Introducing Promoted Content

in #steemit8 years ago

It is time we closed the loop on the Steem economy and provide another answer to an age old question, “where does the money come from?” Starting today authors, advertisers, and evangelists can promote content to be discovered by more readers.

We are pleased to announce a “Promoted Content” section that will soon be available right next to trending and hot. This section sorts articles based upon which articles have received the most Steem Dollars from users.

How does it work?

Anyone can transfer Steem Dollars to @null and include the @author/permlink they would like to promote in the memo. The Steem Dollars will be added to the total received by the post and increase its ranking in the promoted content ordering. steemit.com will provide a helpful button at the bottom of each article that allows anyone to simply enter an amount and promote the content without worrying about filling out a transfer form.

Who gets the Money?

The @null account is a special account which no one has control over. This means that once money is transferred to @null it is locked away for ever. In a future hard fork we will remove the Steem Dollars, Steem, and Steem Power held by this account from the supply, but until then it is effectively gone.

This means the money is distributed to all stakeholders. Since all payments are made in Steem Dollars and Steem Dollars are similar to the debt of the network, it means all payments made to promote posts serve to reduce the debt load on Steem which increases the value of Steem.

Why view Promoted Content?

When someone promotes content they are attempting to advertise their content. This means they expect a return on investment. There are two ways they can get this return: directly by receiving votes or indirectly by selling another product, service, or idea.

In other words, this content is self-curated in a way that can help readers discover new authors that believe in themselves enough to invest in their own content and build an audience. When you view this section of steemit.com you will discover a different cross section of content.

The more people that read, vote, and follow users who promote their content the more people will be willing to spend to promote content. The more people spend, then more Steem grows in value. In other words, simply visiting the promoted content page and reading promoted articles helps boost capital flowing into the platform.

Should I vote on Promoted Content?

You should only vote on promoted content if you would normally vote for it.

Just because someone promoted it doesn’t mean it deserves a vote. If promoted content starts to consistently earn more from votes than it costs to promote, then the market will respond by increasing the cost of promoting content. This cycle will continue until the risk / reward of promoting content balances out. In other words, the market will naturally push all profit margins toward 0.

Should I flag promoted content?

Posts that are heavily flagged will not show up in the promoted content list. This means that the community can and should filter the garbage from the promoted content. If you believe the promoted content to be “over paid”, “abusive”, “copyright infringing”, or otherwise “garbage” then you should flag it.

When someone pays to promote content they are paying for voter attention, but they are not promised positive attention. If they get negative attention then their investment in promoting their article will be worthless. It is the possibility of negative attention leading to filtering that keeps the promoted content free from spam advertisements.

If the community adopts a policy of flagging and “removing” legitimate promoted content from the queue then it will reduce the price people are willing to pay to promote their content. Worst case, it could cause people to avoid promoting content all together.

Do votes impact promoted ranking?

Unless a post receives more down votes than up votes the number of votes will have no impact on its ranking in the promoted section.

How long is promoted content displayed?

A promoted post is displayed until its first payout. After that time it will no longer be listed on the promoted page index.

Steemit, Inc Disclaimer

The @null account is a special blockchain level account and does not belong to Steemit, Inc or any other individual. Sending money to @null does not constitute a contract between you and anyone else. Steemit, Inc can and will change how it chooses to display, filter, and sort posts in the promoted section at its sole discretion.

Enjoy!

This experiment should be a fun opportunity for the community to test the market demand for paid promotion. Its relevance depends upon the attention the Steem community voluntarily gives to promoted content. If successful it could create a virtuous cycle that benefits everyone involved. If it turns out to not be a valuable feature, then we will have all learned something!

This is a great idea.

I would modify this same idea and create the ability for people to pay SBD to boost regular posts too.

For example say my vote only holds 0.01 SBD per upvote - I see a mind blowing post that I think deserves more say $10 - give me the ability to pay $10 to the post earnings (not the user wallet) to "boost my vote"

  • I think that would be another feature that I would use.

I'm mixed about this solution after trying it out just now. I want to transfer my funds directly to a post. That would make happiness abound...

Glad to you see you happier with STEEMIT @stellabelle
Your happiness and this new idea might be why the price of STEEM bottomed and bounced up.
full $teem ahead!
@streetstyle

I'm always happy inside! It's what others do that I am temporarily unhappy with. Happiness is a normal state of mind, but I'm not going to sugarcoat reality. Fearing the dry whale teat is not an option.

@stellabelle I've tested it out on my last post - it doesn't actually add to the actual SBD for the post.

It seems you can use it on any post and it will show up in the "Promoted" section. I would like a means that allows me to do the same with a kind of boosted vote so I can truly "vote like a whale" as you say. Right now these posts are treated as an exception (if I'm understanding correctly). It's still a great idea though.

One reason to do it this way may be to prevent people from spending a huge amount on their post to get it promoted and then receiving that money back - although to be fair anyone who votes on their own post already does that anyway if they are a whale.

If the devs are smart, they will tap into the minnow and dolphins' desire to VOTE LIKE A WHALE with their own money. It's a powerful feeling to be able to instantly transfer money to a post with your own SBD. This is a no brainer actually. Burning SBD is not tapping into HUMAN DESIRES.

How do you propose they would go about doing this? If sending SBD for promotion was just added to the payout, everyone would just pay themselves as much as they could to promote their posts, getting almost all of it back.

Maybe I misunderstood your comment, but no brainers on this type of platform are usually trickier than we might expect.

Cool gif by the way.

Edit- Nvm, just read your discussion with dan below.

It's tipping that actually works

This idea has a huge hole in that a whale can then promote themselves at no cost. Minnows could vote like whales, but their boosted votes won't ever increase the visibility of the post. You might as well transfer to the author to tip them at that point.

Burning Steem Dollars guarantees there is a cost, which is key to preventing abuse.

Problem here @stellabelle is the minnows do not have SBD ... hence they are minnows. Unless I am missing something...which is not to unlikely :)

I think you can use it for any post.

You can but it will only go in the Promoted section as I understand it. I was thinking of paying into raising the profile the old way if that makes sense. So it is like supercharging your vote temporarily and rises through the ranks of trending etc.

I've sent some SBD to the @null account as a test to see how it works.

I love that idea. Many dolphin curators who complain that their votes aren't powerful enough might try that.

check your wallet! Instead of burning my SBD, I just transferred 32.311 to you, as that was the amount I wanted to upvote your last post for. Since you are a Power Up type of person, I feel that this move is in Steemit's best interest also, but I WANTED YOU TO GET THE REWARDS, not the whales.

NO, do whatever you want with it. I had just read your article where you had a goal of doubling your Steem Power from 4000 to 8000, but feel free to do whatever you want. It's yours. I've been meaning also to tip your for all your amazing comments! You're standing out for so many reasons, so you deserve every Steem cent.

OK. Thank you. If you want me to power up I will use it to power up then:)

Hi, can you also be willing to share some to raise my rep too? I have been languishing for over a month here in Steemit dishing out posts that never gain more than a dollar's worth even though 2 or 3 of those posts, I swear, have value somehow. It is very difficult being a minnow here in the Ocean Planet of Steem. I hope to reciprocate what you did for others if I ever get to be lucky.

@thecryptofiend: I like your idea and think it's a really good one. I think we all should have the ability to pay more for posts we really like and have it show up in the normal hot and trending pages.

Wish there were more folks like you stellebelle. Going to promote my content because for some reason I post at the wrong times, it's perfect content.

Thanks - Yes I actually suggested it in one of my earlier posts I think.

Best suggestion ever @thecryptofiend!
That's a brilliant idea. I have encountered so many posts that I wish I could give some cold hard SBD's.

That $10 doesn't go to the author though.

bagus saya sangat suka postingan anda

Ok, so I just attempted to do a promote this post and one main issue I have is this: I want to pay the author not the shareholders. I think this is not a good thing after all, as I don't want my hard-earned SBD's burned. That is not a good feeling at all actually. Is there any way to add our SBD's to a post, in such a way that we can boost the post with our own money? That's what I'd like to see implemented.

Author gets more attention thus gets paid indirectly. You can tip author easily via transfer.

burning SBD is not a deeply gratifying experience and it doesn't tap into human desires.

perhaps a dividend on Steem Power would work better ;)

In any case, the reason we cannot just tip authors and use total tips as a ranking is because it would be abused by people tipping themselves via sock puppets.

Oh, I see. Good point, sometimes I forget about all the abusers. How would the dividend on SP work? I'd love to transfer SP to others like @thecryptofiend who are amazing commenters, big value users....

what exchange rate would be used if something like this would be implemented?
Would't something like this allow a skipping of the one week SBD to Steem standard process?
I guess not if you mark that dividend exchange for 1 week after the transaction is submitted

Also, I'm seeing the promote button when looking at standalone comment pages. Is that meant to be?
https://steemit.com/tag/@anduweb/re-jesta-psa-don-t-use-the-promote-post-feature-on-a-post-that-s-already-paid-out-20160830t134421007z

I'd love to transfer SP to others like @thecryptofiend who are amazing commenters, big value users

You can do exactly that. Choose "Power Up" in the wallet, then "Advanced". You can then specify who you want to power up. Be careful there is no "undo".

I think she want to transfer their SP to others which is not possible

dan, sort of on a side note, have you seen your latest breakdancing video? I had nothing to do with its production....I found it via @tuck-fheman on yogi.artist's post

If only the author recieved the SBD from promotion and not the shareholders, couldn't anyone promote their own content at no cost since they'd recieve everything they put into it?

Good question!!!

Excellent execution, so the way i understand it, a user burns steem dollars to null account to promote their post only on the promoted section, according to how much they pay for it, then it is free to be organically upvoted from there and rank on other pages. So it is never embedded in any kind of sidebar, and is completely unobtrusive to those who don't want to see it.
Would there be a transparent notice that a post has been promoted on the post itself if it ranks up through the trending page? And would the poster be able to add additional steem dollars to their post after the first injection, to try and outbid other posts for the top spot?
If this works well, it will massively increase the demand for steem based dollars, and reduce their supply, driving their value up.

anyone can promote any article at any time. The sum of all promotions determines the rank.

When you look at the payout estimate it displays "Boost Payments" (should probably be re-worded) so anyone inspecting the payout for a post can know how much paid promotion it got.

what about "Promotion Fees" for "Boost Payments"?

or Boost Promotion Fees ?

anyone can promote any article at any time.

I've send a 15 SBD to try a new feature

And it didn't work out for me!

money's gone tho

Why did you not test with 0.001?

Is it makes any difference?
It's not about money for me

There now needs to be a separation of the downvote and flagging system. Even more so now than before, post values can be inflated by promoters and then the post will get flagged, losing reputation in the process, for not being worth that amount.

A promoted post is displayed until its first payout. After that time it will no longer be listed on the promoted page index.

So why is the "promote" button still available to older posts? (posts that paid out one time but are not older than 4 weeks) That would drive user's to burn SBDs on older posts without benefit! (I was ready to promote one of my older posts to give it a second change!) BTW why not include posts that have paid once? Many would like to give a second chance to older posts and it would stream new money to steem !!!

@dantheman There's a glitch in this where it tells the user that they can't use their active password on that page and it appears that the transfer did not go through. This caused me to issue a "Promote" twice, since it appeared that it did not go through the first time. =/

One interesting question. Assuming I have submitted a link with a smaller SBD amount what happens if I send the same link with more SBD to @null? Will it just take the new SBD transfer and overwrite the old one or it will add the SBD sent to the amount previously sent ? Or maybe the second transfer with the same link will be completely ignored by the system at the moment?

It will add to the post and push it up the ranking.

Ok, thanks for clearing this out. Maybe that information should also be added to the post.

Bring on the big money!woo this is good for everyone!

not sure how I feel about this. I am trying to get my head around it. Could there another post explaining the origination of this idea? For example, what made this come about?

People have been sending me spam transfers just to look at their posts. This gives a better outlet to serve a market need. Also, this is the ad model of reddit.

This is better than the ad model of reddit Dan, at reddit you pay the company to place sidebar links, which are separated from the main content and shown to all users. With this system, advertisers pay the entire steem platform by burning steem dollars, and get featured on thier own queue, which users can choose to view, or not, and upvote these posts by quality just as a normal post, but with a headstart of visibility.

This is really excellent news! I yesterday asked if someone knew what was in the pipeline... nobody knew anything... :)
I am curious if there are more things like this in the works! Perhaps the price recovered today a bit because of this announcement?? I hope people will burn a lot... ;)

I have seen that @dantheman . People send anywhere from mirco-SBD or STEEM and more asking for Dan to check out there "New Post." So this should serve the community well but I don't think it will keep you from receiving "bribes" @dantheman .
full $teem ahead!
@streetstyle

There should be a decrease in the use of bribes though. Those bribes just show people are willing to pay to promote their posts. But spreading 1 tenth of a cent as far as you can doesn't get any interest from the lucky winners of that tenth of a cent! This is a much better platform for people who are willing to pay because far more people can see their post (not just the handful of people they bribed).

true that @beanz but there are a lot of newbs and hard heads out there.

Awesome enhancement!!

I think I found a glitch though.

How long is promoted content displayed?
A promoted post is displayed until its first payout. After that time it will no longer be listed on the promoted page index.

I was not aware of this until I read this post. As soon as I saw the "promote" feature when I got home, I spent some SBD to promote 2 of my posts that had past the 24 hour payout and were on to the 30 day payment window. They are now showing on the promoted page.

I'm not sure what happens now. Will they sit there for 30 days? Should this have even been allowed? Based on the description, it seems like this should not have been allowed for a post that had past the 24 hour payout window.

[Edit] There is a post about the glitch here.

I suppose the way round it would be to have everything on the Promoted page until the 31 days are up. It may well be how it works now since your posts showed up.

This is an interesting feature, we'll have to see how this experiment pans out. Reddit never got me to post or comment, just lurk. I only made an account there in july so I could join Steemit, and I find their ad model uninspired, from a digital ad ops professional's perspective. But if the goal is to make a general dolphins/whales feed to promote the talented who may not be getting recognized, it could work. We'll have to see how the community games it?

Aside from monetary ways of increasing value to the platform, a useful and valuable feature would be allowing us to prevent individuals from spam transferring us. I'm very against censorship in the world, but I think the option to censor our wallets from spammers is a legitimate form of censorship that does not infringe on anyone's rights and is the digital equivalent of closing a door on a salesperson. I think everyone on Steemit got that one spam transfer about flying a balloon around the world

Hey I least you do see the spam* Steemdollars they send you, so I think its a great move!

Thanks for the elaboration. I was a bit hesitant when I first read this post, but after thinking about it some, it's actually a brilliant way for people to promote their posts as well as increase the value of SP/STEEM/SBD. Thanks for sharing! I'm excited to see where this new opportunity leads Steemit! :)

Ok, I can clearly see that. Good points.

" Also, this is the ad model of reddit." I loled :)

This is an interesting idea @dantheman, I will try and see how it works!

If memory serves me right, in a similar form, this idea has been proposed by an average-powered user more than a month ago (I'll never find the post again, please forgive). Glad to see it implemented.

I suggested something similar a while back but I'm sure someone else probably thought of it too.

Can this be done for Liquid Steem?

You can exchange your liquid Steem for SBD on the market :)

Right. SBD makes more sense because promoted posts compete agianst each other. You want a stable value. Imagine you could promote a post with STEEM and then the market value of STEEM drops 20%. Someone else can outbid you while paying less.

Im more inclined at looking at it as a burn mechanism due to the high inflation.

Burning SBD is essentially the same as burning STEEM, because it reduces the amount of STEEM that can, and very likely will in the current environment, be created by converting the SBD to STEEM. Essentially the burn comes out of virtual supply rather than current supply, but it still happens.

Excellent point.

Ahhhhh now I remeber why I kept buying steem while the price was tanking.

Great great job. I love how you guys keep innovating. Keep doing that and this site will be unstoppable .

Now, some feedback:

  1. This is exactly what is needed. Money flowing into the ecosystem without diluting from stakeholders.

  2. I don't like that the money is burned. I believe what makes the ecosystem strong and valuable is the exchange of value for content. As such it's important that this money is circulated in a fashion that attracts more content. This might be easier said and done but burning the money is wasting potential in my opinion.

Wouldn't it be easier for advertisers to by steem in the normal way, power up say a Coca-Cola account, and then upvote anything Coca-Cola? Sure the initial upfront costs might be higher, but they can then continue upvoting their stuff adinfinitum, and the stuff would be in the main channels, including the front page.

Now they have 2 options! This system rocks!
Pick up your favorite method to advertise your stuff !!!

Anyone can transfer Steem Dollars to @null and include the @author/permlink they would like to promote in the memo. The Steem Dollars will be added to the total received by the post and increase its ranking in the promoted content ordering.

I don't get this, if @null assets are frozen and removed later from ecosystem, how can they be added to "total received by the post". If this is only earnings displaying tricks (you see 10$, 9$ earned + 1 $boosted, but you earned 9$ only?), it will confuse many users and make them feel scammed I think.

Well, it is good to have that option available, even though I'm not a big fan of that idea in general. It seems that we'll need to actually pay to promote our good posts now in order for more people to see them. Will try that to see if it will actually make any difference, when it becomes available, as currently I'm getting a bit discouraged when writing good posts in topics that deviate from the popular ones...

If it really is a good post that just isn't getting enough attention, then this system should certainly help. Should be interesting to watch prices evolve.

exactly what about muted accounts? will they still show up on promoted?

good question.....

That is why I've said I'll give it a try even though I'm not a big fan of the idea.

I like the idea that the spent SBD will actually get burned, so it will essentially provide additional usability for them as well as reduce the supply available if the feature catches on.

Spending $1M dollars to get influence to boost a single post is not smart. Paying $100 dollars to promote a single post is much more economical.

The only reason to buy Steem Power is for Long Term continuous promotion and/or speculation. It just isn't a compelling sale to advertisers. Also, think of the minnow author who wants to get discovered, he can pay $100 once on a really good article and build up some followers.

For many minnows that $100 is a stretch, unless you pay cash money for steemdollars to start with... You'd have to really back yourself if that's all the steemdollars you had, that's for sure.

yeah, the chart data doesn't look very good.....

It´s a good idea but if you are from a part of the world were $100 US equals to 2 or 4 weeks of a regular salary......I don´t think it would make a difference (especially if you are just starting out in the platform).

I'd guess that an ad agency would be much more inclined to "rent" Steem Power from a whale (that is, directly pay for upvotes) than to buy their own SP. Now, they can cut out the whale middle-man. As a bonus, the promotion now becomes totally transparent.

@cryptos but also don't forget this is still an "infant" in terms of its life as a social media platform. With time, there will be more diversity and more topics with more audiences for those topics. All in Due Time. But it is happening. I see IT!
full $teem ahead!

This is AWESOME! I LIKE IT. Only thing I ask is "Can I get a Flag for my UNDERPAID posts?" j/k
full $teem ahead!
@streetstyle

@steemitblog So I just went to check out the @Null account on STEEMIT.COM and NADA! So I see all the info. goes to the Blockchain through STEEMD.COM.

  1. Things:
I don't like the name @null I know I suck but I think something more relevant for future maybe something @STEEMADS or @ADVERTS or @Promos
Maybe These post can somehow be shown as @null 's blog so they also come up on steemit.com
Three, Maybe the @null homepage can somehow be redirected or customized specifically for this account where it places "Blogs/Ads" in different positions of the page based on the amount paid, since I see many sending varying amounts to @null . These should be Hyperlinked to the original poster's blog so the up votes go directly to the Advertiser/blogger .
    My 2 Cents

@null was the name of an existing account that has never had an owner. We can change the account in the future, but most people will not need to look at transfer history.

As a toy example, if I promote my own post, I get all of my promotion payment back (in SP and SBD) except the part that's paid to curators? So effectively, promoting is like directly (but partially) powering up SBD?

No. You get none. It is all burned.

Right, that makes more sense. I was wondering what wizardry would let you add it to the post's payout without a hard fork.

This is the sentence that threw me:

The Steem Dollars will be added to the total received by the post and increase its ranking in the promoted content ordering.

You just mean "received for promotional purposes." I get it now.

Good! Promoted as well but does not show (yet)

I think its a terrible idea. The whales will promote with all the SBD they have......... Thanks steemit my content will be more buried....

We still don't know how effective promoting posts will be. Say they spend 100 dollars promoting a post that makes 800. Who's to say it wouldn't have made that money anyway? We don't yet have any metrics reporting these things.

And promoted posts are not "targeted", so by internet standards, they are already an archaic form of advertising.

Also, every time a post is promoted, the value of STEEM goes UP.

@steemitblog
The promoted content thing is great! I've been using it on my last 2 posts!

https://steemit.com/science/@williambanks/seti-has-observed-a-strong-signal-that-may-originate-from-a-sun-like-star-or-it-may-be-bs

https://steemit.com/science/@williambanks/blockchain-technology-and-human-genetics

Seems like a great way to get a ton of minnow votes, especially if some of you whales with massive minnow bot followings can pop in and drop a vote too.

I immediately attempted to Promote my latest Pool Meeting to have first-mover advantage and test out this new concept. It pulled the Steem Dollar from my wallet but nothing is showing up on the promoted page? Is it working? Thank you.

@steemitblog
I think you can read my second post here, about how it would look pretty fair to all the people here could promote their posts even though they have to pay a little for it, at least there are other reasons why everyone should buy steem, steempower or steemdollar

Give me a smart reasons why you should buy STEEM?
Review posts about Steem Dollar Stability Supplement

Good idea. It will be interesting to see how this experiment plays out. I'm flirting with the idea of donating a portion (say 25%) of Steem Dollars earned on my posts towards the paid promotion of other people's undiscovered posts.

that's what I like about steemit: every new features/rules are exciting experiments and users use their creativity to explore new possibilities upon them... both levels are important and complement each other.

You want to invite big corporations to come in and drop thousands of dollars into the Steem market and start blasting the top trending spot with ads for condoms?

Although I do think this is a pretty damn neat idea and it does help combat others profiting from others work under the guise of help I can't help but think that unless this has been in the development pipeline for a while and all possible angles have been addressed this could end up maybe being too hasty of an implementation..

How long before some eccentric billionaire comes on here and subjects us to an entire trending page of goatse and getting rick rolled? Or before we see automobile manifacturers plastering our trending page with their latest and greatest sets of wheels..

Pandoras box got opened I think... I'm really interested to see how this all ends up working out. Tons of positives here but also invites some pretty devious stuff and the possibility of ending up like facebook where every other post is some sponsored bullshit I don't want to see.

The trending page and promoted page are different. Even if someone pays tons to promote a post, it will not change how trending it is unless it starts getting lots of upvotes. It would just show up high on the promoted page.

I am sad to see active disappear. That was my favorite curation location .

It will be back, its removal was unintentional. Popular will be gone and active back.

I was wondering what popular was...

This solution reminds me of something ... AMP?

OK, let's give it a try. Good luck to everybody investing into their posts!

You can tell from our git commit history that we have been working on this concept long before the flood of AMP articles today.

Cool. I believe you and I won't go digging into the git :)

I am not saying who's idea was first. let's just wait and see how will it turn out here. Hope it works.

BTW: how about the idea that - let's say - every fifth post on any listing page / tag / topic is randomly picked from the pool of posts that are overlooked by the big voters. I would define 'overlooked' as less than X $ in last Y hours...

I'm not sure if its an idea that originated with @arcurus, but in one of his posts he mentions a possible lottery style front page, in which a post's payout would be proportional to its odds of being selected to be on the front page. This still makes highly popular posts appear on the front page, but also gives more visibility to overlooked posts. If you make it so that everyone's front page is different (and changes every time they reload the page), that solution provides more visibility in a way that scales up with the number of users.

No, it is my original idea.

Yes, something like this. The task is - find a way to systematically /randomly)display the overlooked post on a front page(s).

Here are some suggestions for the field Label name as Boosts Payments sounds a bit weird
https://steemit.com/post-promotion/@anduweb/sip-post-promotion-label-suggestions-instead-of-boosts-payments

The Steem Dollars will be added to the total received by the post

Does this mean you will effectively lose nothing for promoting your own content?
If so, that would contradict:

In other words, this content is self-curated in a way that can help readers discover new authors that believe in themselves enough to invest in their own content and build an audience.

Then there would be no real reason left to view this promoted content.

Total promotion payments received by the post, not total author rewards. Author does not get the boost payments.

I see, thanks for clarifying. I think it would be a good idea to edit that it to the post, because it might confuse some people. People could accidently promote their content thinking they would get it back.

Yeah, I was going to ask the same thing. I was reading through the comments for clarification because this seemed the only logical way for it to work - show on the post total, but not be paid to the author - but it is ambiguous in the OP.

Great work guys, this is a great solution - transparent and benefits the whole community!

To test it out I just threw $0.1 SBD in the hat to promote the latest @steemleak weekly digest post , it deserves mores imho but its all I can afford. I make nothing from @steemleak so paid promotion is a hard sell - do any supporters want to add to it ?

"Promoted content is displayed until its first payout"

Until the first payout after paid promotion?
If I were to pay to promote an older post in its 30 day payout window, do I get 30 days of promotion, or 0 ?

apparently that was an error, you can promote any post until it is archived (after 30 days).

Why developers decide use SDB instead STEEM tokens to use promotional tools?
Spending STEEM tokens for this looks better for the Steemit system because it will help keep price from a falling down.

How about a most votes feed? Or under $5 feed.

the under $5 feed could be sorted in descending order . This would help curators find missed posts.

Promotion helps elevate post once found but doesn't help find hidden post.

Good idea.

What is the "lag" before the post shows up on the Popular section after the transfer is made?

Thanks.

It should be instant once the steemd instances at steemit.com have finished their reindex.

According to https://steemit.com/@null/transfers there are some as long as 16 minutes ago.

How long does the reindex take? I don't know what that is or how much time is involved.

Thanks for answering. Appreciated.

Should be up within the hour if nothing goes wrong.

Super. Thanks!

Awesome feature! Thank you very much for implementing it. And thank you very much for the upvote. I will use this feature again to get my content to reach more people.

Take care. Peace

I should say this really looks like a really great idea! I still have some doubts though, what will happen to promoted posts outside the promoted area? I mean could they still appear in the trending area if they become trendy after they were promoted? Also, in the tranding area, will the payout number include the amount used to promote the post or just the amount generated by votes? Can you promote a singlr post several times? I mean can you send money several times to the @null account for the same post? Overall I think this is really a good idea, though I thought promoted posts would appear in a different way, like a big brand creating an account, powering up a lot and using its votes to promote content. Also not sure if this would help cause now you have a way to have power in the platform without powering up, with just a single investment instead of a long term one, though this investment will be lost, something to think about definetly.

I just promoted one of my blogs unfortunately it seems to have zero impact on it. This is the content I wanted to promote: https://steemit.com/travel/@mallorca/impressions-from-mallorca-01-llucmayor-2nd-attempt
I paid 2 Steem Dollars, is it too low or what is the reason ? Is this function only interesting for whales ?

I have made a promotion post for the promotion post :D hope it will make some of my followers to read this article:

This is so much better than what has taken over the trending page.

I am going to out out on a limb and say while I love the thought a system like Steemit there is seems to be a challenge to market your work to others. This is a step in the right direction. Though I think that a better syndication model need to be put in place to make this platform keep content providers. You really have to comb threw the weeds on this system to find opportunity unless you are already a made person. I am not down on whales in fact I wan't everyone to prosper. Give us the tools to find our market. Don't just have a market be a market maker.

People are building tools and who ever can find the best solution for filtering content will win many users. The blockchain is open so there can and will be many experiments on promoting content.

Yes there are people building tools. People like @jesta and others are doing some good work. I appreciate the fact that it is an open blockchain. It is interesting to see efforts by various people and groups to build promotion on this system as it. The RobinHoodWhale effort and dragonslayer have taken up an effort to create pool type features on selected authors works though there model is a little different they are both starting to use the existing system to do it. So others are recognizing the need this is a good thing. I would just think that the backers of Steem would have a vested interest at helping content find value. Doen't it raise everybody's fortune?

It really isn't worth the trouble to try to find new quality content providers if you're a minnow with not much time. It's time consuming job that lacks the reward.

This point is one that I believe will have a dynamic impact on the drive to critical mass for the platform. Once talented devs start to become aware of the rewards possible, the creative output should explode. I find this most fascinating...!! You have created a "monster"....but I guess you know that already!

Will there also be filters on steemd.com?

I would love to do this to my brother post. He has put a lot of effort in one post
@pgarcgo

What is the rate? for example what we get for 1 SBD

It is auction style. Look on promotion page for current prices.

you publish and you pay for it)

So by destroying steem dollars you are increasing the value of the steem dollars in circulation.
This is getting more confusing. A site that creates money, but then destroys money? What's it for, to increase the velocity of steem dollars in circulation?

This is great and will help contribute to pegging the steem dollar, keep up the great work!

I think its a great idea. but the more people start to pay for their links to be displayed, the less visible links will get.
And it is not working, would love to see how many people will send money to this acocunt.

just send 1$ to try it out

The issue of Spam to the "whales" for promotion and mainlining steemit in regards to promotion are two issues(of many) that needs to be addressed. Will be interesting to see how this solution works. FYI all...I am not complaining about the issues on steemit right now. This platform is an evolving mechanism in the realm of social media that no one has tried. Very happy to see the quickness in which many issues are being addressed! Let the experiment continue! It's going to be mainstream one day!
