Regarding Inleo, I appreciate your balanced approach even if you are not a user of their platform. The problem with onboarding a big number of users is that many of them will turn inactive, even without any bad intentions. That's the case of practically all major social networks. They are more active because they simply have an immense number of users compared to us, many of whom are inactive. But still the remaining ones make their platforms look alive.
The alternative is to cherry pick new users, have a better retention, but never grow, but possibly have more dead accounts than new active ones over time naturally.
People want marketing for Hive, and I want it too. But when Splinterlands wanted funds for marketing they fought back. When Inleo wants funding for marketing, they fight back (and Khal is right, during their marketing campaigns, both HIVE and DASH grew significantly, which many probably forget - I'd say the listings are a result of that and not the growth a result of listings, maybe except the Binance one), Value Plan is not wanted either (to some points, I agree). So, the question is... do we want marketing or not? Or we want marketing for free?
Maybe there are cheaper alternatives that are effective. I want to see them! Right now I have seen Inleo and will likely see Splinterlands very soon. And we have seen Value Plan, with good and bad.
If 10% of the newbies stuck around and did stuff it would be something, but it seems it was less than that. We do get clashes of personality around here. I've seen so many people say we need marketing, but enough have to agree on who runs it. I've no expertise in that area.
There are big egos for sure on Hive. And likely, no matter who would run these campaigns, someone would be against for some reason.
About the 10% new users active... I don't know what to say. I suppose the number was reached after removing those who only briefly interacted. Yes, I agree, it would be nice if at the end, onboarding would result in a significant retention of quality people, but... that's quite difficult to achieve at scale, in my opinion.
Oh! of course there are cheaper alternatives much more effective to promote and marketing Hive and above all, to attract, onboard and retain new active users in our "social network" in tha blockchain.
