Weekend-engagement topic week 45: Only three items [answer and win hive]

in Weekend Experiences4 years ago

If you've read my posts you'll know I like to spend a lot of time in the wilderness. Many of my activities revolve around wide open spaces and I'm proficient when it comes to most things outdoorsy. I do stuff like camping, hunting, trapping, shooting, kayaking, off-roading, hiking, navigation, bushcraft and general survival stuff among others.

Further to this I value preparedness which extends to various elements from situational awareness, offensive and defense action, security, first aid and other such valuable skills most people do not choose to have. It leaves me confident and comfortable mostly and the elements often combine together to deepen my enjoyment of life - Hobbies I mean.

This week I wanted to add this element to the #weekend-engagement topic with a topic based around survival, suggested by @regenerette so...Welcome to week 45 and a topic close to my heart. I hope y'all will get engaged - Or not, your choice.

For those who aren't familiar with the concept all you have to do is respond to the topic below in the comments of this post. It'll be cool if you stay around and engage with some of the others too - That's the purpose of the concept to be honest - Engagement.

On Monday I'll have a bunch of hive to transfer to some of you who engage below. It's pretty easy right? It's not a competition, simply a chance to get engaged with a few other hivers, have some fun and win a little hive for your efforts.

Weekend-engagement topic week 45

The scenario

There is a pandemic outbreak and you need to escape to the wilderness - Away from people. You only have one hour to gather all of the items you'll need and they all have to be carried in or on your passenger vehicle - Let's just assume you have one ok? You can take anything you like but you only have one hour before you leave.

The topic: What are three of items you take - explain your answer.

In the comments below reveal three of the items you gather and explain your answer. There's no wrong answer - Take it seriously or have some fun...Just get involved.knife im src

Do you take your Beatles record collection, credit card and hair dryer? Do you take your firearm, ammunition and fishing rod? Maybe your iPhone and charger, PlayStation 5 and Tinder password. Maybe you grab your go-bag that already contains everything you need, guns and ammunition and hook up your off-road camper trailer to your 4x4 then leave?

  • Dot point your three items in the comments below and briefly explain why you chose them and their value or significance.

Read this bit so you know what to do. ☝️

That's the topic for this week folks. You have until late Sunday night your time to get your response into the comments below and I hope you'll engage with it this week as it'll be good to see you around over the weekend. Have a great weekend if you engage or not.

“Another way to be prepared is to think negatively. Yes, I'm a great optimist. but, when trying to make a decision, I often think of the worst case scenario. I call it 'the eaten by wolves factor.' If I do something, what's the most terrible thing that could happen? Would I be eaten by wolves? One thing that makes it possible to be an optimist, is if you have a contingency plan for when all hell breaks loose. There are a lot of things I don't worry about, because I have a plan in place if they do.”

My Friday track by legit Saffer band Seether - Broken

Sort:

Oh man, I feel so prepared for the worst. As someone who works in emergency services no shit I have 4 backpacks loaded with survival gear, emergency items and basic necessities. One back pack per member of my house hold. They all have some pretty cool shit and weigh alot. But designed to grab and throw in my Holden VE Series 2 SV6 Sports Wagon. Plenty of boot space. So naturally that's my first item.

An hour is a lot of time to thing and collect things. Assuming wallet, keys, phone is on me I would include a fishing rod and I don't know what my 3rd would be as alot of stuff is in my backpack. I'd have to say my drone though. Gives me a good perspective to see income danger and monitor the perimeter of where ever I am. I'd fly at night as you can turn the lights off and be invisible to see the area.

I have solar panel charge devices and heaps of batteries so I wouldn't have an issue there as well as a 4 person tent included in my emergency escape back pack.

I initially developed the back pack for when my wife kicked me out of the house or when my mother in law stayed. I could go set up at a park and not come home for a week or two with plenty of food and water and tools to get more food and collect more water. (Kidding, but actually seems like a great idea)

Great post!

My wife thinks I’m silly for keeping a to-go bag full of some basics in the back of our car. It’s a duffel bag so it’s got quite the amount of storage space thankfully. Just need to top it off with a first aid kit now that I cleaned it!

Good choices here, the drone and solar panels would be some good stuff to have for sure!

My wife always complains about that too "why do you even bother". Then the day comes and I will be all like "see, told ya so". 🤣 first aid kits a good but my kid seems to raid it to play doctors so I had to restock it and put it in a higher location.

Yeah it’s weird until you need it! Lol. Our son used the bandaids in the kit to patch up one of his trucks from surgery he performed. Need to get a new one lol

Oh man! I know this feeling. So many dolls have been turned into mommy's 🤣🤣🤣

I asked my lil one what she was doing and she said "they're sick, silly daddy!"

Argh! The mess lol

I have this same issue. Our daughter unpacked our bandage kit the other day and left it in smithereens 😓

Hahah nice, the things they do for entertainment! Worthy of the sacrifice I think lol

She's a bit obsessed with band aids and bandages, but it's a good problem to have I think.

I carry a go-bag too! :) That is why I didn't need to think much about it.

That's great and very important! I think it's good to just have the mindset that you can be prepared if the situation arose and you needed to go somewhere. It's also good to have a small one in the car with some necessities just in case. Never know!

I actually do as do my kids. We used to have to have one, so we know the drill.

I have a fly (ready) bag and a size XXL duffle that is my camping bag. It's got a little dry food in it, but everything I need. Those are both packed all the time.

I also have one solar panel charger and 4 battery packs that'll keep me going for weeks.

This is a good plan. Even if other things aren't going with you, food must not be left out unless you want to starve yourself 😂

Wait! That is not three things, my lovely friend! :)) Hey, Tom!!! Miss you! @bigtom13

Hey ya Denise! Good to see you. Why am I not surprised you have a go bag?

You know me so well! :)) Everyone who works for the government or ever has definitely has a go-bag!

I'm thinking somewhere tropical with water, how about you?

I have a go-bag, but, I only took three things out of it. If I didn't, I would be setting up a village! :)

That's great I should add a bit of dried food to it, the rations aren't the best but they work when you need them to!

You are so ready to go but i think it could be so heavy.

Aye, backpacks ready is my way to normally go, too. Besides, it saves time when I eventually go camping. I should build a habit of cleaning everything afterwords, though. Some old soil probably still somewhere in there. On the other hand...it could be used to plant at least a seed or two of some plant ;)

Can never be too prepared and you'll never know the day you'll need it. Also helps to unpack and repack every few months just to ensure everything is still working.

Yes! Best advice ever! I have seen some go-bags that have never been unpacked and hello! Stuff happens when kept dormant like that for a long time.

Yeah I've gotten into the situation where I didn't unpack and clean a bag once and had some leftover food that spoiled in it and had to throw the whole thing away. Not fun lol. Soil is a lot better to have haha

You're right about those seeds!

A good plan for modern day melt down. Do you already have a destination pre chosen or will it be chosen as you start the vehicle? There has to be meeting places in the event the whole family is not together. Contingency plans of locating each other.

Yes. That's a good idea. To have a place where we all arrive and meet again.

Really a good idea.

Excellent points!

That's important as well! I just this year had to tell my dad that there's a meeting place in case shit hits the fan. He didn’t like that it wasn’t his house but he’s in way more of a city than we are so I said no lol

Good suggestion .

Yeah. We have a contingency plan. That will at least give us a starting place for what we REALLY do.

Way more geared up for unexpected, something I have really never considered, being given an hour I would be sure to miss most things just trying to find them.

Yup, that's why it is always great to be prepared and have an emergency pack ready to go

All my life have been taught to "Be Prepared", then never did... 😂

Never know when being prepared will save your life! My wife calls me a doomsday prepper but meh, you never know when the day will call for it.

@joanstewart

I have always had a go-bag. Anyone working for/with Government does. I find it takes the edge off, knowing you are prepared. Simple things, but, I have used it when we had a hurricane, tornado, and once, even a flood.

Oh, yes. They move me to the garden spots in the world. :))

Living in region with extreme weather, a go-bag sounds more essential necessity. We have had floods, lightning storms adhere to common sense and keep going, never been moved... touch wood!

Have a wonderful new week @dswigle let the sun shine on you, keep smiling....

I have mostly stayed in place, but, there have been times the area has been evacuated. It is not the same spot, they just keep moving me to extreme weather places!

Seems like you're well prepared. You sure you're not SF?

!ENGAGE 20

I'm not sure what SF is, scared as fuck?

Lol

Seen some shit through my days in Emergency Services, never hurts to be prepared and never has is.

!BEER

Special Forces.

Unfortunately my orbital fracture prevented me from joining. A few of me mates joined and I've got to live vicariously through them.

Also been able to work with them over the past few years.

Hey @galenkp, here is a little bit of BEER from @melbourneswest for you. Enjoy it!

Learn how to earn FREE BEER each day by staking your BEER.

😂 You got me there at " ... when your wife kicked you out or mother-in-law stayed". 🤣

Hahaha yeah. Always need a back up

Lol! Good one 🤣

Ya I also read the wife kicked him out part lol

Hahaaa, Yes, it's definitely a great idea not only to survive when on a hike but when under any circumstances also.!!! Well prepared, @melbourneswest. You have more than enough kinds of stuff needed 👍

Can never be too careful on a hike sometimes!

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA teach me how to prepare a backpack like that, to run away from my mother-in-law when the time comes.

Wow. Truly, you are prepared if you have to live something like this. You already have everything organized. You are very cautious

You should sell these kits as you have described 🤣 you'll make a killing

Hahaha dooms day packs! I like it. They're quite expensive and mine holds a few thousand dollars in gear :(

The Mom in law survival kits - I think it would definitely catch on hahaha

Hahahaha yeah! Everyone would buy one. There is a bottle of pure alcohol also. Never know when you need to clean a wound or drink yourself unconscious 🤣

Hahaha I love that!

holy shit "dooms day packs". Brilliant. And there's a lot of people out there with tons of spare cash that spend their entire lives thinking about this day coming. I'm sure you could easily sell them for a couple grand!

I can see you are prepared for the worse and since you are used to things like this, it would be easier for you to cope with such thing and days in the wilderness. Lol

I would agree with you there, I'm quite resourceful. I have spent many weeks out in the middle of no where with no internet or phone reception.

Noting I have work equipment satellite phone etc but can't use it for personal use.

That's great then. You are good to go with all those items.

That is a good idea, but I am just laughing when you said about your mother in law stayed. Something isn't good enough.

Hahahaha! Oh the dreaded mother in law.... never good enough us men are 🤣

Really? You are not the only one complaining.

Dude, this is the best response i've seen. 😅

You're beyond prepared for it qll

Hahaha 🤣 I like to be ready for anything and everything. As mentioned on a previous weekend engagement post, my mother in law is my biggest fear 🤣

Quite understandably, 😅

Your bag too, you seem to have everything inside of it. What type of bag is it, cos I saw a new invention of bags that float. They are not heavy at all.

Oh man those solar panel chargers sound so good right now. I feel like I have everything down and ready except for electricity. Not the biggest issue but; it sure would be nice to have it in case you could still somehow contact loved ones. Good call!

They're good and great at charging phones although takes a little longer. Generators are good too so that might be my 3rd option but then I need fuel and depending how long your out in the woods for could be hard to come across and noisy so people will be notified of your position

Yeah I think the noise factor would definitely be unnerving! Regardless of if people are coming to your location, can you imagine trying to relax in this situation with that buzz going on? In the woods? I’d be anxious all the time, lookin over my shoulders every second that things on!

Hello @galenpk happy start of the weekend. Every week something interesting to answer.

If the only place I have to go is the desert, I would take a lot of water, I might run out of food but if I take water I know I can survive a little longer by staying hydrated.

I would carry a first aid kit, from medicines to small knives and ropes, we don't know when they will come in handy.

And lastly, I would take a pencil and a notebook to keep track of each day as it goes by, so I would occupy my mind and have a record of what I have experienced to tell my grandchildren 🤭.

Plastic container, wrap a plastic bag over it. Put your metal keys onto the bag so it dips into the plastic container.

The humidity from the desert will be drawn to the keys capturing moisture. The plastic container would collect fresh water pretty good.

Thank you for sharing.I would prepare for me too.

image.png

I'm not sure who galenpk is although I'll answer on his behalf, you know...Me, @galenkp. Anyway, water, first aid kit and a notebook seems reasonable. I mean, three days without water and a human perishes so...Good plan! I'll tell galenpk you say hi.

!ENGAGE 20

Hell, I've reversed the lyrics. But it's good that you answered because the message was for you.
And yes, with water it could survive a few days, it would be one of the most important items to carry

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

A first aid kit is a good choice. 😀

Of course we will not know when it is necessary. As my mother says, forewarned woman is worth two haha.

These are good and reasonable options, however how much water will you be able to carry and the effort will last for how many days? 5 liters would last about 3-4 days considering that we adapt to drinking little water, but it would also be an extra weight that would rob us of needed energy.

Good point, but taking into account that the rest of what I carry would not weigh so much and could carry in a backpack, and with my arms I could carry about 18 liters of water. With pride I can say that I have loaded them, when I have been at home without drinking water I have had to walk with that amount of water for a considerable distance.

AAhh sure, a strong woman! I might be able to comfortably with just 10 liters hehe.

That looks like a good deal to me. If I have to go more than a few days I'm leaving the desert behind for sure.

I have a really modest first aid kit in my fly bag and a better one in the car, but that's a pretty darn good idea.

The first aid kit never hurts, it is not known when we need it.

Some good ideas for things to bring! Water is crucial indeed but so isn’t keeping your mind occupied. That gets forgotten by people sometimes! The first aid kit is certainly something to make sure is readily available. Good choices!

I like to write love and heartbreak poems, but in those circumstances I would only write as I am surviving.
It would be something like this:Day 1 i'm still alive Day 2 I'm still alive and I only take sips of water. And so day by day, trying to keep my mind from thinking unpleasant things.

Even counting the days is a way to keep your mind sane! We rely on calendar stuff nowadays so going to survival mode without any notion of what day it is would be tough. Noting things down like that would be good!

Thus, we do not despair. And we stay updated del día.

We should have thought about music. Maybe music would help us to cope better. We could write, I'm alive and dancing"

You have had a very good idea, the truth is I did not think about music, I adore music, it helps me relax, dancing I could forget how overwhelmed the situation is.

But at the moment wearing things that would keep me alive until everything will pass I did not think of music. But if we can pack our bags again, let's not forget the music. So that we dance, dance, sing and make the wait more bearable.

Yes, I guess that’s for when we have more than 1 hour for packing... next time. We’ll just have to make music with what we have. Could make a string - instrument. 😃

That's a great list of necessary items to get ready for the adventure in the desert !!

Yes, it seems so. We can team up for the desert adventure

😂😂😂
You made me laugh when you said you would take along knives and ropes. Lol
It's a good plan as you get yourself prepared for the worse moment if there would ever be one. 😅
I think you have gotten good plans of all you will take along especially writing down everything you experience and encounter to tell your grandchildren.

Well the strings I don't know why I included them, hahaha. I do not know who I have to hold with the ropes.

I have a strong feeling that you'll find good use for those strings.

haha. Let's hope so. Because I still don't know what to do with them. I don't know who I'm going to hang up on 🤭

Lol! I think we could use it to create some zipline adventures.

Rope is actually a brilliant idea! With a good large knife and some rope you could easily build a shelter to help keep you away from the weather. Although, in the desert....

You have given me an idea, because the strings are packed by one just in case.
Building a shelter is good, although in the desert it is not very bright 🤭

Hahhaa no you're right; the desert you'd have trouble finding materials. But if you could; desert is also probably one of the places you'd need it most! I'm sure you'd save a tremendous amount of water just by having some shade from the sun

Yes, I will definitely need the shade, so I don't waste so much water, and I don't get dehydrated.

My go bag is always packed and contains
.
a Fero rod

a hand pump water filter that I always used to take on extended kayak trips so that I could drink water from Lake Superior

a hatchet

There are also tarps, cordage, cooking utensils, some fishing line and lures, a tiny butane stove, a couple of freeze dried meal packs, gloves, and I can't even remember what all.... If I had an hour, I would bring more food from my well stocked pantry and hand tools from the garage, and pack up the car. An hour is a long time, and if I could take my car, weight wouldn't be a factor. I could even take my kayak. Now if only my scooter batteries were solar charged I'd be all set! 😁
Actually, I live on the river in a rather out of the way spot in the woods on a dead end road. There is a fresh water spring just outside my side garage door and plenty of wildlife. I'd probably be safest staying in my house and waiting for my city kids to make their way here. It's not a bad sort of place to be isolated.

Holy cow! I'd be heading for the place you just described. Without the river :) I'll detail it in my answer but getting there would be the deal and what I'd spend much of my hour arranging.

Are you able to defend your place? If so it sounds perfect to me.

Great answer.

There are nearby damns on the river that prevent a lot of boat traffic and I am set back in the trees, Most of the year you can't see the house from the water. Defense? Probably not me alone, depending on the circumstances.
Don't forget to bring boots and a parka! The snow gets deep.

I'd have to steal them. I had an Eddie Bauer extreme parka and a pair of bunny boots when I moved here but when I realized I wasn't going back I donated them :)

The best defense is just not being seen. Sounds just about perfect. Near Lake Superior I'd guess that it's winter when you can see your house. Shouldn't be much traffic in a big time pandemic.

When we move to Florida or Texas I'm up in the air if we will be donating some of our winter gear. I have snow boots that can handle -20 degrees, the things are intense but do I keep them in case of this stuff happening? I can't decide lol. Good that you donated the things, we've been doing that a lot lately!

The all time forever low temperature here in Yuma is 24f (-5C) so really cold weather stuff just isn't needed.

Yeah that’s not bad at all lol

But Tom you need that river! That's your water supply right there :)

hello dear friend @ melinda010100 good afternoon
It is always good to have everything prepared to go camping, you never know when you can go out on one of these adventures.
It's great that you have a pump to filter the water, to be honest, I've never added one to my camping gear.
I take this opportunity to wish you a splendid afternoon

I love that hand pump! I've even packed it in my suitcase when I was traveling to countries that had uncertain water purity. They claim you can use it to get drinkable water from a mud puddle, although thankfully I've never had to do that!

really the performance of these equipment is extraordinary, nowadays they have evolved a lot, how good that you have never had to drink water in these conditions, the diseases that you can contract are terrible, I would not be so sure that the equipment filters to that extreme

Can you filter puddle water? It would disgust me to drink water from a puddle, so this filtered would not be able to do it

It would have to be an emergency situation, wouldn't it?

Hopefully that situation never comes.

@jlufer, my friend! I missed you!

When will you be doing a video with your camping gear?

Hugggs!

I can see you're prepared which is great, more people should be. In truth an hour is a very long time to get stuff together and I'd say I'd do it in 15 minutes and be ready to go including locking up the house and certain items in my safes for when I return. But for the unprepared...an hour isn't a long time, especially when a person is trying to decide what to bring. So...#beprepared like Melinda!

!ENGAGE 20

Thanks, I think a lot of my preparedness came from learning how to live out of a kayak and canoes for 2 weeks in the wilderness. My dream was to go out into the wilderness for months after I retired. Damn MS.

Yeah, that'll do it...Anything like that sort of thing brings a lot of understanding generally. Something about the wilderness that feels right to me, a shame things went the way they did for you as you clearly love it too.

Oh man, I hadn't even thought of the possibility of a return 😂 I was envisioning leaving my apartment a scrambled mess; not even time to close the door behind me!

I would always plan for a return. I am fortunate that I can get fairly remote not too far from home and so I'd forage and into urban areas and want to return home where possible to replenish supplies and so on...Might not be possible, but I plan for possibilities.

Depending on the situation I'd want to recce back into urban areas gathering what I needed, popping zombie heads (or others 😉) along the way, building equipment and supplies and besides it may be possible to make a return and reside there if everyone else has cleared out or died over time.

So, making sure my stuff was intact, safe and secure is important.

Those are all valid points. But also, I'm envisioning like an end of the world type situation. I'd probably ditch my two bedroom apartment and go find a nice abandoned mansion. There's plenty around here; vacation home city. I would want my belongings, true, so I guess I probably should close up shop. I'm not sure, depending on the situation though, if retrieving them would be worth the risk.

You bringing up the urban setting is important. So I'd probably have to ditch my area. We're all mountains here and the closest urban area is a good 30 miles away. There would be some good zones around there too, so I'd probably post up in that area somewhere.

But still, all things considered, you're right. Definitely worth it to lock up

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Staying hidden in your home sounds the ideal place to be Melinda.

Ha! Sounds like you would be safer in place! But, hello! You are one prepared lady!

Sounds like you are living in a great spot! I’m hoping to live somewhere like that someday where we are situated far enough away from people that it’s not out of the question that we wouldn’t get visitors on our road unless we knew them, but not so far out of the way they would need a 4x4 to get there lol.

Hatchets and machetes are crucial for survival stuff, good to see more people are in the mindset of this stuff and choose these things than I thought. That’s awesome!

I have lived much of of my life out of town and in the woods, and it was a bit inconvenient when my kids were in school, but the things they learned and the experiences they had with nature were worth all the miles I drove to go get a gallon of milk!
I bought this house because it was all on one floor and very handicap accessible, but it has turned out to be so much more than that for me. I can't get out into the wilderness like I used to, but having nature up close right out my window is a great way to enjoy my retirement years!

I'm all in for an ax. I like using it when I need it! Hatchets also, yes!

Yeah an axe is a best choice for long term stuff. You can do a lot with them! Potentially even craft more hatchets if you can find some iron and stuff lol

Yes, it didn't occurred to me that I can craft more hatches with it. I love working with wood!

Me too! We’ve got these fantastic pieces dry and ready to turn into something nice! Amazing looking maple, I’m excited and nervous to do something with it lol.

7E10BABF-4DB4-4346-85E3-D2E4ECB069FB.jpeg

Ahhh! They look so nice and inviting in their own way. I wish I had more space now and energy to play with wood.....but soon I will.
Will you let me/us see the results when you'll be done? Feel free to tag me if I'm not around.
Have fun and creativity while on it!

I thought about an axe as well. Unfortunately my axe is very heavy.. so I decided on my hatchet instead(which already lives in my backpack fortunately). But, if you wanted to carry it, that would be so much better!

Yes, I am a petite person and I either use an ax or if It is too much trouble, I go for the hatchet!

I'd say hatchet is the better call for this situation. Unless of course you won't be moving around much!

With this hernia now, I opt-in for hatchet!

Yeah hatchet is a good choice for sure! Lightweight but is perfect to do some of the work like cutting through stuff. I think we go for hatchet more here in the northern climes but the southern people will probably opt for a machete or something lighter since their trees and stuff they tend through is a lot thinner. Could be totally off on that too though lol

That’s a good point, I hadn’t thought of that. But I wouldn’t know any better 😂 having both a machete and a hatchet ain’t bad either though; they’re both pretty light weight

Wow, it is a good preparation and ready to go.Keep safe.

I hope it is never necessary! I'm getting far too old to be trying to live in a survival situation!🧓

I hope so sister, even me, I could not go so far away if it happens.

Hahaha okay the day is finally here… I can finally go into my full “The Walking Dead” mode…

Some context, I’m going to assume that this is in the same area I live in and regarding items I actually own. So for example I’m not taking my winter jacket cause there is no snow and I can’t take a gun cause well…

So this brings me to the following three items!

  • Knife
This is for protection, for hunting, for cleaning of food, for anything really.
  • Phone/Camera/Drone
I’m grouping these cause I actually have them in one bag, don’t fight me on this!!! 😂
The first part is communication, at some point you will hope to find others, or at least have contact with others. This is where the handy mobile phone comes in. I’m not sure if there is still going to be internet but at least for the first part of my doomsday scenario we might still be able to call.
The second part of this is to navigate, I’m not saying there is a hoard of zombies headed my way but if so I can and will spot them with the drone! It’s also just good to see where I am.
The third part is recording. If this scenario happens now I feel there is still a lot that I need to say. So I’ll record my thoughts, I’ll document my findings and I’ll even leave messages to friends and family in case anyone ever finds it.

(PS don’t worry; the car charger is already in the car 😃)
Also on of my camera lenses will be used to start a fire ….Shhhhhh don’t tell Canon

  • A tent….
I know it sounds simple but from what I’ve learned something that protects you from the elements is key. I’m also thinking that I can use the material for other things, a make shift filter for water maybe… Something I can use for fishing (some of those ropes).

I realize I don’t have a lighter, but I do have the camera lens and honestly, you can basically cook on a stone here between 11am and 3pm (it gets hot!).

Also, I’m so sorry Wilson… I’ll come back for you!!! 😩

The drone would be such a useful thing to bring. In a pandemic where everyone is running to the bush no doubt people would be scared and leave with nothing. Hoarding and stealing would be rife. Need to make sure you're monitoring the area and constantly Surveying it.

Good choice

Haha i knew you would see it my way!

Did you see the launch of the DJI Air 2s??? I'm seriously contemplating getting that one!

I did and I have been looking at them and they have good stats but my only issue is wind resistance and the amount of power they need to remain stable.

If my old Mavic Pro can handle all of the ocean and mountain winds I've flown in, I'm thinking this new one should be okay... I'm going to have to put it on the list unless dji finally decides to bless us with the mavic pro 3

I'm hanging to get Mavic Pro, I only have a DJI Phantom 3 Standard. It's a nice beast by all accounts and the batter life is amazing but I'm looking forward to the larger flight range on offer with the Mavic Pro.

I don't get out as much as I'd enjoy with the drone ever since having kids. A hobby that I really enjoy but miss out on :(

Ah yes got you... You should definitely make time for it, maybe combine it with family trips...

The mavic pro is no longer in production so I take it you're talking about the Mavic Pro 2

Hahaha okay the day is finally here… I can finally go into my full “The Walking Dead” mode…

About time right? 😉

Knife, drone and tent...This seems legit...You could use the drone to gather intel prior to moving through a particular area as well as recording the whole thing over time...Good plan...I hope you have lot's of batteries though. A tarp is a good idea as it can be used for shelter and many other things besides.

Well thought out. Nice work. I think you'll survive!

!ENGAGE 20

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Haha! Like how you grouped your phone, camera and drone. 😂

Haha! You have a portable charger as well right? Solar? If I spot any drone hovering my side of the wilderness, I’m going to assume it’s yours. If you see me waving frantically, it means I really need to borrow your charger. I forgot to pack mine. “One for all and all for one”. Sharing is caring.

Hahaha I see how you just used that against me... But fine, I'll share my solar charger for some frozen fruit... This cooking on stone thing is harder than I thought and I'm hungry 🤣

Haha! Frozen fruits coming up... or down. What's your location? @regenerette can help us with the cooking.

Hahaha if you walk about a mile straight towards the setting sun and then take a left at the 3rd windmill (on your right) ... Follow the path until you hit the big tree... Look for a small orange x (make sure it's orange! If it's blue, run!!!)
After the tree take a left and look for a group of small rocks that are in a W patter... , hide behind those rocks... I'll come and get you when the coast is clear.

(Gasping!) listen, for a minute, I was confused. I thought I was looking for an orange fruit, maybe because I just ran out of frozen fruits.
I then saw 2 X's, one was orange and the other blue. I decided to run as fast as I could . I'm out of breath. Listen, someone needs to tell me what's with the W- formation of these rocks. I'm hiding but I don't feel safe. I'm moving to the big tree to the right of the rocks. Please hurry!!! untitled.gif

Hahaha hey one for all and all for one!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Hahahahahaha while reading the first few lines I figured it must be really hot where you live.

basically you can cook on a stone here between 11 a. M. And 3 p. M. (It's hot!).

With this I confirmed it. I think it's hotter than where I live. You have a good profile to emerge victorious from a scenario like this.

Hahah okay hold on hold on... I haven't actually tried this but I'm sure it can work.. Maybe not a stone but a piece of medal could work... Right???

Hahahahaha try it before you go on the hike and let me know.

I really like the idea of a drone. I've got a place to go if it's really bad, but it would be REALLY nice to be able to watch the entry without being seen.

I have a fly bag (with one change of clothes among other things) ready right now, as well as my camping bag with everything I need for a few days.

I feel like everyone has to have a fly bag these days one can never be too prepared...we've become so dependent on all the luxury!

What's in your camping bag? Rope? Medicine?

Tent, sleeping pad, 2 sleeping bags, kitchen and all the stuff to support them. Rope, duct tape, para cord, tent stakes, pot and pan kit, coffee kit, 2 stoves (butane/propane mix and white (unleaded) gas), some dry food and stuff like Tuna and spam. A pretty good first aid kit. Oh, yeah. A 250 tab bottle of Tylenol. :)

Whoa! That's an extensive bag!
I like how the coffee kit is in there! Hahah people need that in any situation 😀.

Also, I’m so sorry Wilson… I’ll come back for you!!!

Comedy line of the day, I got a good laugh at that.

Some good things for a temporary modern day event.

Hahaha he needs to know I love him 🤣

Good choices here man! I would swap out a phone for a radio or some kind like a HAM radio or CB radio so you can talk to people. Those I think will be useful things to have if the situation calls for it.

The others are definitely important to have! We can make fire in lots of ways, if your phone dies you can turn part of the lens into a magnifying glass and burn something that way. A knife is one of the best things to have, preferably a giant one hahaha.

Hey MacGuyver is that you? 👀😀😀😀

I see you!!!

I'm learning new things here, I honestly have/had no idea what a HAM radio was... But do you think the mobile phone coverage would go down? Internet yes but normal calls?

(and now I'll quietly wait hoping you got that reference, the level of humor depends on it!)

It depends very much on what happens. If there's an EMP then cell phone coverage will be knocked out, the old school radios that actually run on radio waves I think would probably still work. If not, hey there's always smoke signals 😄

Haha who said anything about an EMP? Hhaha why are you making things worse for us??? 🤣

Lol No Connection in the Jungle Bro 😂 I'm pretty sure that your document findings will be something special that helps scientists. 😀 These stuffs perfect for you to survive and we need you to come back and make us laugh. Don't die brooo !!!

you can basically cook on a stone here between 11am and 3pm 😂😂😂

Your choice is so necessarily needed. That's good idea.

Thanks! Any food tips/recipes for cooking in the sun? 👀👀😀

Sure, I will show some recipes to survive.

That's a realistic & great topic for everyone to discuss, especially those who are adventurous and like doing outdoor activities hihii. Oh yea I'm going to have a big hike on Sun 😆 so I'm able to collect some useful tips from the topic later. I have recently done a lot of hiking and camping. I also reckon that there is much essential stuff to carry on a hike or camp.

  • To have enough energy to do hiking or exploring I definitely need a good sleep so my first item on the list is Tent (or Shelter)🙂
  • There is no internet in the forest and I'm not really good at direction so bringing navigation is really a must for me 😀
  • I'm not sure if I lost in the jungle and have to deal with the dangerous animals so having a knife to protect myself when I'm attacked or using it to chop firewood to make a fire for cooking is not a bad idea. 😆

Have a fab weekend guys !!!

Orienteering is a good tool for anyone to learn. Looking at a map and then knowing how to find where you are and to find your destination is a vital safety skill set. But you need to know how to use the tool, where is the steep terrain, where are the deep valleys or rivers, what does magnetic variation mean and do you need to take it into account to get to your destination.

It is good to see the mention of maps and getting unlost.

Hi, hi @bashadow thanks for engaging and your kind words.
Oh, yea..you just mentioned me...I need to know how to use the tool. I recognize I still lack essential skills to survive if I lost in the jungle. :((

Map reading and finding out where you are on it with just a compass can be difficult at times.

I'm not all that good with a map and compass, but I am damn good at reading terrain and maps and if I can see the sky once in a while can keep my direction pretty constant.

It is an important skill to have or develop, so many people today have never even held a map in their hands let alone a terrain map.

I've looked at a terrain map a few times but need to spend a little more time on figuring out how to properly use one. It's one of those things you wish to never need it but when you do it's a life saver!

We were taught a bit when young about night sky, sun is easy and normally something we do have daily. I'm more of a bad penny never been lost, might go slightly astray for a short while...

I have a 'directional bump'. I basically know which way I'm going all the time. Like you, Joan, I might be 'astray' for a bit, but not very long.

Never had that lost feeling, grateful to nature giving direction most times.

One time, on an island just offshore in Washington State. Got there after sundown and had a hard time getting oriented when the sun came up in the WRONG place. Took a couple of hours for me to get comfortable.

Yeah definitely it's great to be able to orient oneself to the surroundings, look at a map and have an idea of what's what. These are things that countless millions take complete advantage of never needing to know but will have to one day if things continue on this course.

Yea I can't agree with you anymore. I just went on a hike yesterday in the jungle and now I'm starting to learn how to orient myself to the surroundings. I normally rely on my friends, just follow them wherever they go...😂 and I just take photographs.

Great and useful topic @galenkp...!!

A tent is great! But jungle sounds scary. Are there preditors in the jungle? Australia is void of any nasties except snakes. But imagine running into a tiger or bear or something else!

Hey hey @melbourneswest, how's it going?
I heard a lot about wild animals and snakes in OZ. I don't dare to do a hike in the jungle there 😕😕

But imagine running into a tiger or bear or something else!

Oh no. I would be eaten 😭

Ah there not too bad. Only if they bite you! 🤣

We're very lucky here in that regards, snakes don't come out that often. Heading into winter now so it's too cold for them the come out. Safer in winter from them :)

Thanks @melbourneswest 🙂
I'm not a winter person but then I will do more hiking when the winter comes if I can avoid snakes. 😀 I love to take the road trips around OZ in the early fall, must be amazing..!!

Shelter, navigation and a knife...I'd say three pretty legit items to take with you for sure. I think you'll certainly find a use for each.

Have a great weekend Trang and thanks for getting into the spirit of the topic...And you get a larger vote for being the first to respond. :)

!ENGAGE 50

My pleasure :))
Wohooo that's sweet thank you for the big vote Galen !!! 🙂 Very much appreciated it.
Same to you have a wonderful weekend :))

Happy weekend Trang! ✅

Have a great week ahead Galen :))

 4 years ago (edited)

Weekend is bloody over girl! (crying just a little bit).

Monday mid-morning and I'm hard at work hive.

Have a good week too.

Lol.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Thank you !!! 😆

Shelter check
Navigation check
Knife check

I'm not so sure about the jungle, I CAN NOT imagine a snake attacking from above. Makes it hard to type just thinking about it. Ugggghhhh.

Sun in the day, stars at night should be good navigational tools. Perhaps getting off grid not so bad after all...

Hey dear @joanstewart, am glad to see you.
You just remind me of a young friend who likes doing weird things and never wants to open a flashlight when trekking in the forest at night. I'm really admired it.

Sun in the day, stars at night should be good navigational tools

It's so true :)

We have forgotten our natural abilities in the wild world, investing into things like GPS on cellphones, other mod-cons that in reality if things really went haywire would no longer be available.

Ha ha have to think about would could go wrong, how badly would it affect us, one tank of gas won't get you out of dodge...

That is my compass!

North Star will guide you 😉

Hello Tom, how are you?

a snake attacking from above

Oh no. I don't like snakes to be honest.. 😭You scare me 😕😕. I don't actually go jungle if I'm not sure how safe it is 😂 I'm not that brave 😂

I deal with some around here, but they are almost always down around my feet. I NEVER look up to see if I'm in trouble :)

I remember once going out to my Grandfather's timber lot to cut some firewood. We left fairly early in the morning with the plan to come back when it got good and warm. We took a burlap wrapped water bottle with us set it on a rock ledge near where we were cutting. When we took a water break there was a rattlesnake wrapped around it. Not good.

Nothing motivates quicker than a snake, takes you off on a tangent of getting out of the place in a hurry.😆

Yes, snakes can be damn fine motivators.

Always give them and spiders a wide berth, they have right of way 😄

Oh no, not good 😭😭. Luckily it wrapped the water bottle not your feet.
I don't know what to do if I was in that situation...I don't think I can move, I may be just standing there forever and pray 😂

My grandfather poked him with a stick and got him moving. Pretty exciting, though. It was the first snake we'd seen that year, and my dad really hates rattlesnakes. I mean seriously.

Some good choices here! I enjoy that you make some smart decisions with your choices, those things are life or death! Shelter, maps and a good machete or hatchet are crucial things to have when you are in a survival situation. I think you’ll learn a lot as you go but you’ll be well protected and have an idea of where you are at least. Good stuff!

I think one of the things I’m going to add to my duffel bag in the car is an old fashioned paper map. Things go south, paper and that stuff is going to be what we have to do, regardless of what ones comfort level with it is.

hello dear friend @trangbaby good day
By now you may have already started your Sunday walk; I hope you are enjoying it or you had a great time, and the advice you read was useful.
without a doubt to enjoy a good walk, being rested is very good.
A compass or a gps is very good in this type of situation, a knife is very useful, it serves many purposes.
I take this opportunity to wish you a happy Sunday and an excellent start to the week

Hello dear @jlufer, Yea I just came back from my hiking and now Hive on 🙂. I really enjoyed my weekend here and I hope you had a wonderful one. Thank you for engaging and your kind words, very much appreciated it.
Have a good week ahead, and see ya around :)

Pretty meaningful choices. So I'm wondering have you ever cut someone with a knife, because you wound like you've used one 😅

Sounds like I'm very professional at using a knife ha ( Honestly I'm not lol) I haven't cut anyone but myself, especially my fingers 😀😀

Beautiful poor fingers.
I think I would take legal steps for them fingers. :)

My 3 items would be...

  1. José who carries my charcoal tablets, for cleaning water or ones stomachhe would also carry Joy and his food as well as Joys water canister and his cushion and all the other stuff we need, but he counts as one item ;)
  2. My fire striker/artificial flint/ferrocerium that is on my key chain anyways to start a fire.
  3. A machete to chop stuff like wood to build a shelter, humans that annoy me or the coconuts on my islandcouldn't find the machete so it's not in the picture lol

From what I know José is legit so a good choice there. The ability to make fire is another good choice I'd say - Fire is life. Machete...Well of course.

Some good choices here and good items to add to your loadout. If you forget your machete, don't worry, I have a few so you can loan one.

!ENGAGE 20

The basics I wold say lol. Would you ship the machete? 😂

Yeah no worries. I have a few...I've got a cool one shaped like a Gladius...You can have that one...Don't cut yourself though - It's sharp!

Lol, I try not to hurt myself. So whenever I need one I hook you up 😄

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

These are good choices, the machete would be a great help for a good coconut that comes along the way.

Thanks, just gotta make sure I end up in the Caribbean 🌴 😄

It would be an excellent crossing if it could end there 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

Yah could be worse I guess, well depending which island...let me think here real quick...🤔 had to be big enough to have some space, had to have enough coconuts and certainly some gin...gotta make a "Sky juice" plus it needs to have plenty fruit and banana trees so we don't go hungry...ahhhh you know what...screw survival, we go to a resort in the Bahamas 🤣 🍹

If so I set aside my quota from now 🤣🤣 don't leave me please!!!!

Lol, we meet at the bar if one gets lost 😂

I'm up for coconuts.

Wow. Makes me wonder why I didn't think of Jose. That's some serious preparedness!

I have half dozen lighters stashed in my fly bag, but I also always have a survival tool that has a magnesium strip and steel, just in case.

Lol, I'm not sure he is happy about his carrying part but one has to do it right? 😅 ...in the end I would end up dragging all that stuff around 😂

The fire steel part works no matter what lol. I know my luck, I would have packed the empty lighter 🤣

I always carry a supply of charcoal tablets in the house! The things are wonderful and work so much better and healthier than the shit they try to tell you to take for vomiting or diarrhea. Charcoal for the win!

Other good choices, I need to get me a better striker like that. The one we have is cheap and doesn't start a fire unless it's doused with gasoline hahaha. Better than nothing but I failed at making a fire with it this past season.

I'm glad to see someone else say machete instead of a tiny little knife. If you need to survive go big or go home and get a machete lol

Lol...exactly.

My striker is from "The friendly Swede" Check em out if you can.

Your machete we refer to as a panga, very useful for getting through rough terrain 😄

A good looking Crocodile Dundee is also very useful to get through rough terrain 😂

Yeah one of those could go down too, keep ahead... I'll follow 😉

The machete yes, I need to pack mine too, but mine is also in a mysterious "safe" place so I can't find it either. Having a toddler makes it difficult to keep sharp objects close at hand, they tend to end up in the highest cupboards of the house

Lol understand. I know a person that is sort of lending out machetes ;)

Humans that annoy you?!!!!!!😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂

🤷‍♀ It happens 😂

True, but that really got me 🤣

I'm always happy if I can make people laugh 😊

Its your forte.

Now lets talk about your charcoal tablets?

Whats that about 😅

Charcoal is actually a great way to clean water from bacteria, heavy metals and toxins, stuff that can pollutes water. If you have diarrhea charcoal helps too.

Oh man, my army webbing kit is a must, filled with protein packed dog biscuits, a fire kit and utensils, sleeping bag, medical kit and basically everyting else that you can think of.
Secondly I would have a few Ostrich egg shells filled with water, plugged and buried for later use.
And thirdly my bible, to pray that a lightning bolt or a lion doesn't get me.

Interesting choice, you know, for one thing, you still have your bible, that speaks a lot of your faith.

To each his own my friend and I my case, my bible is the handbook for my life.

Thats beautiful.

Interesting choices as far as the ostrich eggs...I mean I know they have hard shells and all but are they often used for water storage? Interesting stuff. I'm with you on the webbing...I have a big post going up tomorrow answering the weekend-engagement topic and I mention my go-bag with a heap of stuff...Webbing does the same thing...It's the fact it's ready to grab and go that matters.

Hmm, lightning bolt or lion...Either would probably mess you day up a little. Best avoided. Lol.

!ENGAGE 20

Ostrich shells was a secret that we learned aboy in the army Galen.
They make a perfect water bottle and for some reason the water stays fresher for longer than when it's stored in metal and plastic.

The Khoi-San was the first people in the Cape and they have a fantastic history. Dressed in buck skin loin cloths, they survivedby hunting with a bow and poisoned arrows. They used snake venom to poison the tips of their arrows, so if they wound an animal, they would follow it, as the venom would eventually lame the animal.

They lived in the bush and crossed the wide plains of Africa on foot. Masters of tracking anything that left a mark on the sand. It is said that when they scored an animal, they would eat until their stomachs swell up, and then won't eat for the next 3 days.
I don't know how true this is, but you can always ask Mrs. Google.
https://www.exploring-africa.com/en/botswana/san-or-bushmen/hunting-san

I have heard of these people before...It's amazing how humanity have always seems to find a way to thrive...I wonder how it'll go in the next 100 years though. I'll be dead, but I still wonder.

I think that the people 100 years ago also wondered how thing would be now Galen.
Disposable flying cars, electronic chips in everyone's head, no food and only nutrient rich pills.
So many things that one can think about, but you are right, as thankfully we will not see it.

There's much change to come...Probably most not for the better.

Sorry, late as been away the whole day. Hey that rhimes.
"In those days you will see things that you have never seen before"
So true, as even a little virus that we have never seen before has stopped the whole world.

I don't look forward to the things the next generations are going to have to deal with. I'm hoping to set ourselves up in a way that gives the little man some land away from people that he can grow his own family on and stay far away from the technocrat shit they are trying to force on everyone.

This is smart thinking...if you can make it happen, help him develop the skills he will need then I htink you'll be doing him a service. Those kids playing fortnight right now, hanging out at the skate park...Well, let's just say their skills will not be much use to them. Just saying.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

I've heard of the Ostrich eggs for water bottles but have 0 experience as ostriches are just pretty rare around here.

An Army ruck (sack) would work pretty well, particularly if there was a rifle and ammo in it. :)

I don't think that Ostriches like to migrate Sir Tom, they only fly around here locally 🤣
But one never knows, with all of the global warming going on, maybe one will land there in your neck of the woods one day:)

Yep, you are right, a rifle will always come in handy.

Cheers and !BEER

Hey @bigtom13, here is a little bit of BEER from @papilloncharity for you. Enjoy it!

Learn how to earn FREE BEER each day by staking your BEER.

An ostrich egg huh? Are they durable like steel or something? Lol sounds like I need to learn more about those things!

Some good choices and having the Bible is a first one I've seen but important for many people so I can definitely see where someone would keep it handy! Plus it would be good to read something while you are in a long term situation. What better than the good book?

Yep, Ostrich eggs have very thick shells and for some reason they keep the water fresh to drink.
The Khoi-San hunters had marked spots on the wandering trails where they buried the eggs filled with water in the sand. They were a nomadic people and never stayed for long in one place.
So when the hunters went out, they knew where to find water.

Our forefathers traveled in darkest Africa with the bible in their ox wagons and they faced many life threatening dangers with a rifle in the one hand and a bible in the other. So yeah I ave learned to trust in miracles, as we see many of them happening in our charity work.

Cheers and #LUV

I interpreted this as a scenario where civilization has collapsed, at least temporarily and I need to survive in the wilderness for a time.

• knife
• Lighter (or flint)
• Tarp

•Knife as a basic tool. You can do pretty much anything you need to with a knife.
• Lighter because fire would be essential for warmth, cooking, boiling water (if i found something to boil it in) etc.
• Tarp to stay dry. I currently live in France and it rains a lot here. Being wet lowers you body temperature significantly, it can rot your clothes, and cause trench foot, rashes, fungus like athletes foot... etc

Thats what I'm thinking at this point.

Good choices. I especially like the tarp. God knows I've slept under a tarp draped over my motorcycle plenty of times in 'adverse weather'.

I used to say that you could drop me in the middle of the Bob Marshall wilderness naked and if I had the right knife and one little piece of magnesium I'd walk out with no problems.

I'm older now, I need a LITTLE more stuff...

Lol that sounds like a rough night sleep under a tarp!

I found this meme today and thought of you hahaha

4A8435F9-77C0-4DE3-A070-F3135661BD8D.jpeg

This is gold. Love it!

Ahahahahaha! Rodger DeCoster took the dirt motorcycle world by storm in the mid 60s. After another win on Wide World of Sports Jim McCay asked how he got so good so fast. In his less than perfect English (he is Swedish) he said "I learned early two throttle postitions. Eat and starve." with example!

Interesting, what do you do with the magnesium?

Scrape it with good steel and you get a nice long hot spark. It really works well!

Interesting. I didn't know that magnesium sparked. I've seen flint and magnesium combo fire starters but the ones I've seen you had to scrape the magnesium off with a knife and form a pile in your fire bundle, then hit the flint with steel to create a spark and light the magnesium. The Magnesium catches fire and burns super hot and helps start your fire bundle. Is this what you're talking about the magnesium and flint combo or do you mean just magnesium? I didn't know that magnesium sparked by itself.

Yep, this is good stuff...Well thought out and specific to your location and terrain. I have a post going up tomorrow with my own three items and I mention terrain and the fact go-bag's need to be tailored. It's only a short post, about 1300 words, so yeah...A bit of stuff in there. Lol.

Knife, lighter and tarp. Legit.

!ENGAGE 20

I'll try to look out for your next post on the subject

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Ohh a smart, light and timely choice. The hardest season to escape would be in winter.

Good choices! It sounds like you have some basic knowledge for survival and how to keep your body in a better place so you don't get sick from your environment. Great ideas here!

Sounds like a perfect survival kit

😃It’s the Weekend! Yay!
There are so many things I’d grab in that hour. I’m assuming that it isn’t winter because I simply don’t want to go to the wilderness at that time. 😂 Now to reveal 3...
⏺ Water

⏺ Food

⏺ Light

Water - I need water to keep hydrated and to keep myself clean.

Food- I need to eat. I’d pack some canned foods, hoping they’d last for a while. I’d also pack some frozen fruits and veggies to munch on before I start grabbing and eating random leaves and any fruit-like looking thing. (I know, munching seems to make light of the situation , don’t judge me...lol!😂)
Light- Have to be prepared for the dark hours. Need to see what’s happening around me. Ain’t no wild animal going to get me or my food.

Water food and light...Seems legit...I like the frozen fruits idea...You should take some ice cream too...And the freezer. Lol.

Thanks for joining in and having some fun.

!ENGAGE 20

Haha!! Now you have me thinking what flavor ice-cream I should pack. I wonder which flavor works best in the wild. After all, we have to add some coolness to the wilderness.😂🤣

Macadamia I'd say...Although I rarely go past vanilla. I'm simple.

Haha!I usually go for vanilla too. Now I’ll have to go revise my wilderness-survival list. Got to be ready. Macadamia it is. Thought of pistachio but no time for more changes. 😆

Lol...Any ice cream will work. 😉

Good to know. 😃

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Thank you. 😃

Light is a very good option. The truth is that I did not think about the dark night and in my three elements I did not I included a flashlight or something like that, so I team up with you. LOL. Take me to your car please and let's go

😃Team light, let's go lol!!! We’ve got to see our way through this pandemic. I love that you've packed a first-aid kit. I should have thought about that. Sounds like we'd somehow have to team up and zipline some items to each other throughout the wilderness.

We will make a good team together. Let's run haha

Yes we will. I'm ready but I don't have a good sense of direction. Do we just go to any part of the wilderness or are there assigned spots? Is there a map we should follow? Please tell me there's google map in your first aid kit. By the way, I'm hoping you like macadamia ice cream, I have that packed.

It's just plain hard to argue with those three :) Pretty well covers what a guy needs...

Can’t argue with a solar panel charger either. Sounds brilliant. 😃

Lol would be some quickly eaten frozen foods if it's not winter! Good snack to start the journey I would say! Good choices, all are important!

Haha! You're right. Now I'm wondering if we get the chance to choose the season we go to the wilderness. I don't want my stuff to melt too quickly. Lol!

What source of light are you planing, cos if its electrical, I don't thing electricity is out there 🤣🤣

Lol!! You never know what’s out there but I’ll go with the traditional flashlights. What do you suggest? Have you packed any form of light?

the flashlights would runnout, so its best to pack say a lot of lighters or matches or something.

I think fire lights are going to last longer

You’re right but guess what? I’m already out, basically in the wilderness. Don’t think it’s a good idea to turn back. How far are you? Do you have extra lighters? Could I borrow a few? I promise to buy you back some if we survive.

Nice 🤣

I'd share with you, I also think certain people are nice enough to share with you so, we're gonna be okay after wll

Thanks. I know people are nice. Just not sure who's willing to share in a crisis. So happy you'll share your lighters. I'll give you some of my frozen fruits or ice-cream if you prefer. I see a brown vehicle approaching. Is that you?

Old canvas fridge to hang from a tree should keep your fruits and veggies good for a couple of day @fruityfruitz

Haha!!! You're right. Canvas fridge, packed! Lol

I've got an old one hanging around about sixty years old.... and it still works!

That’s awesome. I hope you’ve got it packed. Since it’s been so faithful, it will surely help you through this experience we’re facing. . I’m not sure of your exact location. This wilderness is bigger than I had expected. Hoping we are fairly close. I’d love to pop by to see the fridge.

Our inner nomadic lives are somewhere in archives, a little searching I am sure many could survive off the land, not all but many...

Haha! I love frozen fruits! It would be amazing that we all meet in a such a place so I can cook for you all. I like cooking for others, at home or on in a wild part of the world, on a beach.

Sounds great. We can have a party after all. I really think everyone would appreciate some good food. I certainly want to be in your neck of the woods. Lol

I'm all in when it comes to food and cooking!

Love it!! If we had more time before going to the wilderness, we could have found out what skill each person has and set people in strategic locations to help each other.

Ah...management, yes!
We can arrange that there also!

You’re right, not too late.

I would start packing stuff in my Syncro Passat, it would already be full on tank, sleeping bag and a blanket are always in it because I love sleeping in hotel under a million stars with lots of other useful items that would be perfect for this type of scenario. Syncro would also be my shelter, escape and my tent or a kitchen in a rainy forest in the midle of nowhere, far away high in the mountains... surounded by zombie's and hungry bears.

  • Amadou mushroom ( because making fire would be easy, escaping with fire would be even easier and would make an epic escape to the next hiding spot, while setting up another camping spot. As a muchroom hunter that means I would have nice cooked, easy meals and delicious mushroom soup what ever other edible shroom I would find on the way ! :) - would use hot Turbo off Syncro's TDI to get first fire going and would continue finding new Amadou's to also make myself : boots, hat, pillov and clothes.. > leather like material)

So I would definitely relly on mushrooms because I never held a real gun, im probably a bad catcher and I'd need for make friends with a hunter..... but that doesn't mean I would go vegan in the situation !!

  • Fishing rod - would be my next pick, not an expert fisher, but would be easier for me to catch a fish than jump on a rabbit bare handed.. Would use Bear's garlic and other plants to make meals even more delicious, really healthy, full of proteans and fat's i'd need to run away from the zombies that would speak repeated memes off social medias and tv about the pandamic situation!

Then all I would need would be some extra protection, something to chop with, something to preprare my meals with, something to make baricade around my Syncro with.. and maybe even spend some quality time with and grow my experience to shorten the pandemic time, to not get bored up high in the mountains.

  • An Axe - a little bit custom, really sharp and middle size (I'd prepare wood for myself to make really good fires fast, with prepared wood I'd drive on the roof of my Passat. Build some kind of protection and traps around my camping sight, to make some art with it out of the wood to shorten the time, make nights warmer and keep the fire burning inside me!

I would need to really improvize, be quick, stealthy and use my Syncro's potential in all of its glory to get me out of trouble, mud, snow and as far away from pandemic zombies as possible !!!
I probably wouldn't be hungry, cold, nor bored, but I would really need to level up my hunter skills to get some meat, smoke it, dry it.... and live & survive like a king on top of a clif.
... like a grown Simba ! Rawr!!!

Thank you for your time, ideas for great contest and even awesome challenge for the next "lock down" Challenge accepted!

Stay awesome, be friendly and most of all... stay Happy, Strong & Healthy everyone!

We meet with the ax and the fishing rod, I said I need a rope, to get smaller, thinner pieces from it and transform it into a fishing rod. Excellent answer.

With a book on how to hunt, we'd be unstopable! :)

You had me at mushrooms and warmth, not so sure about pandemic zombies lurking around making a noise 😂

We got to be prepared for any situation, right ? haha !
Have a great sunday!

Welcome to the weekend engagement topic! Awesome to see new faces here!

I think these are good choices and I hope you add some extra gas cans to the roof of your Passat so you don't run out of gas with it for a while lol. Otherwise those are great choices, an axe, fishing pole and lots of mushrooms for food. Can't go wrong with those!

Rawr! Thank you, awesome to be here!

Thats why I got the Sincro in TDI version, doesn't burn much of diesel, and I bet it would do atleast 900 kilometers on the road, in mud or snow.. they do not build tanks like this anymore. Oh not just food, mushrooms would also be my clothes, blankets, pillows, my medicine, my friend and probably my main tool to find friends with - they smell and taste delicious!

It's a good choise, but doiesel cans would make more than 3x choises :)

What a great answer hear and you raise a good point about making friends as in these situations collaboration with others can broaden available skills and opportunities leading to a better existence. You seem to have some mushroomy skills which is good and I think you are on the right track!

Nice work...Your first time in the #weekend-engagement topic too. Welcome.

!ENGAGE 20

Thank you very much, it already feels awesome to be here!
Yes well we never stop learning and we have to level up every day in everything we do, especially doing what we love and are passionate about.

Fun fact: we are mushrooms
They are not just healthy, but have medical purposes and were used to heal and treat many if not all diseases for thousands of years, they are the biggest living creature on earth as they use mycelium and are the oldest species that were on earth.
It's hard finding friends, but like mr. Tesla once said "If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.”

Oh Thank you! How do I engage in them?

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

First off, thank you for always putting out engagement post like this. I always don't get notified soft, a favor: if you could mention me somewhere in your post, that be much appreciated. There is nothing I enjoy more than human interaction, it is like a breath of fresh air for me, having deep and insight conversation with savvy.

You never go wrong with the outdoors @gelenkp. Nature for me is the ultimate healer. Thats why, like you, I love spending as much time as I can on the outdoors. One time, after sitting for hours working at my desk at my former place of work, I felt so exhausted, then I head slight drizzle of rain, i immediately went out, sat under the rain. Everyone looked at me like crazy person but, I felt super refreshed.

Now, the order of the day.

What are three of items you take.

There are a lot of grey areas to this, like with a vehicle i could take more than three things, etc, but I'd let it slide, 😅.

  • canned food and drink - This is a more logical answer. The wilderness is not provide anything but immense heat and sand, so the first and probably the most important item would be to take as much food as you can since you have a passenger seat, and depending on how long one would stay.

  • Ammunitions and weapons - I don't posses any, or know how to wield one, but for safety one has to be prepared for the wild. A logical amswer here too.

  • Books - illogical answer. 😅 this is more of a personal choice than need. For the countless hours in the desert, this would be my only companion. After putting up a shelter of course. 😁

Same as me, I'm not in office mode 😉😀. My mind always flies out in nature.

Hey, welcome to the weekend topic. Great to meet you here.

I have to say you have excellent picks, especially I love the idea of having a book with you. Laying down in the middle of somewhere in nature and reading the book. Wow, so enjoy !!! Love it

Good thing your mind, hehe.

Hey @trangbaby. Nice to meet you too.

Thank you, but now I'm thinking a book won't save me when its dark, might need light. Lol

I just went to a camp. Trust me, we don't need light. There are thousands of star in the sky 🙂

Thats beautiful.

The desert would surely have stars and that would illuminate the whole place.

A great answer here. The books thing...It could seem a waste but keeping oneself sane in a situation like this is critical and books can help. You'd probably want to limit them, and be very selective, but it isn't as illogical as one may think at first.

Nice one!

!ENGAGE 20

I couldn't agree more with you.
I even am starting to have a rethink.

But luckily for me, some folks here would share 😁

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

That's a good few choices you have with these! Having a book to pass the time is important, hopefully it's a really long one so you take a while to read it lol.

Like anything, if you get a gun with ammo you can figure it out. Cleaning them is a different story but not something that will be high on your priority list in a situation like that!

Bringing food is important for a situation like yours where you are stuck in the desert. That's definitely a tough one!

Ha yes, you understand perfectly.

Although I'm having a rethink about the books, lol.

What do I do when it gets dark?

3 items that I would take in case of fleeing to a place alone.

There are many things that I would like to take with me to that place alone, in case I had to carry them in a backpack, because I don't have a car, I would only take:

  • First of all my Bible, because in it I find comfort, satisfaction and spiritual consolation, and for sure I would need it since it would be a time of much confusion and spiritual affliction.

  • The second thing that I think I could not be without is water, because I consider that it is my vital liquid and food for my body.

  • I am not addicted to material things, so as a third element I would carry a first aid kit with everything possibly necessary for the moment.

These are absolutely best items to carry when you go somewhere alone 👍💖

That's right, although I've read a lot of good ideas around here.

Water is critical. I guess one can only carry so much and considering the average adult will require about 2-3 litres a day whenat rest it's a good idea to consider methods of purifying it rather than carrying it. The Lifestraw is a good option.

Good choices here, you need to know what is important to you and in this situation, what will sustain your life.

Good choices here! Water is crucial to have but so isn't a book like the Bible to keep ones mine in the right state so you don't go crazy while you are trying to stay alive!

🥘, ⛺️ , 🗡
Food- What do I need to survive in the forest or anywhere for that matter. Yup you said it food. The average human (I’m one of them) cannot last too long out there without food so the first thing I would consider packing is some food. You could argue that one could hunt or scavenge out in the wilderness for things to eat but not everyone is equipped with the know-how to decide what plants 🌱 are edible or how to hunt. Wouldn’t want to be surprised or get the runs because I ate the wrong thing.

Shelter(tent)- Baring having a cottage, condo or cave in the woods I’d probably need a tent. It’s mobile so I could move again anytime if the location I’m at becomes unsuitable due to wild animals or some act of nature. I wouldn’t want to be exposed to the elements out there at night or day for that matter. I’d say a tent would be a very useful thing to have.

A knife or Machette- This could come in very handy in the woods. If you’re not already aware knives are useful for cutting, peeling, self defense etc. I may need to peel an apple 🍎 or cut firewood. You can’t deny that having a machette in the wilderness would be pretty handy.

Excellent...Don't forget to explain your answer as per the topic post.

@galenkp Oops. Sorry about that.

Lol...Figured. Just do an edit to your comment.

Done 😆. Thanks @galenkp

Food, shelter and protection...Seems legit.

Also, I'm pretty aware what knives are for and how to use them in all applications, but thanks for the clarification. Lol.

!ENGAGE 20

@galenkp Lol. Thanks. Re: the knives. Just wanted to make sure 😆. But you’re right most people know what a knife is for sure. I feel some people may not know what a machette is though. Do you agree?

Hmm maybe...I guess it depends on a person's experiences. Me? Well, I know what this stuff is, how to use it and when...So it's all good. Thanks for joining in this week and I hope you'll be back!

I’ll be back untitled.gif

Lol.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Good choices here! It's definitely not something many people are aware of what is edible and what isn't. I'm preparing a little homemade book on the things locally that are edible and what's not. It's a fun thing to do and what I think many people should do, lots of colleges and universities have this type of information available online somewhere from students working on projects and stuff so it was pretty easy to find!

I would hope everyone knows what a knife is used for hahaha we aren't that pathetic of a society yet! I imagine one day they might get to that level lol.

Thanks @cmplxty. Would love to see your list of local edibles when your book is done.

It's been on the back burner for a little while but I'll make some progress on it soon. I thankfully saved the link that I was using to get all my information! I just need to figure out how to get it bound into a little book.

All the best @cmplxty .

Man these are getting DEEP lately. This one is almost as hard as your last one!

As I've noticed some others talking about, I am only going to use things that I already have. I doubt my dog counts as an "item"-- but, fortunately for me, he has a "to-go bag" of his own!

Last year I bought Raiden(doggo) a little hiking "backpack". This was mainly due to the fact that normally when we hike I, obviously, carry all of our supplies. It's really no big deal, but as my backpack is always chock-full for work purposes, it either meant dumping out the whole thing and reassembling it after OR, the worst case, glass breaking when coming into contact with my tools. This is because I really don't have any well-sealing plastic jugs for water, and I always cut up or recycle any potential solutions for that and don't realize until we're setting out on a hike. My go-to used to be a half-gallon glass ball jar- not the best.

So, item number 1 is Raiden's bag. In it, there are his things; a collapsable doggy double-dish, a collapsable water pouch, some dog food, and his light and a reflective bandana. Additionally, I have a multi-tool in there at the moment with a pretty decent knife on it. There's still plenty of room in the bag and things go in and out.

Number 2 is MY bag. It is usually chock-full of hand tools, including a sheaved machete and a hatchet I found at a flea market years ago. Occasionally my Milwuakee drill is in there as well; which would probably come in handy but the drills kill those batteries pretty quick. But there's a socket set in there in case I need to handle anything with my vehicle and even a spool of twine for fashioning shelter/things of that nature. And, of course, ZIP TIES!

Luckily I already have a gas canister in my car so I won't need to waste number 3 on that. I always have a lighter in my pocket. So, I suppose number 3 would be a cast iron pan. I decided that I needed something to cook with. I thought about a tent as well but figured I would be living in my vehicle. If something should happen to my vehicle, well, given the circumstances I'm sure there would be abandoned vehicles peppering the landscape and I could switch off. But I have to eat. I can make fire with what I have, and fashion surfaces to cook on; but the pan would really bring everything full circle.

I'm sure if this situation did hit I'd be throwing a hell of a lot more in the car and my bags. But, if I had to pick up and go right now, I'd really only need to grab our two bags and a pan! Not so bad!

Man these are getting DEEP lately

Lol...When my knucklehead noggin works properly it deep-dives on occasions.

Doggo-go-bag + personal go-bag = Total legitidity! 😂

I like your answer and the way you think. I know you're a fairly practical dude, good with your hands and probably quite smart also based on your posts so...Yeah, I'm not surprised at your answer here.

A tarp is a good alternative to a tent and there are so many good cooking devices around, more light-weight than cast iron, but if you have the ability to carry iron then do it as they are better overall to cook on. I use JetBoil stuff for cooking when travelling without my camper trailer...Light and effective.

There's so much one could/should/would take and that's why I only wanted three items...Yours are great...Everyone's have been to be honest.

!ENGAGE 20

Oh yes a tarp! How could I forget that haha. I stand strong with my three choices above but maybe I should put a tarp in my backpack anyways.. that could always come in handy.

It's funny how these prompts really stick with you in your head.. I just took my dog out for a walk and looked in the recycling and saw my room mates orange juice container and thought back to my plastic/glass dilemma. And now! I'm already thinking of putting a tarp in my backpack just based on this situation haha.

I appreciate the kind words haha. I had so much fun reading people's responses. I spent a solid hour reading through them before I realized it was Sunday and the store was closing early.

I definitely think I'd stick with the cast iron. One pan, super versatile, I have a fairly small one that isn't TOO heavy.. and then again I'm a bit of a monster; 6'3", pretty used to lugging around heavy shit up and down mountains.. so I don't think the pan would kill me haha.

Raiden could stand to lose a few pounds. Maybe if I get sick of the cast iron I could attach it to his backpack 😂

Cast iron pots are good for cracking heads too, especially when they come from 6'3" up in the air. Lol.

The cool thing about talking about this stuff is that there's always something to be learned, adapted or implemented. Constantly honing skills in this area is a good way to be. For me it's fun too!

Definitely! To all of the above, including crackin skulls 😂

I always kind of passively think about these things but it's nice to actively think about them. And it's especially nice to read other's thoughts on the subject and learn from those!

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Nice choices here man! I didn't even think of cookware so having a pan would be huge. Cooking that rabbit or squirrel you caught on a nice pan would be a lot easier and taste better than just skewers lol.

A mechanic at heart! I used to drive around with all my tools in my trunk or back of my truck when I had one. Weighs about 250 pounds so it reduced my gas mileage but I didn't care. You were good to go with something that broke while out there. Great choices man! Love the dog backpack lol

I used to keep all my tools in my car too but the car I have now is tiny and I just couldn't do it anymore. I couldn't fit anything in my car if I even just had my dog with me haha.

Thanks man! It was a tough go but as soon as I remembered the dog backpack that was a no brainer haha. The pan came to me last minute. Definitely haven't changed my options haha

I would take with me:

  1. A knife – You usually need to cut something to eat or fabricate some items. Anyway, I would probably die very fast in a taught survival situation considering my vegetarian senses, or I would panic and do things I might regret later.

  2. A survival kit – I prefer to feel safe and secure in dangerous situations. I have also bought several things to keep myself secured whether is necessary or not – it does keep my mind safe at least 😄
I mean sprays, stunt toys, tactical pens…this kind of stuff 😁

  3. A tent – I survived almost 3 months at the seaside into a tent, so it might help me with something here as well. I think now at those 2 seconds pop-up tents that you can fold in one week as well hahaha 😅 This is a part of my tent I have used for almost 3 months. I realized I don’t have a full picture of it. I tried here to take a photo of my kite actually. lol

174379092_774798639817976_7234943576064927066_n.jpg

Finally, I will put all these objects in @melbourneswest’s backpack. hahaha

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Three legit items that are going to make this scenario, should it ever happen. much easier for you. Although, I laughed a bit at your comment about being vegetarian...Yes, that would be a very difficult thing to maintain in a survival situation...It's another interesting topic actually...Having specific food requirements in survival situations. Sure, eat grass but...Well, we all know that's not going to keep a person alive.

Thanks for joining in! Greatly appreciated.

!ENGAGE 20

Yes, it is an interesting topic also. I am glad it amused you. In the same spirit, I imagine someone organising training for vegetarians on how to haunt animals without looking them in the eyes. Hopefully, this kind of situation won't happen at all.

Let's hope it doesn't happen and we can all just live our lives...But yeah, hopefully there's some tofu and lettuce out in the wilderness for the vegans and vegetarians! Lol.

Haha..even so, I don't like any of them 😅 I am not the average vegetarian..but the whimper one lol

Oh no!

Well...I'm sure there'll be plenty of air out there...You can subsist on that.

Good choices and having shelter and a tent is crucial for this type of stuff! I opted for a tarp but that's not as easy as a tent so I wouldn't mind changing to a tent lol oh well. Good stuff here!

A tarp...interesting...a tent can be very heavy...it depends on the model. I agree to make the change haha

Wow! This has got me thinking so critically as I wouldn't want to decide wrongly and end up regretting in the wilderness. Lol
These are the three items I will take along;

  • ONE ITEM CONTAINING MY PHONE, CHARGER AND SOLAR ENERGY
I can't do without my phone as it is one of the ways to keep me fun and stay out of boredom. My phone will keep me company as I don't want to stay offline of earning platform and lose my engagement on Hive or other platforms. Also, connecting with my family would make it more fun to me.

  • SECOND ITEM CONTAINING FOOD, MATCHES AND SNACKS THAT CAN LAST FOR A WHILE
Since food is meant for survival. How can I press phone when I am hungry? Lol
Food is life and so I will take food with me and it isn't possible not to meet streams in the wilderness incase I ran out of water.

  • THE THIRD ITEM WOULD BE A BEDSPREAD, PILLOW AND PROBABLY MAT TO SLEEP
I can't sleep on the floor and so these are what I will take with me to sleep when it's time.
These are the three most important items to me and will help me survive.

Good choices here, hopefully the phone keeps working but it could turn into something to make fire with or something when the cell signals die lol

Well, I wouldn't have any choice if there is no signal over there but it would be like hell😅 how do I live without a phone engaging me online? Lol

Hahaa, Hive goes with us everywhere, so yea having the phone along is a strong point 😀 , but not sure the connection is good enough. Sure, we need to be fed as "a hungry belly has no ears" (It meant we can do nothing when hungry 😂). Having enough sleep is vital to keep us fresh and strong to continue the challenge, so I will also want to bring a tent or bedspread along.

Great choices 👍💖

Yes oo, no one can do anything without being fed first. Lol
And for the network, I hope there is free network and we can get to keep engaging ourselves on Hive and other platforms 😂

Hahaa we are Hive addicts 😂😀

I like your choice of items here, it is important to be comfortable when in the wilderness so a bedspread will come in handy for that purpose. You can also use your phone for various things, provided of course there is a cell network available. I'd imagine that in a situation like I describe there will not be though. No power means no s=cell network.

!ENGAGE 20

Hehehe! It would be hell if there isn't going to be network 😂
How do I cope? Well sleeping and eating and that would be my daily routine 😂😂
And of course, my phone would work for taking photos of my experience there.

Sleeping and eating huh? You might want to add food collection to that list.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

The pandemic outbreak we have, I would prepare myself with three elements that would help me to use them in various situations:

  • A tent; considering the season where I live, winter? It would be good to secure a good dry place to spend the night and rainy days.
  • A sharp knife; it is a basic tool, useful and easy to carry. It would be useful to cut wood or if hunger attacks us to support us in the hunt for our survival.
  • This last option is not so practical but very necessary, a lighter. I don't think I'm capable of making fire without the help of one, but fire is extremely necessary to keep me warm, to keep away any animal danger that may lurk and many other things.

With all this, I would still feel insecure, the truth is that if the time comes, I would prefer to have an agile company with a higher survival profile than mine.

😉 Almost the same as mine. Seems we ladies tend to pick a tent for a good sleep, a sharp knife to protest ourselves, last but not least the lighter is a must.
Excellent Choices 💖

We do our best hahahahaha, I admit men have a higher creativity for camping 🤣🤣.

Sleep is the best medicine sometimes! Best to sleep in a tent instead of with the creepy crawlies I would say lol

These are reasonable items but what is more reasonable is that you realise you're probably not equipped to handle the situation alone an that some more skilled assistance would be required. That's smart.

!ENGAGE 20

Refining my survival techniques to know priorities at a time like this is my next goal 🤣🤣💗 thanks for another good weekend.

You'll get there. Thinking about being a little more prepared for adversity will lead you in that direction.

This is excellent reasoning.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Those are good choices to have when you are out there! Sometimes it’s not about your comfort level when you are doing it, it’s about doing what you can as best as you can and it will eventually improve. The other thing though that you said, which is important, is company! It’s going to be perfect if you have some other people with you to share the duties, that will improve your survival drastically!

Yes, well a company would make me more secure. Although maybe giving rise to a situation like this will awaken instincts that, as you say, will help me do what is best for such a situation. Happy week 🤗🤗

Loading...

Three things, one hour. (1)My fly bag has everything I need for the next couple of days. (2)My camping bag has everything I need for medium term. If it's going to be full tilt shit I'll spend some of my hour making sure I can get 30 gallons of fuel in central Oregon on my way to Washington where I have shelter, water and access to food (poaching cows if I can't find a deer now and again) with a garden to come. There also might be a couple of serious weapons there that will make the place damned defensible. Enough solar capacity to charge everything we need every day. So make it (3) a quarter drum of fuel to get me there and cook on for months.

What ever is left in the hour would put dry grocery supplies in the car.

Great topic.

It's an interesting topic I think, as it exposes a person's weakness in this area, and most have a lot of that! People are so complacent these days. Won't happen to me. or the worse one...The government will take care of us. Victims bro,.* Anyway, I knew you'd have a level of readiness...Seems legit too. Much like my own but pretty much all of what I would need is already here...It's just my nature.

I have a post going up in a few hours with my three items...Was a but of fun to write but had to limit to 1300 words...I could write all day long on this topic.

!ENGAGE 20

Yeah the government crowd annoys me. They don't seem to understand that the whole charade is to make them dependent on them then when it suits them, require their right kidney and stem cells in order to keep participating otherwise you will be put in prison.

Those people have a name...Victims. The thing is for me is that I'm a bit of a sheepdog and have a caring, protective nature. Those people are fortunate that there's people like me who respond to the call when needed...Military, first responders and civilians who are prepared and are willing to lend a hand, even if in doing so they place themselves at risk.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Great idea and glad that it sounds like you have a zone to escape to with plenty of things for home defense! The fuel is one that many don't take into account since things might not be open or technologically possible to extract fuel from so that's a great idea. I enjoy seeing so many people with bug out bags!

Hello friend Tom I knew that you would be prepared to survive the desert, I imagined that I would have a lot of fuel to move with a legendary motorcycle
Enjoy the rest of Sunday very much and have a happy start to the week

This is so awesome @galenkp
I am very interested in this theme, I can argue a little about this, indirectly this pandemic has caught the attention of the international community,,,,

By coincidence in the past week I have been in and out of the wilderness very often, but in this case I can answer what I brought when I entered the forest.

  • Knives, (arrows) / safety guard against wild beasts
  • Macro lens (+ hanpone)
  • Food supplies

This is not just a description, but this is a fact of life in an atmosphere of this pandemic, I am forced to write a lot in order to cover my daily household budget, this can be seen from my blog ... hhhh, but this is the reality of life ...

This is brief from me, hopefully our lives can be different in the future and this pandemic will end soon ...

Three legit items right here...I focus on things that have multiple purposes where possible, you know, one thing two or more ways to use it. It's good you are thinking about it though. Well done!

!ENGAGE 20

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

The good part about the lens too is that they can be turned into a magnifying glass to light a fire so that's cool! Take awesome photos but at the same time light fires lol. Good that you have some experience in the woods, that's better than many people don't have!

Okay, lots of answers already, so with out reading any other comments;

  • Hand axe
  • File
  • A good amount of parachute string/cord

One of the most universally usable tools ever created. You can chop, you can dice, you can slice, you can hammer, you can kill, you can maim, you can save a life, (chop of gangrenous limbs). I can think of no other single tool that is more versatile than the hand axe.

The File, when digging holes with a hand axe the blade has a tendency to become dull rather quickly, and a sharp tool is always a happy tool.

When you are to tired to chase a rabbit around the bushes, it is sometime easier to make a snare trap and the cord would come in handy for that, also for tying branches together under the pines to make a nice temporary shelter and a lot of other handy uses for the strands of the cord such as a fishing line.

These are teotwawki tools I would take. End of the world, no power, no gas, EMP that blasted all electricity out of existence. Blasted back to the proverbial before stone age times.

Three legit items here mate! I mean, these three items in conjunction with a few more and you're good go to. Paracord has so many uses and one needs sharp implements, even our caveman predecessors knew that. I hope people jump onto the topic this week as it'll be really interesting to see what people's thoughts are!

!ENGAGE 20

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Good tools to get going, a car is not going to take you far on one tank of petrol, anything you take you carry making a heavy load.

Go light go far... Trying to escape people/pandemic, get lost then make a new home in a cosy cave 🙃

Immediately head for the hills. More progress in a panic situation I think would be made on foo than in a vehicle and less chance of people wanting what you have since it will not be much, be pretty invisible under a coat. Sidewalks and backyard alleys don't get jammed up by everyone trying to go the same way at the same time.

Traffic on our roads is hell already, arrive alive go on foot 😁 follow river inland, or get lost in the bush locally.

One of the best ways to survive, carry the bare minimum needed, get out with out looking like a target, you can always scavenge the other things needed later.

Main thing to be close to is water, hugging any river looking for shelter then scavenge, looking at what animals eat also an indicator of edible, catching an animal to eat... well helter-skelter 😄

Good choices here and I think the axe is probably better than a machete for that versatility reason. Can flip it around and use it as a hammer! I need to get me some paracord, I see it all over the place but never really picked some up. I think our son and I will be doing some fun stuff in the stores looking for these things in the coming weeks. Just overall good things to have on hand!

As society breaks down the beginning will be easy to survive it will be speed and flexibility on the part of the individual that will of paramount importance. Knowing through gut instinct when to stay put for a little while and then when to get up get moving and get out of someplace, and having the few things to help carry one over to the next point of safety.

Packing takes time, grabbing and going not much time at all.

Berkey Water Filter, because water is the most important survival item there is. Without water, you have about three days, without food you have weeks.

Fire starting kit. You need to be able to cook food, keep warm and keep animals away. ( You know everything in Australia is going to kill you!) This should also include a magnesium striker kit. See the picture below.

Crossbow and 550 cord so you can silently hunt and protect yourself - then I can undo the twine and search for something to use for a hook - or spear it. :))

That is just me. We have a household of 5... can we have three each? If not, you got my three and I didn't count the phone as we usually have one on us, but, I can toss that out too if needed. I don't need one to survive, but, it is nice to have.

20210417_195041.jpg

Legit items for sure and I can tell you have clearly put some thought into it...That's the main thing really, having the foresight to put a little effort into thinking about being prepared. Once down the path one will tend to keep walking.

Legit knife/pouch/!

Crossbow and paracord...Nuff said!

You're a champ!

!ENGAGE 20

Yay! I just started reading some of these! They are funny on top! :)) Thank you and if I didn't need that cord, I would have brought ammo and a gun.

Good question! Honestly. Thanks for the engage tokens!

There's been some interesting responses for sure. I had a wedding last night (early Sunday morning here now) and I haven't had a chance to scan through the secondary and tertiary comments but I'll get there after breakfast.

I wasn't sure how this topic would go but seems many have an opinion which is great.

Thanks for joining in.

The pleasure was mine.

I also picked cross bow because I wouldn't run out of ammo.

Yes, and quiet which could be a factor in certain situations.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Thank you so much @galenkp

That's some good stuff to choose. A crossbow is great! Silent and deadly plus you don't need much to keep it going well, just make sure the crank mechanism doesn't break and you have lots of use out of it. Making bolts is also probably in the cards at that point!

I'm glad that you put things into practice and got the knife and flint, that's important to get a nice fire going. Just gotta have a good flint and steel combo. I bought a cheap ass one and it might struggle to light a puddle of gasoline hahaha.

The water filter system is crucial. I think we will order one or two of those to have on hand, it's awesome that the technology for it has done a long way and made them so accessible!

Thank you. Although I have a go-bad with freeze dried food and tent etc... i chose the three things, but in one hour? I could pack for months

how are you dear friend @dswigle good day
Excellent choice, it is very true what you say, having something to filter the water is essential, keeping the body warm, and feeling safe is vital to enjoy a good camp.
I take this opportunity to wish you a happy start to the week

You too @jlufer! Thank you!

Fire starting kit sure looks neat, something I have not seen before Denise.

Crossbow a powerful tool for defense and hunting, great selection.

It was so cool to be able to find this!! Thank you!

Now that it came to this...

  • my digital photo camera, loaded of course;
  • a solar battery charger because of the above;
  • a large backpack with a belt.

I certainly plan on surviving this crap and living to tell the tale. Visuals of the exciting adventures ahead would be great to have and use when civilization happens again. That would explain the first two.

A backpack would be useful for all the goodies I find and I feel like not leaving behind. Because you can find everything else out there. You just have to look for it and/or improvise. For instance, a stick well broken shall have to do for my first hunting/defense gear.

how are you dear friend @manoldonchev good afternoon
I agree with you, I would also take those items, the camera and a solar charger can never be missing in this type of adventure, maybe I will change the backpack for a good knife, I take the opportunity to wish you a wonderful weekend

Well, of course, I plan on obtaining a good knife along the way. The remnants of the Old World are still out there do be looted.

you are very right @manoldonchev, there are many elements in which one can improvise to act as a knife. well thought
have a beautiful afternoon

Well thought out as I have come to expect from you. It's very difficult to plan for every scenario and consideration of many different aspects needs to come into play. When most go wrong is weight...Having heavy loadout is more of a liability mostly, but that depends on the situation and mode of transport, terrain and timeframe.

Nice answer.

!ENGAGE 20

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Visual story teller packed to get lost in the hills, would have delightful adventures for future generation to decipher later @manoldonchev

Good choices here! Documenting the entire thing with some fantastic photos would be one hell of a memory bank for the future generations! Keeping that charges and with some high capacity memory cards is going to be important.

Hopefully the backpack has at least a knife in it, finding the other stuff is definitely possible but a knife will go a long way!

Where I live, I'm fortunate enough to be surrounded by an abundance of fresh water and game, and I'm already really close to the wilderness. I've also been 'roughing it' in the local woods, with just me and a blade and the clothes on my back, since I was a child, so what I would take would depend largely on how long I planned on being out. If it was a mild pandemic like this one, and we just wanted to get out of town for two weeks while everyone was 'flattening the curve', I'd just take some weed, some liquor, and my guitar, and we'd go on a little vacation. I can make rudimentary shelter and fire with just my hands, and there is a lot of spring food to forage right now.

If we're talking about some deadly superflu like in 'The Stand', and we're saying goodbye to civilization forever, I would definitely want to put more thought into it. We have 'go jackets' rather than bags, that have basics for fire, first aid, fishing, trapping, and keeping warm. You seem to be counting a bag as one thing, so I'd take advantage of that. We have a rolling DeWalt tool chest filled with medical supplies for just about any occasion, so that would be one thing. We can use the car for shelter, so I wouldn't waste extra space on that. I guess if the jacket is one thing, the medical chest another, I'd probably fill a tote with as much arms, ammo, and reloading equipment as I could, and I'd fill the rest of the tote space with our garden seeds. I normally like to include some kind of entertainment with any load out, but for a long-term bug-out we'd be moving someplace with milder winters, so there should be plenty for us to scavenge along the way.

Most of this is pretty normal stuff than anyone would think of, althogh I haven't seen anyone else mention seeds. Being able to grow your own food is a pretty big deal in any long-term survival situation, and while it's possible to do that with entirely wild cultivars, having a few nutrient dense, easy to grow seeds like kale can really make the difference between surviving and thriving.

Good answer and considering it's you I expect it; That you're prepared and have put some thought into it. What I find really interesting is the very specific nature of this topic in respect of the individual, location and logistics around transportation. For me personally I could hook up my camper trailer to my Landcruiser, grab some go-bags and stuff, firearms and reloading equipment and probably live like that for a long time...Others...Well, they probably can't. It's a very personal thing but at the end of the day preparedness is something we should all be looking into simply for our general well-being and peace of mind. Bad things happen.

I think only one other person mentioned seeds, fast-growing edible things. It's a really good idea and considering they take up so little room it makes a lot of sense.

I'll be honest, I love this topic, thinking and discussing it as no matter how experienced I feel I am I always learn something and it's those of us who are open to learning that will hold the most information. I've done a few things in life, had some specific training and experience that places me in good stead in this regard, the survival aspect...Not everyone gets that chance, but it never fails to boggle my noggin when I see people have literally no plan and no clue...No care factor.

!ENGAGE 20

I really enjoyed the topic. I have spent a lot of time building a place here where I can 'bug-in' through whatever the world throws at me, and it worked great for the recent pandemic. I haven't given much thought the past few years to a concrete plan about what I would do if I was forced out of my fortress. As a guy who's pretty comfortable on foot in the woods, I've always just figured I could improvise if it came to that. This was a great mental exercise for me, and today I'm going to spend some time in the woods with more of an eye for an evade-and-ambush route out!

Thanks for the great topic, and thanks to @dandays for encouraging me to give a closer look to the engagement posts!

Nice to see you here dude! Figures you come by the only weekend I was unable to attend.

Rolling DeWalt chest, what's the matter? Don't trust made in USA powertools? 🤔

Member how I was saying I like to hang out at The Weekend and I just drop by most everyone's comment and drop sardonic type one-liners? Had I made it by the weekend over the weekend, your response would've went something like this:

Did you miss the part about 150 words or less or are you just a self centered bastard who doesn't think about anything other than his tool?

You've read my posts, I can barely say hello in 150 words or less!

Yes, I am that self centered. It all started when they told me the universe was infinite, and I realized that means that I am in fact at the center of the universe.

I'm sure I'll be back for more of these, opportunity for sardonic one-liners shall abound. I'm looking forward to it!

You've read my posts..

I've skimmed a few at best Mr Self Centered.

This.. I love it, The Weekend they just fly like this, ain't it fuckin great?!

Skimmed? SKIMMED? You shoot to wound, and lie, I suspect. Harsh tactics for a cyclist!

What's your safe word? I was born talking shit to the doctor!

You have stuff figured out...One of the enlightened ones. Thanks for joining in!

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Hi!

I see so much engagement around! This perfect!

Here comes my late response and I have to say that it was easy to make 3 clear decisions, since I am spending about 2 months annually on a wild beach, fishing, living in a tent, deep-diving and picking seafood, etc...etc...The wilderness can be an empty beach/island, a forest also.

If I went into the wild, I would take the following 3 objects with me: a well-sharpened ax, a very large roll of string and a large mirror.

I am a very practical person. I will explain why I would take these objects.

  • I would take the well-sharpened ax so I can use it to make a series of wooden knives with it, with these knives I would make wooden nails and other objects. With the ax I could cut some old trees, from which I could make a house and a roof. I would benefit of this ax for many uses.

  • I would take a big roll of rope/string to tie anything. From the large rope I could untie smaller parts, to make a fishing rod out of a branch, with thread and a small stone instead of lead. I've done this before. I fished by hand, without a branch. In any case, the knife I had done with the ax will help me cut and clean the fish at this point. The rope dries with moisture, so I would use it only for the guarded places, more often, for the construction of the house.

  • The large mirror is useful for me to light the fire at any time, using the sun as the main source and dry leaves, for example. But the mirror can also help me send signals to planes, drones, boats or even to be spotted by satellites, as I saw in a movie.
I want it as large as possible because I am minimizing the risk of breaking and not being useful anymore. If I'd pick a small one and it would break that would be tragical :) So if a larger one breaks I can still use the smaller parts.

Thank you all for reading this and for an excellent weekend topic, @galenkp!
img_3545.jpg

Hello wild beach, fishing, living in a tent, deep-diving and picking seafood girl! Good to see you chime in here with a topic you inspired! 😉

I can tell you're legit by the items you chose. Axe, rope and mirror. Well thought out and incredibly useful! This topic fascinates me and I spend a lot of my time working on it, building skills and equipment and I find nowadays I'm working more on making each item multi-purpose which limits what I need. I like the use the smaller parts of a larger mirror part. Glass is very handy for cutting right? Good call on that.

I like your answer and thanks for the picture...That looks like a legit place!

!ENGAGE 20

After reading your comment and the other comments I have received in this engagement challenge today, I feel so happy. I even suggested that if we meet in the wilderness I could cook for all of you!

I don't usually participate in challenges here but these weekly ones that you set for us are FUN and exciting and they bring so many interesting people with brilliant ideas.
I realized that I could use the axe to craft hatchets from a comment I have received today.

It's all the interaction that I love and you really challenge us to think about peak/hubris situations :))

I love it!

Thank you for what you do!

I don't see the #weekend-engagement topic as a challenge per se, just a place for people to connect, have some fun and build new relationships. That's why I only offer a token amount of hive and don't call those that receive it winners. Everyone who engages is a winner.

I'm glad you come and play, it's clear you think things through and always provide a lot of value. Thank you.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Good afternoon @galenkp!

  • I would bring all my medicine because I survived my life since childhood up to now by prescription and maintenance given by my doctor.

  • I will secure a knife. It could help me by all means along my way. To cut some tress and get some edible in the wilderness.

  • The Bible to keep me reading the word of God to give me strength in the midst of the great tribulation.

Thank you.

A well thought out plan I think...Medicine is important to keep one healthy.

!ENGAGE 20

Thank younfir the tip.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Can't be moved...
I am not taking anything. Because I am not going anywhere. Others will run away so I will be far away from the people already. And in such rush they will leave plenty of food and other things behind. So instead of going to the wilderness I will become ruler of ghost town.

a knife - for food and protection
a radio - to get news about pandemic
a tent - seeing stars and moon is nice. But I would rather not sleep in rain or snow

I am not taking anything.

Fair call.

Haha! Interesting take on the question.

thank you. I just thought about this just now but I wonder: How many bitcoins I could mine while everyone else would be hiding in the wilderness? 😜
and would they still be worth anything after others would come back?

I'll tell you what, I'd just hate to have to defend this place if times got really tough. I mean there's enough people around here that the stray angry bullet could be a factor.

I'd guess if I could make it uncomfortable enough people would leave me alone.

I mean there's enough people around here that the stray angry bullet could be a factor.

Introvert part of me is glad that live in Lithuania. Population of featherless biped here is not too big.

If you need a defense line, a good few planks shallowly buried with 6inch screws protruding at different angles around your perimeter! There are also battery operated alarms that you can string up knee height to fishing cord, when tripped they will alert you to and probably give any intruder a big enough fright that they might choose to go somewhere else first.

I've been thinking about this kind of thing for a long time, I lived in a pretty tough neighborhood for a while.

Haha nice now that's a turn I didn't expect someone would take.

thank you. I think that this way odds of my survival would be much higher.

Hello @galenkp good afternoon Excellent theme that you have chosen, appropriate for the times in which we live.
In this type of situation you have to be as cool as possible when making decisions. Having an hour helps to think coldly.
A first aid kit could not be missing in this opportunity, you always have to be careful, health first.

an element to filter water, we can go without food, but never without water, the water filtering is essential to avoid getting sick

an element to make fire, very necessary to maintain body temperature

As always, this week's theme is excellent. I take this opportunity to wish you a splendid weekend

Three very logical items and I'd say they should be in everyone's mind when considering this situation. Thanks for joining in.

!ENGAGE 20

I really like what you do motivating the interaction of people @galenkp, it is a pleasure to accompany you.
enjoy a beautiful night

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Hello dear @jlufer. Great list items here. Sure these items aid kit, filter water, and something to make fire (lighter maybe) are definitely important tools for survival while on a hike or camp. 💖

hello dear friend @trangbaby good day
These three things go unnoticed in routine life, however in an extreme situation of survival, they are the elements that can save your life.
Thank you very much for this pleasant visit. enjoy a beautiful Sunday walk

Good choices here, fire water and first aid are the basics to be able to survive! We can do other things but these are essential to keeping us in good shape I think.

how are you dear friend @cmplxty good day
one would like to have more comforts, however in this situation, having those only three things can save your life.
I really appreciate your comment
I take this opportunity to wish you a happy start to the week. enjoy it a lot

This is a tough one! I'm leaving the Beatles album, sadly. Maybe my comic books as well...good bye Peach Momokos, I will miss you.

I guess I'd go with a) graphite fire starter, b) knife, and c) my phone. I can't start a fire, boy scout style, to save my life, so I'd need fire. A knife makes sense because it's pretty handy for foraging and what not. And of course, my phone so that I could document photos for monomad, hive photography, and the night sky (just kidding). I'd hope to be able to get ahold of people at least...keep up with my family and friends.

Great question; I'm a western civ guy, and I'm not prepared at all! I should do some research on preparedness now. And figure out what I'm going to do with my Beatle records, too.

A couple of good items although in the situation I describe I'm not sure a phone will be of much use. Still, if powered and there's a cell network you could google survival I suppose.

I'm a western civ guy, and I'm not prepared at all! I should do some research on preparedness now.

Preparedness is paramount mate...Think about Hattie having an accident with me first aid kit close by or the ability to use it. Think about a fire in the house with no evacuation plan, extinguisher or fire blanket. Think about a vehicle accident and your inability to exit the car - A situation a $20 ResQMe seat belt cutter/glass breaker can solve. Think about you in the mall with a rogue shooter and no idea where the emergency exits were, or how to create a smoke screen to conceal your exit (Pop a dry powder fire extinguisher is the way). A little situational awareness goes a long way. Can't happen? Won't? Tell that that to all those who it has happened to.

Preparedness isn't spider holes and 3500 lbs of rise stored in the garage...It breaks down to very small things that can help mitigate the adverse effects of every day life.

Just think about it, do some googling and make some adjustments. You may someday come to be very thankful you did.

P.s. Leave the Beatles records mate, There's more important things...Your Taylor Swift collection for instance!

!ENGAGE 20

yeah I agree; if you don't get in the mindset or get the discipline, you forget about this sort of thing as the routine of daily life wears you down. I'll will make it a point to start digging a bit more on this - thanks!

Ugh, don't even mention Taylor Swift. First it was her news and the Beatles, then Doge went nutzo - I don't even know this world anymore :(

Lol re: Tay tay comment.

Hey quick side question...you said this was a good one to get for the Lego sets, right?

https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/4x4-x-treme-off-roader-42099

I saw some negative reviews but I thought you had recommended it to us earlier in the month - thx!

I have only one word in response to this question:

Get on it bro, it's a good set.

Ok, maybe more than one word. Lol.

I built it and enjoyed it.

Sweet, thanks! On it!

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

This is a really cool topic here man! I love thinking about this type of stuff because it’s going to come to this one of these days, with how crazy powerful people are creating shit in labs for no logical reason.

Let’s see..

  • first item would be the duffel bag that’s got all our extra clothes that I keep in the car, plus some small essentials. This one is key because up here it can drop into cold temperatures quickly (such as today, we got 3 inches of snow in the middle of April lol wtf). This one will be inclusive of a basic multi-tool that I like to keep in it for this very reason. I would probably throw a tarp in there and my gun with the one box of bullets that I own. Both would be crucial! The duffel bag kind of seems like it’s cheating because it can hold so much but I’ve got one in real life for this specific reason lol. Siena has looked at me a time or two like I’m weird but she definitely enjoyed having it a couple times recently when we were out and I had plenty of extra stuff for us in it when we needed it! 🤣
  • our fishing pole that our son and I shared often last summer. This one is important because we need to find a water source anyways so when we locate one it will be key to have a way to catch some fish, even if Siena hates fish she will have to suck it up lol.
  • my machete. I bought this randomly a long time ago but having a machete is incredibly important when in a survival situation. The multi tool is definitely helpful and good to have but the machete makes building shelters, traps and that type of stuff incredibly easy and efficient. This will save time and precious energy.

Three legit items mate, and great reasons why too. It's a pretty interesting I htink and one so many people haven't really thought about...I guess maybe because most feel safe and secure in our modern society. Some know though, that safe and secure doesn't really exist without some effort, and so they apply it.

Good items and good reasons.

!ENGAGE 20

Yeah I know some people that don't think about it. One of my friends is in the military and he's not prepared for shit! It baffles me. Some other people are just too comfortable with their work-eat-drink beer-sleep routine that they don't do anything outside of that. Shame really.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

It was a wise decision, dear friend @ cmplx you, you have chosen three very useful elements for a situation like this, the machete could not be missing in something like this, its use is much more than cutting.
have a beautiful Sunday and a happy start to the week

Grab a book.... Learn basic survival skills in the bush, living off the land many varieties of flora exist with a host of uses here in Africa depending on region.

Knowledge conquers all, knowing which plants to eat, medicinal use from tree bark, to leaves or roots. You will find toothpaste, soaps from sap so no excuse on the hygiene front. There are plants to combat snake bites as well....

Elephant dung which is undigested makes great fire for cooking on without creating possibility of runaway fires in the bush, got a headache breath dung smoke in, knowing me I would smoke it. Plaiting grass into snares to catch meaty treats or make a spear from sturdy branch, give the animals a fair run for the hide.

Yup in the bush we can fend for ourselves, or learn how to. Any emergency situation humans could take your possessions, who knows how long you have to remain outdoors #survivestayalive 😉

Overhang/cave would make a good place for sheltering in, large leaves strategically placed to capture morning dew into clay pot (which you would have to make), hollow out an African Squash (Calabash) for drinking bottle (eat the flesh, plant the seed for future), or as @papilloncharity said steal an ostrich egg, use the egg (approximately 30 domestic hens egg in size), rinse and use make a plug with some grass.

Modern featured elements to make life a little easier if you really stuck would be a sizeable panga and lighter to get you started and that book of knowledge! .... OK all said tongue in cheek!

Awesome dear @joanstewart 💖 It's totally worth reading every sing word. I've gained great knowledge and essential survival skills from you. So much more to learn. Thanks for sharing. 💝

All depends on where you live, people here do know a lot about living off the land, a knowledge handed down through the ages we have forgotten.

So if I cook my steak over elephant dung, will that give it a rich smokey shit flavor..?

Juss' Sayin'...

 It is shit...

untitled.gif

Nicely smoked, super tasty to use as fuel 😂.... you not eating it!

It sounds like a solid book like that would make a world of difference in those scenarios! Make some other random things so people try to steal those but keep the real treasure, the book on how to do it all.

Smoking dung huh? That sounds like a crazy experience lol but then again they make psylicibin (magic mushrooms) from mushrooms that grow off cow poop so it's not that bad lol

Only one book on what is edible to reference back to if needed.

Living off the land could have some unique experiences, sure we could make it though....

Another way to be prepared is to think negatively.

So. It just looks like I'm wasting time to get my answer just where I want it, but you actually chased me down another rabbit hole (from my past a ways) with your musical selection.

First one here shares the background with your selection. The second one is with Carlos Santana 10 years ago. Carlos is as old as I am, just for the record. I think your video is shot at Salton Sea, California. I don't think Paradise Valley Estates is what that sign actually says...

Rabbit holes huh? They can be both enjoyable and frustrating. That's a great track is it not?

I got yer rabbit hole...

Heheheh. Juss yankin yer chain G-Dog. Soooo effin tired here. 4 am (er) till 3 pm (er). 8:31pm now and fighting droopy eye syndrome...

Gonna have to crawl in a hole here and sleep on this one. Regroup and reload in the AM. Night my Brother from Down Under.!!
untitled.gif

I love that gif. Ah the memories...

Get some sleep mate...I'll catch you after when you're feeling human.

That's a crazy looking scenario but one hell of a gif. Curious but why is it one bullet loaded at a time? Or is that for show or something. It seems odd lol

The one bullet at a time thing is situational. For example, if I am competing I use the magazine so I can simply work the bolt and load a new round. Magazines empty though and so I generally have a couple rounds in a round-holder stick right next to the ejection port which gives me a couple extra rounds I can single-feed into the rifle if I need an extra shot or two to complete a stage as it can be a little quicker to do than remove and reload a new magazine. In the field it's unlikely that would happen in any situation except the most dire. Also, magazines fail at times and one will simply single feed from there to keep up one's operational tempo. There's other reasons though.

The rabbit holes are crazy sometimes lol

"In the comments below reveal three of the items you gather and explain your answer"...

Easy peasy.

It's amazing to hear that so many people already have their apocalyptic packs ready to go! LET'S SEE SOME PICTURES OF YOUR DOOMSDAY PACKS!!!

Yeah, I'd like to see some photos of peoples kit and loadout. I will probably do a flat-lay of my go-bag at some stage...It should look fairly impressive.

I don’t have one but my work backpack would be pretty good. Twine, a small flashlight, a whole shitload of tools, I’m sure I’ve got some other good shit hidden down at the bottom where I don’t see. Not exactly a to-go bag but it would suit me well in this situation.

I wanna see all these intentional to go bags of all of yours! I would love that hahaha

That would be a cool post to do in the Pew community, since it's related to being in the mindset of equipment. I think I'll do that!

Get it done mate! For sure.

I'll get it done sometime. I did a flay-lay of my culling bag not so long ago...Seemed to go well but there's nowhere near as much gear in it...The go-bag would look more impressive. I'll get there one day.
