The News

It has been another 'interesting' week on Hive. The $HIVE price could not sustain the January highs, but is still well ahead of the 'legacy' coin. $LEO is struggling too.

Prices from @coingecko

The big drama was around Hive-Engine that was out of action for a while. I got some details from the Rising Star Discord where this update from @aggroed was posted on Wednesday:

Discord post

It seems that the rogue account spammed thousands of transactions that clogged up the chain. It seems to be working again after a limit on transactions was added. This sort of thing is hard to plan against. In this case it was a single account, but we know that some people control thousands of accounts that could be used like this. It is a lot of responsibility to run any system dealing with finance and it is likely to be attacked.

Friday Follows

I am going to feature drummers again as this is something I am into. I started a drumming community that gets a few posts. I really think that Hive needs to develop in distinct niches around an interest. There are huge drumming communities on other platforms and we can offer an alternative.

  • @nahupuku in Venezuela is a prolific musician with an amazing kit.
  • @wilddrumss is also in Venezuela and posts some great covers of songs.
  • @bateristasvzla is an organisation of drummers in Venezuela. They have their own community and that is fine as it can focus on what they are up to. I do not mind people cross-posting to my one.
  • @ale.dri and @giampaolo19 are both professional drummers in Italy who post videos of what they are working on.
  • @oripenalver has not posted for a while, but she was playing in an all female rock band.
  • @manassehgaya is a new Hiver in Nigeria. He has posted about drumming, but I have not seen any videos from him yet.

Have you created any communities for your interests? It is not too expensive to do that, but you have to put in the work to get people involved. I think that communities have a lot of potential as it reduces the need to follow lots of people and the content can be moderated.

The Dog House

I will start by saying that this is not an attack on anyone. I want what is best for Hive. There have been various posts about the efforts by the Leo Finance team to on-board communities from other chains. They have had some success with $DASH already. They are saying that thousands of accounts were created last year, but others point out that hardly any of those have been very active and few have built up any significant HP. I could create hundreds of accounts, but that means little if they do nothing. Hive needs active people who are adding value with their activities. That value can take many forms. Plenty of people will talk about the lack of engagement on most posts, but it happens on other platforms. I would say that is partly down to the small community, but we have to start somewhere.

From my own experience of maintaining the #BritList I am not seeing any significant influx of new users. You would expect that at least some of them would set a location on their profile that my scripts would notice.

What I do not like to see is people having fights over such issues. InLeo has a large and active community that ought to be an asset. It is great that we have choice in how we interact with our blockchain. I happen to prefer peakd. There can be cooperation across projects for the common good and I am sure the teams talk to each other.

It is easy to point to issues with Hive, but we need to work on how to address them. I would say that a major one is gaining and retaining active users.

The End

I have not been posting about meetups in a while, but I can suggest looking in the Buzzparty community where they tend to get announce. I would recommend getting to one if you can.

I am sharing rewards with @commentrewarder as usual to spread the joy. Have a great weekend and Hive on!

Hi Steve, I agree with what you wrote, I have not yet been able to find a community of Italian drummers, for example.
Engagement is not as easy as on the most common social networks.
Anyway, thanks for mentioning me and your community of drummers ;-)

At least we have a couple of Italian drummers here, so that's a start.

Yes, of course 😃 💪

Surely with an account name like Shaggroed it had to be a Brit!

Either that or a fan of seabirds. Maybe it was Shaggy!

If it hadn't of been for those pesky kids!! 🤣🤣

It wasn't me!

Haha, I was actually just thinking there that there were two Shaggy's!

Was a shit week - I wanted to increase Hive stake and bought a lot at 40-45 cents - now sitting on it while prize is belwo 30 cents - keep on waiting for a pump - I though we are stable now on a higher level.

Anyways.

But @steevc - I found some former tsu guys i will hopefully bring over to Hive

Crypto is fickle. At least you can be earning with Hive. Good luck with recruiting.

Regarding Inleo, I appreciate your balanced approach even if you are not a user of their platform. The problem with onboarding a big number of users is that many of them will turn inactive, even without any bad intentions. That's the case of practically all major social networks. They are more active because they simply have an immense number of users compared to us, many of whom are inactive. But still the remaining ones make their platforms look alive.

The alternative is to cherry pick new users, have a better retention, but never grow, but possibly have more dead accounts than new active ones over time naturally.

People want marketing for Hive, and I want it too. But when Splinterlands wanted funds for marketing they fought back. When Inleo wants funding for marketing, they fight back (and Khal is right, during their marketing campaigns, both HIVE and DASH grew significantly, which many probably forget - I'd say the listings are a result of that and not the growth a result of listings, maybe except the Binance one), Value Plan is not wanted either (to some points, I agree). So, the question is... do we want marketing or not? Or we want marketing for free?

Maybe there are cheaper alternatives that are effective. I want to see them! Right now I have seen Inleo and will likely see Splinterlands very soon. And we have seen Value Plan, with good and bad.

If 10% of the newbies stuck around and did stuff it would be something, but it seems it was less than that. We do get clashes of personality around here. I've seen so many people say we need marketing, but enough have to agree on who runs it. I've no expertise in that area.

There are big egos for sure on Hive. And likely, no matter who would run these campaigns, someone would be against for some reason.

About the 10% new users active... I don't know what to say. I suppose the number was reached after removing those who only briefly interacted. Yes, I agree, it would be nice if at the end, onboarding would result in a significant retention of quality people, but... that's quite difficult to achieve at scale, in my opinion.

Maybe there are cheaper alternatives that are effective. I want to see them!

Oh! of course there are cheaper alternatives much more effective to promote and marketing Hive and above all, to attract, onboard and retain new active users in our "social network" in tha blockchain.

All you have to do is click here and then click on all the images and links in color phrases that you will find in the post to which the «click» will take you to find the instructions.

Nice, lol!

Drummer community? Sounds interesting. I'll take a look ASAP.

A drumming community! Maybe this would be the right incentive for my ex drummer to finally join Hive 🤞🏻

They will be very welcome.

I’m having a lot of fun finding new communities on hive, hopefully Leo’s onboarding push can grow some more active users to join these and create new ones !BBH

We need to get those people involved. Everyone has multiple interests beyond crypto.

I did notice the entire crypto market took a beating the last two weeks.

However, Hive dipping is always awesome! I should stack up some now

It's great if you can buy more, but low price dents confidence in others.

I have come to think that the platform needs more “advertising” in terms of its potential. Even if there are drawbacks to the system and crypto values are not always favorable to certain communities.
People need to get to know every tool the platform has available and look beyond the possibilities.

Because in the case of new users, not being very well informed or simply because they are beginners, they think that the platform only consists of creating content of some niche constantly and receive rewards.

I imagine that for them that can be demanding if there is no coordination between them.

I think Hive has a lot to offer people in various areas. We need platforms that are not controlled by corporations. Rewards are a nice bonus. I'm not sure how you sell that.

It's nice to see Hive-Engine chugging along again.

Definitely. I am sure some people do a lot of trading there and missed it. I was wanting to do some trades too. They all went through eventually.

Yeah, the price of HIVE moving probably didn't help things too much.
