How much of your time do you spend online daily?

in Hive Polls3 months ago

It's something that's been getting me to think a lot more lately, the time I spend doing various things online. I may be 99% hive in my work, even when I'm on X the sole reason I got active there again was to help gain a presence for hive. A lot of the last few months have also been all the various projects I have running here and have added another big one late last year to that list.

I do wonder though the toll it has on me, not just mentally but physically as well and I've been meaning to re-asses some of my activity now that things are shaping up. Eventually I'd also want to be in a position where I can hire someone to do the daily work I do with @holozing when it comes to managing, organizing, testing, etc and instead be more passive and see it all come to fruition. Hopefully we'll get in a position one day where the project can afford to hire someone else.

In the mean time though, I've been wanting to remove some of the unnecessary online time or so called "bloat" and exchange it with something more healthy. A few months ago I bought an indoor bike called an "assault bike" or "air bike", it basically looks like this:

image.png

The amount of times I've used it? Maybe thrice in 6 months.

My physical health has gone quite for the worse, nothing serious but I can tell the extra kgs aren't making things easy on me, so I've been thinking of starting to change that around and maybe post about the process. Being all anon online naturally, you shouldn't expect me to make any progress reports in ways where I show much of myself, but maybe just a pic of the scale and how much I use the bike daily along with some thoughts could be enough.

Wanting to create a big project like Holozing is something that's also made me realize that it's important that my mental and physical health is in a good place. I'd wanna see it through to the end and make sure it follows my vision and is something I can continue working on and playing. I guess as a gamer eventually you get to that place where you feel like putting your effort and activity in some random company's game with close to nothing to show for it in the end gets old. Although we now have the tools to change that. Guess that's where I'm at right now and I hope that I can get this project to where I envision it in the near future and that it also helps Hive at the same time get some much deserved recognition in this space filled with fake web3's. To do so I need to stay alive, though and not constantly be on the verge of burning out or mindlessly watching TV shows and movies while still doing the same thing as when I'm working, sitting down.

Anyway, thought I'd end this sad realization/epiphany of my current state with a poll of how much time you spend online and if you think it's too much or too little and if you'd wanna change it.

Sort:

Having a job now has likely forced me to spend less time online. Some days I probably only have up to an hour, but way more at the weekends.

My job is active, so that's a boon. I'm on my feet for most of the day. Then I squeeze in climbing usually 3 times a week. I'm not someone who likes exercising for the sake of exercising, so climbing is the hobby that gets me active. It's certainly more imperative for me to be active as I'm heading into my later years and trying to stave off health issues. A change in my way of eating has helped as well. Modern lifestyles don't make it easy for us to stay offline and be active.

I wonder if you can attach a tablet to that bike and be peddling while you work online. I was listening to people talking about having treadmill type machines at standing desks because they have to do a lot of computer work, but are aware of the need to be moving for their own well-being.

Yeah a standing desk is definitely something I wanna invest in later, as for the bike I think watching something would get difficult to focus but listening to a podcast or youtube video or just music should work well.

That sounds like a good idea. I've taken to listening to podcasts while driving, as my radio isn't really working properly any more anyway. It feels more productive anyway. 🤣

I work on the internet. Kinda hard to do that without being online other than when I'm physically connecting cables.

Saving the distances of our realities, many times the same thing happens to me. I love doing physical activity and creating content. But I've realized something for a while now, and that is that the famous phrase “if you love what you do, it's not work”. I think it's a big lie, since, no matter how much you love what you do, you still get tired, except that you enjoy it at the same time. But it's still stressful and even more so when it's time consuming.

Personally, the burpees challenge that I do every day complements my physical and even more so, my mental health. I recommend starting with something close by, like an easy exercise routine at home that doesn't even require a change of clothes to get started. Example: Jumping rope or simply doing planks. As time goes on, you'll want to do more. The most important thing is consistency. That's key “every day is every day”. Another important point is nutrition, but I'll tell you about that another time, since I get tired of writing.

Greetings.

Sorry to be late,
Well 8 hours in Front of the PC for work, and three hours in hive, and splinterlands, well around 12 hours per day, guau there is enough of my invaluable time.
Sorry to you, for your healthy, your goals and topics are completely different to my, but my topics for bloging here give me the opportunity to combinated the outside spaces and areas, with a little physics exercises, for this reason my health is one of the best.
During weekend I am always are waking in the forest and spend less around 1 or two hours, in screen, because I visit places and I am trying to found the next animal, plant, and new species, which did not exist for the science until our days, or investigate the new mushroom that can give the cure for some sickness people.
Well you should trying to go outside and walk a little more, it give you a better perspective.
Best regard.

I am spending quite a long time online daily mostly on social medias and Hive. I must confess that I am quite spread all over the space and it is hard to focus. About 2 weeks ago I've started a new project on Hive (https://realtimehive.com), but I lost the energy to get it to fruition. I need to recharge and get back on track!

See for yourself 😂!

7.5hrs on mobile plus 6 hrs drawing on my tab= 13.5hrs screen on time today 😅.

Send help 😵‍💫!

What app is that? Do you mostly just use mobile and tab? no PC?

That's an in built feature on Android OS called digital wellbeing.

Yeah I have a pc but it's low end so I just use it for casual use and storage. The real work is done on the tab and I just use my phone as an extra screen to look at references while drawing.

Personally I think it's better to use a tab than a PC because the backpain will be super high since I spend hours to complete a drawing plus it's mobile.

For me, 2-6, not inlcuding work, and I don’t game (but that could change when Holozing goes live..)

I spend 2-3 hours online in the morning. After lunch 1-2 hours online. And in the evening 4-5 hours online. Most of my online time is spent on Hive and Splinterlands. I love being in this ecosystem.
This spring and summer I lost weight from 122 to 114 kilograms. I think that the main reason is my half-empty refrigerator (mainly the absence of sweets and fatty foods) and the presence of vegetables, fruits and lean meat.

Did u buy the hive dip you mentioned u were waiting on?

No, the fall is still ahead, the bull market continues, the SP500 has not yet entered a deep correction. But I bought some SPS and will bring my SPS bid to 300k tomorrow.

does sps not show up on the wallet page? https://peakd.com/@acidyo/wallet/hive-engine

was just curious how hard you going on it

In SPS I have $2280 at current prices. My main amount is in HBD staking, 35k HBD.

Hmmm, this was a thought provoking question, I used to spend all day and all night online until I saw it wasn't a healthy digital lifestyle, I was gradually losing out on the real life and so I set a timer on my apps to help me discipline myself. and that has helped me to be more balanced, I now spend a reasonable time online and offline and that's healthy for me.

There is no doubt about the support you have shown to Hive, and how diligent you have been to carry out a project within the platform. My best wishes so that you can not only continue but also delegate part of your work.
Obviously all that effort takes a mental and physical wear, so it is also very important to balance things with other activities 👍.

Greetings 👋

Seriously not more than 2 hours a day... maybe some days I'll hit the 3 hour and that includes Hive... well it's mostly Hive... Hive has really sucked up the need for most social platforms 😅😅

That doesn't include screen time and gaming time though

Does listening music from youtube while driving my car, count as being online xD ?

But even then I still think I belong in the 2-6h category. And I'm afraid as the time goes on, I could even reach 6-12h category.

Good point! I didn't take into account the podcasts on YouTube I'm listening to as I drive for work. 😆

If there would be an option 'too much' i'd definitely be in that category.

It is a big problem especially for little kids if they have phones of course which usually is the case. Point is that they get influenced by social media and all that rubbish. Gaming on the other hand is still okay if the parents put a time limit.

It is just the sad reality.

Best wishes for your journey to get in better shape, can not wait to hear from you.

Around 5- 6 hours daily trying to reduce it

the difference between 2 and 6 hrs is a lot 😁 on days off it's 3-4 for me, sometimes more but at work days 30 - 90 minutes, no more time 😏

My job is in IT, so it's kind of hard to avoid being online during the day. I try to cut back a bit at night, but things never sleep in crypto, so it is hard!

1-2 hrs from last few weeks but earlier it was more. Schedule is busy these days and somehow manage this time to have presence in online world

Screen/desk time is what's bad for us, not being online per se. You can be online listening to a podcast while lying in bed or doing some chores, which I sometimes do.

But on the screen/desk time I am definitely above 6 hours daily and likely above 8 most days or closer to 10 some days.

I'm at 6-12hrs/day I believe that it's still unproductive and unhealthy. I also want to change my routine, I'm doing it slowly for now.

Health first so you can do everything you want to do later. It's just a matter of optimizing your time, it's hard, but it can be done. I'm not a good example of optimization so this comment also serves as a self-advice.

My work is mostly offline, I'm online only when I'm on Hive, a few hours a day.

I hope you can organize your time, I think you have a lot of good things to do yet. Greetings.

Haha I voted 6-12h but I am not sure if it's beyond 12h. Being introverted, I don't have a huge social circle, so most of my time is just spent on social media, reading news, playing games, chatting with friends on Whatsapp, which is practically online. The little pockets of time offline would probably be exercise, eating, showering, and sleeping. Hahahaha!

Same here! my friends are spread out across the country and overseas. So, I spent talking to them online on Whatsapp, IG, etc. Unless I am traveling visiting a friend/family, I am definitely chronically online 😂

I think I spend a lot of time online. Even when I'm eating, I tend to read reddit. I do want to lessen it at some point, but it is difficult when most of what I do is online. I have two screens, so that helps me finish things quicker, but opening streams or videos can really mess with my productivity.

Before reading just answering poll: Depends? If it includes work, or just listening to music which is streamed online - certainly over 12 hours!

I probably spend 6-12 hours online daily but I'm also walking around at the same time for most of that so I like to think it cancels out.

Greetings @acidyo ,

Thank you for the smiles...you said...' To do so I need to stay alive, though..'

It does seem this year has been the year of 'reality checks' all around, and it is what you are saying here. Common sense says....'Balance is key.'

The Air Bike looks like a solution especially with winter coming on. I hope it assists you in your good ideas.

Kind Regards,

Bleujay

1-2 is all I can achieve these days. That is the time when all the house is tucked up in bed and I can get a moment to myself.

2-6 hours seems likely. Playing a games for my let's plays often takes 1-2 hours, writing a post maybe around an hour(?). I also read posts and make comments on hive, watch a lot of anime reactions/ let's plays of my favorite games.

The amount of times I've used it? Maybe thrice in 6 months.

Few years ago I bought rubber expander. I only used it a handfull of times.

My day job is 8 hours online plus my personal time, so easily 10-12 hours...

Do you do anything to try and offset the toll that may have on your body?

Just speaking from personal experience, it hasn't been great the last few years.

I try to get at least 3 work-out sessions a week.

  1. 2 weight-lifting sessions per week in my garage
  2. 1 calisthenics session in my garage (I use it as cardio / core / legs)

Nice, yea i need to get started with some cardio, get winded so easily these days.

I am basically online for maximum 2 hours, somehow i have been busy in my professional work as well as in travelling. Moreover, these 2 hours are basically for finding a new place to explore as well as posting it on HIVE.!!

With high end PCs in everyone's pocket, most people are online every waking hour.

2-6 Hours, a Combination of working time and spending time in Hive and other social Media.

While working online, one has to sit for a long time which can affect the body and eyes. So one should find some time to exercise, walk and run. Then work performance will increase and both body and mind will be good.

Too long !!

I need to get a life, but it is too wet too cold to be outdoors

A lot of my time in a day is spent online. It's not totally unproductive though as I'm doing some language studies online. Also some research and blogging. 😀

Most of my online time I spend on Hive and with the Hive games and I think it's averaging 2.30 hours a day

I guess I am chronically online. I spend 6-12 hours daily 😂 and talk to my friends online too.

I like to make a purchase of a similar bike, to warm up the body beforehand, it is very useful the bike, before doing yoga would be appropriate. Best wishes.

Hive Power Up Day - October 1st 2024

@acidyo, I paid out 16.458 HIVE and 0.000 HBD to reward 42 comments in this discussion thread.

I recommend investing in a good pair of shoes and walking for half an hour a day, preferably in the morning before starting work - whether at home
or outside.
This change alone can give you energy for the entire day. It helped me a lot when I was in a funk; just walking for an hour or two made a huge difference.

It clears the mind and it's very good for the soul as well. I got my best ideas while walking.
I oftentimes listen to podcasts, but walking in nature without any distractions is even more relaxing.
Leaving your earbuds at home might be a better option I guess.

I'd start there and perhaps a set of dumbbells and a bench for strength training.
I don't like commercial gyms, even if I went there until a couple of years ago. So I can understand anyone who wants to workout at home.
You can train pretty much every muscle group with home equipment, and you could start with these two items.
