Hey @seablue, thanks for your comment! We have just started accepting VISA and Mastercard for any listed alt coins on http://Changelly.com. As we are at the beginning of process, rates USD->STEEM can be slightly high, to prevent the high demand and cover chargebacks and other fraud payments, while we are tuning the process. Further rates will go down. But anyway, I think it's a nice option to buy STEEM/SBD instantly with credit/debit card, isn't it? And you can always buy/sell STEEM for BTC on Changelly for the most profitable rates on the market.
Thanks for your investigation. But It's just a domain name privacy protector company whoisguard.com - again spammers and hacker attacks. Changelly HQ located in Prague, Czech Republic. Our acquiring partner based in London, you can find it on our Visa/Mastercard checkout page.
Another point, you can check our STEEM wallet history and find, that many users have successfully exchanged crypto via our service since the launching of steemit. It's absolutely transparent:
I would love to get some hands on more steem, but no way am I paying a 37% premium, + the fact I live in Canada premium ON TOP of that. That is like a 60% fee premium.
Sorry, but what do you mean for 60% fee premium? http://Changelly.com doesn't take any additional fees for card processing. Just enter the amount in USD you want spend for STEEM and follow the buying process. I hope it will be pretty clear for you. You can pay for STEEM with Canadian debit/credit card. CAD will be converted automatically to USD by your bank. In case of any troubles feel free to ask for help.
Sure. For some the convenience would be the important feature. For others it's getting the cheapest rate. It depends on what people are looking for. It not for me. I'm a poor bastard who has to watch every penny I spend.
I just noticed a bug in your USD conversion rate estimator. Entering a number lower than your USD minimum gives the wrong exchange rate. For instance, it tells me that if I spend 1 USD the exchange rate for STEEM is 1 USD = 84.275 STEEM. It doesn't allow me to make the transaction, but it did get my hopes up :)
I see Craig downvoted this but it's a valid comment. There are cheaper ways to buy BTC and alts, but this seems convenient if you don't care about getting overcharged. The current market price of bitcoin can be seen at https://bitcoinwisdom.com and many other sites.
The bitcoin rate is the root of what they'll charge for any altcoin. In this case it's about a 37% premium, and the STEEM rate sees the same 37% premium. So if one wants to buy some STEEM now and isn't set up to buy BTC in some other fashion, this service is useful if the premium is acceptable. Otherwise, with some patience, there are cheaper ways.
Yes, I use Gemini.com to buy btc, their btc price is always lower than coinbase, last night I purchased 1 bitcoin and the fee was $2.15, coinbase would charge about $20 fee
There MUST be an easier way to buy Steem! Steemit cryptocurrency money exchanges
Rather than go through one or more third parties, why not buy Steem from Steemit.com, or Steem.com? Am I making any sense here??? Or am I being too simplistic here? Am I being an idiot for stating the obvious??
Buying through third parties is very discouraging and suspicious to most normal people.
The steem eco system could very easily set up there own e-commerce payment gateway. Why don't they?
Perhaps tere is strategic brand marketng reason to sell steem through third-party exchanges, istead of diect to customers..

Operating a money service business exchange isn't so easy. And credit cards and crypto don't mix so well either. That's why any crypto purchases with CC charge seemingly exorbitant fees. They have to charge extra to cover losses from fraud.
but the comment was about the exchange rate changelly uses which is the means you are promoting to buy steem. Not against it, I even upvoted your post earlier and was thinking about getting some SBD from USD through them, but I also believe the comment is on topic and not promoting the buying of Bitcoin.
There are already more competitive options for fiat to crypto conversions. Not all are as convenient as the above option, but the price is better. It depends what people are looking for.
Cex.io has offered debit/mastercard purchases for quite some time. I didn't use it cause for 20€ purchase they took 1.50€ fee, and no I won't use a service where bitcoin costs 30% more than the average price of it right now.
Hey, @steved, thanks for your opinion! But it's always your choice to wait a long for verification or payment processing, or just buy STEEM/BTC/etc instantly with your VISA/Mastercard on our service http://Changelly.com. Unfortunately, mass adaptation is inhibited by government regulators, not by exchanges. Our goal is to simplify buying process for you. Extra margin just covered our risks of chargebacks, fraud payments, etc...
Yes. I noticed that and found it strange.. Maybe they are willing to take losses on the margin on the altcoins for bigger margins and higher volumes on BTC.

That will give you more trust, I hope! You can check feedback from our users on the largest cryptocurrency forum: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1435275.0 https://steemit.com/@changelly/transfers
Awesome to see you guys doing direct customer engagement here.
Agreed, I like to see things like also. The comments in this thread are great learning nuggets as usual.
Thank you! We are happy to hear feedback directly from our customers. It's always help us to become better.
I would love to get some hands on more steem, but no way am I paying a 37% premium, + the fact I live in Canada premium ON TOP of that. That is like a 60% fee premium.
But I signed up for an account a few mins ago.

Ouch, thanks! We've got it. Will pass the issue to our technical team to fix it asap! Very important bug.
Got a bug bounty system? :)
Ohh, not yet, sorry. We should implement it, thanks! =)
fixed! you can check! =)

I posted about steem, so it displeases me to see comments and links about bitcoin, this is supposed to be about buying steem, not bitcoin

and it's good for those who want to pay for anonymity. Changeelly says the rate will reduce as the service matures, they just started
With a credit/debit card you can't be getting anonymity. The anonymity that Changelly offers is changing one crypto to another.

Poor @craig-grant. I agree this is great news about STEEM :p. Thanks for sharing the link, these are the things the network need.

Your train of thought displeases me.
Malaysian trains displease me.
That's a disgusting rate, are they buying bitcoins from the future?
Offer a cheaper rate or deal with it. Why complain about the first company in the world to do something?
I think I have a right to complain if on the front page it literally says:
first company to do what exactly?
Offer them competition if you think they are profiting too much.
What is your point? that people shouldn't point out a manifestly bad deal unless theyre willing to start their own business to offer a better one.
This site is a rip-off, designed to fleece unwary or ignorant consumers. Its as simple as that.

Watch the pennies and the pounds look after themselves, I think someone said, once upon a time. :-)
Assume the buyer doesn't know what crypto is and doesn't care.
Its the same "business model" like Mycelium where you can buy btc by credit card for insane prices...this works against mass adoption

Hey! We are located in Prague, Czech Republic. But VISA/Masteracard payments are also available for Indians! =)
