Are you getting enough sleep? Some are saying 6 hours isn't enough

How much sleep is necessary for a productive day?

If you're someone who relies on 6 hours sleep or less a night it may be damaging your productivity according to the latest article. It seems that to be more productive requires more hours of sleep at least according to the article.

In my own opinion sleep quality matters just as much as sleep quantity and problems such as sleep apnea may negatively influence sleep quality. Sleep quality is measured in the amount of time you spend in REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Typically people in REM sleep have dreams so the amount of dreaming you do may also give an indication of sleep quality. Of course this article could also be clandestinely sponsored by bed and anti-anxiety drug companies to boost sales but that would be a conspiracy theory.

7 hours are good.

Not for me

How many hours for you?

You need to inculcate that, 7 hours is good enough, you only would be accumulating stress when you deprive yourself of enough rest.

Thank you @dana-edwards for your post,
I guess sleep quality as you mention, is measured in the amount of time you spend in REM sleep. I usually feel I have a better rest when dreams are present, @ali86

Thanks @dana-edwards for your post

I usually sleep 7 hours, but 5hours only after meditation, maybe meditation is a good exercise too.

well, its more imporant how many hours you get a quality sleep ... if you sleep 5 hours without waking up for the toilett, bad dreams etc.. it can be more than enough if you sleep 7 hours but you wake up two times for the toilett, one time because of bad dreams... I think 5-7 hours is generally ok and it depends from person to person.

8 hours for me,, any less and I feel tired

Honestly with the baby here and all, I'd be lucky to get 4 hours of sleep .. even though sleep is very important for your health, there's just not enough time anymore . 24 hours in a day just doesn't seem like enough

I can personally attest to the amount and quality of sleep affecting productivity. There is only so long that we can run on near empty. Sleep is the body's time for repair and maintenance. If you're not getting enough sleep, you start wearing your body down. I can cheat myself on sleep for about a five days before ultimately I start coming down with cold like symptoms.

In my personal experience, 10 hours is optimal. Eight hours of sleep is enough to have a great day. A decent day can be accomplished on seven to seven and a half hours... But sleep is so elusive for me. My body hates getting up before 9am, and I don't like trying to go to bed before midnight. However, I have to be awake before 7am (and I'm lucky I don't have to get up at 5 or 6am). I, unfortunately, have to rely on sleep aides to help me go to sleep at the right time. It's truly better than not getting enough sleep! (Yes, I have tried every natural method out there.)
