Looking at the Seasoning Sauce Crocks Near the Monks’ Resident Place in Whaeom-sa Temple

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

After passing through the 4 Heaven Kings Gate, I saw the gate which I’ve never heard before.
The name of the gate was Sangwang-mun, which meant ‘Elephant King Gate”.
The appearance was not special, but the name itself looked special.
Entering into the gate, I noticed that this was the resident place for the monks.
Usually this private spaces were forbidden to ordinary people. But when the gate is opened, it is as same as the permission of entering into.

There was a monk spreading his washing cloths to dry under the sunlight.
Near his household, there were the traditional Seasoning Sauce Crocks.
It must be soy sauce. It is very difficult to make good soy sauce. It needs a time and the patience with a true heart.
This soy sauce making process is the symbol of Korean way of slow life.
But now it was changed too much in Korea. Everything goes fast.

Now this traditional sauce making process is being disappeared in Korea.
It seems troublesome way of living in city life.
Now my mom’s generation keeps this tradition, so people would forget how to make the traditional soy sauce after my mom’s generation.

Only the temples are preserving the traditional way of life.
So it was so glad to see those traditional sauce crocks.

...my dear friend @slowwalker

Quiet, there is always someone who preserves these traditional recipes

oh yes, good soy sauce is hard to find here in germany.

That is really cool! It is kind of sad how so many of the old traditions are slowly dying out. I am worried that at some point no one will no how to do anything properly; be it soy sauce, cheese making or any number of skills requiring a good amount of patience.

@slowwalker, It's glad to see Sauce Crocks in Monks’ Resident Place in Whaeom-sa Temple. It has traditional look and I agree with your point of view.

Only the temples are preserving the traditional way of life.

Absolutely right. Current society going further with new technology. So they forget traditional technology. First time I see sauce crocks from Korean society coz I never visit there. However I'm lucky to see that.

All types of traditional food do require a complicated process for making, but it tastes very delicious compared to the modern way of making. So does the sauce you mean ... So the trouble in making it will pay off with the delicious taste ..

Gorgeous photos. I did not know that soy sauce can be associated with the king of elephants.

Thanks again for sharing some great photos.

Very interesting place.
Thanks for the photos, @slowwalker
I have never been to such temples before.

You were lucky to be able to enter the residential place for monks, it is always interesting to be there where there is restricted area. I can imagine the life of those monks, who have their one aim and live as a little community with their own tasks. I can imagine that in the past it might have take some time to produce soy sauce, to tell the truth I love to add it to my rice dishes and also there is a Russian traditional dish that I like to cook and my family loves it with soy sauce. The dish is called pelmeni, there are some mixed filling: meat, onion with some spices and then they are rolled in a small dumplings that are cooked and we serve with soy sauce :)

Thanks for sharing...this was awesome!

Very cool to see the traditional soy sauce crock pots

I live the story here - dliwmade soy sauce from organic originals must be truly delicious. I am s little wary of mass produced soy sauce these days to be honest and agree the slow way is the best way without question ☺️ Happy trails @slowwalker 🌈

Lovely indeed! I like the outside softness of the image and love the forest. very beautiful place. Nice to put the image to the descriptions, especially catch stunning images.
Great lighting and composition. Nice shot! Love your photography style.

I have even used a crock for preserving food such as pickles, food.
