Scotch Bonnet Home Churned Butter (five easy minutes!)

in #recipes8 years ago

Butter, it's magic. Add scotch bonnets and boom, suddenly there are shooting stars everywhere!! So is this magic hard? No it's a breeze!

I have known for ages since watching a breakfast tv show how easy it is to make butter at home, obviously plain old butter ain't gonna cut it in this household so pazang! Add scotch bonnets! This genuinely takes a little over five minutes for at least a week of joy. Let's go!!

You will need

600 mls of heavy cream (Double cream to us Brits!)
1 spicy little scotch bonnet pepper (habanero would do)
A pinch of sea salt

Yup, that's it!!!

To make

You will love the simplicity of this. All you have to do is churn the cream. But first, let's finely chop that bonnet

Now bang your cream into a food processor/blender and add your chopped bonnet and pinch of sea salt like below

Now blend it for three or four minutes.

After this time you will start to hear it rattle in the blender. Have a peek in, it should look a bit like scrambled eggs

Now tip it out onto a sieve above a bowl.

You will see a lot of liquid pouring out. This is buttermilk!! Your very own! Keep it and use it in pancakes and scones and shit like that!! Your welcome!!

Now give your butter in the sieve a good squeeze to get the remaining buttermilk out

Finally, once squeezed give your big ball of butter a dip in some cold water to wash any last bit of buttermilk out. Then dab with a bit of kitchen paper dry.

Now you have a big ball of home made spicy scotch bonnet butter!! It won't be too spicy at first. It gets hotter the longer you leave it :0)

Stick it in a tub and use on everything

Put some on your fish, your steak, heck even your toast!!

Or if feeling festive, on top of your Christmas tree crumpet!!

Enjoy!!

Did you make that crumpet?? !!! If so, do you have a recipe for that? I love the tree shape.
My Grandmother used to make this butter....that's a million years ago.....I don't recall it being too spicy though.

Mines isn't spicy at first, the pepper in cream mutes it slightly but after a few hours and onward it gets a lot hotter! Kudos to your grandmother for the user of scotch bonnet chillis!!

And sorry no, the crumpet was bought from a shop!!

My eyes are watering just looking at it!

Tears of joy!!! ;0)

Fantastic post just like always @meesterboom.

Thank you very much @gringalicious!!! Your a star!

Never mind the chilli butter! How did you get Christmas tree-shaped pikelets? :)

Awesome post :)

Lol, Morrison's for them!! I used them in my pic cos they go well with butter and they are awfy cute 'n festive!!

They sure are! I might have to put an order if for some for Christmas day breakfast!

Maple syrup poured over lashings of cold butter melting into the pikelets... perfect!

That does sound perfect! Good start to a christmas day! I hope you're fully recovered from your birthday!

I didn't go out on the razz for my birthday... ear infection :(
I have invitations all the way up to Christmas though... I'll be making sure I concentrate on 'recovering' from those nights ;)

Hehe, quite right!

Alas, the crumpets were a treat for my daughter and I didn't make them, I only smeared the butter on one!

No worries.....you have good taste and we all benefit. Cheers.
