I hope that's not the only flavour of music in your sound library.

Certainly isn't. I'm also obsessed with (and I'm not ashamed to admit this) Taylor Swift's early work, and the complete catalogue of Florence and the Machine.

There's much eclectic in my play list.

All I can think of when it comes to Taylor Swift is red dress. Florence and the Machine is a yes.

Garbage?
Dead Can Dance?
Nina Simone?
Nils Petter Molvær?
Sean Ryan, particularly with ATB?

Garbage = Yes

The rest of your list, haven't heard of at all.

The rest of the list, if you like trumpet, well, this man, Nils Petter Molvaer, has some kind of magic going on and literally makes his trumpet talk.

I'm a sucker for vocals and especially, the minor d scale, particularly when played on a guitar :D

That's why metal dominates - it uses that scale a lot.

That's so impressively specific. There's only three things I don't like in terms of music. Selection is dependent on the present moment. About 95 percent of the time now, I only listen to whatever sounds are around me.

That's some good shit right there! When I first heard Nina Simone I thought I have a stroke :D
Garbage is just must have on playlist next to Siouxsie And The Banshees.
With Dead Can Dance I can go for weeks, Sean Ryan is too mellow for me tbh, but lovely voice, Nils Petter Molvær is perfectly decadent!

😂 Nina Simone....oh what can I say, yeah, first time I heard her she got me forever.

I've listened to Siouxsie And The Banshees but I don't think I have any of theirs in my collection.

Dead Can Dance are in their own category. Saw them live once and well, of all the concerts I've been to, that was the only one that defies description, other than to say it was like going on a journey while being part of the actual music. Transcending the ordinary. So hard to describe.

Sean Ryan mellow, yes, but as you noted, it's his voice, kind of blew my mind when I heard it. Perhaps if he had the space to develop the way he wants, he'd grow into more.

Nils (NPM) is a new one to me as of last year. I remember listening to his music for a couple minutes (online dj friend) and thinking, Who is this man who makes magic with a trumpet? 😂

I'm afraid to get into a conversation about music because I know that way I'll be stuck on the hive for hours :D

Agree to all what you've said. I actually remember when I've heard Chuck Mangione first time, and it actually hit me, how ingenious trumpet as as musical instrument is and how many ways it can be used by a talented musician:)

I'm afraid to get into a conversation about music because I know that way I'll be stuck on the hive for hours :D

Ha! I'm guilty of extended conversations with just about anything. I have always limited how much time in front of a screen to balance that out. Don't know why, something about the tech itself causes me to feel unwell if using it for too long.

Yes, that's right about a trumpet. It's a bit deceptive that's it's just this instrument until it shines in gifted hands. Wind instruments in particular fascinate me, probably because I suck badly when attempting to play them.

I don't really understand the Tylor Swift hype. I like Florence though. 'Heavy in my arms' I think it was first song I have heard form her :)

Miss Welch is a force of nature. She's a hurricane of a human being and had an incredible aura when I was lucky enough to see her live a few years ago.

Her exploration of water in all her work is fascinating. The historical references, amazing; and the story telling fills my mind with such vivid pictures. It's so inspirational.

I want the song "No Choir" to be played at my funeral one day. Dang it, typing that brought tears to my eyes after going and reading the lyrics. I'm stupid! :D

No worries! I have long lasting crash on Thom York from Radiohead. I admire his compositional talent, how well he plays piano especialy, his lyrics, his stage behaviour.

From time to time I move my admiration to Ian Curtis of Joy Division, and then I come back to Thom again:)

But Florence is indeed something!

his lyrics,

I'm a creep, I'm a weird-ooooo

his stage behaviour.

What the hell am I doing here? I don't belong here...

Joy Division

I like the name more than the music :D

Mark me if you will, it will not change my feelings!

Joy Division - have you heard the story of the name - it is quite gruesome...

Indeed!
"Keep your distance, walk away, don't take his bait.
Don't you stray, don't fade away.
Watch your step, he's out to get you, come what may.
Don't you stray, from the narrow way"🤟

I see the clouds are gone
The storm that raged is quiet once again
I feel the stars above
Shining on the fragments that remain

Some of the best nine minutes of "metal" you'll ever hear.

I find Unleash the Archers amazing, but I definitely prefer male voices over over female ones, sorry!
But I actually like melodic death metal and folk metal too, especially scandinavian bands, that actually sounds like roaring mad vikings:)

I tend to gravitate toward the big "goth" symphonic metal; I love the contrast between soprano female vocals and the typical death growls. It is densely packed with stimuli which takes a bit to unpack, and that's why I enjoy the mix of both female and male vocals in my mainstay listening list. :)

I too am a big fan of things with male voices, and melodic metal is one of the most wonderful genres. It's like classical, but on complicated instruments of modernity. :D

There's so many roaring mad viking bands. I like some of the dwarf and pirate ones. They're amusing (and fascinating) that it seems to be a cosplay and a theatre show, intersected with specific musical styles.

There's two types of people, those who are magnetic, and those that aren't. The ones that listen to metal tend to be magnetic.

At least now I know why you're a magnetic person :) (Apart from all of our other common interests!)

You opened the box of wonders my friend!
Music is an inseparable part and great love of my life. I never go anywhere without my headphones. The accompaniment of music is absolutely necessary for me to exist.
I always go for metal, regardless of my mood, any other kind of music has to have its place and time. I wouldn't be able to say what my favourite type or band is. I'm like a sponge. There was a time when I listened with religious fervour to Lacrimosa (swiss band) and when I couldn't go without Blind Guardian records, and there were other times when I milled about with Slayer, but only the live albums are my favourites.

About magnetic power - I totally agree, it happens to me frequently. I find common language and interest with some person, we cannot stop talking, and there is a topic of music... and we match! There is something, right?! It has to be:)

I care much about female voices in symphonic metal actually, I adore Therion, old albums especially. 'Lemuria' is on about every playlist I have :D

I was going to mention Therion when I was typing the above comment. My favourite one is "Secret of the Runes". I can't understand a word that is uttered on that album, because I don't know those languages, but fucking hell damn it; its all gorgeous instrumentation and atmosphere.

Regarding Lemuria - I never got beyond the Sirius B side of that (what I think) was a double album - and furthermore, I never really got beyond "The Blood of Kingu", because its just... so metal - in the old fashioned way, but with a ton more sophistication.

I drove my wife to the store so we could get cookies about 20 minutes ago, I stayed in the car and listened to metal while she went in and got stuff, and just watched all the people glancing suspiciously in my direction as they walked passed. It was fun. :)

Therion, yes!
I will never be able to really appreciate all the bands and their achievements, and this fact sadden me to the depths. There is just not enough time! I hate it!
Plus, there are books to read, films to watch, operas, galleries to visit... I would love to have more time, really. One, maybe 2 more lives at least :)

I can only imagine what was going on in the minds of those poor pedestrians.
Bearded ominous figure accompanied by butchered guitars...
