Hello Everyone!
Today I'm very happy to announce the growth of this Small community-based Engagement project that has been ongoing for months now. It all started back in November 2021 when I did a call-to-action video on 3speak. In this video, I asked Nigerians if they would like to gather every weekend to gist and talk about the happenings on Hive and in the country.
Hive-Naija Call To Action - Engagement Strategy
That post alone had over 250+ comments. It was something we all needed. I haven't seen stats but I'm pretty sure we rank in the top 10 in terms of countries here on Hive. I took it upon myself to reward active engagers on the weekend's post every week. It was something that was not too comfortable as I wasn't earning as much then, however I got support from some the community members. It was a welcomed initiative. @starstrings01 helped with promotion of the overall winner's post while the rest of prizes usually come from myself and some volunteers.
It is Important for me to add that, I've only submitted quality posts by the winners for curation and I always take my time to go through comments and contributions to give the other rewards.
Growth
As surprising as it may look, we've seen our comments jump from 100-200 to over 500 comments per post. We recently broke our ATH by getting to 874+ comments. In that post we discussed "Blogging Vs Vlogging" on Hive. Alot of people shared their opinions on which is easier and better for them.
Another aspect of growth I've noticed is Bonding. While some times we have few participants, It usually very obvious that many people now find it comfortable to gist and talk with each other.
Welcoming Newbies:
The engagement idea as been a very good go-to place for newbies starting out on Hive. In this space, they can meet experience Hivers and join in the conversation easily. Recently, we discussed our Hive Struggles and from the post, it was easy to see how people have struggled on Hive and some people's recovery. A quick look at @mrenglish's struggle would buttress my point
Men! The struggle boku ooo. First, I had the problem of knowing where to go. It wasn't long though before I started knowing the right communities to get support.
Tags were a problem too. Not knowing which tags to use could make you earn less or could hide tour post from the right curators of your content.
There was also this one of formatting my articles. What I could do was just to write whatever it was I wanted to write and post them like that sometimes in block. But all that is in the past now.
With the engagement chat every week, We discuss and trash out this problems.
Sam's Hangout
The Idea of creating this account is to help personalize my work in helping Nigerians. This is an account that would focus solely on promoting Nigerians, engagements and promoting latest updates on Hive. I've done some promotions and collaborations in the past and with this account it would be easier to do more.
Support
Support is all I seek for, In a bid to promote this initiative and engagement, I've spoken to some of my friends and I hope to kick off with a great start. Thankfully in recent weeks, we've gotten support from @aliento. I hope we get alot more.
For prizes, I would still pay them from my end and continue the same way. Hopefully, it gets bigger from here.
I'd end this post by saying a big thank you to everyone who has supported. Thanks to @ksam for his never ending support and for also designing the dividers for the engagement post.

It makes sense to separate some routine activities from our personal businesses. It is nice to see a new account for the weekend hangout. It is welcome!
Nonetheless, for the weekend engagements, I feel (and I am suggesting) that with this new account, we can go develop a new template for the engagement posts in the following order:
The weekend engagement theme (the quotes are nice, they should stay), then give context to the engagement topic.
Call to engagement (which are basically the questions to be answered)
Last week's engagement activity
The rules
Tags (should be in super or subscript using
<sub> or <sup>so that it looks smaller. (I feel it occupies too much space and makes the post look too busy).Your comment (engagement) on the week's activity can come in as a comment so that we can engage better with you too (the engagement post can just end as a prompt).
I feel the CTE (call to engage) should be limited to a question or two, so that the comment section doesn't look so much like an essay (though people are free to express themselves as much as they wish). With that, better cross-engagement can be encouraged.
Create a unique tag for the weekend engagement, maybe, something like Sam2022we1 - Samostically's weekend engagement for the first week of the year (the one representing the week in the year)
With sam.hangout now launched and running, I also believe we can get more engagement opportunities other than weekends.
I've not been the most diligent in engaging, but I appreciate that you're able to gather us together to chill every weekend. Nice one, Sam.
The above are simply suggestions, and could be debatable.

I intend to stop the tagging stuff
Honestly, the tagging may seem intrusive. But I feel it's important to most of us. With plenty followings. It's easy for ones news feed to easily populate and push new posts down the timeline. So, the tagging for me is still okay.
Though, taking a census can help u decide better.

It's really so good the account has successfully been created. The question for this week is a really thoughtful one and I think I have a few things to say in response to them.
First thing is the people, the traffic. If there's any way for any organization or anything at all to be better, they need people for it. When I first joined Hive, for more than five months, I never knew of the engagement going on, so the first thing I would suggest is, we should look for a way to create more awareness about what is going on here.
I think we can do that by making an invitation compulsory, in the sense that, you can't be a winner when you don't invite someone new (Nigerian) to join in the engagement.
And whenever we have someone new joining us for the first time, we should always do well to recognize all of them in the next hang out and maybe encourage them with a little something to motivate them to come back next time, this is similar to what @nkemakonam89 has said though, but I added some few things.
As Nigerians, we've seen how our cou keeps going through so many setbacks but as youth of our beloved nation, I believe we can do something about it, so I want to suggest we talk on PARADIGM SHIFT, how we can do something different because we all know that, we can't keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different result, it's insanity.

Now, here comes the real deal.
To make this place the real deal, what I think should be done is to first continue what the initiator had done with the #HiveNaija-WeekendEngagement. That place was inspiring. Every week we ru. To see what's up. So, let it be replicated here.
Topics on sports, politics, food, music and all things that makes us Nigerians should be discussed here. As such we would be selling our culture to the world through Hive.
We may decide to add once in a while add posting topics for the weekend. This would warrant subscribers to write a post and the best entries would earn rewards from the organisers.
This new beginning is an indication of great things to come for all of us.

Comment activity have grown over the weeks. It will grow.
It's an engagement something and that's the most reason I think it should remain at the comment section of the post from @sam.hangout or else it will start reducing with time. Take for example the weekend experience community, since they start making post, the engagement has reduced.
If we stay making post, with time the engagement will reduce whether or not we agree.
I think that's right. The fun we derive when engaging in the comment section is high and everyone looks out for it.
I have been a member of the weekend experiences from inception and I can tell that it is not the same as in the beginning.
Yes sir, I for one I'm here because I so much love how the engagement is going and that's why I am here. If we add making a post to it, there's every possibility we will loss focus on the many goal which is the engagement.

I will quickly give a short contribution to this question ❓
Well, you already introduced incentives or rewards which are cool 😎. I suggest we also recognize any new member that joins and give him or her a warm welcome. This will to a large extent make him want to stay here as long as he can. Also, we should try to be consistent👌, no weekend should pass without our usual meeting here. Lastly, once in a while maybe at @6months intervals, we can run a poll or survey to get some feedback from the members on our participation so far and see if there is a need for adjustment.
I suggest we talk about what we do outside hive. A lot of people have another online or offline way of earning aside hive which might benefit some interested members. My thoughts though 💭

They've suggested a lot already so I don't think I have any different from theirs.
I can only say you try to keep to time for every engagement week, and the topics discussed shouldn't be too much to cause a long reply (it's still cool though but not when it's regular).
Brief topics to be discussed but lots of engagement to follow as every person get to read a whole respond and reply accordingly (not many are able to read those long responses haha) I do anyways when I was active here.
Aside that, Hive Naija weekly engagement is awesome!
