I started out on top of the Porcupine Mountains. There are many different trails to lead you through the Porcupine Mountain wilderness. Here are a few scenes from my hikes in the Northwoods in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for this #wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay
Then I wend down to the river below. There were quite a few marshes to walk through fortunately there were quite a few
Eventually you end up in the thick forest below the mountain.
All sorts of ferns and plants are thick around the paths in the forest.
There are a few lakes below. These are nice and clear and you can swim in them to cool off after hiking for so long. Though this day it was quite cold so I didn't end up swimming.
Eventually the trail took me to the black river with all sorts of waterfalls along the path on the edge of the river.
Many of these waterfalls are quite large and loud. Some of them have little wooden walkways to look out over the river, then on the other side of the river there is a fully natural pathway with steep inclines.
There is even a spot where you can cross over the river to the other side.
I took this picture from the hanging bridge that crossed over the river. There were interesting swirling bowl shaped formations on the left edge of the waterfall where the water cut through the stone.
That's all for this #wednesdaywalk thanks for looking :-)
Wow that view to start the post is amazing as is all the views in your post, such refreshing scenery
Love the ferns they remind me of Back home in New Zealand
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk
Yeah there were many different kinds of fern species in the forest. I probably hiked a good 10 miles that day, there are even camping spots for backpackers who want to stay in the wilderness for a few days.
Wow that’s a good hike and cool there are spots to camp overnight
They have little places to hang up your food so the bears don't raid the campground.
Well sure wouldnt want Bears visiting LOL
So far I haven't seen any up there, the only place I ran into bears was in Arizona numerous times. They showed this at the main visitor center before going into the wilderness.
I have bene lucky never have run into a Bear, but years ago on exercise in Malaysia I did get uncomfortably close to a tiger, lucky it wasnt interested in us and it moved on

Beautiful picture.
Thanks it is hard not to get good pictures up there everything looks so nice.
Hmmmmm, indeed your Wednesday walk was amazing, so you take a Walk to all these places today, wish I was the one going to all this place.. hehehehe.
If I'm the one I'm going to swim when I get to the lake side to cool down my body, or is the sun is not hot today?? I never can tell
Why did you call it the black river? The river is black or what???
You really spent a good time in Upper Peninsula of Michigan!. I #dreem to be there too🤩
Yeah the water was warm enough to swim but the wind was really cold. The black river is full of iron, copper and other minerals so the water gets really dark. Then right next to it is the presque isle river which is also full of minerals. It is totally worth going to this place especially around August since it will be warm enough to swim.
Hawu, thanks for taking your time to explain to me, I've never been to the place before.
Yeah , it will be a nice place to pay a visit to
Someday I will have to be tough and go up there during the winter... This is what happens to the waterfalls during winter up there
Oh my gosh!!! For real?? Wondering how you'll manage to climb up there.
If I were to be there , I will be so scared... hehehehe
Must be cool crossing that hanging bridge.W O W @sketch.and.jam , what a beauty!!!
Yeah I was too distracted to take a picture of it because of the waterfall below.
Nice scenery and just beautiful hanging bridge 👌
Thanks 😊
Wow...I wish I could have shown this to my wife a month ago! I've been trying for years to get her to agree to a vacation in the UP, especially that area by the Porcupines...somehow I always get overruled...somehow...
It is perfect there in fall, definitely worth going. There are a few lodges and resorts to stay at if she doesn't want the harsh camping conditions that me and my fiance experienced lol. It was cold and rainy one day fortunately our tent kept the water out. Fortunately that only lasted one day and the rest were cloudy and sunny.
NIce, yeah I can't wait to visit that area. We try to rent a cabin for a week on the Great Lakes once a year...I really thought she'd go for the UP this year, but Grand Marais won out again.
Yeah that one is on my list to go to someday. The hiking looks really good up there, I bet the food might be better too lol. There are basically no good restaurants in the UP standard pizza and burgers everywhere in a bar setting.
Oh yeah...sounds like Northern Wisconsin. Pizza, burgers, beers...I used to live up by Wausau, and anything north of there was always interesting for bars.
Grand Marais does have some really good restaurants, and the hikes up there are sweet. I would love to own a cabin up there someday, but that seems expensive - lol. Maybe when I can retire off of Bitcoin, I'll do it
Hopefully bitcoin will pay off or they could end up regulating it to death, I'm trusting the math/scarcity for now.
me too - I do believe new ATHs will happen in the next few years. Then I can travel and take photos for a living (or pretend to, and not have to worry about cash).
Man. This is quite an experience you had this Wednesday. The porcupine leaves a lot of good memories.
The adventure into the thick forest is another escapade.
I love that torrent from the waterfall. It is just another shape like the one I am used to seeing here in Africa.
You know, I had expected to see one porcupine hugging out from the woods but none appeared at the end of this expedition.
The wilderness experience is one thing I would love to try out. On a second thought, I hope there hasn't been an attack from wild animals though.
Nice Wednesday walk you had here.
#dreemer
I was really hoping to see a porcupine as well. I think they are mostly nocturnal though and hide away in the thick forest during the day. But if you do end up spotting one they don't really run away too fast and you can get a decent look at them. Maybe next time I go there I'll be lucky to spot one. The only scary animals that could attack would be bears and that is only if you have alot of food with you that they would smell.
Bears? That's really going to be scary. I haven't seen on except in the movies.
Yeah they are startling when you see them but they usually don't attack if you make loud noises and act aggressive. But if you have food in your tent while you sleep then they will try and eat everything in the tent including you.
Then I would dare going to the territory they use as habitat.
You just need to take your food and put it in a bag then hang it high up in a tree, then the bears will leave you alone. They really just want your food but if they find it next to you they go into an eating frenzy.
Oh, what a beauty @sketch.and.jam 🤗
A wonderful walk through such magical greenery ...🥰
It was really nice. I was hoping to find more mushrooms but I think the season was a bit too early. I found quite a few though for this #fungifriday.
I believe you are, but I think we can now wait for autumn to find a few more mushrooms ...
It is important that the walk was beautiful🥰
My only hope now is to find summer oysters and chanterelles.
Those swirls are cool! We have a similar thing a few towns north called the potholes.
If the water was warmer there were a few of those potholes that looked like they would be fun to sit in and just swirl around in.
Wow such an amazing trail and such wonderful pictures. I love the last one.
Wish I could take a trek here.
The northwoods are full of places like this, thick forests and waterfalls. Though in some areas the mosquitos can be a bit rough, definitely have to bring the bug spray.

Thanks, I'll have to do a camping post from this experience.
This place is just like my hometown
Full of green, quiet and peaceful. Am also a person who loves hiking and what a fabulous place this is for hikers....
Keep an eye out for mushroom that grow in your area and post them to the fungi lovers community. One of the main reasons I went here was to look for edible mushrooms.
