San Diego Steemit Meetup on March 4th

Lots of Pictures

We all know that pictures are worth a thousand words, right? Let's hope so because I am about to show you a whole bunch of them. We had so much fun at the first San Diego Meetup that it is hard to choose which pictures NOT to show you.

So, let's start with the sign.

Here I am at the rock I had designated as the meeting point. The sign turned out pretty good thanks to my daughter in law's magical letter cutting machine and is now gifted to the SoCalSteemit meetup team.

Here is a fun fact about the rock.

rock flag.jpg

Can you read it? Yes, it was the place where the first US flag was raised - and now - drumroll please....

The First Steemit "Flag"

Well, a flag of sorts and maybe the first in San Diego. But I thought it was funny.

first arrival.jpg

While I was waiting at the rock for new arrivals, the table was set and people started to get to know each other.

eyedreemit.jpg

Here is @eyedreemit with her husband @marctwang. I was especially excited to meet her since she is one of the freewriters!! Check us out someday if you have time #freewrite

mad & C.jpg

I like this picture because you can see that people were really talking to each other. Lots of hand movements!!

matt arrived.jpg

The one in the red jacket is @mattlovell. He and @creationofcare came from San Bernadino and were stuck in the same traffic jam that turned @csusgeochem's 2-hour trip into a 3-hour ordeal. But they all made it!! Yay!

old friends.jpg

While Matt was filling in the name tags and an attendance sheet, Cat (@creationofcare) and Scott (@dawg-boy) were so happy to see each other again.

photos.jpg

Lots and lots of photos were taken, including photos of people - in this case, @dennisauburn - taking photos. The war of the cameras was on!!!

I had to include this picture for two reasons.

Reason number one is our four-legged friend who entertained us by running off, hiding under the table or under the blankets and we played the game: Find the wiener dog. It was fun and he is such a cutie.

The second reason is this. Look at the footwear of Scott. It was a cold day and most of us were freezing. But here he is, barefoot with sandals - and a sweater. That is so typical for California!!

Here is what the rest of us looked like

cold2.jpg

@thisgirl took the blanket we had brought to sit on and Jill-Joy was smart and brought a warm jacket. She just got her Steemit account approved that day and couldn't remember her Steemit name.

Her, @gvkanten and @jeanlucsr joined us from Suriname!!! How cool is that! All three attended a Social Media Marketing conference in San Diego and made it a point to join us before flying off to Miami and San Francisco.

group 3.jpg

Finally, a group photo of all of us!!! We got a person wandering by to take our picture. What we didn't do is pick a good spot to line up. Some faces are hidden in the shade. Sorry about that.

back row: @citizenzero @bxlphabet @jeanlucsr @gvkanten @dennisauburn
middle row: @marctwang @eyedreemit @mariannewest @(it is Jill-joy, we don't know her steemit name yet) @madpotters @thisgirl

Some Tips to Create a Successful Meetup

Planning

  • Make several posts about what you want to do and use your city as a tag
  • Check your local Meetup listings and see if there is a meetup around crypto already happening and see if you can add to it.
  • As you make friends on Steemit and you find out that people are from your area, ask them if they are interested in an in-person meetup.
*Create a spreadsheet and add their names to it if they are.
  • When you create your meetup post, tag all of them and leave a comment on one of their recent posts with the information.
  • Ask them to help you spread the word.
  • Check in your discord groups if someone is from your area.
  • Create a discord group with the purpose to create in person meetups.

Location and Set up

  • Find a public park or location that is central and can be easily reached by public transportation.
  • Some groups meet in restaurants. If you choose that option, make sure there are choices available for all income levels.
  • If you are meeting in a park - include a clear description of the meeting place.
  • Make a sign and post it in a visible spot.
  • Offer participants to DM your phone number so they can call you if they can't find the location.
  • Bring some food - it always helps to break the ice.
  • Have a sign in sheet so people can stay connected. Ask if they want to meet again.
  • Have nametags and ask people to put their Steemit name and their real name - if they want to.
  • If people don't know each other, do an introduction round. Everyone gets some time to talk about themsleves and themselves on Steemit.
  • Take lots of pictures

After the Meetup

  • Create a way for participants to stay connected:
  • Make a post with everyone's name and with pictures of the meetup.
  • If you have a discord group - upload pictures for everyone to use to make their own posts.
  • After a couple of days, create a post highlighting the meetup posts of the people who came.
  • Set a date for the next meetup as soon as possible.
  • Stay connected.

And it might help if you bribe participants with a gift of organic eggs from your chickens 😂

Afteer seeing thease pictures i begin to regret being away please keep me informed i want to attened an event

Yes. I was wondering what happened to you. We will have another one soon for sure. Right now, I am thinking once a month - we shall see. Also keep June 6 in mind. We have an out of town Steemian coming to a conference who wants to meet up. That would be an evening meetup in Coronado somewhere.

Well done. No brawls and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. Musicians, artists, herb growers, scientists and well, a number of different interests and walks of life were there. See y'all next time. :-))

Hope to see you soon :)

This is great, well done!

Thank you!!

Well, it certainly looks like everyone was having a great time! 👍

We did - even though it was cold. By the end, we were all ready to go because we were freezing lol

Great tips. A couple of us are thinking of a meet here this summer. It looks like alot of fun!

It is a lot of fun and leads to deeper connections - even in the online world. If I can help, let me know :)

Such a wonderful day to meet everyone. Thank you @mariannewest!

and it was great to meet you and your husband!! Mine wants to know if you all want to meet at the Harp festival on the 31st?

We talked about the harp fest and will try to make it-- depends on timing and locale of family commitments that day. I'll let you know as soon as we are sure.

It is so good to put faces with names I love you guys, @mariannewest you are awesome.

Thank you so much!!!

Looks like a whole lot of fun. I do love that hand picture, looks like an action photo, even if in 'still'. I enjoyed our meet up, and look forward to more in the future. Such a fun part of Steemit. Actually meeting the folks you chat with.

It really is fun. Going to look and see if you posted about your meetup :)

What fun! Congrats on a successful meetup!

Thank you so much. It really was fun!! And I have a feeling there will be many more :)

Fun! I enjoy that you all met in the flesh. Feels significant. Peace.

It was. I feel it deepens the relationships we have been starting online.

wow, that is awesome. steemit is really becoming a huge movement. every other day I see a meetup post. In Nigeria, we have a meetup every other week lol.

That is fantastic!! We will get there!!

Wow! You got some wonderful pictures. I loved the sign. Very cool that it was at the spot where the American flag was raised! It did look very chilly. Maybe next time you will have warmer weather. I'm so glad you shared this!!!

Thank you, sweet simgirl :) It was cold and we are a bit delicate when it comes to being cold 🤪 but I think we have a great start going and alredy garden days, hiking days and a Steemit 101 course are in the planning :)

Well done @mariannewest. And that's awesome that the 3 people from Suriname stopped by! I had to look up their country.

Can't wait to attend one when I return in late April. So glad the ball is finally rolling in California.

You got it started!!! Looking forward to seeing you again when you come back. do you think you can teach a crypto 101 at one of the meetups. For complete newbies..... I can do steemit 101 LOL

YES PLEASE, BOTH OF YOU!

Yes. I have been developing a consulting program for a while, I just haven't implemented it yet.

that would be a great way to get it started :)

we all had to look up their country, LOL

That is so exciting!! We need to have one in northern IL/southern WI. Anyone??

There is a guy who does meetup roundups. I have to remember his name now... Maybe there is one

okay, I found his account. Here it is https://steemit.com/@teekingtv

maybe there is one forming in your area :)

300 miles. Closer would be much better! Thanks for this!

Well, you could start one. Pick a cafe or restaurant and start posting about it. They just had one in Nigeria with over 200 people - and they started a year ago with 3 or 4.
2 is a good start 😘

So much fun. I love meet ups!

It really was fun!!! Have you live meetups in your area?

Yes! I and members of the admin of @abuja-steem organised a meet-up in February. It was soooooo much fun. It was the first event I had a part in organizing and my joy knew no bounds when the hall was full to capacity.

Check out @abuja-steem for our story if you can. IMG_20180217_145759.jpg 😊

I will!! Thank you for sharing it with me!!

Very cool! Loved seeing everyone's happy faces. I didn't know you are a Cali girl, did I tell you I'm from SF originally? yay Steemit SD, lovely. xx Eagle.

Eagle UpComm.jpg

Yes, I am in San Diego - but can't claim to be a California original :) I was born and raised in Germany - but have lived here for most of my adult life. My kids are all born in SoCal :)
I love San Francisco! But it is so expensive to live there - but you are in New York, right? The city is very expensive too :(
Love your stamp of approval :)

Woot Woot SD.
OH Germany, very nice!!
yes SF is way too expensive, my family is still there and still in the same house. :)
I was in NYC for over 25 years, I'm in Colorado now. Close to my ancient home lands.
Haha ... Yeah, I feel that since I am so picky about posts I want people to know that I love
originality. Probably a bit presumptuous but I created it anyway. Hee Hee Glad you like it.
