outty as a nickname. That's fine for me.

It's cool how these little things can really enhance an object. I haven't really read a lot of your posts before, but I have seen them in trending from time to time. I just thought you were good with writing thoughtful posts. But after a couple of days of following you, I have come to greatly appreciate your creativity as well. I like the way you take pictures, taking into account the contrast, tinkering with depth of perception, and your unique take on focus and angles are really refreshing.

Thank you for your posts, they serve as a nice daily surprise.

I'm Australia, we can make a nickname out of anything.

Lol...You talk about my photography as if I actually know what I'm doing. I can assure you, I do not. I don't use editing software so have to get a decent result out of the camera and whilst I'll not win any awards for my photos, I enjoy the process and that's what's important to me.

With my posts...I just be myself because I can't be anyone else, and don't want to be. So, what you see is well, me. I like to write some stuff hence the word-count in my posts which I've maintained since mid-2017 when I started here and I don't use any other social media which means I don't have to split my focus.

as if I actually know what I'm doing. I can assure you, I do not

I guess that's why I find it so refreshing. It isn't like the conventional professional photos I see all the time.

Keep doing what you do, and how you do it. I think a lot of your readers appreciate it, me included.

I honestly don't know much about gardening or even flowers, but I am always struck by the photos you share about them, so I always end up reading what you write and end up learning something new about flowers as is the case today, thank you so much for sharing.

Thanks mate, I appreciate you saying so, especially considering I'm not much of a photographer. Thanks for reading too, I know this community is all about the photography but I like to add some words, thoughts or descriptions to my posts here anyway.

wow - I love your shots!

Thank you, I appreciate that, it's nice to get some favourable feedback. 😊

@galenkp , loving your images, we might be having that same engagement with nature🤗 and gardening, t'was a very rewarding experience seeing what you planted and cared for flourish isn't?and it's kind of privilege for it to let you see its beauty 😍.. keep at it❣️🌺

Thanks, nature is awesome right? It's certainly a privilege to engage with nature.

What's your gardening all about? Vegetables and fruits or flowers?

These pictures are great and beautiful, indeed your garden is rewarding. Nature never ceases to amaze us.

Nature is truly a wondrous thing, it's a shame human beings treat it so badly.

Nice series! Love it!

Cheers, I appreciate that.

Beautyful yours photos, I'm new here at hive if you want to know my art.

New? You started in May 2022, so well over a year now. Thanks for your comment and the link.

Can you recommend a beginner friendly flowering plant for an aspiring gardener like myself? One thing to note is that i live in a condominium and i can only plant in pots. I won’t have access to natural soil.

No, not really. It depends on your location, the climate and position to the sun. You can head down to your local plant nursery and they'll be able to advise you on the most suitable plant to match your needs.

I love colour purple so much and the sprinkles of water on the flowers made it look extra beautiful
Nice pictures
You took them well!

Tha ks, I'm glad you approve of my photography. Thanks for commenting.
