How many of us started on steemit with grandiose plans of writing superb blogs and then sitting back, waiting, and watching the money roll in?
I know I did, and since then, I've met many 'newbies' who expect the same thing and then become discouraged and disappointed when it doesn't happen. So, here's a little story I tell them...
Imagine moving to a new town where you don't know a soul. You're so excited to be there, so you decide to throw a party. You meticulously plan everything, you buy and prepare food and drinks for everyone, and you even decorate. It takes a lot of time and effort, but that's ok, because when the night of the party arrives, everything is perfect. Your house looks great, the food and drinks look awesome, and you even look like a million bucks. It's all ready. So you open your front door and you wait, and wait, and wait...
...and not a single soul shows up. Absolutely no one.
What did you do wrong? Everything was perfect? You'd prepared and had everything looking great? Except you missed one small detail... You didn't take the time to get to know anyone before you planned your magnificent party.
I realised early on, in my steemit journey, that I needed to 'get out there' and meet people, genuinely comment on their work, develop real relationships, and work my way into becoming a member of this community. ONLY then, would people be interested in coming to my party.
That takes me to @abh12345's "Curation Leagues"; if you haven't heard of it, please have a look at the details. You'll be glad you did!!
If you're interested in developing your curation skills, whether you want to earn more money from your comments, or you simply want to meet more people and develop more relationships, Asher's Curation League is for you. He tracks everything, tally's up how much you've commented, what your earnings look like and stats to see how you compare to others in the league. The only thing that you have to do, is drop your name in the comment section of his post and let him know you're interested. He does all the rest...well except your commenting; that's your job;)
The league has been growing over the past few weeks and the competition and encouragement really is contagious. I know that it has pushed me to comment more and in the process I've met new people and developed new relationships. Remember the key is genuine commenting though; if everyone interacts authentically, purposefully and selflessly, just imagine what this steemit community of ours could look like.
Together we can all make it happen!

Thanks to @abh12345 Curation league I came across you, and for sure its a great way to meet fellow steemians committed to grow on steemit and help others too. The key is engagement and if your posts are good, one will be making a killing in good time.
Keep up the spirit and SteemOn!
Thank you so much @cmbugua! Right back atcha :) It's very nice to meet you and I'm looking forward to growing together here!
See @abh12345? It's working already!!
Posting and commenting cannot life without the other!
Posting gives others an idea how and what tou write about, but like in your example, if you don’t have any followers it will be hard to get noticed.
If you only comment but don’t have any postings orhers are not encouraged to follow you. It will increase your rep and steem power. But that’s it.
So one cannot life without the other.
People also forget to read the other comments. Replyingon these can give you even more exposure! And potentially increase the chance on a new follower.
But both have to be genuine!
So true!! And you're totally right about reading through the comments! I should have included that little tip:) I always do that and more times than not, I learn more things with the conversations going on there; and I meet new people as well!
Thank you so much for pointing that out:)
Your welcome!
Thank you for sharing, I am sure indicating my interest. Expect me @abh12345
Way to go!! Get your name on that list @floxycool! And that's a really cool name, by the way ;) Thanks for stopping by, I really appreciate it!
And I just noticed you're an @asapers!! Nice to meet you:)
I quote this from a steemian:
"Comments are the oil that makes the whole thing work."
Please forgive if a word or two are missing from the quote. I have found this to be true so many levels. A good post, no matter the greatness of the content would never reach it's full potential until the comments to it reflect the readers perception of it. I will also add that a good steemian no matter his/her caliber be a truly great steemian if the comments do not reflect the engagement of the readers to his/her content
You're absolutely correct! It really is a two-way street, and each person has to show mutual respect or it's not really a healthy relationship at all!
I guess with good commenting, steemit becomes a well-oiled machine ;)
Thank you for stopping by and commenting; I really appreciate it!
That's a great analogy.
Very few would prepare a party without getting to know the people they want to see and without inviting them. It's the same about setting up a blog or writing on Steemit.
Traffic isn't some faceless thing. It's people, it's friends.
Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked my analogy. It's really very simple when you think about it in those terms right?
Well said indeed! You obviously 'get' it.
Thank you for stopping by and commenting:)
Thank you @lynncoyle1!
A really cool analogy and so true.
You can of course pay your guest to come round too - oops :D
I'm glad you found the league and that you are happy to spread the word!
Shhh! Keep that as our secret ;)
I'm glad you liked it, and I'm so happy to have found you and your league...in that order :)
aww :)
What can I say, it's been a pleasure too.
I must concede here, as I rarely do elsewhere, but I do support the person at times along with the content - don't tell though..... content, yes content!
haha of course, always content! wink wink
And Asher, I meant to thank you for all the upvotes on the comments here. I was feeling badly because my VP is at an all time low (my fault, I went overboard spreading the love ;) and I wasn't able to upvote here today. @davemccoy, who of course I trust, told me not to worry and that my comments meant more. Even so, I really appreciate what you did here!
see what you started? ;)
I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about here @davemccoy ...and neither does @abh12345 :) Right Asher?! haha
I gotta quit doing that, too many things at one time makes my head hurt ... d'ohhh
hahaha... you are going to have a good week... I can feel it ;)
Oh I'm sure you will too!
...but thank you
and let the games, begin!!
What a great post! I met you through your comment, so that’s why I like comments the most :) Building community! Thanks for this @lynncoyle1! :)
Hey @drkent!! Thanks for stopping by here :)
I'm so glad you liked my post. I do a lot of work here through @newbieresteemday and other groups helping new and not-so-new folks on steemit, so I thought "commenting" would be a good topic to tackle :)
And yes, the upside of commenting is that we have an opportunity to meet really cool people ;)
Cheers!
This is a nice concept @lynncoyle1. My steemit experience had been kind of fraustrating and I would really love a change.
I'm really interested in the @abh12345 curation program.
Hi there @mrrpiusz, so nice to meet you! Getting in on @abh12345's Curation League is certainly a step in the right direction for sure:) And I totally understand your frustration, but like I just said to someone else here, in the beginning you almost need a mental shift and instead of focusing on your writing, you need to focus on other's writing, at least until you get a real following. But truthfully, regardless of the number of followers that I have, I will continue commenting the way I do now.
Have you heard of @newbieresteemday, @greetersguild, or @asapers yet? Or are you on Discord? If you have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, that's perfectly ok because I'll help you out with it. They are all groups that have been formed to welcome, support, encourage and educate new and not-so-new folks here. I've heard from several people that if they hadn't connected with @newbieresteemday for example(of which I belong), they would have left steemit altogether. And I know that @asapers is the same, because I'm a new member there too:) And @greetersguild works closely with @newbieresteemday. So we've got your bases covered!
So! Don't get frustrated; there's help here if you need it. Please message me back and let me know how we can help you out!
Thank you so much for stopping by!
Thank you so much for your reply.
You asked if I was on discord, Yes I am, but the problem is that I don't really understand how it works so I don't open the app often.
I really need your help in order to know more about the discord and how it works, also the @newbieresteemday, @asapers and the others you mentioned above.
I will also love to know about how the @abh12345's curation league operate.
Thank You, I'll be expecting your reply
Thank you for asking questions and trying to help yourself out here; I am happy to help ;)
First, @abh12345 Curation League: Look in my blog here for the highlighted blue word "details". If you click on that, it takes you to his page where you just have to comment to him that you are interested. That's it! He'll sign you up. That simple :)
Now for Discord: It's a little confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty simple. If you click on "Friends", which has a little icon of a guy waving, it will bring you to a page where it says "Add a Friend". Put lynncoyle1#4299 in there and hit "send friend request". I'll get it and respond to you. I would send a message to you, but I don't know your 4 digit Discord number. If you have that and want to give it to me, I'll send the friend request instead.
Then we can message there and discuss all of your questions.
I will pass your name onto @greetersguild and they will reach out to you to help you out!
@newbieresteemday is a great group also. They are on Discord and we (I belong as well) chat and help others out there. They run contests and other things so you can meet and talk with all kinds of people. So that's why I want to sort out Discord with you too.
10 days or so ago I wrote a blog with some links for other helpful things. You can have a look at that as well:
This one describes @newbieresteemday and a couple other things I find valuable:
https://steemit.com/newbieresteemday/@lynncoyle1/3-invaluable-resources-on-steemit
And when you get settled more, here are some other links to have a look at that may be helpful:
https://steemit.com/steemiteducation/@lynncoyle1/more-invaluable-tools-to-use-on-steemit
Don't upvote any of those because you'll just waste your votes since it's past the 7 day mark.
So...it's a lot I know! Get Discord sorted out and send me a friend request and be on the lookout for @greetersguild too. We are all here to help my friend, to make this a better experience for you!
Cheers :)
And here is the link to join Discord: @greetersguild. They are waiting for you!! :)
https://discord.gg/FVuuzh
Love the party where no one comes analogy!
Thank you so much; I thought it would be something everyone could understand :)
Thank you for stopping by @carjhb!
So very true @lynncoyle1! Theres a certain gratification I get from commenting on others posts, telling them what I think and them appreciating the comment. Developing that friendship is key to a long lasting Steemit journey. Great post!
Thank you very much @smylie2005! Same with me; it feels good when someone else acknowledges and appreciates your thoughts! I often put in the same amount of time on a comment as I do on a post of my own. I think it's so important...it's like that 15 second window for someone to be intrigued by your thoughts or not. A bit like a first impression I guess!
Thank you for making your way here ;) Cheers!
(and I just realised that you belong to @asapers...me too! I think I saw you in their newsletter, right? Congratulations! ...and oh no, I see I have your "Easy Breezy" tab opened and I forgot to comment on it! Geez...too much going on...you are first on my list for tomorrow ;)
Thanks @lynncoyle1, I came across your article via a resteem. As a new person to steemit and a creator of new content, I will surely take your advice and lookup "Curation Leagues".
Hi @slobberchops (great name btw;), please do look it up; you won't regret it. Nice...a resteem. That was kind of someone to do;) The "Curation League" is also comprised of a great group of people to follow and learn from as well. They are all so kind and helpful.
Speaking of helpful, have you heard of @newbieresteemday or @greetersguild, or @asapers? All three are wonderful for helping out new and not-so-new folks here. And are you on Discord yet? If all of this seems Greek to you, let me know and I'll give you a hand. That's what this is all about after all!
Thank you for coming by! Here's to a budding new relationship;)
Hi @lynncoyle1, I already asked to be signed up thanks. I have not yet come acress the three people you mention, though I will look them up!
I do know about Discord, its not all greek and thanks regarding the name, I like to stand out a bit :)
Oh, thank you so much for sharing this. I am definitely joining in on the curation league. I have slacked a little on commenting in the last week, so this sounds like some great motivation to get back to it!!
Hi @keciah, I'm so glad it was worthwhile for you. The league is certainly a good kick in the behind if it's motivation you need haha
I know the motivation and support that we get from @steemitbloggers is amazing too, but for some, the fact that you sign up and then your performance becomes public viewing, is a motivator in itself. But don't let that scare you or intimidate you, because I have never seen any negative comments or anything like that in the Curation League. It really is all selfless, encouraging and mentoring people at work there:)
I'm so glad you're going to do it, and I'm so happy you stopped by here; I really like bridging some of the different groups here:) Cheers!
you found a perfect example, it's really clear the objective, this league is great, I'll put all my efforts, by the way a pleasure to meet you I'm from venezuela, greetings.
Hey there @melvadg, it's so nice to meet you as well! I'm glad that this was useful for you and also something you're willing to participate in! I'm looking forward to developing a relationship with you:)
I'm actually in Mexico, just south of Cancun! Thank you so much for stopping by :)
I an only second what you mention here. Just like all others, I came here for the money. Fortunately, it didn’t take me long to figure out that the SteemIt community and the people you meet on here, are way more important than the money will ever be.
Asher’s league is a great motivation to go out there and engage. Because the true value of Steemit is in engagement, not in the money...
I think we're two peas in a pod on that one @simplymike. In the beginning we seem to focus so much on our own blogs (hmmm what am I going to write about today?) and until you get a little mental shift and think instead of others (hmmm I wonder what everyone's writing about today?), things can seem a little discouraging. But you're absolutely right,
Well said my friend! So glad to have you back. How about we give @davemccoy and @themanwithnoname a run for their money this week? :)
Thanks for stopping by!
Sounds like a plan to me ;0)
I liked your post, and Asher is a fantastic person. Commenting, I think a lot of new users are intimidated by commenting. I know I was, fortunately I got over that, by commenting. Comments are a vital part to any post, often times the comments and responses from the original post shed a little bit more light on what they were trying to get across. And sometimes, the comments, well they make you laugh, especially some of the comments I have seen made back to the two word comment "Nice Post" So so many funny responses to that one still at times.
haha @bashadow, I've spit my drink out a few times watching @themanwithnoname replying to those "nice post" comments!
And you're right about the comments on a post; I always read through the whole thing, often before I even leave a comment myself. We all have to reach a point of understanding that everyone here has something of value to offer, and the beginning and end of a post is NOT the end at all. Every single person who genuinely comments adds value to that post and often we can all learn something new there.
I never really thought about commenting being intimidating for some people, which is not very empathetic on my part. It's obviously a big hurdle for some, but again, you are correct...by forcing yourself to comment more and more, that intimidation eventually fades into the woodwork.
And last, but certainly not least, Asher is fantastic!! His selfless attitude and willingness not only to help others, but really take joy in their success is a rarity for sure. I think we've surrounded ourselves with a lot of people who are exactly like that... yourself included ;)
As always, thank you so much for stopping by!
you're making steemit a great community with your content lynncoyle1! keep it up!
Thanks so much @five34a4b!
Good comments connect good people to good things in life hehe... well thats not very profound but you get it.
be well friend
@lynncoyle1
Thank you @krazypoet! And it's pretty profound in my books :)
I'm going to check into "Curation Leagues"! I seem to get my best information about steemit from all you good people at Newbieresteemday! I follow you guys religiously and try to see what you post or resteem. Sometimes its overwhelming doing that and trying to put something on here everyday too.
Thanks for this heads up on curation....I learned a lot today! YOU ROCK @lynncoyle!
First things first.. YOU ROCK @beekerst :)
Thank you so much for the awesome reply. Yes, please so get on @abh12345's list. You don't have to do anything but go to the post (he does one every Sunday), and say, 'sign me up'. If you want to start fresh, and you enjoy putting things off for a few days haha, check it out this coming Sunday.
I'm so glad we at @newbieresteemday have been so helpful, and I'm glad you enjoyed the post! There is always so much going on, it really is hard to keep up. I know I don't do a post daily, so kudos to you for keeping up!
Cheers!
Great post! I always tell people that communication is the key to success on Steemit. You must engage with the community with genuine comments and responses.
You said it sista !! :) It is the only way, like in real life, to develop meaningful, lasting relationships :)
Thanks for stopping by!
That is so true! You described it so perfectly with the example of the party. Same on Steemit, how will people know how cool you are if you don't show them 😉
haha that is so true!! :)
...and thanks for the compliment on my party analogy!
I really enjoy reading comments on my blog. I imagine everyone does. That's why we are all here on Steemit and not on another platform. We need the feedback from others, to ensure that our words hit home or not.
Thank you for sharing information on Asher's Curation League. I did not stumble upon them so far.
Hey there @lymepoet! Did I see you on @asapers discord? I think so :) Nice to meet you!
Yes, this platform is great for how positive it is compared to others; the feedback is always constructive if necessary, but never really negative I've noticed (unless someone really deserves it haha)
You should click on my link above and let Asher know that you want in; it's great to see how your doing in curation and it's also just another great group of people there!
Thanks for stopping by!
Earlier i was told about geninue comments but am more clarified , thank you for the illustration used it explains it to the simplest form
Infact am resteeming for others to learn
Nice one @lynncoyle1
Hey there @adorablechi! I'm so glad that this clarifies things for you:) I tried to come up with something that everyone would be able to understand and I guess I was successful! Thank you so much for stopping by and for the resteem! It's very kind and selfless of you to want to pass on worthwhile information to others; I'm sure they will appreciate it too. People helping people! That's what this is all about!
Have a look at some of the other comments here too if you have a few minutes. I'm not sure if you're interested, but I told a few people about some groups that welcome, support, encourage and mentor new and not-so-new people here; and they're just all around nice people. The groups are @newbieresteemday, @greetersguild, and @asapers. Let me know if you'd like to find out more about them:)
Cheers!
I will check out the curation league and have started using newbieresteemday in my contest posts. Since I've been doing a new contest each day (for a whole week! haha!) I've met a lot of great people here on Steemit. It does take work but your explanation makes so much sense. We have to get to know each other here like we would in real life.
Hey @peggyhazelwood, so nice to meet you!! I'm glad you found @newbieresteemday and the whole gang that goes with it; it's an awesome group of people, but I'm sure you've figured that out already!
Wow, a new contest each day...that is a lot of work! Good for you!
I guess like with any relationship though, the more time you put into it, the more it gives back ;)
I'm so happy that you found my post worthwhile and that my explanation made so much sense to you. In the end, you hit the nail on the head,
Thank you so much for stopping by!
Making insightful Comments have always been a very effective way to encourage and communicate with users on the platfom
Thank you so much @stevenson7; I guess it's the same in real life as well ;)
So wanted to just leave a "Great Post" comment....lol.
Love your "little story" of moving to a new neighborhood. It really is fitting and better then any attempt I've made at explaining this to people.
Well then, "Great Comment"...lol
Thanks! That 'story' just popped in my head one day when I was trying to sort all of this out! Feel free to use it ;)
I'm a smart ass sometimes...cant help myself. And I will use that story for sure. People learn so much better from stories then when they are given facts.
haha me too ;)
I think you're right; several commented here to just that fact!
Stories Sell, Facts Tell.
Nobody likes to be told what to do, believe, or think but they can be sold on it without even realizing it.
Hint if a sales person ever starts a story know you are being sold.
Thanks for the tip!! You're right though. I know from years of teaching, especially ESL kids, an analogy is way easier to understand and more interesting that spouting off facts!
Thanks so much for this post @lynncoyle. I'm a newbie just floundering around trying to figure this all out and one day with posts such as yours, maybe the lightbulb will come on! Right now I'm not so much worried about making big $ but just learning the process. In the meantime, I'm really having fun just writing and posting! I've discovered that I can actually write something halfway decent. Never knew that before! Still got lots to learn about that too!! They say "practice makes perfect", so I'm practicing everyday! So glad I found you to follow!
Thank you so much @sunnieside and welcome to steemit! That really means a lot to me. I spent years teaching high school and still take great pleasure in 'teaching' people here. If you ever have any questions or need a little help with something, feel free to pop by and ask away!!
I'm so glad you discovered the joy of writing and the sense of accomplishment it can give a person. It's a wonderful thing.
I'm so glad you popped by...here's to the beginning of another new relationship:)
Everyone needs love and support. I have seen great posts with like 26 votes and not one comment. We have to balance out so good work is appreciated.
Joy
Hi @sweetjoy! I just said to @evarich a couple comments above that when someone upvotes my post, I appreciate it, but I don't think too much about it. When someone leaves a comment, it means so much more because it validates your work, but also gives you a glimpse into their personality; and it encourages you to 'follow' them and go see their page to check out what they have to offer as well.
You're absolutely right when you said,
It is such a shame that people don't take more time to simply type out a few words, because those few words can mean so much to the author!
Thanks for stopping by and for your thoughts. I really appreciate it! Cheers :)
This was a very good topic to discuss. Steemit will be great because of content creators like yourself. Proud of you.
Joy
Awww thank you so much! That's very sweet of you to say!!
Well yeah real followers are the key to growing and getting new followers means getting involved much like you do and less like me lately..but I am getting back and figuring out my priorities in life as getting involved here means more to my personal growth as anywhere else! In the real world no one really expresses their ideal and ideas because their are faced with the real life interface of survival and deceipt..unfortunately we all know how that works and it is easy to get lost into it and think of it as a main survival priority! Great post!Keep in touch!
I'm so glad you liked it @lidac! And you're right; real life is so much different...I put in the effort here because the returns are always so positive! Plus, there's so many interesting people on here; so much to learn; and a chance to meet great people like yourself! Cheers:)
Excellent publication, I felt very identified. One begins with emotion but suddenly becomes discouraged. I will comment on @ abh12345. Thank you very much for the information. Have a great success!
Hi there @blessed-girl, I'm so glad you found this post helpful! Sometimes I think it's comforting when you realise that everyone has probably felt the exact same way at some point here. Please do join the Curation League because it is a great motivator, but also because there are a lot of wonderful, kind and helpful people there who would be happy to give you a helping hand if you needed it; and they all have something to offer you in terms of learning more. You just have to follow them and watch how they interact, and learn from their success. I'm not talking financial success either (although I'm sure some of them are for sure), but I mean success in terms of creating a real community.
Have you heard of @newbieresteemday, @greetersguild, or @asapers yet? Or are you on Discord? If you have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, don't worry, because there are so many people in those groups who would be happy to help you out...me included. They are all groups that have been formed to welcome, support, encourage and educate new and not-so-new folks here.
So please message me back here and let me know if we can make your experience a better one. This is a community after all :)
Thank you so much for stopping by!
Congratulations @lynncoyle1!
Your post was mentioned in the Steemit Hit Parade for newcomers in the following category:
I also upvoted your post to increase its reward
If you like my work to promote newcomers and give them more visibility on Steemit, feel free to vote for my witness! You can do it here or use SteemConnect
Thank you so much @arcange! I commented on Steemit Hit Parade for newcomers as well! This is much appreciated!! You've also been added as one of my witnesses:) Anyone working so hard for everyone else here deserves it. Cheers!
Thank a lot for your support to my witness. Really appreciated =)
Oh it's my pleasure. You obviously care about the advancement of this platform and you are obviously and selflessly working towards that. It's the kind of thing I vote for :)
You're very right @lynncoyle1. We came to steemit with the idea of stacking the sbd overnight. But spending some time here has proved me wrong.
I have come to realize that succeeding on steemit requires so much patience and dedication. And also, going out there to make friends and build relationships is one sure way to succeed. The importance dropping quality comments on people's posts cannot be over-emphasized. I used to just upvote and walk away, but then I got to find out that commenting is the real deal.
Thank you for pointing these things out.
Thank you so much @evarich! I guess in the end, only the smart ones like us figure it out haha
And you're so right. I know when I see someone has upvoted my post with no comment, I appreciate it, but I don't go any further than that. When someone leaves a comment however, I appreciate that as well, but it also shows a glimpse of who they are as a person, and I'm much more inclined to 'follow' them and go check out their work as well. And that's really what we want too, isn't it?
Thank you for stopping by, and here's to developing new relationships! Cheers :)
Yes! Bring more people in so we can compete with them. It will not be easy and they will have to work hard to succeed, but they can do it! Look at you trying to get extra points for recruitment. ;)
I'm just catching up on some older articles I missed. Sorry for the late response.
Never be sorry...better late to the party than not at all!
And yes, I figure the more the merrier! I never thought about the 'extra points', but hey, I'll take it :)
Thanks for stopping by!
I don't think there actually are recruitment points. :(
I know silly...I was just messin' with you ;) I didn't mean to make you actually feel bad though!!
Oh, I only feel bad because we can't get recruitment points. I was going to start doing blog posts on it so I could clean up. :)
hahaha I get it.
We might end up in the top 2 spots simply because of our continuing antics here ;)
Humm dee dummm, dooot deee doooo. ;)
I guess adding to that analogy, even after you go out and meet lots of people then throw your first big party, it is impossible to expect everyone to come to your party all the time if you are having one every day (or night). But you can certainly go and visit your friends in the new town once every so often and say hi, and hopefully they will also pop by and visit you as well :)
That's an excellent addition to the story for sure; and so true. There's so much going on here all of the time, it's impossible to 'visit' everyone daily. And for many of us, we have 10 upvotes/day to give out, so for me at least, that's doesn't take very long to use up. That's why my voting power is always so dismal haha
Thanks for stopping by and adding to this! I appreciate it ;)
Nice article @lynncoyle1. I love the party analogy. It certainly feels like that. 😊
Hey there superstar @gillianpearce :) The 'party idea' hit me one day when I'd been here only a couple of weeks; it was my light bulb moment when I realised I had to get the spotlight off of me and point it outwards. It really took the edge off of my initial disappointment too! It's common sense really...why should anyone care what I have to say when I'm brand new here; and I guess "care" isn't quite right either, because that sounds so harsh. It's more like, "how on earth would I have people come and read my blog when no one even knows me yet?".
I'm hoping so many new folks see and understand this because I think it would make those first few weeks a whole lot more enjoyable.
Thank you as always for your support!
It's also not only about people not reading because they don't know you I think It's more a case of not being found.
I still find it hard to find content that I actually want to read from people I'm not following. Especially lately, when there seems to be fewer posts. I could be imagining that but I definitely think a lot of the people I follow are posting less. I suppose it is to do with the price of Steem dropping.
It is a little disappointing to see our posts values drop. Many of mine are less than $1 now so it can seem a lot of work for little return.
I don't think I'm as good as you are at pointing the focus outward, especially into the void, so to speak. I'm more of a responder than an initiator I think.
I'm not sure why but I'm feeling weary again today. Maybe it's the let down after a wonderful family day yesterday and then coming home to being top of The League. Then waking up this morning and feeling I need to wind myself up and get going again.
I think I might just take some quiet time for myself or else I'll end up lost on Steemit all day, chasing points!
A good time to remember "the map is not the territory".
. . . well that was all a bit unexpected. Wasn't expecting that to come out. 😁
And, of course, by the time you read this I will probably have moved on. Just talking outloud eally . . .
That's what I love about all of this...it's such a safe environment, where people actually listen and seem to care. I'm glad you blurted all of that out haha. I've had days like that and I just close my laptop and walk away because it will always be there tomorrow. I did that last week actually, so I wasn't expecting to be in the League's top 10, so I was surprised and also took away a valuable lesson...we don't need to be glued to this to do well! When I start to feel "pressure" from it, that's a sign that I'm taking it all a bit too seriously; mind you, I find it's all on my mind a lot!
I hear what you're saying about the price of Steem dropping and our post values. I have to hope that eventually, the money in my wallet will go up as Steem does, regardless of what each post paid out. And if it doesn't, well, I guess we'll live to tell that tale too ;)
I enjoyed listening to your 'thinking out loud' :)
Morning @lynncoyle!
Taking a step back yesterday did wonders. But I notice I have been sitting here for over an hour without a break. I think I need to set the timer on my phone again so I remember to get up and do something away from the computer!
It's quite a challenge because I have research to do and bills to pay etc which all require sitting in front of the screen too.
Anyhoo. I'm going to get up right now and move myself to the attic. At the very least that will require me to climb a ladder. 😁
Wishing you and hubby a peaceful day! 💙
haha thanks @gillianpearce...glad it helped. The timer idea is a good one; I sometimes find that hours pass and I'm shocked when I look at the clock!
...and even more shocked when I stand and feel about 80 years old haha
Thanks for the well-wishes; it has been a very peaceful day!
You've just reminded me . . . I forgot the timer again.
Oh well, not much call for it today s we've got the grandkids.
Will try and remember on Thursday. 😊
I’ve been wondering lately about the viability of a platform where commenting is valued more highly than good content, where the majority of activity happens on other platforms like chat and discord and the illusion of it all being community-focused is maintained. With powerful people at the top of the food chain raping the system, garbage content designed to gain a 0.01 upvote, endless amounts of spam content and cells of users working together in isolation for self gain I’m not sure how viable it can be. Good content doesn’t even get read as voting bots don’t give a shit, neither do their human masters.
It’s a very selfish community.
Tough day at the office honey? ;) What's happened for you to come to this conclusion @galenkp?
I'm trying to bring some levity to your comment because, honestly it made me feel kind of sad. I know that all of those things go on here, just like in the real world. There will always be those who are selfish and take care of themselves and only themselves, but I have to believe that there's a large population here that is the exact opposite...those people that I'm surrounding myself with who are selfless, giving, supportive, encouraging and kind. People like you @galenkp. I've found in my short time on earth, that negativity and anger only breeds more of the same, and I refuse to let those people take my optimism from me.
I guess in the end, there's things we can change, things we can't change, and things we can choose to accept or simply ignore. I'm not living in a land of rainbows and unicorns, but I have always looked at the glass half full and focused my energies on those like-minded people who actually care. I will try to educate and change those who may be selfish, but I won't waste my time with that either. If my ideals are not their's, so be it.
Sometimes the hardest thing in life is accepting the shit that you can't do anything about. Trust me, I know.
Fair point and accurate too. I also only surround myself with those working towards something positive however there are many people on this platform, and the others, who thinly veil their greed and selfishness behind a facade of community. (Reward pool rapers.)
I agree with focusing energies on the like-minded. That's a good plan. I like your comment below.
And you make a fair point as well!
I'm glad you appreciated my last statement; it is often my daily mantra, one that I mutter to myself a few times over :)
nice post. @farooqch
What part about this post was the nicest? And are you talking to yourself in the comment? Should we leave the one of you alone so you can talk to yourself?
haha @themanwithnoname ...perhaps it's his/her signature? Or he's practicing speaking in third person?
Nice post indeed. @lynncoyle1
That could be. I started commenting on comments like this to see if I can get a response. If no response, then I assume they're just spamming. Might be speaking in the third person. Don't know why he would be congratulating himself on your nice post, but who knows?
Good idea to see if it's spam. I didn't think about that.
And stranger things happen on here I think than referring to himself in 3-rd person. I heard a guy once going on about crazy pills or something before. Strange indeed :)
People can go crazy from taking pills? That is strange. Let me know if you run into him. You should probably be careful. Sounds like a dangerous situation. Who's post are we talking on today? Lemme check... It's yours! Well, that sucks? What's the point of having a ridiculous conversation if we're not constantly pinging some random author with notifications? Heh
You got a LOT of comments on this one. That's quite a bit of work to respond to them. I'm honored I get so much of your time for my "antics." :D
So I've heard!! It's a little scary, but I think I can handle this guy. He's a little cuckoo, but his heart's in the right place, and that's what really matters :)
I did get a lot of comments here! It was a pleasant surprise. I guess I hit on some kind of nerve. But I always have time for your antics buddy...keeps lynncoyle1 smiling. There's goes that 3rd person thing again !
Sent you some milk... 2%!! HA! Just thought of that.
hahaha that is a good one !!
