SPS Governance Proposal - Offer Land "Starter Packages" for Sale by Burning DEC / DEC-B

A proposal is being put forth to a vote of staked SPS holders to give players the option to burn DEC or DEC-B tokens in order to purchase a few different land "starter packages" when surveying their land plots.

Unlike the previous proposal which offered boosts to the rarity and magical resource chances when surveying land plots, this proposal instead offers various packages that will give players a jump start when land phase 2 is released, but that do not permanently change or affect the land plots themselves.

The packages that we propose to make available for purchase are listed below. We propose that only one of each package may be purchased per land plot that is being surveyed, and that these packages will ONLY be available for purchase along with a deed survey transaction. For example, if a player is surveying 5 deeds, then they have the option to purchase up to 5 of EACH package along with the surveying transaction.

Building in a Box

Proposed Cost: 10k DEC or DEC-B

The Building in a Box package allows the purchaser to begin construction of a level 1 building on a single land plot without having to pay any DEC or other resources which would normally be required to begin construction of a building.

Please note that it will still take the normal amount of time for the construction of the level 1 building to be completed, and worker cards will still be needed to be staked on the land plot in order to perform the construction. This package simply eliminates the resource cost to begin the upgrade.

For some context, we plan that even a level 1 building will be a significant boost to resource production as compared to having no building constructed, and as a result, resource production will be quite slow initially when land phase 2 is first released since no buildings would have been constructed yet.

Based on this, we expect that being able to immediately begin construction of level 1 buildings will provide a significant head start over players who have to wait until they are able to harvest enough resources to begin construction. Without the Building in a Box package, players will need to wait until enough Wood, Stone, and other resources are harvested and possibly refined - which will be quite slow on plots without any buildings - and those resources will be very expensive to purchase on the markets if they are even available at all.

This package will be non-transferrable and may be used only by the player who purchased it.

Time Vault

Proposed Cost: 10k DEC or DEC-B

It has long been discussed that players will have the option to pay a fee in order to speed up processes that take time, such as building construction and upgrades, resource transportation, etc, and we currently plan for that to be done via the purchase of a transferrable token called Time Crystals (name subject to change).

The Time Vault package will provide purchasers with 48 hours worth of Time Crystal tokens which will be able to be spent to reduce the amount of time that any processes within the land expansion take. Since these tokens will be transferrable, they can also be sold to other players who may want to reduce the time that their building construction or other things take in the game.

We currently plan for Time Crystals to cost $0.50 USD per hour worth, which means that this package, which offers 48 hours worth for $10, offers a nearly 60% discount off of the planned price.

Please note that the final quantity and pricing of Time Crystals may change before the land phase 2 release, in which case we will adjust the reward offered from this package so that it remains at at least the same or higher discount compared to the final cost of the same amount of Time Crystals.

Unstable Totem

Proposed Cost: 10k DEC or DEC-B

This package offers a temporary Totem that will double the production rate of any building for a period of 30 days. These Unstable Totems will become active immediately when land phase 2 is released, and expire 30 days afterwards, so they cannot be saved and used later on.

Similar to the Building in a Box package, the Unstable Totem package has the potential to provide a large head start for players who purchase them in the first month of the land phase 2 release, which is the time when resources will be the most scarce and will likely have the most demand.

This package will be non-transferrable and may be used only by the player who purchased it.

Land surveying is currently expected to be released by the end of Q1 of this year (2023), and, if approved, we expect that this proposal will lead to a very significant amount of DEC being burned which can provide significant value to the SPS token, and indirectly to all other Splinterlands game assets, as a result.

We hope that this proposal is more agreeable to the community because, unlike the previous proposal, it only provides a head start to players who choose to make the extra purchase rather than a permanent advantage. Players who choose not to purchase these packages upon surveying their deeds will still have the same chances of receiving higher rarity land plots or magical/occupied land plots as everyone else.

I'm with @azircon again on this one... no vote from me until we get some real details about land (ie whitepaper). Why not put these props out and let us vote on them when we can make an actual informed decision that involves us being educated about actual land mechanics?

I also do not like how this has to be done 'blindly' on a plot before/when surveying, when you have no idea what is on that plot. If you have a significant amount of land you have to gamble to decide which plots you want to roll the dice on as opposed to (once again) being able to make an informed decision.

Well Jimmy! Thank you.

The main proposal is out now, please make sure you vote NO

Will land white paper come out before survey of land plots to help us decide?

I'm auto-no on land proposals until the entire concept is more solidified. This is essentially layering vaporware at this point.

Without a whitepaper it is very hard to judge any of this. I have no idea why proposal after proposal of land related items are getting forwarded without releasing the whitepaper.

I hope so too... While they described it broadly, I think they will get much more demand if people understood how everything fits together (via the white paper).

Yes please 😇 GitBook is gonna have good business from Splinterlands with so many whitepapers coming up! I actually read those stuff 📖 !PIZZA !LUV

This is far more acceptable. You have my support.

Yeah, these "gimmicks" are something ive seen before in other games and they work. They dont affect the underlying value of the land. I will definitely support this.

One unrelated thing. Once land starts in all its glory. Developed land will immediately have higher value than undeveloped land.
I just hope you guys figured out how to present those upgraded values in the land marketplace.

I might have to make a habit of voting 'No' to the first iteration of each proposal - this is leagues better than the previous imo

I think the only thing I'd be curious about is if the Unstable Totem performs as a randomized Totem (like opening a pack, some get C, R, E or Legend) or if it will perform as a Legendary - this info would help determine the value of that particular pack to all players, including those who already have totems

The Unstable Totem will not be random - everyone will get the same thing - and it's equivalent to a Legendary totem for the production bonus (doubled).

The thing to keep in mind though is that the value of totems increases exponentially as the land is built out over time. For example, early on if you have a forest plot producing 10 Wood per day, then a Legendary totem will get you an extra 10 Wood per day. But once you have a max level building on that plot and you're producing maybe 10,000 Wood per day, then the totem is getting you an extra 10k Wood per day. So the Legendary totem effectively doubles all of the time and cost and value you put into the plot it's used on.

This is why these Unstable Totems are only $10 (vs $1000+ for a Legendary totem on the market). They only work the first 30 days, which is when the totems will have the least value.

Good question. Maybe it functions as a common totem. In other news seems like we understand a bit better what a totem may do. Do they all double production or will rare do even better and then legendary more than doubles? The answer to this provides a lot of insights about totems. Good question for TH.

correction: they've said it acts like a legendary totem

Says "double production" so it'll be acting like a legendary.

I guess I have a couple questions though:

  1. Why will Time Crystals be transferrable? Why aren't these the equivalent to pack potions where they are soulbound? I get that you want to make these earnable in other ways with Land gameplay, but we don't need another token in this ecosystem. Sooner or later we are going to be at 10+ tokens for one game and that is ridiculous, especially when majority of them aren't needed.

  2. Unstable totems will double the production rate of any building. Is this foreshadowing that all existing totems are going to have the same use case of affecting the production rate of buildings? Or will totems have other use cases such as affecting Land workers, harvesting, crafting, etc...?

We should ask for more information about totems to be shared in town hall... it kinda does seem like the totems will be used to double production but does it also increase other things?

For the packages that are non-transferrable and may be used only by the player who purchased it, how does that work with land that is rented out?

Can non land owners buy these and used them on land they rent from other players for example? And the converse, can a land owner who has rented out their land still use them, even if they are not a player?

I suppose when you build a building on land it stays on that land which is a unique NFT and therefore likely increases the value of renting that land (because it's prodocution ability increases)

But what about the other way. I suspect some people may want to rent out bare land and let the renter do what they want with it. In which case a renter (non land owner) would benefit from the packages. I suppose we just don't know enough of how renting out land will work/be set up so it's probably a moot point. Non owners won't want to buy these packages with so much unknown.

Non owners cannot buy these packages because the packages can only be purchased when an owner surveys their land plot. So an owner can purchase these items and use them to make their land more valuable to a renter. I expect that the owners will be the ones building and upgrading the buildings on plots, and renters will be providing the worker cards and harvesting the resources. It wouldn't make sense for a renter to spend resources building/upgrading a building on a plot they don't own and could be taken from them at any time.

"It wouldn't make sense for a renter to spend resources building/upgrading a building on a plot they don't own and could be taken from them at any time"

That is what happens with guilds, so there is precedent for such "irrational" behaviour....

Smart ideas better then the first one

This is awesome, great ideas!

Ok this is all awesome. Love this solution more than the potions.

I will be buying as many as I can afford!

ps... if we could get the whitepaper before these are purchasable that would be a good idea too. I'm sure there will be many players that will want to see how things will work on land. While you referenced some of them, having a white paper will increase demand even more for all 3 of these Starter Packages.

I like the proposal over all but I personally hate 'pay to speed up'. Maybe get rid of that it feels a little cash cow.

yes i also have bad experience with these mechanics because they are actually used by scam games that then make the normal state extra slow so you have to buy the boost to even have a normal game experience!

the proposal is good. but through the proposal I learned for the first time that there is such a fraud mechanic on land (Time Crystals)
this somewhat dampens my joy about the proposal and land in general :(

In this case, however, since DEC will be burned to purchase the Time Crystals, the "cash cow" is to the benefit of SPS holders like yourself. Also, there will be other ways to earn Time Crystals and/or to reduce the upgrade time within the game.

I've just never liked the concept, ever since I had a horrific experience with Clash of Clans which I tried out on a work iPad a few years back thinking it might be like good old Command and Conquer, how wrong I was, the pay to survive mechanism gave me a bad taste, so I don't like it even it does benefit me!

I get what you're saying since I don't love the mechanic either in traditional games but I look at this as a business expense since land is producing sellable goods for real money.

In business, paying more for higher productivity is normal as I'm sure you know. And I think its great that the payment each business makes goes directly to the community. That, to me, is brilliant. Overall I think each land owner is a business owner and we need to weigh the pros and cons of investing more at any given time based on market conditions.

Personally I see that last proposal as just gambling rather than anything to with productivity.

@yabapmatt
hey, but it has another problem. we don't know yet how much of what can be produced in what time. but just roughly to the problem. let's say the normal state is so slow that you are practically forced to buy these crystals. then you already have a minimum price what the manufactured item must cost. not only that it is then somehow like a price manipulation from the system. it could also be that the product must be so expensive in the end. that normal players can no longer afford it, if they need this item every day to have fun in the game. because actually the demand and the supply determines the price. but by the crystal is already a minimum price (assuming the normal state would be so slow that it is unplayable without the crystal).

All of these options stink. Definitely a more creative proposal, and this proposal should pass, but the 2nd and 3rd options need to cost less than the first imo.

QUESTIONS:

  1. Are wood and stone the only resources needed to build a level 1 building? Anything else?
  2. If we assume alpha may be the best edition of workers and CL-Rewards the worst workers what is the work disparity between the two?
  3. Can resources be harvested without a building? (though at a highly reduced rate)
  4. What's the fastest a user could normally construct a building or transport something? Hours/Days/Weeks? (We need this info in order to understand the benefit of time crystals and if 1hr saved is worth 50 cents)
  5. How often will we need to do stuff on our land? If actions only take hours does that mean we have to check in all times of the day including set alarms during sleeping hours? (for optimal production)
  6. Can a normal totem and an unstable totem be stacked?
  7. Is there a time limit of when these 3 will be available to purchase or are they forever available for when a user first surveys their plot?

@yabapmatt I'll likely add these to TH questions unless you want to answer some of these here.

This is a far better proposal.

It will work with this proposal like with the last where you set proposal for voting about selling dec-b for 60 days and than obvisiouly in your oppinion this 60 days are from 8th till 28th february ?

image.png

The problem with Building in a Box is that I might not want a building on every plot. Or do I? Not enough info. Buying them prior to the reveal seems frought with pitfalls.

I don't see how we can adequately vote on proposals to change how things will work in game when we still don't know how things are going to work in game originally.

Please publish the land whitepaper before bringing any more land proposals to the community. We still don't have enough data to vote yes on these proposals.

Problems I see with this:

  1. Still pay to speed up.

  2. Still don't know what these will be used for and how valuable they will be.

I am still inclined to vote NO to this proposal unless I see the land whitepaper.

Top Tier <3 Great Job

If my math is right thats 4.5 billion in dec/dec-b we could sink into this

``For example, if a player is surveying 5 deeds, then they have the option to purchase up to 5 of EACH package along with the surveying transaction.´´

can this person with the 5 products use these 5 products all for only one of the 5 countries to boost is more than someone who is only have 1 country. or is there a mechanism that prevents multiple of the same products from being used for the same piece of land?

This is seriously the best proposal so far. I love all three packages!

The question is which package to apply to which of our newly surveyed plots to get the most out of it. This will create interesting strategies. Generally a very attractive way for land holders to burn plenty of DEC.

  • Will the stable totems we already own be usable at the time of revealing?

  • Can we get the possible outcomes of each package? for example will a completed building 2x output, the Time crystals 2x production, and unstable totems 2x production?

  • If the building isn’t built right away wouldn’t we need to wait for the building to complete to get the boosts of both Building in a Box and Unstable Totem packages?

Im sure all of this is fabulous but how about you GET LAND DONE. just get it done for gods sakes.

This is awesome, great ideas .

It would take a total of 4,500,000,000 dec out of the current total supply of 25,302,330,884 if every plot went for this.

This is actually cooler than old proposal! I'll be voting YES!!! !LUV !PIZZA

I think you are just making things to complicated, with to many coins, with different uses and to many do's and don'ts. Things should be easy and simple, not complicated.

For small players like me, I ask myself if I want to buy something (for example a land starter package) with DEC-B, but I don't have enough, can I pay the rest with normal DEC?

I think that wasn't communicated so far...

I don't see a reason why not seems obvious to me

why limited to 1 option? could someone not decide to use all 3? even more dec burn.🤔

For example, if a player is surveying 5 deeds, then they have the option to purchase up to 5 of EACH package along with the surveying transaction.

I'd rather have the potions, which have a chance to permanently improve your land, rather than a temporary boost.

I'm impressed. I love that you guys went back to the drawing board and came back bigger and better. I think I vote against 90% of every proposal because they are easy to poke holes in but this has my full support.

I hope this does not come off as rude as I don't intend it to be that way...but why are they even asking about this when Land is not even close to out yet?

Compared to the land improvement proposal they have just tripled the cost per deed survey cost if you want to get all three packages per survey. I hope everyone has taken that into consideration as well. For my 2 DEC worth I am down voting this proposal.
