Why is Steem never represented at any real crypto conferences?

in #steem7 years ago (edited)

Please choose from the choices below:

A) Ned rejects invites out of fear those who understand crypto will see right though his nonsense.

B) Conferences don’t bother with Steem because there has been no significant development since release and its viewed as a joke.

C) It’s easier to sell Steem to those who don’t and never will understand its significant flaws and lack of leadership/development.

D) Who gives a shit?  Steemit, inc. is killing Steem with their inexperience and poor choices.

E) All of the above.

All of the above.

The nonexistent representation at notable crypto conferences such as Consensus is perhaps indicative of a lack of willingness by Steemit Inc to stand up to thorough scrutiny from the brightest minds and deepest pockets in this growing market.

The months long silence from the CEO of this platform demonstrates negligible engagement with its users. The failure to meaningfully update on the developmental status of SMTs further attests to this.

The continued governance issues that remain unaddressed, coupled with the inordinate control that Steemit Inc has over the Steem supply, will continue to constrain mass adoption and thus the market valuation of the blockchain.

You mean conferences like CoinDesk's Consensus 2018, where Ned will be speaking?

Thanks for pointing that out. This nonetheless ties to comments regarding the need for improved direct engagement with the user base: for example, there's no mention of the participation in the conference anywhere on the Steemitblog page. As such, the marketing of these events is simply lacking.

And the referenced session is structured as a forty-minute group panel. What many are really asking for is a stand alone presentation akin to what the CEO of Twitter is scheduled to do for forty-five minutes. One that thoroughly conveys the value proposition of the Steem blockchain versus others and offers substantive answers to recurring questions like: what are the lessons learned over the two years since its inception, what changes are being made to address long standing governance and UI/UX issues, what is the developmental status of SMTs besides reference to an eight month old white paper, are there plans for the Steem supply to be less centrally controlled, what is the status of corporate partnerships that have been alluded to in the past, etc.

Exactly, nobody cares about a panel where @ned will be overshadowed by those that actually understand crypto.

An article that was published today recapping his recent Korea trip noted the following:

"As a final bit of information, Scott also touched upon the voting system with Steemit.com and said that after feedback analysis that they were going to move from a state-weighted (stake?) voting system to an account-based voting system whereby each user gets one vote on the platform to ensure a fairer compensation process."

If the above statement is in fact true, wouldn't this have the potential to dramatically disrupt the current Top Witness rankings?

Are the Witnesses even aware of the referenced feedback analysis and plan to shift to an account-based voting system where each user's vote carries the same weight irrespective of SP stake?

Or is this all just in reference to voting on posts/comments?

At the SteemFest2 Fireside Chat posted on Steemit's YouTube channel in November 2017, he said eighteen minutes into the interview, "We will get Smart Media Tokens launched early next year." We're nearly half way through 2018, so inquiries regarding the developmental status are justified.

These are just some of the many questions that direct engagement with users here on the platform itself would better facilitate addressing, rather than finding out through the media after the fact.

That line published by the media is not an accurate interpretation/quote.

Account based voting is relevant for SMTs and that’s mentioned in the SMT whitepaper..

Thanks for clarifying. Like many, I look forward to more info on the status of SMT development.

I will say it was quite concerning to hear you stumble upon your words and not answer the question asked by Bloomberg when the subject of "shit posting/low quality" content was brought up. It seems there is no concern or solutions other than steemcleaners? I suspect/hope I am ignorant on these matters and that there are more proactive solutions to these issues outsiders/potential investors will peck at. @ned

Never again will I challenge myself to a game of where's @ned

is ctrl+f so difficult?
image.png

No, but where's the fun in that?
I wasn't being serious

It's E and it's a great shame.

f) STEEM is years ahead of similar tokens and hosts its OWN conferences!

Booya! :D

You do realize just how fucking ignorant that reply is, right?

Yeah, I guess it is easier to keep selling shit to the sheep that have already fell for it.

Can’t slap people down for ignorant comments.
Humanity is stupid, by principle. ☹️

I think it's fairly close to accurate today.

EOS / ONO may come along and wipe the floor with what's present here, but as far as I'm aware nothing is live as yet.

Steemfest, by all accounts, is taking place again this year. I think 300 is the number to beat.

EOS / ONO may come along and wipe the floor with what's present here, but as far as I'm aware nothing is live as yet.

Very possible and their philosophy more closely resonates with my own in that I hate vote buying and selling.

I have couple recent comments on my account where I flagged a couple bot facilitated shitposts with more than $10 STU rewards. Getting really tired of the crap the bots are enabling around here.

If there were any reason I would ever move my efforts from Steem, it's because of that sort of thing really destroying proof of brain. It was good in theory. Bid bots destroyed it in practice

Getting really tired of the crap the bots are enabling around here.

The owners are reducing spam though......

Yeah, I'm with you on the low mood sometimes, but who knows, things might turn around... or sink :)

Why do you own any steem?

No. So you need to upvote me pls ☹️

Maybe because it has been one of, if not the best investment the Post owner has ever made :)

I think you are still a little dehydrated bud. LOL

Check Crypto Twitter. Steem is laughed at as a joke by "serious traders". Very few of them ever list Steem as a bag they are holding.

At the very least there is a perception problem. At the worst, a corruption problem. Reaping the rewards while the system continues to "thrive" is a good play, and my portfolio shows what Steem can accomplish for someone who puts it to work. But for Crypto Mass Adoption, we are out of the loop.

People still use TWITTER? ☹️
Jesus how old are you? Twitter is lame k no one cares what Twitter says

It is very likely I am dehydrated still - when water is leaving from all exits its tough to stay ahead of the game!

If i was a 'serious trader' I'd laugh at STEEM too on missing 7 cents last year - at least in public :)

I don't disagree with the words perception and corruption/abuse being used in relation to what's happening here at present, but I think it's too early to throw the towel in.

The lack of solid news/release date of SMTs has been a big negative, but IF they appear, and IF they get just one big customer (ned holds @amazon... ha!), I can see investors views changing rapidly.

All imho, which also includes backing multiple horses in the same race :)

I think its e).

My guess is that it matters little to you @oldtimer - not knowing your original investment without being nosy, Steemit has done OK for you thus far? :)

I'm not complaining at all. But I don't see any progress. Just words. Month after month. And that makes me sad.

STEEM is years ahead of similar tokens

Maybe it would have been years ahead if @ned hadn't stoped the development.........

Oh the development has stopped? You could have told me this in January!

Why did he stop development? There are still so many problems with flagging and upvote bots☹️

To me, crypto conferences are just promotion activities. Does Steem need it? Not really.

You can see a variety of the videos and talks given by Steemians at the London Crypto Currency Show a few weeks ago at @promo-steem. This was organised by the promo-steem team who are independent steem users, not affiliated with Steemit inc.

I agree that there is a massive failing from Steemit Inc. to properly market and communicate about Steem with the world - however, at least some of us are doing the work.

Didn't Steemit Inc recently participate at TokenFest in San Francisco?
Also, I think Steem was well represented at London Cryptocurrency Show thanks to #promo-steem and @steem-ambassador team.

I hope you're not referring to a 25 minute "fireside chat"... How many people attended that one? 25? Maybe 30?

No, I think TokenFest was big. 2000+ attendance.

tokenfest1.png

This one from TokenFest schedule.

tokenfest2.png

Steemit blog announced it here...https://steemit.com/steemit/@steemitblog/join-team-steemit-at-tokenfest

London Cryptocurrency Show was big as well, I think also 2000+ attendance. But that one was mainly facilitated by #promo-steem team. By the way, this team is doing an amazing job promoting Steem. They may need support from investors like you who care about Steem.

https://steemit.com/promo-steem/@anarcotech/my-thoughts-on-the-london-cryptocurrency-show-what-happened-and-what-we-achieved

I don't think you understand what "fireside chat" means... He definitely did NOT speak in front of 2k people.

Ah ok. You are probably right then.

The irony of it all. A post about how shitty Steem is, getting massive upvotes all the way to the trending page and earning a lot of Steem :) That pretty much sums up the platform and Steem itself.

E) All of the above.

Shitty doesn't mean dead.

Certainly not and it will stay afloat as long as something better doesn't come along. But a platform that touts "content" with the only trending "content" being how crappy the content is on trending won't be around for long - once people realize there is no fix to the underlying issues.

If I may ask, what do you exactly see its a the underlying issues? I see a few but am relatively new to the platform.. I

Just look at the crap on the trending pages for a week. compare that with content you consume outside of steemit and you'll see the underlying issue. You don't need good content to earn money here. You just need a lot of it so you can circle jerk with your other friends that has a lot of it too.

CRYPTO FOR THE WIN!

i think that steemit inc is doing all they can to make steem a great platform. nobody also knows how to fix bitcoin

Though I'm new here, I never thought Steemit is shit platform and I'm really surprised to see this post receiving so many positive replies.
Ok, there may be many shitty contents, "corruption" and whales rubbing reward pool, but that's it :) What you're expecting from a blockchain-based platform, which grants users complete freedom
And why do you wait for Steemit Inc. or @ned to do something? If I'm not wrong Steem is an open-source project and be developed and contributed by anyone. What changes would you suggest to make this platform better?

How about total domination by bots and whales making it impossible to make a go of this without spending huge amounts to time managing tinkering with bots, pledging pools, managing alliances, playing upvote gamesmanship, etc. OR having huge amounts of money to start with... Seems like a pretty big fucking weakness if you ask me.

I do not exclude such a development of events, but I don't think it things will go in that way, thanks to great project and initiatives from old and new community members. And that's how the problem should be solved, by the community, not by Steemit Inc. or @ned, don't forget that this is a decentralized platform.

Wololo!

(RandoHealer has healed this post because your blog was targeted for healing due to malicious downvotes!)

not only is it not open source the underlying programming was "given away" after 10% of it was sold...
in other words it is stolen.

no, that's just twisting words. how is it stolen

I bought a piece of 10% of the profits more than a year before it came out. It was stolen from me. By Daniel Larimer who made a decision not to backup what he sold in the first place.

At first I tried to tell myself that this way of perceiving Steem is wrong, because it reduces the lack of trust that people have when they think about investing in Steem, but then I realized that all of these points in your post are true problems of Steem blockchain. Running away of these problems won't help at all, they should be solved as soon as possible.

Steem of course has a lot of potential, is very scalable, has no fees, but we should not stop at this point because we can do much better. I hope we will see improvements in the near future, and also there is a good start the fact that @ned started to use Steem again after such a long time!

Patience, guys, they already anounced mayor improvements in communities and constally saying that SMT are coming this year.

I wonder, Bernie, why did you invest on the platform? And, has it changed since then?
D.

I think you are missing one point.

You can't trade Steem, which I believe is a shortfall of the Coin.

Hopefully at some point (soon) it will be free trading and buyable and salable anytime we choose.

I have no clue what you're talking about. There are many ways to exchange Steem.

Maybe he's talking about Steem wallets being down @ some of the exchanges? I know on POLONIEX the STEEM deposits/withdrawals have been down FOREVER, or so it seems.

Hi @jschindler - thx for this info. I am looking for a possibility in South America.

I live in Paraguay, and its very difficult to get FIAT money over here.
Someone had recommended POLONIEX as an option, but I have not been able to test it yet.

In Europe / Asia / North America it is not a problem to open an account on the most exchanges, but in many countries in Africa and South America there is a problem.

If someone else had a solution for such countries, I would be very grateful.
Sincerest greetings from Paraguay

Edit: It's not just a problem with STEEM, but with all cryptocurrencies.

Have you tried Binance and Bittrex? Poloniex has an absolutely terrible track record with having their steem wallets shut down, transfers not go through, and other general problems. HitBTC also trades Steem I believe but they are more professional and you need to do like a minimum of 100 per trade or something like that. With Bittrex and Binance you can trade small amounts.

Hi @dexter-k - Thank you for your response. The problem is the verification on these plattforms. They don´t accept people in a lot of countrys in South-America or Africa.

Here in Paraguay i only know one place to pay with Bitcon. A drugstore at the airport. Worst case i have to buy a few bottles Jack Daniels and sell it a little bit cheaper in my homecity :D

HitBTC i did not know before. So i check this out.
Thanks and have a good day!

You're obviously missing something...

Vested Steem no, so just power it down and send it to an exchange?

I think you are missing one point. You can't trade Steem,

=)

that is my point actually; however, I'm being told I'm wrong by others. Not sure?

steem.png

may be transferred anywhere at anytime.

Except when you have them powered up. Then they are not so transferable.

Also I think you proved points A) and C). ;)

You can trade steem. And for free. Not sure what you mean. I've got a tutorial on it here: https://steemit.com/steem/@littlescribe/e5dv5zij

As a creator I get really excited about all the app's being developed that use Steem. (dlive, dtube, utopia, steepshot, etc)

However, then I read articles/comments like this and it really kills my faith in the platform. I know my content is good, yet I find it very difficult to collect consistent rewards. I also have a hard time finding content which I think is deserving of a sufficient reward unless I'm holding a contest. The whole content distillation is great in theory but the trending page is stocked full of sub-par content.

Something's got to give... Neds sitting on $14mil that would be put to better use delegated to deserving members of the community.

I'm not here to kiss asses though. I'm here to create and hope the platform can change other creators lives as it has done mine.

The answer is E. But I think you already knew that.

Steemit Inc clearly does not care about the sad state of this platform, evident by the fact they're fostering and allowing the rampant abuse to continue. Completely ignorant of the fact that a handful of people can't sustain a platform.

We're already seeing some of the higher-power Steemit users planning their exits from Steem. The day of reckoning is going to be upon us soon and when the rapists leave and there are only bruised and battered victims left, things are going to get bad.

This platform is a joke as it currently stands. I hang around because I'm part optimist and naive about things eventually improving.

E) All of the above.
But then again,Crypto adoption is not even started. It is logical to think that Steem did not reach his peak, and can go to the moon, when crypto noobs come with money to invest. In the long run,Steemit will fail, but i think that won't happen any time soon.

Wow, just a moment ago, I was reading that steem was the best crypto purchase ever made by some people and then this. I am totally confused. Which way to go? Helpppppp... I am here for 1 month +, do I stay or do I go?

Baa, baaah, tell me where to go!

LOL

But, seriously. Try not to be so weak. At least try to use your own brain and make a judgment and decision for yourself.

I do not agree with your reason..

Maybe Ned needs support from some kind of team...

The nonexistent portrayal at eminent crypto gatherings, for example, Consensus is maybe characteristic of an absence of ability by Steemit Inc to confront intensive examination from the brightest personalities and most profound pockets in this developing business sector.

The months long quiet from the CEO of this stage shows unimportant commitment with its clients. The inability to genuinely refresh on the formative status of SMTs additionally bears witness to

D

Bernie how does Haejin hide all his transaction history??? its never shown at all ...does he use some kind of hack?

It's a UI issue, the transactions are not hidden, it's just the wallet is buggy and he has an abnormally high amount of operations.

But I do want to point out it has been like this for over 3 months on his wallet...you are saying the UI issue has been there for 3+ months?

Yes

But as you can see, the data isn't missing, it's all on the blockchain, just the wallet UI sucks.

thanks for clarifying ... I am always curious/suspicious of this haejin guy ever since I noticed he upvotes himself from that weird rancho account and then denies its not his etc

THE MONEY THESE SCAMMERS ARE TAKING FROM STEEMIT IS HERE:

@Haejin
https://wallet.bitshares.org/#/account/haejin1970

@RanchoRelaxo
https://wallet.bitshares.org/#/account/ranchorelaxo2017

Over $7 Million Has Been Scammed From These 2 Guys.

If the ranchorelaxo account is haejin, why would he invest over 1 million dollars into it, then wait 6 months to start upvoting himself?

That's a pretty good question actually!

I am really curious about this, he must have discovered some kind of scrypt hack or something?

No, not at all :))

Yes but how did he get it to disappear on steemit.com interface? that has to be a scrypt entry

No, it is not, see the comment of @themarkymark. It is just a bug in the condenser (steemit.com). His transfers are all there :))

ok cool 😁😉

Use steemd to look for his (or anybody else's) transactions :)

I feel like the answer is E: all of the above.

Even as a new user I see some massive flaws in the system.

I really like the concept behind Steemit, but the execution is lacking quite a bit.. and I am sure they don't want to be embarrassed by a group of peers.

Sad to see a team blowing it and wasting something that could have been globally adopted.

I think option (D) is more suitable.

All of the above.

It's not hard for others to view it as a joke. Steem is just a 'steem' circle jerk hype train for 7/10 trending post. then 2/10 are drama post then the remaining 1/10 is Adsactly or some bullshit spamming content with half it being non-original and images taken off google.

BECAUSE STEEM IS MOSTY FREE.
So none of the above.

I mean why give something attention that everyone will flock to? Hm?

I dont know anything
I know one thing
Steem is the best

Unfortunately, all of the above! Steem has great potential but that potential is being wasted. Nothing, is happening which can encourage people to opt this crypto as a currency. It has become a tool for only a few to rape the reward pool and sell that amount without caring for this platform.

I like to think now that Steem has shown to have potential. And shown how not to build the community around it.
You can only have a stable economy if the biggest problems are addressed right from the beginning.

Every great effort suffers from corrupt and greedy people and ignorant common persons. On this platform some corrupt and selfish people are earning huge profit by buying votes while ignorant people are following and upvoting them without realizing that their act only increases those selfish people' earning.

E) All of the above.

Bonus: he literally has no idea what he is doing.

Hello my dear friend @berniesanders your Post very amazing.
@haejin is a bad man and @haejin Post very bad.
@haejin all Post read signal for @rzaman
My all comments flag for @haejin and haejin friends...
Please help me my dear friend...

Im also going with E, while they may not all be direct reasons i think they are all legitimate reasons why Steem just pulls radio silence when it comes to any above the line media exposure

The question is, if steemit is so bad( i don't dissagree but since im here) what are you doing here? This is not provocation, just asking...

Shitcoins can still be profitable, right?

I know what you mean and i understand your concerns, no matter you using the "berniesanders" format to express it. :D
The downfalls are pretty obvious. What i dont understand is why there doesnt seem to be a way to fix it. My knowledge on the technical aspect is very limited but wouldnt a hard fork fix this?
Is it that they dont want to fix it, dont know how to fix it, or dont know what to fix?
The problems arent deep of hard to understand, but rather surface level and obvious to the simplest of layman.
SMTs coming out promise to fix a few things, redistribute wealth in a more effective way between the users. Now how that would work i cant say, but seriously, if SMTs turn to be a fluke i cant say how long Steemit will survive.
Curie atm being one of the only projects that work to redistribute some wealth between unrewarded users, and thats miniscule compared to the abuse thats going on.

I guess, if you strike a good bidbot lel

They are for @Haejin because he Pumps & Dumps them each month from #Steemit. That is his MASTER SCAM.

A whale telling it how it is..

Tell us what we should be holding in your opinion?

I go for D.

How does this post get so many $$$ upvotes??

Upvote bots

hm, seems to be the thing to do...?

Because Bernie has multiple accounts and he upvotes his own post all the time with alt accounts.

Aaaaaha.... don't they all do that. Just watched a few vids on that today... :-p Seems the thing to do right now...

Steem is a stable coin like bitcoin

C) It’s easier to sell Steem to those who don’t and never will understand its significant flaws and lack of leadership/development.

I think it's B, C and D.

sir i think you are missing something..............

That question is good. I wonder about that too now that you asked it. I hope the answer is to the benefit of all.

option F... lol... which u r thinkin now

In my little understanding, i think all options are geared towards the same possible reason why your question may be valid.

Really never thought about this before. Good oversight @berniesanders

At least Appics goes to conferences...

Wait... what did the money from Appics ICO go toward? Development? Or sending founders on a World Tour to drink champagne and take cute pictures of themselves having a great time?

Appics had no real answers for my questions the first time I bothered to read their whitepaper and I saw them shilling, so I can only assume the latter. Oh, and I looked into that Chinese social media thing on EOS you were talking about in another post, and I'm not too sure how hyped anyone should be about it considering they're only giving 5 per year compared to the 75 stack they're giving themselves at the start for themselves and their buddies, that's 15 or so years for the non-team equity to be matched by everyone else, lol. Might still beat steem's timeline though rofl.
