THE WORST PHONE NUMBER I'VE EVER RECEIVED - A RANDOM RAMBLE FROM PAPA-PEPPER

in #telemarketers7 years ago

I've never experienced anything like this before.

Recently, I switched phone numbers. That was probably not a good decision. If I would have realized how frequently telemarketers call this number, I would have chosen any other number. Unfortunately, it is taking a while to get this number off of whatever lists it is on. The vlog below is a little serious, a little humorous, and based on a true story. Enjoy!

NORMALLY, I TRY TO REMAIN COOL, CALM, AND COLLECTED

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

photo @papa-pepper is handsome, thank you for sharing.

This photo?

nice style @papa-pepper. @jhoni likes your post and always follow.😊

My step daughter use to get collection calls non stop on her cell phone number.

telling them you are on the do not call list will scare them but if I have time, and it is not a robot, I like to do the Seinfeld thing and ask them for their home phone number.
"Oh, you wouldn't want me to call you at home?"

Or I ask them where their office is so I can come and talk to them in person, that's always funny.

i get calls for other people i dont even care just be polite and tell them no no no. interesting when its the same subject ive even got texts about handguns for sale.

Wow, I've never gotten any texts to purchase handguns.... how many have you bought so far? LOL

Mine was a body shop....

Oh no! Did you try to make the best of it and start fixing vehicles?

Nope I was taking names on who wanted new bodies ;-)

LOL - Probably a long list these days! ;-)

It was and did turn out pretty interesting...

If it's not someone in my phonebook, I don't answer. If it's someone I know, they'll leave me a message. I hate the fact that they are now spoofing local numbers, including cell phone numbers. You have much more patience with telemarketers than I do.

Yeah, I've tried not to answer unknown numbers sometimes, but I get so curious. I've even had multiple calls from the number 000-000-0000. I didn't know that could happen. I've seen "unknown number" before, but not all zeros.

Hi everyone! pls do help to upvote this post for my friend's father's heart. They need our support right now..

I will check it out, but be careful. Many will flag you for spam with things like that...

What a man! How kind?! Every day you earn more of my respect... Thousands would have rushed to flag the hell out of that post! But being understanding blockchain papa...you choose to do otherwise. Thanks you

But how can a Steemian of 52 rep not know it is forbidden to spam peoples blog with links? How did he achieve the 52 rep? Maybe one or 2 whales mistakenly voted him in the past.

Thank you papa for treating people the way you do

@eurogee

Yes sir, I think of it many times before posting but I have faith that there are lot of good people who will help than those people who will spam me. I will do anything I can just to help no matter what it takes sir @papa-pepper

Okay. I just wanted to make sure that you were fully aware of the risks.

You're welcome. It's just how I am.

again a very nice sharing. I continue to congratulate the wonders.

Oh my gosh, me tooooooo!!!!!! I’ve been pretty good about staying away from telemarketers, but some time ago I clicked on something that put me on this endless calling list. I hopefully successfully removed myself today. Also, to be totally honest, I didn’t watch your vlog yet. I saw your title and remembered my phone call from earlier today.

, but some time ago I clicked on something that put me on this endless calling list.

NO problem on not watching it yet, you apparently know what I'm dealing with. Be careful clicking out there!

Don't run they'll be after you forever, lol.

I'll try to hold my ground.

Its a very funny experience, although it could very frustrating most times. These telemarketers can be very dogged, they employ every trick possible to make their sales and in your own case @papa-pepper, I understand how you feel especially with the back pain related calls.
I also had such experience once, I changed my number, but the guy that used the phone before me, uses DSTV, the marketing staff of DSTV kept calling me, reminding me to renew my subscription, I kept on explaining to them that it was the guy before me that had a DSTV not me,

Yeah, they end up not really caring who they've got on the line, they just want someone and if you aren't who they were looking for, they don't care.

I got a new phone number last summer and I've been getting spam/scam calls every day since. Automated "this is your credit card company."

A lot of them have the same first 6 digits as my phone number. I also get names similar to the prior owner like "prior owner foundation" on my caller ID. I think whoever had this phone number last has an arrest warrant. Adult probation calls all the time. Thankfully none of the scam artists text or leave voice messages.

I wish those credit cards weren't automated, as I've gotten them too. I always want to ask that since I'm "qualified" but don't even have any debt if I then qualify for a cash bonus!

No real credit card company would have an automated message saying "this is your credit card company." They're trying to get personal informtion from people.

I got rid of my home phone number because it somehow got on a collection agency list. Thinking about it is making me so mad right now!! I hope I never meet anyone named David Blanchard ... they ruined my phone number.

I hope you never meet them either, for their sakes....

Sometimes it's really annoying especially when you are expecting a call from someone with an important information and all of a sudden, its the telemarketer on the phone. What!

No fun! Plus, I'm always hard at work, so they always interrupt.

Thank you @papa-pepper. Yeah, that really sucks. Sorry to hear that. I guess if anything it makes good fodder for Steemit Posts . And engaging and also humerous material as well :)

LOL - Plus, it is unfortunately something a lot of people can relate to!

it looks like you are so excited, what makes you laugh like this @papa-pepper.

what makes you laugh like this @papa-pepper.

The futility of it all.

Hilarious, crazy and can get on your nerves.

They sure can!

My husband had a falling out with a former friend and afterwards he started getting emails for Fuk Yu and I started getting phone calls. Most people have my number cause of his work schedule as did this friend of his. Recently I started getting texts that say Fuk Yu check out this link and then a spam link. Seriously I don't know weather to ditch my number or start making videos. It has been nearly 2 years I have put up with it.

Still going on after two years? That must have been quite a falling out!

He sign him up for lists and once they have your number they don't stop. I have fun with it though. Because the ones that call are the international scammers and I have fun with it.
The calls are coming less frequent but I have been considering getting a new number.

At least your telemarketers can speak understandable English.
We get a lot of Asian sounding callers, that are hard to understand what they are saying.
Or, "Yes, one moment caller, I will get him for you," park the phone and carry on doing what you were doing. Come back in five and they have gone.
Strangely, the word gets around and you will get a lot less calls.

Interesting. That putting the phone down one does sound effective. Recently, I've had some that when you answer say "Please hold" so I tell them "no" and hang up. Seriously, who starts a conversation with "Please Hold?"

At the moment there is a scam, an extremely Indian voice tells you that something is wrong with your computer, he is from IBM and can fix it over the phone, please start your computer so he can help.
My business partner, who has problems answering his mobile, and is only allowed to look at the screen here, got one of them, he managed to make the call last 15 minutes before asking for a free computer so this caller could fix it.
All calls cost, make it to expensive to call and they will stop.

Them just hanging up afterward hmmm, they must be scam artist calling at random. Overseas places using proxies

Sorry to hear it pal, bummer!!
But you are right - they are only doing their jobs!!
Papa out!! Bear that is!!

better change your no.@papa-pepper.the one your using can track every single thing and they can also profile your contacts.

Hahahahahaa. That part got me laughing; "So you don't have back pain.?" "No, i do have ear pain, when i receive calls like this". He must have dragged his feet off that phone. Haha. Yes, it's understandable that they are doing their jobs, but come on, i don't go round their houses, knocking on their doors and shoving my products to their faces. Those calls would have been harmless, but they usually come at the very wrong time possible. Makes you go aarrrgggghhhhh!. For android users, there is an app called True Callers. I installed it and makes me identify a caller the moment their calls came in. I just simply reject when i see the name, or number, or i see 'spam', because someone another True Caller user has already indicated it to be. You still managed the situation well, with humour Papa.

Oh man, please pray for my beard to grow like yours, this is the most important now

I can't even get mine to grow right! Are you sure that you want me to pray?

You should be happy with it, mine is not growing at all :(

I just recently started getting a bunch of marketing calls. Heres what ya do. After you get a call for back pain, Go in the call log and block the number. It may take a bit of time because you are getting a lot. But that is what I have been doing. :)

proof-of-frustration

This got me rolling.

Over here it is a well known problem.

Most times it feels as if this marketers are monitoring you.

They call when you are expecting an important call.
Like some one telling you; @jacobite, I will call you tomorrow by 9:30am as soon as Im about to make the cash transfer

Don't be surprised, Tele-marketers will call you the next day by 9:25am telling you about an investment opportunity that will blow your mind.

😆😆

Haha. I can imagine how frustrating the calls could be @papa-pepper . Here in Nigeria, you don't need to subscribe to those telemarketers they will keep calling until you call customer care to stop it. Nice post.

I've not changed number for years but off and on I get calls ordering some kind of cake. After that I decided to google and found that my number was quite close to the shop's mobile. Sometimes, I thought I should just accept the order and tell the guy to come collect in an hour. :-)

Thats freaking crazy....
I just experienced the same. If a phone number is out there on the Internet, maybe as Data wich is sold or in other situations - you cant barely get it off.

As Teenagers I just posted my friends Number in a Justin Biber Thread, he recieved like 20 calls each hour. At first we had a laugh at the weekend and I was playing the guitar at a campfire, pretending to be hem - the girls got crazy and must have told the thread, that its finally the right number :D

At some point he just rerouted them all to my phone and it was ringing like the next 2 weeks all the time :D

I upvoted , can you upvote mine as well and follow me too

I totally understand how you feel @papa-pepper. When we first moved here to our homestead we got a lot of phone calls for the people who had the number before us. I asked them all to take us off their list and let them know they no longer have our number.
I hate the prerecorded ones too. They are so annoying and not a good promotion for whatever company it is at the time. Speaking from experience, its a lot less headaches to change the number. :D
Hopefully, your situation improves without having to change it again. :D
God bless you and the pepper clan. :D Have an awesome day my fabulous friend! :D

In around 2005, somehow, a company mistyped a fax number to my home number. At around 2-3AM, I would get a call from a fax machine. I did not have a fax machine and if I called back, the call was answered, obviously, by a fax machine.

At first, I ignored it, thinking that they would obviously figure out that they had a problem when the receiver notified them that they had not received the fax.

After a week of one call per night, I put an old modem/fax into my computer and set it to answer.

When the fax came in, I received it. It was definitely Asian characters (I did not know which language). I took the fax to work and showed some of my co-workers.

One of my co-workers was able to read it and identified it as an invoice. At least I knew that eventually, someone would realize that they weren't getting paid.

I asked the co-worker to use the same language and write that the company had the wrong number and to check what the correct number was. When I got home, I faxed that back to them.

I was sure that was going to be the end of it.

The next evening, at around 3AM, the phone rings again. The computer/fax answers it and receives a fax.

The fax simply stated "Sorry". And that was the end of the 3AM calls.

Wow! Good job solving that problem and resolving the issue!

Ha I use Robo Killer spam blocker App. it also brings some humor into the equation. The only downside is every so often it picks up a ligit customer call. but they record the calls for playback with some fun prerecorded messages

Interesting. I may have to look into that!

I had issues with telemarketers calling my cell phone (but not nearly as bad as what you are describing) then some one told me about the national do not call list. It works, give it a try.
"The Do Not Call Registry accepts registrations from both cell phones and land lines. To register by telephone, call 1-888-382-1222 (TTY: 1-866-290-4236). You must call from the phone number that you want to register. To register online (donotcall.gov), you will have to respond to a confirmation email."
Hope that helps.

I have been in this situation where I would get as many as 14 calls a day from telemarketers and surveys for various things. In Nicaragua when someone calls you they say "who I am talking too?" which I find extremely rude. You called me, you should know. So I generally reply "well, who am I speaking too?" and then they get all huffy. Now when people call, I listen to which language they are speaking. If it is Spanish, I ask them if they speak English. If it is in English, I ask if they speak Spanish. This usually ends the call but I did have one instance where they called me in Spanish, I said I only speak English. Click. Call ends. 10 minutes later I get the Spanish person again who says in bad English "Wait". Then I get another person who speaks English wanting to sell me Circus tickets for a city 4 hours away from me! No, I did not buy the tickets. 1. I don't like circuses. and 2 I am not driving 4 hours for something I don't like!
