Christmas is grand story of love
Agree. Love sparkled with hope.
Some years ago, between November and February, I made a trip through Latin America and I visited some countries, including Argentina, Brazil and Colombia.
In December, while in Colombia, I stayed
with a Venezuelan family whose house was working as an Airbnb. This family was super nice with me and treated me like I was part of the family. I really felt like I was in home.
In Christmas eve they made a lot of food to celebrate this holiday, and although I don't remember all of the dishes, I remember 'Hallaca', 'Ensalada de gallina' and 'Pernil'.
I tried a bit of every dish, hesitating a little because I've never seen those plates, but when I tried the 'Pernil' it was different. It felt like something magical was happening.
I don't really know how it's made, but it is a baked pork leg with a delicious sauce that I really loved. I couldn't stop eating it and I couldn't eat anything else. I was really focused on that 'pernil', nothing else mattered at that moment. Lol.
I've never ate anything like that again and even though I tried to make it myself a couple times it wasn't the same. There's something in Venezuelan people that let them make magic with their hands while cooking.
Sadly I lost communication with my Venezuelan family, but I keep hoping to met them again someday. It really was one of the best Christmas in my life, even though I was far from home.
Best wishes for you all ๐
Your story remembered me my trip across Argentina an there I tried an excellent beef meat with spices it was very delicious!
I tried the 'asado' too, really good food. That meat was special. Lol.
Reading this commentary of yours filled me with immense joy that brought tears to my eyes. Tears of happiness because you were well taken care of by my compatriots. Indeed, hallaca, chicken salad, asado, baked chicken, and the majestic pernil are our Christmas meals. I am very glad that you enjoyed them, especially the pernil, and that you felt the love of the Venezuelan. We are like that, cheerful and loving.
Thank you for your beautiful words. I'm sure that the Venezuelan family also remembers you with love.
Happy Holidays!
I have met few Venezuelans, but they were all very kind to me and made me feel part of their family. I am very grateful to everyone.
I hope you can finally have peace and that things get better in your country.
That is what we all hope here, that better days will come, better rulers, and that we will once again be a productive and happy country. If that happens, I will invite you to visit us.
A virtual hug.
It would be a pleasure to go there someday. It is a beautiful country with beautiful people.

Classic crispy pork with oven-roasted potatoes. Some sauerkraut and Sinep on the side. Nothing can beat that.
Such a good enjoyment guy! ๐ Have fun
That must be exquisite. I love pork, it has a wonderful taste that others don't have.
Happy holidays!
In Germany we call it "Schokoladebrot", so I think it's chocolate bread in english. It's a sort of cookies, which you make traditionally at christmas time.
Instead of writing the whole recipe, I'd rather describe it and explain how it tastes: The bottom layer is a kind of soft cake base with hazelnuts and baking cocoa. The top layer is a thin layer of melted chocolate, which then hardens. Together it is an incredibly delicious combination. The chocolate, the hazelnuts, the soft base... By far my favorite cookies!
I'm sure if I get to try those cookies they will be my favorite. The description you gave made my mouth water. I need to travel to Germany.
Happy Holidays!
Nice recipe ๐ฅฐ
My favorite Christmas recipe is for gingerbread cookies! The blend of spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger creates a warm, festive flavor. I love rolling out the dough and using cookie cutters to make fun shapes, then decorating them with icing and sprinkles. They make for a delightful treat and a great activity to share with family during the holidays.
This seems to be a recipe for gods. I sure would love to eat them.
Happy Holidays!
It's a lovely one, happy enjoyment
In Cuba, Christmas celebrations are not very common and were even banned for many years. Nevertheless, many families still gather to share that night, enjoying traditional sweets and roasted meat. Despite increasing difficulties due to the situation in Cuba, we continue to find ways to celebrate together.
My favorite recipe is Cuban-style Alicante nougat. This is a sweet that we always make at home. Hereโs how I prepare it:
First, you need 2 cups of peeled peanuts. Toast the peanuts for about 10-15 minutes until they are golden. Then, let them cool.
Meanwhile, in a saucepan, heat 1 cup of honey over medium heat and add 1 cup of sugar. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved. Next, beat one egg white to stiff peaks and add it to the honey and sugar mixture, stirring constantly.
Once everything is well mixed, add the toasted peanuts and, if you like, a bit of lemon zest. Pour the mixture into a mold lined with baking paper, pressing down well to make it compact. Let it cool at room temperature until firm. Then, cut it into pieces and enjoy a delicious Cuban-style Alicante nougat.
I hope you like it! Merry Christmas to everyone and a Happy New Year full of blessings.
That recipe is spectacular, I have never made nougat and with the tips you have left us, I will try to do it. It looks easy to make. Thanks for sharing and I wish with all my heart that everything in Cuba gets better, better days ahead.
Happy holidays!
Looks really tasty ๐
I'm not a big fan of cooking, I'm more of an eater ๐
But at Christmas and during the holidays here in Argentina it's common to eat Russian salad:

Lovely salad ๐
One of my projects for 2025 is to travel to Argentina, specifically to Buenos Aires and Cordoba, and I am not going to skip their dishes that mostly have meats. My brother and my nephew say that they eat very tasty food there.
Happy holidays!
That's great, mate, I hope you like the food a lot, and have a good trip.
Yuhh it's a good question. But considering that in my region we celebrating New Year and only then Xmas I think it's possible to share with you couple recipes.
As so as it's winter time I think we need to warn a little bit and cook
Chocolate liqueur.
You'll need : 1 liter of water; 80 g bitter cocoa powder (70%); 200 g granulated sugar; 150 g alcohol (e.g. pure vodka, without flavorings); preparation time: 25 minutes
Infusion: 7 days.
Recipe:
1 Pour two cups of water into a deep saucepan and pour in the cocoa powder. Let it dissolve well, if necessary use a mixer to get rid of lumps.
2 Put the saucepan on the heat, pour in the sugar and the remaining water. Bring to a boil, turn down the heat and, without stopping stirring, cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes, until the liquid chocolate mass begins to thicken.
3 Then strain the chocolate mixture through a sieve, pour into a bowl and leave to cool.
4 Once the liquid chocolate mixture has cooled, mix it with the alcohol, bottle it and leave it to infuse in the fridge. The longer the liqueur will infuse, the more delicious it will be!
And you can also prepare chocolate liqueur with the flavor of oranges! To do this, you only need to replace the usual alcohol with vodka infused with orange peel. Peel three oranges, cut the peels into strips, put them in a bowl, add a spoonful of sugar and pour the alcohol, mix and let it infuse for a while - and basta, the base for your liqueur is ready!
Main meal - Duck in plums
I like this meal mostly for the combination of tender sweet-sweet duck meat and plums.
The preparation is simply elementary: 1 kg of duck (thighs or breast) chop into medium-sized pieces, cut off the fat, which especially protrudes and stands out. Fry in a very hot frying pan for a couple of minutes until crusty. Remove the pips from 10 plums. Put the duck and plums mixed together in a heatproof dish, pour 200 ml of red dry wine and 50 g of honey. Sprinkle with finely chopped bacon (130 g), throw a few sprigs of thyme, salt. Send to the oven (180 degrees) for 80 minutes, open a couple of times and pour the sauce over the duck. It will be very tasty with couscous or bulgur (mashed potatoes will work too, of course).
And for desert homemade apple pie.
Ingredients: 9 medium yellow apples; 120 g flour; 120 g granulated sugar; 1 egg + 1 yolk; 80 g melted butter;1 sachet of leavening agent for dough; 1 cup of room temperature milk; 1 pinch of salt on your taste
Recipe:
1 Peel the apples and cut into thin slices as for a charlotte.
2 Melt the butter.
3 Lightly grease a baking dish with butter, place a layer of apples, sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, then drizzle with 1 tablespoon of butter. Repeat in the same sequence two more times, using all the apples.
4 In a bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, egg yolk, dough leavening, salt and milk, beating lightly with a mixer until smooth.
5 Pour the resulting mixture over the apples and put in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 45-60 minutes, till fully cooked.
Bon Appetite !
All this has made me hungry. This is a wonderful gift you've given us - food for the gods!
Happy Holidays!
So all in your hands๐ try to cook it ๐จโ๐ณ๐ฒ
Nice recipe
Nothing special in food but just like Diwali, we feel happy on Christmas, sing Jingle Bells all day, eat delicious food and watch any feel good Christmas movie!๐ช๐โโ๏ธ๐
The nice thing is that they can celebrate and that's important.
Happy Holidays!
Enjoy your Christmas, friend
Thank you for tingling our brains ๐๐ฅฐ, @ecency. It's real fun doing this.
In my culture, Christmas is all about celebrations. We do the celebrations many ways. I am a Yoruba lady of the Nigerian descent while my husband is from the Calabar tribe. We have different favorites ๐ฅฐ. The beautiful thing about this season is that we all have the liberty to celebrate with whatโs our favorite.
The celebrations is mostly that feasting with most cherished delicacies in our culture and some intercontinental dishes to. As a Yoruba lady, I can't ignore Amala with well cooked ewedu soup this season ๐. I know my husband cherishes his traditional Afang soup and coconut rice. I have already led down plans on how those would be available in my home.
I might not have enough money to buy the ingredients needed to prepare these delicacies which are the favorite recipes in my home and I won't think of powering down the little Hive power I have all because of Christmas, so I have been laying one stone at a time to make my Christmas a happy one.
We love chicken for Christmas meals, so I have been nursing a few birds to have a cheaper output. My husband and I have acquired a few clothes to make the children happy. Thank God for the bonanza sales that some company made exhibitions around the town. We were able to get some goodly footwear for the girls.
Many things make Christmas a fulfilled celebration. We usually visit with friends or they themselves visit us to exchange pleasantries. We share food and drinks together.
Also, we usually take the children out for recreational activities or whatever fun you might call it. We would visit some popular parks in town and let them have fun.
Christmas is just a season of merriment. I can't wait to see the 25th of December arrive. Wishing everyone here a yuletide Christmas season. Have fun!
Merry Christmas @melinda and the entire #ecency team. You were the life wire of my hive blockchain progress this year. Thank you very much for everything. More successes in the coming year. Cheersโค๏ธ๐บ๐พ๐๐ฅฐ๐ฒโ๐ง๐ฅ๐ง๐ฆ๐ฅ๐ป
Celebrating this time of year means eating what we love the most. It's good that you are making an effort to have those dishes that the family loves. They will surely enjoy them and your husband will be happy. May everything good, everything you long for be fulfilled.
Happy Holidays!
Amen. Thank you for your best wishes
I am from Venezuela, a wonderful tropical country with a great variety of landscapes, friendly people, and an immense and particular gastronomy. When the Christmas season arrives along with the cold, it provokes the urge to eat a lot. That's where those great dishes that I like come in.
One of them is the ham bread. A bread stuffed with smoked ham, bacon, stuffed olives, and raisins, bathed with caramel. Some people put cream cheese on it, I like it without cheese. I could eat it all my life, and if I accompanied it with coffee, much more. My daughter-in-law makes one that is like for the gods.
Another dish that fascinates me is chicken salad. It's a salad made with potatoes, carrots, and chicken or hen, all cooked separately. To this, we add mayonnaise, mustard, and salt. That's how I like it, that's how I prepare it. Others add apples and onions. When my mother was alive, she used to prepare a baked chicken with small potatoes for these dates that was delicious. That was super divine.
But the dish that drives me crazy is the hallaca. A cake similar to a tamale, but tastier. It is a corn flour dough filled with a stew that has tomatoes, onions, potatoes, carrots, beef, pork, chicken, and many other things that give it that particular taste. All this results in a phenomenal dish with many calories, butis very tasty. The hallaca can be accompanied by chicken salad and ham bread. These are the dishes or recipes that we prepare here at home every year-end.
Happy Holidays!
You really have fascinating dishes over there. Have a merry Christmas.

Snow, at least on Christmas Day, for the magic.
Friends gathered around the table, warm and cozy.
A good wine (or a non-alcoholic drink, depending on oneโs religion).
Delicious sausage (or dried beef, depending on oneโs religion).
And cherished memories.
Best wishes
Christmas for me has a special flavor. My family is used to prepare the best dishes for that occasion. I'm from Cuba. And in Christmas all families sit around to eat together. We always have pork and a Cuban typical delicious way to make rice: "congrรญs" (rice and beans together), red wine, tomatoes, lettuce and cucumber salad, candies, and other desserts, we always invite some friends of us to share. We have this tradition since grandma. She gave us the "how to condiment" with love, kindness and gratefulness. And every year we have a new one to try. My mother really loves cooking and she always give her best in the kitchen.
Thanks for this question. It invite us to really appreciate what we have in our plates. ๐๐๐ฅฐ
Best wishes
Thanks!!
I don't actually have one.
Okay!๐....sure?
Alright my favorite Christmas recipe i would say it all started from childhood till now, maybe thats why it is my favorite, just loved the combination so much...
RICE & STEW WITH FRIED CHICKEN ๐๐
As simple as it looks, as been my favourite christmas recipe, not like i don't have anyother time, but maybe cause of how we all cherish the recipe from childhood days, like there's a spirit of Christmas that makes it all looks so special, delicious and yummicious ๐๐๐...
Simple white Rice and Stew with fried chicken, first we per boil the white rice, then prepare the stew, while this is going on, i'm preping the live chicken, after dissecting and wash it thoroughly, marinate the chicken, then steam for few minutes we then us that stock water to cook the stew, while frying the chicken.
IT'S always such a memorable time and moment of the year to have all family members seat round table eating and having a great time, and most time we add Salad To The menu
#ecency #adventcalender #day14
without a doubt the Hallacas and the Ham Bread
I've never considered recipe for Christmas. Oftentimes it's just the rice and stew and the aroma that travel around notifying nearby that the festive has begun.
Hello everyone
My favorite Christmas meal is Jollof rice, chicken and plantain.
As an African and a Nigerian this is one of the commonest food you find in every home.
The process of making it is very simple but technical. Every step of it very important and should be done carefully else it will alter the taste.
The aroma is very attractive that you can perceive it from a long distance and trace it using the same means.
Christmas is a moment of love so here we gather and celebrate with lots of food and drinks with families and friends exchanging gifts and hugs.
Its always a moment of Joy and I always anticipate my smoky jollof rice every year
Thank you
Here is my simple recipe of Ecency Chaud :)

My Christmas recipe, I really can't lay a hands on what exactly it is, but you see that joy of sharing a class of red wine with my family is my best Christmas recipe.
