But wait, there's more!

  • Every Grand Prize ballot holder will receive SCHOLAR tokens equal to their number of ballots. If you've been participating in the weekly giveaways up to this point, you may already have as many as 5! Reminder: Giveaway #5 is still open until Sunday, May 15.
  • If you win one of the token prizes (DEC, SPS, STARBITS, PIZZA, SCRIBE) and you're a member of Scholar and Scribe, you'll also get an SBI sponsorship unit. Every unit of SBI gives you a chance for the SBI program to upvote your future Hive posts. The more units you have, the bigger the vote value. Learn more about Hive SBI here.
  • โ€ก The markets are wacky these days, and Hive price is in flux. So these values might change hour by hour. The prices of the two Starlight Spectre NFTs were based on the SWAP.ETH price, as these two NFTs are on Polygon (priced in WETH).
  • โ€กโ€ก The PageDAO minter prize: I will help format a story of yours that you'd like minted on Polygon, producing up to 1,000 NFTs that can be sold for WETH. Anyone can access this minter by paying the minimum membership fee of 50 MATIC (+gas). This prize gives you a one-off mint for free! (Requires an ETH wallet address, e.g. Metamask.)

๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ๐Ÿคฉ HOW TO GET BALLOTS ๐Ÿคฉ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ

(Method 1) Simply leave a comment in this post that quotes your favourite line from Starlight Spectre. This can be from any of the parts! If you've already done this in previous giveaways, you already have some ballots (see below)

ย

โ–ถ๏ธ Here's a link to the start of the story.

๐Ÿ“œ Here's a link to a list of all the story parts.

ย

(Method 2) Extra ballots! Give me some feedback on this project. Some things I'm particularly curious about:

  • Did the parts come out quick enough?
  • Were the parts a good length?
  • Did these giveaways inspire you to read or discover the story?

ย
I'll award extra ballots (1 or 2) based on how in-depth your feedback is. You can combine feedback and your favourite quote in one comment if you wish ๐Ÿ™‚.

โ— Winners will be announced in the final post, likely next Friday (payout of this post). You must reply to that post to claim your prize (helps prevents bots and whatnot). โ—

Rules and other things

  • Upvotes / reblogs on this post or the story posts are appreciated, but not necessary for entry. Note: The Scholar and Scribe community account will receive 25% beneficiary from this post's payout ๐Ÿ™‚
  • Only one entry per account per giveaway
  • Deadline to enter = payout of this post
  • To be eligible for the SBI sponsorship, you must be subscribed to the Scholar and Scribe community here on Hive
  • The 13 winners will be chosen by random draw. I'll start with the lower value prizes first. Each ballot you have will = instance of your name on a prize wheel.
  • You can't win a major prize more than once (if you win, all names will be removed from the wheel).
  • Winners will be announced in the final post of this project
  • โ— To claim a prize, you will need to respond to the winner announcement post

Attention @henruc โ€ข @indiebandguru โ€ข @JoniMarqu โ€ข @susurrodmisterio โ€ข @luizeba ~ You are the winners of Giveaway #5! Please respond to this comment to claim your tasty prize of 50 ๐Ÿ• PIZZA tokens, 5 SCHOLAR, and possibly an SBI unit ๐Ÿ™‚. Since this announcement isn't as visible as the others, I'll remind y'all again in the grand prize giveaway if you happen to miss this. Congrats!!

Wow, thank you. Excited to win this!
And to keep reading more of your writing.

You are most welcome! I'm pretty sure I'll be kicking off an even bigger serialization as early as today so stayed tuned ๐Ÿ˜‰ ~ prize receipts are below:

https://he.dtools.dev/tx/6e26ecec6574f43ab62eac93e050f32d4452cbac https://he.dtools.dev/tx/780ba56b848af92522227e8aa88d5870bc9777b3 https://hiveblocks.com/tx/18017bf0e67640603e9cb141882c2beaa0f90b78

I have to say that this is the moment that resonated the most deeply with me when I read it:

You realize much too late that youโ€™re not going to be making it to your destination after all, because the door wonโ€™t open and it hurts now, itโ€™s so hot. You scream. You scream as the fire strips away whatโ€™s human, louder as it gets into the animal of you.

It STILL gives me goosebumps reading it. So visceral.

As far as feedback is concerned, I felt that it was very well executed. The pacing of the story was good, with just enough action/suspense to keep your readers riveted without compromising the world building and scene setting. Never felt too fast or too slow, and every time I was left hungry to know what happened next, which kept me coming back for more. I think there was just the right amount of time between chapters, too. Kept me engaged for an extended period of time and gave me something to look forward to each week. All in all, very well done, my friend. I'm looking forward to seeing more from you!

Thank you for the detailed feedback here, and all along the way ๐Ÿ™‚ ~ it is very rewarding and validating to see folks expressing thoughts as they read through.

I'm going to keep the final phrase, for all that it represents:

He pressed down on the cool metal, closed his eyes, and listened.

About the questions. It seems to me that you found a good publication rhythm. The frequency is high, but the parts are short, and that allowed me to read them even on difficult days. It happens to me with other series that have too long parts that on a busy day I can't read them and the truth is that I don't come back to them afterwards (maybe it's a problem of mine, but I'm not in the habit of coming back to what I leave in the bookmarks...).
The giveways, to be honest, didn't inspire me to read the story or continue reading it. I find enough pleasure in the reading itself. Instead, they did serve me for something I may do with books, but I don't usually do in hive: reread. Going back over the posts to find the sentence that I liked the most (I took this task quite seriously), led me to a second reading that was less concerned with the plot and closer to the form, an experience more akin to reading poetry than prose. I think that was a great move on your part.
!PIZZA

Thank you for the detailed feedback. My instinct was to make the parts longer but seems most people like the 700โ€“1,000 word range!

I have to go with the closing line...

He pressed down on the cool metal, closed his eyes, and listened.

Thanks for hosting the giveaways, they were a great reminder to catch up on the parts I was behind on. The pacing of the the release schedule felt perfect to me. Admittedly I fell behind now and then ๐Ÿ˜€ As far as the length of each part goes those were also right on. Long enough to get a flow going, but not so long I couldn't complete it in under 10 minutes.

Thanks again for the giveaways, it has been a fun way to follow along with the story.

Thank you for the detailed feedback :)

count me in again!

โ€œAlways on time,โ€ whispered those alien lips.

The sky was dimming, and the night bugs were ramping up their songs as the old caretaker got down on the dirt and lowered his withered ear to the tracks.
I'm from a small town in Texas and very familiar with the night ugs and vibrations you can feel/hear on the tracks. I can see all this unfold very vividly.

I can say that I really did like how the story all came together and the pacing of it the post each week was very engaging.

!PIZZA

โ€œWoof, authentic aromatics, huh?โ€ Gabriella said as she marched in, fresh beer in one hand, mini flashlight in the other. She also sported a backpack with all her sleuthing gear, which was 50% beer.

I'm loving this story, I'm on part 5 now. I hope you will keep this going! I'm curious what happened to the people on the train.

Nice! It's a complete story, fully published up to part 17 her on Hive (or as a readable PDF/NFTbook) ๐Ÿ™‚

That's awesome ๐Ÿ™Œ I really should start publishing my Deadly Goddess series again too.

!PIZZA !ALIVE

He took a gulp of beer, which had long since warmed. It was still good though. โ€œWell, the one I remember best goes like this: you come to the old, haunted tracks, so you know youโ€™ve come too far and need to turn back. Else you can get lost or eaten by bears or whatever. But the dare is always to walk the tracks, and if you do it at midnight, and put your ear to the ground, you can still hear the old rumble of the ghost train. If youโ€™re luckyโ€ฆ or unlucky I guess, youโ€™ll see it. A thin white streak. Like smoke, moving fast along the tracks, coming from the east. If you do see it, get off the tracks as fast as you can.โ€

โ€œHell yeah!โ€ She popped out of her chair, announcing her requirement for pre-adventure bladder vacancy, and Barton decided he was probably in love.

I love the flow of the story. The length of the parts are nice and it can be finished in one sitting.

He hobbled to the spot where they said they had found the two curled up and asleep, among the crusted foundations of a long-gone destination. The sky was dimming, and the night bugs were ramping up their songs as the old caretaker got down on the dirt and lowered his withered ear to the tracks.

The parts were really good Length

!Gif GOOD LUCK

The way the story grows and the little plots along the way are what enchant me the most and make me want more. A very well constructed story, thank you for allowing us to read it.
My favorite part.

โ€œThey never made it,โ€ he said. He looked at the thing that used to be Gabby. She was still beautiful, even now. โ€œThey werenโ€™t on time. You werenโ€™tโ€ฆ on time.โ€

โ€œI canโ€™t, Iโ€™m sorry, Iโ€™m sorry,โ€ she said, sooty tears streaking down her cheeks. They shined orange-red in the firelight.

This moment, I thought it was the end.

Then the grip on his elbow pulled hard. His foot came loose, struck the edge of the track, and Barton fell. He heard himself howl as something hit him, as something surely killed him, the reality and weight and terror of death exploding all at once.

Were the parts a good length? Yup, they are in good length

โ€œAlways on time,โ€ whispered those alien lips. Then the eyes fluttered shut and Gabbyโ€™s little frame slouched to the side and began to snore. This time, he crawled forward and held her, best he could. She was cold as ice.
I'm almost done, I started part 12, I really enjoy your story, keep it up

!PIZZA

My favorite line is the one that says:

Barton wrote to Rudy sometimes. In the letters, he claimed that he and Gabby were still friends and chatted occasionally over social media, something that Rudy had heard about but had no inkling as to how to make it useful for him. Barton married some art curator, had a family, the whole deal. He never mentioned the tracks again.

Here is my entry line for this huge contest:

Her head snapped to the side, but her pace never wavered. He noticed her pupils had returned.

Feedback:
*The story is well prepared i.e. Plot, twists, characters' presentation, wording, ambience, story momentum, etc. (I have not gone through every part yet except reading those I mentioned quoted lines from, the last part, and skimming and scanning some posts.)

  1. I would love to read synopsis, plot outline, or brief mentions of what happened in the previous part. This helps me understand the story if I am a new reader and want to start from the middle of the story, like we see in a digest.
  2. 700 to 1000 words post becomes a 7 to 9 minutes read, a typically internet users average reading time spent on an article is about 2 to 3 minutes, but people in reading communities spend more than that, say from 5 to 8 minutes. I think that the story part should be balanced in terms of reading time, it should not be too lengthy and not too short, a 5 to 6 minutes read is fine.
  3. Publishing time between each story part should be around 5 to 6 days, if you are running a contest then it will be easy to engage your audience with both posts running along.

count me in @supriya.gupta

  1. I find the beginning of the eighth part particularly beautiful.

Summer drained away, marked by the presence of cool winds. The days had been getting shorter for a while, but it was around the time when one really began to notice.

Barton felt Gabriella draining away too.

  1. To improve your initiative, I can think of an interwoven story where the reader chooses between different possibilities through the links and, depending on the choice he/she makes, the story has several endings.

Tears ran down her face now, and the temperature kept falling. The panic in the air around him started to thin out, diluting as she cried, becoming something caught between sorrow and anxiety.

As for feedback;
I hate having to wait haha so I preferred to wait for your weekly ping make myself some time and read all new chapters all at once.
Every part is so well written that each and every one of them let me hungry for more, so in that sense, more length is welcome so that we can have a few more minutes of joy. I even kept a tab opened to find easily on my phone.
Definitely the giveaway inspired me. In fact, at the beggining I tried to cheat and read only one part just to participate ๐Ÿ˜… but then I just couldn't help myself, I loved it.

Hope to read more from you soon!

Just ignore my feedback, its brief anyway. I like more backstory with anything hinting not quite being of this world. But thats just me and would have probably had your just right read being too slow. So keep doing what you do!
