Slowly getting back in shape again

in #self2 years ago

It has been years since I've been doing exercises. 8 years maybe? I'm blessed with a fast metabolism, so I could eat whatever I want for years. But after hitting my 30 years, things started to change quite a bit. I think the most 'shocking' body transformation I went through, was during my depression. I didn't eat, sleep or move. So, you can imagine how 'thin' I was getting. That changed rapidly once I started to feel better. I ate more, still didn't move though, but I started to slowly take care more of myself day after day. To the point, I was just snacking bags of chips seconds after I finished my dinner. Not that I got extremely fat. But I did see my abs diminishing over time.

This Tweet of @theycallmedan kinda motivated me to write about it. While I don't have a before picture of getting back in shape. I have a pretty 'confronting' selfie that I made eexactly for "how I was when I got here" vs "How I left".

Lol... you can tell how friggin' exhausted I am here. Cudos to myself for exposing myself like this on-chain 🤣.

But don't worry, no need to prepare your nightmares, this is me after just a week of being in Turkey. I'm still tired, but I can see a lot more change for the better.

So, what's the story?

At a young age, I started doing sports. Gymnastics. I won my first -first-place- prize in 1995, at the age of 7. I continued doing gymnastics for a couple of years but I got interested in many other sports for the years to come. Basketball, badminton, swimming, handball, but I found a passion in breakdance. It had everything to keep me in check, motivated, and pushed me to expand my (body) limits. Pushing myself was something that grew on me during the time of Dragonball Z's television debut. I was a huge fan of it and started doing an insane amount of pushups and sit-ups. Like, a few thousand a day lol.

And it kinda showed I guess... can't believe how fit I used to be and the way how I took it for granted.

Let's get fit again!

So, now I'm here in Turkey, I thought it was about time to get motivated and get on the move again. I started slowly with some 10-minute performance cardio and light-weighted dumbbells. I never went to the gym, breakdance was my gym. Full body control bruh. But yeah, I'm all new to these exercises, but I made a couple of friends here that invited me to train with them. These squads I was doing for the first time in my life... I can't walk anymore lol :D.

I probably won't do updates on my transformation, but maybe before I get back to Holland, I might give it a shot :).

One of the life lessons that I have to learn is to "love myself" more. If I put it like this, with selfies like this, it almost sounds and looks cringe I know, but to be honest, if we all were to do so, the place around us would be a much nicer place to roam around in.

Cheers,
Ruben

Thats awesome that you are doing what you need to do for your body. My 30s were a stage in my life where my body really began breaking down. The past 2 years, I have really started to focus on my diet and making sure to get exercise. Now in my 40s, I am in the best shape of my life. We gotta take care of our bodies or we wont last long here on Earth.

Yeah man! I have been sitting idle for too long. 6 years at least. Time travels fast, and it feels good to have a bit more energy stored again. Still, my body has to get used to all the exercise, but my brain is still thinking "oh, lets do this and that... wait a minute, wtf is this?" XD

Siempre el ejercicio es lo máximo aumenta tu autoestima y te mantienes en buena forma y tus músculos están sanos, eras hacías gimnasia que bien , que bien.

Your body was in perfect shape. Body full control 😂but still it is in good shape

Hehe, I guess that's what ~15-20 years of sports does to a body. But I am blessed with fast metabolism.

Once we hit a certain age, we need to work harder to keep in shape and be more careful how we eat too. Good to hear you feeling better, as how things affect our mental health is under-rated. As The Verve famously said at Glasto- "It's a struggle, life's a struggle.. .. a slave to money then we die!"

Luckily, I have already changed my ways with food, so I one of the two things that I needed to do were some exercises to get fit again. After that, I just got to stop smoking :P

your body and mind will appreciate it

Already feeling a shift :))

This ab is AI generated I swear T^T

Lol I was thinking the same thing. Rather than working out I'm just going to photoshop this to my body. I've never had abs before, thanks AI.

You know what's better than a 6-pack? A beertender.

I learned that a long time ago.

Sssttt.... you got me... I thought no one would ever know! It's all photoshop though.

fk. i'm now confused.

Its ok. We all are.

Turkish heat wouldn't motivate me to do shit.

(But yes I totally need to get back in shape. I'm in the worst shape of my life and my job (and literally my life) depend on me being physically able to do my job.)

Lol, my friend asks me why I don't turn on the A/C only to hear from me that I'm training myself to get used to this weather. I'm burning calories while being idle bruh.

Dude, you can start with just 5-10 push ups a day. Imagine what change it would bring if you did this for one month ;)

I'm not weak lol. I just don't have the stamina lol. I'm sloppy. I put up like 300 on the bench a couple of months ago. (I never really lifted. Always just did some form of high intensity cardio. I'm too lazy for that these days.)

bruh, I started with 5KG dumbbells 🤣🤣🤣 just to build up stamina and getting used to it again :P

I need to clarify. I did one rep and was like "yep I'm done."

Done.... for the dayyyy :p

When you're in Turkey, it's hard to get fit again. I'm sure you lost yourself already with delicious foods! Good luck :))

Haha, the food is good! But actually, I am going to make Dutch Pancakes later today (@anmitsu , @eveuncovered, @escapist), because I'm craving for that stuff.

lol 🥞 yeah it's been awhile i had some

I'm so glad you're back in the gym, man. Looks like you are having a productive time in Turkey. I'm planning to come to Izmir in a couple of weeks if nothing goes wrong. Let's hope everything goes well and we can meet up!

Nice man! Hopefully, it will be at the end of August, because I am going to Greece in a few weeks. It would be awesome to meet up bro, 100%!

Good to be back on track :) You've looked on that photo a bit like donut ;D I have been in similar moments in the past so totally understand. Stay safe.

Haha yeah, a fat donut indeed! Now we just gotta put some sprinkles on it.
