Hey Hustlers
So I've decided to join the crew and drop by with my first bit of hustler content and show my support for the community. As a hustler myself, going on four years, I've had to learn the hard way. No money from daddy, no loans, no venture capital, just me and my little bank account and a will to make something for myself, that's the spirit of hustling at work.
Marketing is a big part of the hustle, reaching new consumers, remaining old ones you're still around and creating a healthy churn of people willing to give you money for your goods and services.
In the digital world, we now find ourselves in most marketing is done online either through paid ads or social media being the popular channels.
The follower fallacy
We often laud over businesses and individuals with thousands of followers but what many don't realise is you cannot reach all your followers without money, these platforms restrict you to well less than 10%, and the bigger you go it can even get down to 2% if you want to reach more you gotta pay to play.
That is also no guarantee that any of your followers are going to turn into customers, and it also means I got to folk out money each time I want to reach them. As a hustler, you want to cut costs and go direct, which is why email and IM's are to me the better way to go.
I would honestly have 1000 emails over 10 000 or even 100 000 followers on my social media. I've got a social media account with 40 000 followers + and an email list of 4 004 and guess which channel brings in more traffic; you bet email.
Turn your attention to direct communication
Emails and phone numbers are the commodities of today in marketing; it's our gold, it's our real estate, its how cash flow tool. The more of it you can collect, the more likely you are to turn a profit. Not every user visiting your store or site will buy in the first visit, so if they are not going to give you a purchase, the least they can do is give you a way to reach them.
Making sure your site and social media divert users to sign up and leave their content information is super crucial for any hustler, if I can't convert you now, I can convert you later.
Emails are not only for emailing
In the modern world of digital marketing emails can be used for more than spamming inboxes I can use it to target you via remarketing across the web or via social media sites like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. You can use the email database to upload it into these sites and reach users with targetted messaging or use the email database to map similar audiences you want to attract to join your database or buy from you in the future.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you can't get a sale, at least get their email address.
Have your say

This post is definitely one of the best of the week, and I'll be including it in the weekly @hivehustlers curation post! Expect it to go live within the next couple days.
Thanks, thought I'd give the hive hustle the good old college try and share some of my hustle learnings, glad you enjoyed this one and thanks for including it in our weekly summary
Yeah email is basically real estate and if you're going to pay for an ad on social media it should point to a way to sign up for x,y,z. E.g in my case, sign up for a free download then you have their address and direct contact vs social media which I know limits who can see my posts, sometimes doesn't show it to any one at all!

Yeah there are great ways to encourage email sign ups like freebies like ebooks, checklists, playlists and recommendations!
All ads are is renting digital space, isn’t a bad thing but you also need to look at building your own home and owning your piece of the internet
They say of VC funded companies $0.40 of every dollar they make goes into Facebook and google! That’s nuts, time to take away some of that land
Damn son! 40% of your revenue goes back to FB and Google! Jeez, could stack a ton of sats for that!
I spend about 50% of what I earn from Google ads on Google ads for myself lol, whatever I get I throw at them and try to go grow as much as possible within a reason. I tried some FB ads lately for myself, hasn't done anything lol will probably cut it off this month
I did try FB ads a couple of years ago and although it got me a load more followers, you have to keep churning out money to pay for FB to show your content to your followers so I cut off those ads a while back seeing as 50% of 0 sales is, well... expensive haha!
Literally email lists / drip campaigns comprise 90% of what my IRL work involves - so this post is spot on. You hit the nail right on the head with the importance of a good, healthy list.
The key is to prune, nurture, and ensure your list is in peak health at all times for maximum results.
Great piece, rehiving.

Absolutely, it’s not just about collecting emails you have to segment, review open rates and click through rates, split between CRM and EDM mails, track your click through as and improve your list health or you’ll end up in spam boxes more often
Yep +100%!

Great information, email and building your list is a huge key to being successful in doing any form of business these days. Your list is your business no matter what you promote.
Absolutely, couldn’t have said it better myself! If people put half as much effort into building a mailing list as they do following on social many might figure this out
I agree 100% man. When it comes to always having a reliable traffic and income stream, you really can't go wrong with Email as there are many examples of people essentially making passive income all thanks to having a decent email list.
Indeed, and you have full control over when you want to pull the trigger, you own the data and you can personalise messaging and learn more about your user base with the data you collect. I think with apps like Mailchimp everyone should be using it I mean under 2000 addresses is free, if you keep your database clean you can keep doing that for some time before you need to pay
It is proven many times that email lists are the best friends of affiliate marketers... There is no secret about that...
Great post! Thanks for sharing!

Oh man, with affiliate marketing you can make a killing, connect buyers with sellers but never give the sellers the full control, same way social media does to us, that way you just keep that profit machine going
