Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to talk about trying to write down my dreams, and why.
Dream, Dream Dream
I was listening to a podcast the other day, which is something I do every single day, and one of the things he talked about, I found quite interesting: writing down our dreams.
Some of you might think "well duh dumbass, you don't write down your dreams?" and you would probably be correct. I know a lot of people have gotten into the habit of writing down their dreams, but apparently I'm a slow adopter in terms of that type of stuff. This guy had all kinds of mental improvements he made since he got in the habit of writing them down. I figured it was about time I got into that game!
The guy, Boyo is the name of his podcast, is really fascinating on the psychological side and brings some pretty heavy topics and discussions. He also does a lot on the health and wellness side, but from his own unique perspective. He focuses more on optimization than other things and I think that's awesome.
The reason he did this was because he ran into issues getting out of the mental mess that schools end up leaving most people in. We get very bland and blah after attending the contemporary school system for over a decade of our lives. Understandably, it is important to eventually figure out how to detox our brains from that chaos and disaster, and this guy found a pretty good way to do that.
When we dream, it is debated what our brain is doing in that activity. Is it using a type of DMT, the hallucinogenic drug, to alter our state of consciousness? Or is it a connection to one of the other planes of existence or dimensions? I don't think we will find out that information for another few years or decades, depending on how things go scientifically. What we can do though is see the differences in our brains before, during and after a dream and how we process it.
The notion Boyo was conveying is that dreams are our subconscious connecting to our conscious brains and working together to display a bit of a movie, which we call dreams. Pretty fascinating stuff chemically and biologically to be honest! For the way that Boyo is interpreting it, which I think I would agree with, is that when we wake up, we remember the best parts of our dreams but we don't remember the whole thing because it fades like a mist, the more our conscious brain takes over and the subconscious gets subdued throughout the day. By mid-morning, most people forget the dream they had entirely. I am one of those people!
With Boyo, he found that when he started writing his dreams down, he remembered them better over time. This also increased the strength of the dreams, almost like having a DMT or shrooms experience. This was profound for him because after he had been doing it consistently for several months, he found that he was finding the "spark" in his life and energy again. He didn't feel that life was boring, depressing and mundane. The subconscious and conscious working together more actively helped him see the beauty of the world and become more creative himself, which he was when he was a kid before the depressing environment of schools subdues us creatively and spiritually.
I don't think I have many challenges in this regard, compared to who I was listening to, but I do think that it would be great to be more connected to my subconscious and see what types of creativity I might unlock. It could end up just being a load of horse shit, and I write down my dreams for fun future reading to see what kind of mental shit my brain was going through at the time. I don't know, but I find the notion interesting and it's not a big deal to try and write down your dreams as soon as you woke up, to reflect back on later.
What about you, do you think writing down your dreams might be a beneficial thing? Let me know in the comments!

That is pretty interesting. I don't remember most of my dreams even right after I wake up, so I don't think I would be able to write them down anyway. Working in public education I don't think it is quite as bad as most people make it out to be. It's not perfect, but we are really just doing the best we can with what the government is forcing on us.
Yeah I have only written down 3 of my dreams so far, I've skipped a bunch of them because I don't have time with my son and all that. It's fun to write them down though! I will eventually write some of them to the chain, just gotta get a bunch written and see where it lands.
I think the school system largely depends on where you are living. Overall, the system is modeled after the Prussian military model to produce factory workers and people who think minimally but can repeat random bits of information instead of thinking for themselves.
John Taylor Gatto wrote about it quite extensively and well, and he was a brilliant public school teacher but eventually gave up on the corrupt system.
The school system works beautifully for it's intended purpose - producing drones. For producing critical and free-thinkers though, it is quite poor.
I was a product partially of the public school system myself, and it has sadly only degraded over time.
I'm pretty proud of what we do here in my district. The rules and regulations make it hard sometimes, but we do our best.
Hmm, there are still many debates about dreams—what they mean and why we dream. Recently, I've been having vivid dreams, most of which, I think, aren’t related to my conscious thoughts. Or maybe I’m not sure. I don’t really know how to interpret them anyway.
But it was interesting to read how writing dreams in a journal helped Boyo. Have you started doing that? What was your dream about?
I think you should probably write your dreams down after you have them. It would be good to then look back at what you wrote after a few weeks and figure out if there are any reasons you can discern from it. It can't hurt, that's for sure!
I've written down a couple of my dreams so far, one was about old friends I had and the other one was about something a little random. I don't have anything extensive yet but I'm certainly going to keep on writing them!
Good thing you’re having pleasant dreams. Mine was vivid and a bit scary. I dreamt I was walking through a dark park when I suddenly felt like someone was following me. As soon as I started running, it chased after me. Luckily, I came across someone passing by who helped me. That’s where my dream ended, haha!
The natural beauty is extraordinary.
Yeah I've been pretty lucky to visit such places!
Fever Dream...
My unexplained dream is a reoccurring nightmare when I am ill. I am in a rowboat in a hurricane being tossed about in the monster waves and drowning. I wake gasping and trying not to throw up from the dizzy seasickness feeling. 🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮
Aren't you glad I shared that with you... 😅😂😅😂😂🤣🤣🤣😳😳😳
Yeah I need to write down some of my frequent dreams. I have a couple that I get every so often, I don't remember them right now but when I have them, I wake up thinking "ah I had that one again".
I wonder what that consistent dream means to you mentally. I wonder if you're trying to get over something, that's what it seems like, but you keep getting tossed backwards when you are close to getting to the top and overcoming it.
That's my couch session, hope you enjoyed it.
Thanks Dr. Feelgood. 😆
That will cost you 1,500$ Or a shipment of Florida orange blossom honey, thanks.
well that is a way to make the dream comes true isn't it, at least it gives us energy to pursue it. Maybe I should start writing them down, and putting it somewhere the all of my house.
I have heard about a similar thing, to visualized your dream, but I always think that is is only a way for the fake motivator to get the attention, at lest from my younger self, since I heard about it when I was a teenager. haha
maybe I should start to take a new approach on that idea.
have a great day man. : )
Yeah I think if someone is trying to sell you some bullshit program of self discovery or something, ignore it. But there are other people that are trying to get us to expand ourselves to different potentials and I think something as easy and basic as writing down our dreams can unlock some stuff in our brains! I'm definitely going to give it a try, it can't hurt lol.
My only challenge is that I have to do it on my phone. I don't love that, but it's better than nothing.
Yes, definitely interesting stuff. I find it quite hard to write down my dreams right after waking up, because I'm not fully awake yet. Used to make it a sport to remember many parts of my dream by being silent and motionless right after waking up, then somehow store it somewhere on my conscious mind, with the hopes of creating a link between the subconscious and conscious mind.
Yeah I hear you on that, I do it once I wake up when it's the clearest in my mind. An hour later it's largely done sadly.
Creating the link between the conscious and subconscious is definitely an art form! There are lots of accounts of people allowing themselves to go into a pyschadelic state from meditation and mind focusing. Pretty wild stuff!
Exactly, it's like a different yet kind of familiar world opens in front of us when we're able to create a link between the two, to enter that state at will is probably the peak of mind mastery!
