It is much appreciated. This is something @nathankaye and I are passionate about. We both have lost too many friends. I am sure other people have felt the pain of losing a loved on because of this as well. If we can save just one person, this will all be worth it. Nathan's music really does have healing qualities to it and it can help so many people.
May I ask, what does the organization you are donating to do to prevent suicide and help people fight depression? Just curious, since I've gone through that myself and only barely stay afloat most of the time.
@nathankaye is having difficulties with his internet and steemit but I passed your question along to him since he is more familiar with that organization and will be dealing with them directly.
"Well, I did a lot of research a few years ago about which organization to get involved with. I first got involved with SPA back in 2004. They’d made one of my songs their theme song. I had many meetings with the guys working there back in the day. I ended up wanting to associate myself with someone else because their process was very slow as it was run by Old men with good hearts. But they were still old men.
However, when I researched again a few years ago to find out who would be the best NGO to donate to, I found that most of the other organizations only focus upon youth suicide, because that gets the most funding from government and private sector, but that’s not the worst affected demographic affected in our society. Suicide prevention Australia were the only ones dealing dealing with a broad spectrum of ages, at least at that time. One of the other organizations which I really really did like, took a very long time to reply and had far too many hoops to jump through. Where as suicide prevention Australia who were now run by completely new and lively people gave me a whole hearted endorsement to the project I was working on.
I’m going to look into it again. As I also like Blackdog, as well as Lifeline. All do incredible jobs, but focus on slightly different areas."
I was right to wait on this post until after I got home from work for the day...had I listened to the songs before work I would have been an emotional wreck for the rest of the day and it would have affected my performance. This hits home for me way too hard, because I recently lost one of my brothers from the ship a couple of weeks ago to suicide. I still haven't quite processed everything and it still kills me to know that he was going through so much darkness and decided that he couldn't reach out to any of us. Thank you for this post, @derangedvisions.
For sure brother. We need to meet up soon in real life since you are just down the road from me. If you ever need to talk to someone about anything, I am here for you.
I'm sorry to hear of your recent loss @rodeo670.
Thanks for opening up about it here.
It's communication that can help prevent further losses.
Blessings and condolences to you
I had to open your link and listen to @nathankaye song again and I am in the office!
Damn it DV! you got me being emotional here. I am still battling depression and for a better part of last year I had spent talking to my doctor and was one of the reasons why I joined Steemit was to get an avenue for healing.
Writing has always been a form of healing for me and I had three major depression episodes. Last year was the worst as I nearly ended it.
Steemit helped me a lot and in turn I even made a weekly curation of some depression posts that I saw. it was my way for them to know that they are not alone. That someone is listening and will be there when they need them.
That is awesome Mav. I am glad that you have found that Steemit can be a platform for healing for you. I have been overwhelmed with the community here and the support that they offer. Nathan's music is great also and has such an emotional connection when you listen to it.
Yeah the community here has been mostly positive except for a few twats who have superiority complex and dramas but I'm out on those kinds of people don't need it.
Yeah Nathan's music made me emotional again when I heard it.
I feel for what you are saying. Lately I have felt a depression starting to slip back into my life as I feel my grasp of things slip away. Writing my last post of Deep Thoughts help me open... my chest so to speak? to help me move on some. It felt good to get it out when I felt there was nowhere to spill it. And like you said, there is someone there to listen and pick you up. Thank you for sharing this. I understand you and I see you.
They are true words, and honestly, if you are looking for understanding, I am around :).
I am in a family of 5 and feeling alone happens more often than not.
Isn't Steemit a great place? I am surprised at the amount of people that can show they care, people I don't even know. Gives a feeling of importance. A great team :D xx
Facebook is a huge pocket of negativity. I only saw to what point after I became a member on here. I think it also puts us in a bubble and be disconnected even though it says we are. It's not in the right way in my opinion.
I feel exactly the same about Facebook and YouTube. It encourages negative spirals. I needed to get away from the argument baiting that happens there and my friend introduced me to Steemit. FB makes no one feel good. Steemit is so much better.
Thank you for opening up here @foxyspirit.
It’s really important to remember that everything happens in waves and cycles. I was long as we understand the truth of this then we can take solace in the fact that low times don’t last.
Blessings to you
That is great advice right there. I know for myself it can be hard to get out of the feeling of being stuck when also living in the moment. Makes it seems like it drags on forever, but looking at it as a cycle it brings in light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you.
G’day @maverickinvictus!
Thanks so much for sharing your experiences, mate. Every time someone reads or hears about someone else’s experience of survival, when they’re in those low times it can help them out. I’m really honoured that my music has touched you in this deep way.
Blessings and good vibes to you!
Awesome. Thank you so much. We are in the process of setting up a discord right now so people have a common place to meet up for support. We are also working on getting a sponsor for the cause as well.
awesome! glad to hear of the execution of this fantastic vision. feel free (if you want) to write a comment on the winner's post above and i'll upvote it so more people can see your discord plans and need of sponsorship. the more it gets out there, the better! much love.
Do you ever get so bogged in a funk that you can't make your words work right? That's how I'm feeling.
I hope you guys are very successful in your venture.
Much love ♡
Yes, very often. In fact, this week it happened to me. Even though one of my songs Silence (Waves of Life)' came 2nd in Open Mic and people were outpouring their emotions about the topic I'd opened up with this song, I felt a massive blend of both overwhelm and also underwhelm and needed some space to just process it all before communicating again online.
So I get it and when these things happen you just have to honour where you're at.
Blessings dear @amymya
All the time @amymya. My brain goes a million miles an hour all the time and I have to work hard to reel it back to formulate thoughts that make sense for everyone else to be able to comprehend. Or i need to work on writing stuff that isn't too dark for everyone.
You both are amazing human beings. Thank you for sharing your stories, which I am sure is a very difficult thing to do. I believe in doing so, you are helping so many people. Love and blessings in your direction ❤
Thank you. We are hoping that through this post we are able to help people here on Steemit and then with the funds raised we will be able to help those outside of the platform.
High time to talk about this rather shunned-upon issu3. I think we avoid discussing it not because we do not know anything about it, but because we are sensitive, and it pains us, to talk about it. I personally lost two friends because of suicide
This man's songs are powerful. I can feel it all deep inside. A Moment In Your Life is what I need to hear more and more. Sharing this to help get it out there. Thank you. xx
Thank you. I knew from the first time I heard his music that there was something special about it. Music has helped me through so many things in my life and his stuff can help so many.
Thank you so much @foxyspirit! It warms my heart to hear that 'A Moment in Your Life' has keys that you relate to. Like positive truth mantras to help recalibrate our minds for a happier life.
Thank you for sharing it. You never know who it could help...
Blessings to you
If it can help me, I know it can help someone else. Even if it is just one person, that person counts. I shared this post in another person's blog that talked about her struggle with PTSD. I hope it helps her as well, to just help change the mood even. Helping people is what makes me happy, so why not work towards that? :) Take care @nathankaye. And thank you for what you do xx.
Hmm.. Suicide and depression yeah? It is one of the things that is so subtle and yet I am pretty sure it is one of the biggest killers in our days. I was just led the other day to reach out to military families especially those who went into combat. I can't imagine what you have been through but there's just so much our soul can take. Post-traumatic stress is definitely no joke. Just read about your girl's letter to your best friend too. Thanks for sharing all this in such vulnerable manner. Seeking help itself is a form of courage to be vulnerable. Excellent effort for that, @derangedvisions :) I have to applaud you for that.
My voting power is not high because of my low SP. So I will use bidbots to upvote this post instead. Hope that helps :)
Good job @nathankaye too!! I'm so sorry you had to go through your friend's suicide. It is amazing to read about how his soul visited you to tell you it is a mistake. I often hear people say that they would regret half way on their way to the death of suicide. I guess to live, it requires even greater courage. Thanks for writing the song too! It is emotional but it is strong too in the message.
You have a compassionate heart @happycrazycon.
Thanks for your support. Even a little low SP vote and a resteem goes a long way to building a momentum for helping others.
If the song I wrote, and indeed entire album I created for this cause, helps save 1 life, then that's an achievement. It warms me to have been informed that it has already and will continue to do so with the help of wonderful people like you and @derangedvisions.
Blessings to you
Oh these are such kind words from you. Keep doing what you are doing @nathankaye :) The world needs it. Bless the work of your hands and efforts to go far!
You are absolutely right on this! In Malaysia where I am, there was a suicide case that pierced my heart. A teacher suspected a student stole her iPhone and she denied. The teacher went to the house to speak with her parents. When they went to check on the student, she killed herself because she thought no one wanted to believe her. She left two letters behind, one is to her teacher, another to her parents. The one to her teacher is, she really didn't take the phone :(
I cannot see lives be gone just like this, because of perhaps some negligence. It could have been prevented. Sigh.
Thank you. It is a taboo issue that everyone knows about, but no one really wants to bring to light. Everyone has family members that suffer from depression or they even suffer themselves.
Thanks so much for adding to this discussion @kabir88.
Whilst it’s a serious issue that affects a broad cross-section of people in our society, you’re right, it certainly men between the ages of 35 to 65 years of age that have the highest suicide rate By far. Hopefully making music to inspire conversations to spread the word about this issue to get it to reach the people that are suffering the most.
Blessings
I have struggled with depression myself and I know the stigma that comes with it. Now that I don't have an employer and work for myself, I feel a lot more comfortable talking about it.
There are certain phrases that make things worse for men and we should call people out on it when it's used
"Man up" - no, it's okay for men to have emotions "Don't be a p****y" - apart from being sexist, it reinforces the idea that men should not cry or show any vulnerability. Expressing our emotions and showing our vulnerability helps us be closer to those around us.
Men are forced to hide their feeling from the time they are small. If a young boy falls, the parents tell them to walk it off, but if a girl falls they usually run to them and tell them they will be ok and coddle them. It starts at such a young at that boys are supposed to suppress their feelings. I feel this could be one of the leading factors that men are at higher risk of suicide. Another thing I have read about why stats say men commit suicide more is because men do it in more violent ways then women, so it is less likely to survive an attempt.
Beautifully said, mate.
Expression of emotion is a vital first step in the healing process, yet it seems like such a big hurdle for our culture and for men to leap over, but of course, the healing process doesn't stop there.
Once the emotions have been felt and run there course, we need to shake those heavy feelings off and replace them with more positive and reconstructive feeling. Kind of like, letting the expression of emotions to others wash us clean of the pain, then recalibrating our perceptions and how we wish to move on from that dark place onto our soul-purpose here on Earth (and we all have vital roles to play in this world).
Thank you. Your help getting the message out is much appreciated. Like I have said before, Nathan is truly a talented musician and his music has the ability to help so many people.
Thank you So much @stimu.
There is always a way out even if we aren’t the ones that can think of it in those heavy moments, which is why I’ve been on this mission to reach out to those suffering for nearly 17 years.
It’s great and heartwarming to see more people talking about this and responding so well and strongly to my song. Blessings to you
Just a vote and resteem is all I am asking. Check in on your friends and family and make sure they are doing ok. If you need an ear, I am hear for you brother.
Thanks for bringing attention to this. Depression is such a force of darkness. I found that reaching out is the best way to bring me out of it. This community is a great place for that. I don't have a ton of free time, but maybe we could set up a channel on discord where people could chat with someone. Obviously not professional help, but sometimes a friendly voice is enough, especially for someone who can't afford professional help. Anyway, I'd be happy to help a few hours a week. I definitely can't spearhead it, but if someone else is able, I'd be glad to help.
Wow @solarsupermama! What a beautiful idea and offer of service to the community! Thank you so much, dear being!
It's compassionate hearts like you and @derangedvisions that are volunteering to help me get this healing message music out there that are making the difference in saving people's lives.
Blessings
You're more than welcome. I am really grateful for your willingness to do what you're doing. We definitely need more support out there for people facing depression. I think it's also key to keep educating people who don't have depression. I know I had very different opinions about suicide and depression before I faced it. Most people just don't understand, and once they do, they will be more supportive, and it will become easier for those dealing with it to talk about it. It's definitely something I feel passionate about. Let me know if there are other ways I can help. I'll be writing a post soon.
Thank you for taking the time to read this initiative. As far as a separate channel on discord for people, I really don't think that is needed. I think the best thing would be to just get to know everyone that is in the discord channels you are in already. If you haven't heard from someone in your group for a while, reach out to them. The community is what makes this platform so great, so get to know the ones that you are in the discord channels with the most. Reach out to someone new each day. You never know how much you can brighten their day by just saying hello to them.
Absolutely. We have to be tuned in and keep checking in because it can quickly get to the point of someone not being able to reach out. I know there were lots of points I just didn't want to talk to anyone. It always feels good when someone you care about notices and reaches out to you.
confidential toll-free hotline Veterans and their loved ones can call 1-800-273-8255 and Press 1 . 24 hrs a day .

Thank you @wolfhart, there is a large veteran community here on Steemit. If you are a veteran and not part of it, let me know and I can get you patched in. Thank you for the info.
I just made a comment . you did a song, nice , keep it up , music will get through to more people . We have to help each other and not look the other way .
Thank you
Can I suggest that you update the post to include all suicide prevention hotlines for every country?
I appreciate it may be a fair amount of work but if this post gets the visibility it deserves then it would be a good place for everyone to get the details.
This is a superb idea @atomcollector!
I think rather than every suicide prevention hotline in every country, which is don’t think would be possible unless it’s alreadyy collated elesewhere, would be to have the main/largest hotline in the main countries of Steemit users. For example, there are several hotlines for suicide prevention in Australia. In fact, several in each city, yet the most famous one is Lifeline.
Inferring too many could create confusion @derangedvisions so pick one for each main country starting with English speaking countries, I guess, as that’s the language we’re communicating in here.
Yes. I'm sorry I didn't say more at the time. His music is very powerful, and I had nothing to say in response. I still don't. Resteeming and hopefully I can do more.
Thank you @ derekkind. It moves me to hear that you were touched by the music and important message and it inspired you to resteem. It all makes a difference...
Blessings & good vibes to you
Thanks for replying, @nathankaye - I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you! Yes, I was very much moved in this instance, and blown away by your talent in this and others of your videos. I can only say thank you for sharing your music and using it for the good. All the best! :)
i think depression is increasing because of the internet. we are constantly bombarded by how shitty humanity is, and even though there's a lot of positive stuff out there too, it is drowned out by all the shittyness. personally i get so depressed everytime i read steemit posts, that i'm not even willing to create quality content for it anymore. and i know that it's mostly all in my mind. but it's hard to ignore though.
I understand how you feel. It's what made me almost totally abandon the negativity found on mainstream platforms like Facebook and Youtube. Just echo chambers of negative crap. In fact, I abandoned mainstream TV and news for the same reason many many years ago. That's more negative than even the internet.
And that negativity is an inculcation that's been happening for generations, so it makes sense that people bring that negative conditioning with them.
All the more reason to counteract it by making high-quality positive transformational content ourselves. Please don't stop. Do more.
Also, find out who it is specifically that is being unconstructively negative on your feed and then 'unfollow' them here on Steemit.
Anyway, thanks for sharing here.
Blessings to you
MINNOWBOOTCAMP is on board, this is a worthy cause!
Thanks so much, @minnowbootcamp!

Indeed DV! We are all part of a bigger consciousness that is the whole of the human race.
Very true! <3
Thank you ^_^ looking after one another is the way to be. <3
Steemit is amazing and the fact that you can talk to someone and connect regardless of the distance, age or preference in life is just awesome.
I wouldn't have met a lot of great people if I just stayed in Facebook and in my tiny bubble.
Facebook is a huge pocket of negativity. I only saw to what point after I became a member on here. I think it also puts us in a bubble and be disconnected even though it says we are. It's not in the right way in my opinion.

I agree FS! it had placed us in a bubble that was full of negativity and Fake news and the sponsored ads sometimes drives me crazy!
I only log into facebook every few days to check on my business page. Other than that, I am sick of the political arguing and other crap on there.
Thank you for opening up here @foxyspirit.

Great post about an important but very misunderstood issue.
Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50 in the UK
We need to talk about this
Blessings
Thanks for starting this discussion @nathankaye
I have struggled with depression myself and I know the stigma that comes with it. Now that I don't have an employer and work for myself, I feel a lot more comfortable talking about it.
There are certain phrases that make things worse for men and we should call people out on it when it's used
"Man up" - no, it's okay for men to have emotions
"Don't be a p****y" - apart from being sexist, it reinforces the idea that men should not cry or show any vulnerability.
Wow, @nathankaye really touched us all at the blockchaine.
Very sad your story, but wonderful that you got the way out.
You're having a very nice initiative.
Resteemed!
Thank you. Your help getting the message out is much appreciated. Like I have said before, Nathan is truly a talented musician and his music has the ability to help so many people.
You're right about Nathan, he has also a very big heart!
Blessings to you
You're welcome @nathankaye!
I'm glad to be helpful. I hope to do more in the future!
I am all in, brother! I will do what I can to help.

Thanks so much @basictoliving.
More people like you please. That’s what we’re ordering.
Blessings and thanks to you
Thanks for bringing attention to this.

Fantastic initiative!
Can I suggest that you update the post to include all suicide prevention hotlines for every country?
I appreciate it may be a fair amount of work but if this post gets the visibility it deserves then it would be a good place for everyone to get the details.
That is a great idea. I will be adding that info later today.
I did this at the end of a video on the topic, but could only fit about 5 or so country’s hotlines.
Good thing someone already found and listed them for me.
@atomcollector and @nathankaye, I have added the numbers to the post.
Great work mate!
Excellent!
Great post!
Thank you!

Thanks for replying, @nathankaye - I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you! Yes, I was very much moved in this instance, and blown away by your talent in this and others of your videos. I can only say thank you for sharing your music and using it for the good. All the best! :)
Touching, This needs more awareness.
Thank you. This is something that so many people deal with every day, but not enough people talk about.
I agree @vanessahampton and so does @derangedvisions. I'm honoured that you were touched and that you agree.

i think depression is increasing because of the internet. we are constantly bombarded by how shitty humanity is, and even though there's a lot of positive stuff out there too, it is drowned out by all the shittyness. personally i get so depressed everytime i read steemit posts, that i'm not even willing to create quality content for it anymore. and i know that it's mostly all in my mind. but it's hard to ignore though.
Blessings to you
Nice photos. they deserve an award. It is very nice. great work
