Did you notice the new Snaps button on PeakD today?
This is PeakD's version of Threads (InLeo), Moments (Liketu), and Waves (Ecency) that you see on other UI.
Have something you want to get off your chest but don't want to write a full post about it?
This is where Snaps come in.
So snaps are just threads?
Not really, Snaps was designed to be platform agnostic and can be implemented by other front ends. Unlike other options, you can also filter by just users you follow and those who have interacted with those you follow. What's great, this feature works on all of the supported short form platforms not just snaps. Something I found missing on Threads for example.
INb4 the claims Snaps is a ripoff of Threads, this feature is not a new idea. It was originally implemented by @jesta for ChainBB, then copied by @buildteam for their ForumBB and I believe @therealwolf used it for Inji as well. Everyone is working around the same limitations of blockchain technology to implement new features and ideas.
Cross Platform Support
I would really love to see all platforms come together and support a standardized format for short form content. Under the hood, they all do something similar. They create a daily post and then all the short form "tweets" are a comment under this container post. Each platform has their own post which is used by their front end to index their short form content.
PeakD as a rule has always tried to make every feature platform agnostic, so other front ends can adopt them as well. Recently I asked @qu0chuy to help implementing PeakD's countdown feature into Hive.blog for the Hive Auctions project. I would love to see Polls implemented on other front ends in such a way as well as it is a completely open standard.
Rather than create moats on all these front ends, we could have features supported by all communities in a uniform way that isn't exclusionary. I know certain features will always be locked behind exclusivity, but many of these things would benefit everyone to be cross platform and standardized.
My favorite snaps
I'm going to keep an eye on snaps over the next few days and will be voting my favorite snaps.
Haha how much fun is this! I often don't post at all because I am bent on only putting up full adventures with plenty of pictures. Shorter form posts relieve that weight and let me interact with the blockchain and community a little easier.

Let's SNAP!
I have always appreciated how Peakd quietly gets on with the best user experience for everyone in a non competitive way. Just when you think something would be cool the team is already on it. I was only checking out waves last week and snaps has already added all the features I found were missing. I'm just glad it's on Peakd as tbh I hate switching UI.
Thanks for the heads-up on this! I just poked around a bit, and it seems that @peakd "got it right" once again. Aside from this:
From the 10 minutes of looking at Snaps, it's a beautifully seamless integration, and UI is intuitive and easy to use; it loads fast feels like it actually "belongs" as part of the whole experience. By far the best execution of short format I have seen so far... actually worthy of mentioning as part of promoting Hive externally.
Agreed. It's already a better experience than the similar short form experience I've seen elsewhere across Hive.
Yeah I just looked at it because of another post mentioning it, pretty cool, I like peakd so I'll probably use this sooner than threads 🙂
Thanks for the update. I will take a look to see. A lot of innovation happening on the hive frontends. It's fascinating.
Well I must say. I like this idea.
I really enjoyed threads at the beginning, then as they developed it, it got harder to use. Definitely going to try Snaps.
Jc - why do you say it's harder to use? I have only seen feedback that is contrary to that as we've refined the innovative features (like Containers).
If you have some specific feedback then tag me and I'll look into it. Otherwise, try https://inleo.io because it seems you may have not used it in a while
Oh, I'm talking years ago, I'm sure it's great now but I'm on to other things here on Hive.
Instead of building this again from scratch & funded, wouldn't it be advised to improve the existing dApp which also funded?
Wouldn't it be called waste of funding?
Improve which dApp?
I don't know. You pick one. There are some.
LeoThreads, Ecency Waves, etc. which are funded to build the same things.
via Inbox
Leo's funding is for onboarding/marketing not their dApp.
Ecency has been funded for a while but I honestly know very little of it.
I know PeakD team tries to make things platform agnostic so other projects can use their features whenever they can. I have a lot of respect for that.
Yep as Marky said - LEO gets 0 funding for development
The cost of development is and always has been bootstrapped
I do agree it's a waste of dev funding to build what has already been built 🤷🏽♂️
People seem to enjoy their sandboxes
To me, this is worth funding because the execution (usability, speed, UX) is significantly better than any of the others.
I'm biased towards @peakd projects because they tend to build "for the rest of us," not just "tech bros and developers building for other tech bros and developers." And that matters, if Hive is to ever get traction outside the tiny niche it currently occupies...
$PIZZA slices delivered:
@danzocal(8/10) tipped @themarkymark
I will give it a try, I usually put up a thread post every day when I do a hive power up.
I do find inleo a bit buggy and non responsive, hopefully snaps are as good as peakd.
Have you used it lately? I don't find any feedback indicating this is true
Perhaps the last time you used https://inleo.io was when the first version of the UI was unveiled. I'd try again

Great features
We really do need such functions to work across the dapps. I'm not going to check multiple microblogs. They can add enhancements on top of the basic stuff. I use Ecency on my phone plus peakd and InLeo on desktop, partly so I see the features of each. Other functions like polls and chat should work across them. Have they already standardised polls? What we don't want is a fragmented community as it's pretty small anyway.
PeakD Polls can be implemented by any front end along with a lot of other features.
Yes.. I noticed it and used it already. 😄😄
That is pretty awesome. I am excited to see this come to the platform that I use most often. I always forget about waves over on Ecency. I only use that when I am mobile anyway. I am going to have to try and make it a point to use this more. I know my engagement on Threads was pretty abysmal when I tried using that.
There is a lot of fragmentation of an already tiny community.
Yeah, it always seemed to be the same people getting the majority of the engagement. I think most people just glance past the rest of the stuff.
So is it only for desktop? I don't see anything like that on Android..
I think so, I don't see it on iOS either, but I asked.
so thats not spam somehow?
ok, but memes are
Huh?
the reason i got downvoted massive + ai content and told i should leave hive and post somewhere else
I really have no idea what Hive Watchers do.
There is also a distinction between spam, farming, and rewards.
yeah the funny thing is, you get downvoted and your content get not displayed or shadowed out.
Turned off rewards, get downvoted, and content becomes an extra box to click to display.
Also funny, you turn of rewards means no HE token rewards :D is pretty bad and i am sure as soon enough people use short form content, someone will curate it in a way it turns off users.
That's something you would have to take up with Hive Watchers. They are the sanctioned and funded authority on Hive.
Na i dont want to go into hive politics to have fun with 4 or 5 guys i shared memes with.
I mean fuck the 50 cent rewards, but memes are mostly what people do on the internet. So i dont see how this can thrive in a environment like that.
I prefer Twitter.
It seems like an awesome idea! I can't wait to try it out!
I'm curious why DBuzz, the best microblogging on Hive, is always left out of these conversations?
Because they bailed after they stopped receiving their $800/day for a few years.
Seems like interesting addition. I may snap from time to time. Still part of me would be pretty sad if my snaps at some point would earn more than my real posts.
But I will worry about it if I will cross that bridge.Without any doubt, this is the best idea of this year, it gives a new look to the front and I am sure it will allow a lot of interactivity. Personally (I think you've already seen it, or if not you will see it in the next few days), I will be using it to make reviews of what I like the most: art.
Thank you very much for this idea, I just love it!
This is all team @peakd, I just made a suggestion.
oh I thought it was you, I think it's very good that you are sharing on this, because I am sure that many users have no idea or understand what snaps are about.
I see great potential in this, it seems like a very positive way for people to briefly report things, and what I like is that everything is in one place (waves, leo, snap, moments)
So thank you again, and I hope this is used for a long time, I think it gives a boost of fresh air to peakd and hive.
I was just trying to help create exposure so people know about it. I did suggest the idea though.
That's wonderful, later in the Hispanic curation activity on Discord, I will make reference to the snaps so that more people find out about this.
Now a question, snaps are limited to what number of characters?
(I know that the blue circle gives us an idea how much character left to write, but the remaining or maximum characters that you can write do not appear)
Allright thankyou Mark! 🤗
I have been using Ecency Waves since it was first implemented a year ago and it has become one of my favorite features on Hive!
I've gone back to using PeakD and I will soon be making my first post on Snaps. Up to now, I have been using Waves which has the advantage of being able to use it on my mobile. It had the disadvantage of not being able to use it on a desktop until PeakD included it in Snaps.
