Who the hell am I and what do I think...I know...Who cares right? We're all wrapped up in our own lives so how much time can we spend wondering what makes other people tick?!
But here's the thing, I often wonder about others; People watching is one of my favourite hobbies, as is making stories up about those people. I wonder about you guys too. I actually wrote a bit of a post about it right here. I figured it might be cool for me to open up a little...You know, share some secrets...
So who the hell is G-dog and what is he all about?

First I'd like to thank this weeks sponsors for donating hive to give away to you for simply asking me a question. @tarazkp, @bigtom13, @meesterboom, @stevenwood and myself @galenkp. Thanks to those three champions of hive who help me out each week!
This weeks topic
1. Ask me anything at all (yep, anything)
2. Tell us something about yourself (totally optional)
Here's your opportunity to ask me, the G-dog, absolutely anything. Literally anything you want and nothing is off the table; I'll answer as best I can.
Also, (if you want to) you can offer something about yourself as well. Maybe a funny or interesting fact about yourself so we can get to know you a little better. If you don't have anything just make something up, we'll never know so it's all good!
Drop your questions below in the comments, and your self-fact, and I'll get to them over the weekend. I don't care what you ask, I'll answer to the best of my ability...I'll probably even have an answer for G-dog, what's the meaning of life! (But don't ask for my hive keys ok?)
This is all about engagement so engage with others; They won't mind, I promise!
I will select some and send hive directly to the users wallet on Monday. Make sure you have your questions in by the end of Sunday night. Feel free to share this post around to those who may benefit from some free hive sent to their wallet.
Also, don't forget to drop your weekend-related posts into the Engage the weekend Community - A community dedicated to the weekend!
Thanks y'all, and I look forward to seeing your questions and self-facts as they come through. Get engaged team...
Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default - Tomorrow isn't promised.
Be well

Hello hello! I must admit that I love asking questions hahahaha I'm a very curious person! So this topic is awesome!
Soo, my question is: what would you do if you win the lottery?
Oh yeah, this is a tasty one! OK...
So I'm going to assume you mean a decent sum...Let's say 5 million Australian dollars ok?
First off I would hook up my camper trailer and take off to some remote place to have a think. Then come back and pay off my debt, my mortgage which isn't too much actually. I'd give my brothers and sister a decent sum, enough to pay off their houses plus a little extra, and make their lives a little easier now and for their children.
I'd then spend a year travelling Australia, I mean just getting off the grid camping and seeing all the places this big land has to offer. It would give me time to think things through, to put a gap between my working life and the rest of my life because I would never work again.
Assuming I used $1 million doing the above that would leave $4 million...That's $160,000 per year over 25 years without it earning any interest...At 50 years old it's enough for me to do whatever I would like and so I'd travel the world, learning about history, people and the places I've always wanted to learn about. I'd read a lot more, and engage with the people who helped to feed my desire for knowledge. I'd also help others grow and develop for themselves, mentor, which I do now anyway.
I'd not be into growing the money really. I have no children and my niece and nephew get everything when I'm gone. I'm a simple man and Faith is the same...We value experiences and money like this would give us the ability to engage in them. So I'd invest it and live of it and the investment return then give what's left to my family when I'm gone.
This may all sound about self-oriented, but I've had adversity in my life, so has Faith, and due to our ages well...I'd rather live a little. Helping my family out a bit would be my charitable work and would make me feel good because I know they deserve it. Helping my family is what I'm all about, and of course, living my best life and engaging with what's important to Faith and I.
Oh, I'd also make sure to have some kick-ass hive-people meet-ups wherever I went around the world! :)
And how about you? What would you do?
!ENGAGE 25
Wow I really loved your answer as I share it a lot with you!! I must say that I've dreamed about winning the lotto hahahaha. I am currently not working as I am 57 years old and I retired from work. So the first thing I would do is move to Aruba, I love that island and I love the beach! That is actually my plan to spend my golden years hahaha! I'll buy a house huge enough to live with my family so that they can enjoy the magic of Aruba! I'll also pay my youngest daughter's tuition for med school in the US as I think that is one of the best countries to study medicine! I'll also give a good sum of money to my daugthers and family so that they don't have to worry about money never again!!! I am also a shopaholic so I must be honest with you and say that I would buy clothes and so for sure hahahaha. Another thing I'll do, before I leave to Aruba or while I am there, is to donate a good amount of money to venezuelan charities that fight hunger, especially of children's and also to the children's hospital of Caracas (JM de los Ríos) as my daughter and I have visited there and it's no secret that there is a huge shortage of medical supplies and medicines! Maybe that way I could make my country a better place!
Best regards!!
This all sounds like a perfectly good use of hypothetical lottery winnings and it would surely make for an excellent life.
You mention charities...Here, mostly only 10 cents in every donated dollar reaches the people who need it and so I'm not inclined to donate to charities that use the funds to but Mercedes Benz for the CEO and BMW's for the managers. Having said that, I'm a pretty solid supporter of businesses and initiatives that support returned military veterans, a group that my government don't support very well. There's many ways to be charitable.
Wow that's awful, well I know what you are talking about, I live in a very corrupted country it really makes me super mad! The worst thing is that they take the money shamelessly it's outrageous!
Oh yes, I have read about the veterans, they are not supported and that it's horrible, they are left out after fighting for the country... We must find the right charities to support, that's right!!
That's the key, finding the right charities, or businesses to support, to ensure the funds get to where they are needed.
We have always said if we had things to spare we would help others, and we do the good will and offer material things to friends. Even the cardboard sign holding beggars on the corner want only money.
Galen nails it here with the charities. They would have to have a 99% pass thru before I would give cash. That just does not happen. :-/
Posted using Dapplr
People can be charitable in other ways. That's what we do, rather than fund Mercedes Benz's for the CEO.
There's so much good work that could be done and yet so many charities make a mockery of people. Shameful.
That sounds like a good way of using lottery money. But, you said you have no children! So, you were kidding about a previous question, the kid on your shoulder?
That's @smallsteps, my niece...@tarazkp's daughter. The live in Finland, I live in Australia but was in Finland on holiday. I miss her.
Oh, I see. Thanks. My father had told me about tarazkp and his daughter. He said it was a fun account/journal-like. I'll check it out.
PS. I did. pity "she" has not posted anything since march. It reads so funny 🤣 🤣. I guess the closing of steemit was too traumatic. It's a good thing that al those posts remain. My father (@hlezama) told me about it and when he made sure that things would actually be better here he persuaded me to start hiving.
Oh I didn't know hlezama was your dad...He seems like a nice chap and I like him a lot. He interacts with me from time to time.
Thanks. He told me about your blog, how fun and crazy it was

tokens.Like the Gdog I would assume a certain amount. That would be frightfully near his amount, and I'd give away the rest. I don't want to be bothered :)
Then? I'd ride a fine motorcycle a lot of places. Early on would be a ride around Australia, a ride I've been planning for 50 years. I believe I'd have a place here in the desert and one in a cooler summer place. I've got a large list of places I'd like to see.
I'd also buy dinner for Hivers wherever I might happen to be...
You know ive thought about what i would do f i won the lotto. Id do much similar to what you would. However one fantasy keeps coming up when i think about it. Urban beautification. I have this dream i like to call Project Eden where i work with the council to do urban beautification projects. Nice planters on the boardwalks and parks. Have them sponsored. Get local mastery nurseries yo donate plants in exchange for public plaques in the planter pieces giving them acknowledgement and a little bit of advertising. If people saw a flower they like while on holiday walking along a promenade they could read the tag and order one from the nursery that provided it and have one at their home.
Once upon a time i had a dream of moving to mackay. Project Eden would gave been my attempts to transform the town into one of the most beautiful in Australia. A garden city.
Another thing i would like to do is build a nice city park. One thats beautiful but functional. I am a huge proponent of urban parks and recreational spaces. I think it brings together the community and i think it fosters mental health and well being.
Whether or not i could implement or achieve the above one thing i would out above all would be a playground for the children. This is something very near and dear to my heart. I spent a few years helping to raise a beautiful little boy acting as his father. I spent many days in the park and playground with him. And i daydreamed about what i could do to make the playground better for him and all the kids. If i gad the money. The first thing i would do is commission a truly marvelous kicknass childrens wonderland of a playground.
Im a simple man. I have never had much and thus i have very little need for consumer products. Leaving a legacy to the people woul be much more fulfilling of my life and make me feel like i succeeded.
Your plans on how to spend the money seem to me to be super conscious. Green areas are important, we are all part of nature, I love flowers, that garden city would be my favorite. I take your idea and apply it in my city Caracas, the capital of Venezuela.
Children are the future of the planet, we must make them happy... To be simple is the most beautiful of a human being. Virtual Greetings :)
Woo!!! I love motorcycle rides, feeling the veinto in my face, I find it incredible. As I asked the question, I accept the dinner, it can be here in Venezeula, ups no better Australia so I know it. ;)
Now all we need is a little luck and I'd be happy to ride and dine with you!
Lets assume its for 1 million USD. I probably wouldn't change much about my life. I think I would have been gifting piece of mind. That's all I really want in life. Lol
What beautiful feelings. Greetings
Oh, let's see - What was your first passion or something that you enjoyed doing long time ago but that you haven't done in a while?
As for me, something that probably very few guys notice and know about is that I have a twin sister :D
Twin evil sisters! Lol...Just kidding, she's probably not as evil as you.
Ok, so this is a bit of a harder one for me...First passion...So Faith, my wife, was my first real passion as we met so young, 33 years ago, she was almost 16 and I was 17 and a half. We've been together ever since and whilst we've had some really hard times we've remained in love and strong as a couple. (Everyone has hard times, life is like that).
So, we enjoyed the simplicity of our lives as late teens, early to mid twenties etc. But things get complicated sometimes, the world and society changes, we change and pressure mounts...We still have a good life, but it's far from the simple life of our early days...
That's what I'd like to get back to and do more...A simple life.
This probably all sounds pretty silly to you, but as a 50 year old I yearn for those moments we shared where we seemingly had no cares in the world except each other. This is why we spend as much time as we can living experiences together now...You know?
Good question though.
And you? I know you're quite young, but is there something you were/are passionate about but haven't engaged with lately?
!ENGAGE 25
Haha, we both have our evil moments of glory lol
As for your answer, that's a smart one! I haven't seen this coming but actually think about maybe what the career you dreamed about is, or something like that, my bad!
But I have to agree with you, I think there is nothing purer than falling in love with someone when you are young and evolve and get through all the phases of life together. Seeing each other grow up and face different thresholds of life is really a cool thing. In this way, you will have no doubts about your pick and the person you have next to you every morning.
If I have to answer technical then I would say drawing. I really loved doing this since I was just 4 years old and had a great evolution pretty fast but unfortunately had to give up on this since the artists don't really have any chance in my country, and this is the reason why I was also not supported by any members of my family.
But if I have to reply to the same subject you opened up the discussion, then I completely feel you. Don't know how young I look like (my birthday was on Tuesday so I feel kind of older now, lol), but I have a similar experience. Actually it started as one of the purest and more amazing friendships I never dreamed about since I was only 14 years old and we already have almost 2 years since we declared our feelings and realized we can take this to the next level.
Just as I said, it's really amazing to see each another grow up and get through different phases of life, from the simple life away from any worries to the one where things are getting harder and more challenges appear :)
Always wanted to be a fireman...I like helping people. It never happened though, life just got in the way I guess, I went in other directions.
Happy birthday for Tuesday...Don't worry, you're not old...When you catch up to me you will be though. :)
My dad was a great artist, made a living from it. It is hard though. The thing is that you can draw anytime, for yourself. I think you should because if you feel passionate about it then you clearly get some reward, maybe not financial, but emotional. That's worth doing.
Well done on your relationship also...Strong relationships are hard to develop these days, so fight for it if you have to.
Thanks for the birthday wishes, wise words and great advices! They were well needed :)
I'm not a big fan of birthdays, my own I mean, as I don't like being the centre of attention but other people's...If cake is involved, I'm all in. :)
Same here. That's why I always hold my birthday in nature with some friends and family, exploring the surroundings and sleeping in the tents :D
Most likely a happy day when we all gather together rather than a birthday lol

tokens.I knew that! I've seen photos and videos of Gabriela and her sister AND BOTH WERE WEARING SHOES.
@Galenkp: At the risk of being too subtle for you, ask her about the shoes. I know the answer...
Haha, what an uncommon thing to see both of us wearing boots, right? lol
I miss fly fishing. It had to go for a physical reason. I would fish whenever I could all over the Pacific Northwest. I tied my own bugs when I wasn't fishing I was thinking about fishing. I see a picture of a river today and imagine how I would attack that water. There are a couple of places that are tied to my fishing that I need to see again before I die. They are so much a part of who I am....
Sounds like a cool thing. I can feel the nostalgia already!
I miss it, I really do. I often chose the fishing over riding a motorcycle. In fact, for many of those years I only had a dirt motorcycle that I could fully enjoy in short gulps. A few stolen hours here and there. I fished and hiked and camped and saw bits of the world that most never see.
Riding a bike is one of my biggest dreams. I need that kind of freedom and adrenaline so badly in my life!
In all honesty, it's the best. The freedom is just unimaginable and there is a no doubt adrenaline drip effect. Continuous higher awareness of your surroundings and conditions. You can SMELL the world around you!
It's completely do able. I recommend a beginners riding course highly. They will give you enough skills to stay alive until you really learn to ride.
There is a 'danger' aspect that a rider has to deal with. Not forget, and not discard, but learn to dance with. It's probably the thing that stops most people and it is clearly a factor in the end of a riding career. But it's so rewarding!
Definitely. I would never jump over before having some courses first :) Thanks for the advice!
I ride and there's nothing quite like it...An amazing feeling of freedom.
Hopefully I'll be able to feel the experience too anytime soon :D
I've never tried this...But then again fishing isn't really my thing...I can do it, but have a great knack for the reel ending up looking like a birds nest of fishing line. :)
I too miss fishing. My best friend and i were avid fishermen. We did the creeks and rivers of central California. The ocean for sea bass yellowtail and bluefin. Wed spend three days at a time fishing. I miss it. I gad planned to try fishing fir barramundi in australia but that never materialized. Was going to teach the little boy how to do it. We'd spend time at the local creek with ling branches pretending they were fishing polls and we'd catch imaginary fish.
I was so into it I'd go to a local park and practice with a piece of yarn tied on instead of a hook so I could track the trajectory. So, yeah, I get imaginary fishing...
The best part was making up imaginary fish names together. Little boys come up with the best names for things.
I used to play baseball all the time. I have picked up a ball and give in almost three years. The last time I played was at a company "bonding" event.
Nice! I used to play ping pong when i was like 4 years old and did it for s few years. Made me want to get back to this sport as well!
I have not played basket ball or football (soccer) in over a year now. Used to like that a lot.
How good or bad is it to have a twin sister. I have one, 5 years younger, but we were very close, we also fought a lot. Have not seen her for a year now, except on video calls.
Oh yeah, basketball too! Used to do it a lot during my college and I was becoming really good at it because I was enjoying the sport, but it's been a while since I played basketball.
I can't imagine not seeing my sister for a year, we actually live together but regarding to how good or bad is it to have a twin..I'd call it a special relationship.
Of course there are always good and bad parts but having a twin is a little bit more complicated since the arguments are a little bit more intense than between any other siblings. But our connection is really special. When we were very young we had some strange moments when we could feel the pain of each other or when one of us was suffering even if we were in different rooms. For a few times when one of us was getting injured, the other one was receiving the bruise. Pretty weird, I know.
But that's the proof of how connected we are and that we have something special which is only ours and maybe just the ones who understand it :)
G-dog do ever consider living in another part of Australia away from the Adelaide area?
Great question! You offering me a corner at your place? Lol.
Yeah, well I lived for a time in Brisbane, Queensland (too busy) and in Cairns for a time also. (Loved that, but far too humid!)
I think I'd like to live about 20 minutes out of Hobart in Tasmania. Close enough to the small city but far enough to not feel like I'm in it...Countryside and nature all around. Also, I like the region on the New South Wales south coast, sort of Bega to Woolongong (probably actually as far up as Nowra) and a little inland. Lush and fertile and around there.
I'm not a massive fan of the heat so somewhere that doesn't get as hot as South Australia would be good...But I'm a, SA lad at heart and am not sure if I would ever move. Who knows though right?
There's loads of places I'd love to be though....It's a long list.
And you? I know you've just relocated to QLD from TAS...Dream move or would you go elsewhere?
!ENGAGE 25
Actually I wasn't going to relocate to Queensland well not yet as I was going to travel all over Australia for some time maybe a couple of years. So far this virus crap has me kinda stuck here for now. As you know my house just sold a week ago and have some dollars sitting in the bank and using this time to check out potential places to live once the travel is done that's if it really even gets started🤣.
Yes I was thinking I may settle back down in Queensland somewhere sometime and if a suitable place presents it self I will buy it. I had been thinking of South Australia or even South Western Australia as other options to look into when traveling about.
If I get a decent sized block of land you are most welcome to visit and setup camp.
2020 has done some ass kicking huh? Yours, mine and so many others...It'll pass though and your meanderings will be able to begin. I like S.A. Fewer people and some really legit places to hunt, off-road and camp and decent weather for most of the year. It is hot in Summer, but besides a couple months it's really pretty decent.
I'm sure you'll get your travelling done and find somewhere cool to settle down. I'd be happy to drag my caper trailer over, sit around the fire and tell lies with you!
Yes I am sure this craziness will pass soon🤔 I am not adverse to settling back down in Tasmania either. Sure hope we can do that sometime in the future, relax around a beautiful fire and chat the night away👍
It'll happen and happy days shall return. For now, stay connected, ask those around if they are ok and look after yourself...That's all we can do.
Yes indeed 👍
When I went to Australia I noticed it was just as expensive as the U.S. Is there a place that is budget friendly that has a decent quality of life? Similar to the Southern, or Midwestern, states in America(Or anywhere but San Francisco, New York,& D,C. ).
Adelaide is the most affordable city I think. Good climate although it can get very hot in summer, like 47C (116F). It's a smaller city, some 1.2m as opposed to the 4m in Melbourne and Sydney but it has everything a person needs. Great locations around the State and some amazing beaches. Here's a couple near me.
Stuff like this is 2.5 hours away...
It's a very cosmopolitan lifestyle and we have two famous wine regions...Barossa and McLaren Vale. Loads of places to eat out, plenty of parks around, and a choice of suburbs to suit any budget.
I was born here, so I'm biased though. :)
Wow! This looks beautiful. I might have to check this place out. Thanks for the recommendation.
South Australia is a good spot.
Australia is beautiful indeed
It surely is...The best country in the world.
ENGAGE
tokens.I'm pretty sure I could find a place or two in Australia that would suit me well. Seems I've read that you have some serious big spaces there, I love them. Desert in the winter and cooler in the summer and I'd be a happy man.
With squirrels. My Sam loves squirrels. He chases them relentlessly and even catches one once in a while. Rabbits are an acceptable substitute for him...
Is Sam your dog? If so, what kind?
This is Sam. He's half Rhodesian Ridgeback and half something. Best dog in Yuma County.
Cute little bugger. 🙂
Hi G-dog how are you? ... that's my question... hahaha jk. The real one is that if you coul time travel would you go to the past or to the future?
I am a big fan movies, and the ones that involve time traveling take me to cloud 9, and don't get me strarted about interestellar, arrival, about time (my daugther's favorite hahaah) and the one and only back to the future!
Lol...Good is my answer to this. :)
Great real question: Would I go forward or back in time?
I'd have to say backward as I love history, passionately. I have a desire to know about stuff that happened, the reasons. It fascinates me.
I'd want to go back in time to see momentous things happen, the ice age, the end of the dinosaurs,, the big bang, the great and might people who shaped our world as we know it today and the events that shaped it but also see everyday people, learned how they lived, who they were and where they went.
I'm fascinated by old buildings, ruins, and I'd like to know who build them, who lived there, what happened to them...Not just the pyramids and great castles, but the little cottage in the woods...There's a story behind everything and I want to know it.
So...Back in time, not forward.
Great question and one I could write thousands of words about.
!ENGAGE 25
ENGAGE
tokens.I'd go back, no question. If I just had to pick a time it'd be 1760 something in what is now the US. That time was pivotal in the course of the world and I'd like to see what REALLY happened. Where did the concept of democracy even come from? Did those dreamers really think it might work? How did they convince the ordinary people?
I think it would be nice to see the country in a reasonably unspoiled state too...Less people, more natural.
Id go back in time to see ancient greece snd rome. But I'd also want to go forward. Be one of those guys from the past that find themselves on board the uss enterprise traveling the stars and experiencing utopia
Dave McFly.
I just want McFly's guitar amp and speakers. That woulda been wicked
Ah yeah, I remember that scene.
I'd go to the future. If we want to see the past, just read books. The future is a huge unknown.
I love "About Time"! Don't judge me man.
Let me hitch a ride with ya'll back to KICK SOME ASS... LoL
If you are curious to know why, I posted about it during the week 7 engagement. You can see it here if you like..?

Is that kid on your shoulders @smallsteps? :)
I'm surprised no one asked that before now.
Yes it is...I miss her a lot. She's grown since this photo, but is still a little cutie.
!ENGAGE 25
She is really cute. I guess my question would go along the lines of your answer. WHy is it that you miss her. She is not living with you? Why?
About me: I am from Venezuela, but live now in Brazil with an aunt, trying to get ready to take a college examination to study medicine, but I suck and physics and chemistry, especially when they are taught in another language.
The child in this photo with me is my niece. She lives in Finland with her parents, my brother @tarazkp and @momone so as much as I would like my nice to come and live with me I think her parents wouldn't be too happy about it just yet.
I miss her because I don't have any children of my own and so my niece and nephew take the place of the fact I don't have my own. I would like for my niece to someday come down and spend some time in Australia with my wife and I but I don't know if that will ever happen.
I wish you all the best with your studies and hope you manage to pass the entry examinations for university.
Thank you very much. It's been crazy so far. A new language, deficient training in Venezuela (even if you come from a private High School) and emotional storms every day.
About your niece, hope you can meet soon, either in Australia or in Finland. Is it complicated for you to go to Finland? Places like Findland are exotic for latinos. So far, beautiful, so legendary, so cold.😗
It's not complicated to go to Finland from Australia. We were due to go again in July but the virus stopped that. We will go when we are able to travel. It's costly though, and takes a long time to get there (28 hour transit) so we have to go for an extended period to make it worthwhile.
Life is getting more complicated for people, more costly. It's geared around people never really getting ahead. I wish you all the best with it and I hope you can rise above the mediocre level of existence governments and corporations want us to attain.
Thank you very much for your good wishes and advice.
Hope you can make it to Finland soon.
ENGAGE
tokens. If you could go anywhere where would that be? And I mean anywhere, not just limited to the planet/solar system/etc if that would prevent an answer to this.
This is a very difficult question for me because everywhere is my preferred answer although I'll give you one place.
I'd go to Norway. It's just so different to anything I'm used to here in Australia and I'd love to go there, spend a while there, maybe a few years so I cold see it in every season and travel around and look enjoy all the different aspects of it. Of course, I'd need a huge pile of money to do this but considering we're talking if's then that's the place!
How about you? Anywhere in particular you'd go?
!ENGAGE 25
I thought about it a little bit when I posted the question and realized it is also a difficult question for me. I have a lot of places I want to go.
If we limit it to this planet I would probably say Scotland. We have been planning a trip there but first Brexit and now Covid-19 have been conspiring to keep us away.
If we go beyond the planet I wouldn't mind visiting an advanced alien species and experiencing what they have to offer.
Oh yes, Scotland is our list too...Like you say, just so many places! I think if it was in space I'd like to visit Pandora. Seems like a nice place, if a little dangerous.
ENGAGE
tokens.OMG I also love watching people and without realizing it I begin to imagine what their life story might be like (then I realize how weird I look staring at others so I stop doing it). Well, I think that's something I could share about myself 🤔.
Anyway, my question is: What do you like the most about living in Australia? Actually, I have never visited the country and I would like to know more about it in someone else's words.
A good question...
I was born here so know no other place to live...What do I like? It's a free country where people don't need to live in fear. It has wide open spaces as 95% of the population live on only 5% of the land and contains some of the most ancient and spectacular places a country could have.
Australia is diverse with alpine mountain ranges, deserts, arid lands, savanna, tropical rain forests, native bush, fertile farming land and stunning coast lines. It's diversity reaches into the community also as we have people's from all over the world and can enjoy their food and culture.
We have cosmopolitan cities and small country towns all filled with people from different parts of the world and all with their own unique flavour to add. I myself am the son of a man who immigrated in 1965, fell in love with an Aussie woman, married and embraced Australia as his country. He came for a better life and received it through hard work and effort.
We have a proud heritage of being helpful to others even if that means sacrificing something ourselves and we're always willing to lend a hand, roll up our sleeves and pitch in. It's a country in which hard work can be rewarded and yet has a laid back approach to life mostly; We value our time off and the outdoorsy activities the country permits.
So...What do I like the most about living here?
I think the safety and freedom we enjoy is the answer to that. Australia is the lucky country...
Having said all of that, one thing I don't value is the way the Australian way of life is under threat from people who come here and refuse to assimilate, expecting Australia and it's people to fit around them. Most of these people, when asked, say we came here for a better life...And yet so many bring the same troubles here that made them want to leave wherever they came from in the first place. I hate that.
P.s. People watching is so much fun!

Now I want to visit your country even more! Unfortunately, that security and freedom is precisely what Venezuela lacks, where I am from. The last thing you said sounds pretty... toxic, let's say. I understand how annoying it can be that others try to take away precisely what is most characteristic and what you most like from a place. I hope it becomes less frequent.
Australia really is a decent place to live and I heard they want to increase the population to 50 million quite quickly which will only ever happen through immigration...Probably not in my life time but that's ok, I'd lament the loss of the true Australia anyway.

tokens. If you'd have to change your name and it has to be an adjective what would it be? One or several words. If it also has to describe you, what would it be?
I'll answer the same question. Wittily awkward. Could be shortened to Wawkward. So, impossible to pronounce making my own language rules. That's me.
Have a great weekend! :)
This is a cool question...
I think:
Engaging Recluse because I can be charmingly engaging with people one moment and quite reclusive and shy the next...I would have called myself Wittily Awkward but that name is taken. Lol.
Engcluse would be the shortened version of course, doesn't roll off the tongue very well, but those close to me would call me this more familiar shortened version.
!ENGAGE 25
That is an awesome name! Recluses that can engage if needed or if they want to are the best.
But yes, and no, you shall not take my name. :D
A followup question. If you could be anything you wanted and I mean anything at all, doesn't have to be human or from this world, what would your name then be? (One or several words, doesn't have to be adjective.) I let you answer first so that I won't take your name because I think I know what you're thinking and that's of course the same name what I'm thinking.
This is a hard one...
Say: Master of the Universe. Or Terminator.
Did you ever have that cartoon He-Man? (Masters of the Universe?)
Anyway, Terminator works...Here's me.
I don't remember watching He-Man when I was a child. I'm not sure if Finnish television aired it at that time at all. Later did though. I remember my son watching it sometimes if there was no better options like Pokemon and Ash on TV.

tokens. This is a great question. For me it would have to be assimilated hater. Ass hat for short. In fact, people already call me that. Maybe I should think of another.
:D Oh no!
I was thinking that my name could have had the word hate and if that's there, then there has to be the word people too. But then again hate is such a strong word to carry around all the time so decided to think of something else. I prefer being a hermit than a hater. Happy hermit would have been a good one.
I think mine would be "Calm Chill", because I'm a pretty laid back guy.
That's an awesome name! Sounds a bit like a weather forecast, perhaps a certain kind of weather when mentioned, everyone knows what we are talking about. Or perhaps a mood. There's a Calm Chill vibe going on here. :)
Hi @galenkp. What has been the most dangerous mishap or one that has generated a great demand for adrenaline in your adventures as a hunter.
I used to hunt with three other fellows, one of which performed his own gunsmithing but was very bad at it and his rifle was always having issues.
On one occasion he was being an idiot and his gun went off by accident...The bullet flew over my head by inches...If it had hit me it would have taken my head off, or at least split it in two. That was the last time I went hunting with those three.
That was one of the most dangerous hunting situations I've had, most are completely safe.
Thanks for joining in, greatly appreciated.

Pick your companions wisely, is the moral you thankfully had the chance to learn from that experience.
Yes I agree. Up to that point things were ok but gradually that one individual got worse and worse. I don't miss going with them at all, and certainly don't miss being shot at.
ENGAGE
tokens.That is one awesome question.
I once sprained my ankle as I hunted for a missing sock but sadly that's all I got lol.
I hunted birds with my father a lot. He was a natural left hander so I always hunted to his right to give us a little extra spacing. Which has nothing to do with the question, I just thought of it.
I chose my hunting (or motorcycle riding) companions very carefully. I don't have any wish to be put at risk by a dick head.
I have twice been peppered with shot by dumb asses that shot toward me when a bird flew my way. Neither was hunting with me, and I had a chat with both of the dumbasses. I'd like to think they have become aware of their surroundings a little better.
Here’s a soft ball, why do they call you g-dog?
Softball or curve-ball? Lol.
So, only a few select people call me this in real life. I used it here for some reason and it seemed to resonate with people and so I ran with it.
Anyway, I'll give the basic story...I used to play American football, I was a running back (full back to be precise). I began as an outside line backer (on defence) though, in the early years, and was somewhat tenacious and exuberant when it came to chasing down and tackling the ball carrier. I was single-minded, pretty brutal and rarely let an opportunity go...Much like one of those vicious junk-yard guard dogs that get locked in the yard at night, and let off the leash.
So we were at training one night preparing for the next game and the defence were working on strategy on a whiteboard. The coach, a former Seattle Seahawk player who had relocated to Australia, said and then we'll let the junkyard dog off the chain and he can fuck the ball carrier up, or whomever else he can chase down probably. Something to that effect. He meant me, and it stuck.
From there I got, the dog, junk-yard, chainer, mad-dog, frother (as in frothing at the mouth), the poodle and any number of things but the G-dog ended up being the one that stuck.
The team would say things like, who's going to fuck up the quarterback huh? In a voice one would speak to a puppy in...I'd get c'mon boy, time for your walk and all sorts of shit. It was funny...In the end most people just called me G-dog.
I don't get it a lot now, unless I run into team mates from the old days, sometimes a fan or two recognises me, someone who used to come to the games, and they'll greet me. It works on hive I guess though Nicknames are important here in Australia and if one is given one they tend to stick, certainly within the crowd that gave it. It's worn as a badge of honour, even if it's a shitty one, because it means one is accepted.
So, that's it. Time to get back into my kennel! Lol.
Good question mate, was fun answering it. Now your turn...Do you have a nickname?
!ENGAGE 25
The short answer is no.
My cat has a nickname, actually multiple ones. So does my son. Me on the other hand, just plain old Dave or David (only used by my parents, no suprise there).
I've had a few nicknames, depends on what circles I mix in. Lawrence is one of them because I once wore a shemagh head covering thing at the gun range...Someone said I looked like Lawrence of Arabia, the British Officer who gained fame in World War 1 as an operative in the Middle East. There's no resemblance of course, but one can't help the ignorance of others.
If you don't know what a shemagh is...(Most military personnel who deploy to the sand box use them.)
Dave huh? Here you'd be Davo at the very lease. Dave-O.
Dang, got to get me one of these..could help to protect against the harsh Canadian winters!
There's so many ways to use them...I use mine to ward off the sun, usually whilst shooting.
On this occasion I was shooting the IPSC State Titles and it was 46°C (Around 114F) My wife had wet it down to try and cool me down a bit between shooting stages which were all dynamic (running etc.)
I'll be honest though, I think you'll need something a little more robust for those Canadian winters...I heard they are really cold! (Had an uncle who lived in Toronto)
Yes, Toronto is super cold with that humidity and all. Like a bone chilling cold. May even be colder than Saskatchewan.
Well, Larry. Tell me how you really feel about the Borough Superior motorcycle?
It's the most collectible MC on earth, and Laurence of Arabia is partly at fault. He swore by them, so much that he owned 8. Actually, he died on #7 before 8 was delivered. Those 7 are the most valuable mcs on earth. Yes 7. The one that killed him was scrapped.
There are only 34 whole BS mcs known to exist. There's some parts floating around (also damn valuable) so 35 is always a possibility.
I wouldn't mind one or two of them in the garage...What do you think one would be worth nowadays?
I was at an auction in January where one didn't make reserve at $500,000. It wasn't one of the Laurence bikes. Number 8 traded a few years ago for 1.7 million.
Here's the one that didn't sell for half a mil:
I believe there are many more hidden/forgotten in sheds around the country (UK) and certainly, a few more still exist than you mention, There's about 70 ss100 still out there and a fair few ss80 also.
I have heard rumours of a guy in Cornwall with 2 ss100 tucked away and every year some forgotten gems are rediscovered.
Lof A's number 7 was returned to Brough after his accident and repaired and resold
All I have is some of those parts you mentioned hung on my wall of fame. Lots of cool names here.
I hear rumors a little, too. There's always some really remarkable things being found.
There's a glorious wall. I just love stuff like that. Good for you! I am officially jealous. About the best I have hanging around is a pair of valve covers off a '63 Corvette fuelie and a pair of rear sets from a Hayabusa hanging around my house :)

tokens.I've had a couple of nicknames, and also come from a culture where they stick and mean you are accepted. Most of them have fallen away, and I'm not unhappy to see them go.
I rode with a group that called me Mother. Not as in half the popular expression, but because I wanted to know why you didn't show as promised. If you said you were going to be a place you better call ME if you weren't going to make it.
A baseball team I played on called me eclipse. Because when I walked by the sun disappeared. E for short.
And the brutally obvious 'one eye' or some derivative.
My husband loves to watch the neighbors from our window. I still can't understand why he's doing this. This morning he told me that our neighbor had gone somewhere by car.Do you like to watch your neighbors from your window like a spy?
Hmm...Good question...Am I a spy?
So technically I am not an international man of mystery like Austin powers; I probably wouldn't admit it if I was though I guess.
I wouldn't say I spy on my neighbours but I'm an aware sort of guy, alert and know the comings and goings around my house. Strange cars, people parked where they are not normally parked, different cars in driveways...I'm a person who notices most things and so I can't help but observe. It's my nature.
I do the same when I am out; It's called situational awareness. I know who's around me all the time, who may be a threat, where the exits are, potential hazards. It sounds exhausting I guess, but to me it's second nature.
This is the first time you've commented on the #weekend-engagement post I think. Welcome and I hope we'll see you again.

Im nosey but only when the neighbors are crazy and entertaining. I've had boring neighbors and never once snooped. But when I was living in Kingaroy we had total bogans living next door that shared a common wall with our flat. They'd fight allllll the time and over the stupidest shit. I'd press my ear to the wall and snicker at their arguments. My personal favourite was an argument where the conversation went like this. "Fuck you dazza! I only slept will all your friends because i heard you were sleeping will all of mine! Oh! Yeah shazza thats cause your a slut! I only slept with three of your best friends! You're a drunk. Stop drinking all my burbon! I work ten hours s week to afford this burbon. Its mine! "
Something similar happened to me recently. A couple was walking down the street at 10 pm and the man said to his wife "do you think I don't know that you're unfaithful to me?" ("que me estás montando cachos", in spanish). I didn't know whether to laugh or lament it.
Ha! An age old tale! Humans will always be the way we are. I would've chuckled.
Lol...Dazza and Shazza.
Maybe won't translate to non Aussies, but but made me fucking laugh!
Too much housos i think for me. But yeah her name actually was something like shazza.
Its ok you can call me davo
Lol...Davo...Aussies are basic right? Add an 'O' onto the end of something and you're good to go. Servo, bottlo, smoko...Davo...
You're right, I'm here for the first time with you) thank you very much for the greeting!))) You and I are somewhat similar!))) But my husband does it in a playful way, rather. For example, he hides behind a curtain, like a spy, and whispers to me quietly that a neighbor is leaving the house (for example). I don't know why he loves to do it so much, but it's hilarious)))
Maybe your husband really is a spy and he's pretending to spy on the neighbours as a joke, but really he's actually spying on one of those neighbours who is a spy themselves! A tangled web of spy and counter-spy playing out in the suburbs? You sure he's not James Bond?
You made me laugh!)) And made me think!)) I now have to watch my husband more closely))))
Good plan, keep an eye on him for sure. 😁

But no, I have no idea generally what my neighbors are doing unless they tell me, and then I'll forget :)
We also live in a dead-end street!)) We just bought a house and moved here, we haven't met all the neighbors yet!))
I take this opportunity to answer this question and yes, I like to see my neighbors. More than a spy I think I'm just a gossip hahaha
This is an interesting one.
In your personal opinion, what's the meaning of life? I'd love to know what you think.
Something about me....I would love to live long enough to be able to travel in space hahaha
This is like where I answer 42, right?
I once heard a wise man say "Life is a cosmic joke. It's my job to find the punch line." I've contemplated that some, and think he may have been right.
Oh that's an interesting saying, thanks for sharing. Hm, I guess we're all searching for the punch line
You know i struggled with this question myself. For many its a subjective truth. The answer for me came when i was engaged to a woman and helping to raise her child for some time. I had purpose. A reason. That was my meaning of life. To give to others. To help a new soul grow into this world as best as i could and to be as supportive a husband as i could to my partner. Giving more love than receiving.
To me thats the meaning of my life. From a biological standpoint it makes a lot of srnse too
Hey Dave! I was sure that other people thought about this. Your story is beautiful, I think that helping a child grow into an adult is one of the most beautiful gifts someone can give to another human being. It is indeed just the epitome of kindness.
Being a great husband is one of the vital things inside a marriage. Actually, I strongly believe that the partner comes first and if the relationship is nurtured by both of them, the kid(s) will benefit enormously.
I think that the meaning of life is strongly connected with finding a purpose. That "something" which makes you wake up with a smile in the morning every single day. Your calling. I feel that the meaning of life = the listening of one's calling.
Thank you for reading and have a beautiful weekend!
Thank you @creativemary! I agree with you. It was one thing i learned when i was acting as the boys father and trying to raise him. I had never really discovered who i truly was before then. I discovered that i was capable of giving tremendous love and that deep down i was a good person and that doing good for others or a cause made me feel complete and whole. That little boy taught me the greatest lesson i will ever learn in my life
Nice answer and another example of how the answer is something only one can answer for themself. 🙂
Yeah the meaning of life is very personal and different for everyone. For me its serving others and or a greater cause. Paying it forward for other peoples benefit. I learned this and have actually started thinking of going a totally different direction career wise in my life.
We all have the ability to choose how we think and act, seems like you've chosen a righteous path. 🙂
I'm trying. I have a long way to go before i feel whole again
You'll get there, you know why? Because you're talking about it, thinking about it and want it. That's the vehicle to take you there.

tokens.Your house, containing everything you own, catches fire. After saving your loved ones and pets, you have time to safely make a final dash to save any one item. What would it be? Why?
It's funny...I sat here reading that question over and over for about...20 minutes and I have YET to come up with just ONE answer. So is it fair that I've asked a question that I can't answer myself? lol...
In my mind, it's not the valuable things that I can put a price on that I'm having trouble choosing from. It's all the things that don't have real value to anyone else but me. I can see my grandmothers quilt in the closet, the photo albums in the corner that contain my entire life memories, the letters and cards I've kept for years...
I guess the real lesson is that really, none of those matter in the end. Nothing matters as long as you and your loved ones are safe.
But I'd sure miss my guitar... :)
Oh man. After Sam is out safely there's not much that I'd really need. I suppose it comes down to what I got from two grandfathers. One's Ruby ring. I got it mostly because my hands are big enough to wear it, it's a size 14. The other is my grandfather's pitcher. He sold seeds door to door when he was 10 and got enough to give his mother a carnival glass pitcher with eight glasses. 6 of the glasses are lost forever but I have the pitcher and two remaining glasses.
Fortunately, both are right near the door so I could put the loose items in one of my motorcycle helmets. I'd need a ride after I burned out!
Everyone should have a fire plan in the house. We do and feel a bit safer. Also, a fire blanket and extinguisher. See above for my answer to Jangle.
I also have a fly bag. I was more answering in the spirit of the question than the actuality.
I also have a fire plan, two fire extinguishers and two really obnoxious fire/CO detectors that I test at least annually.
My papers and passwords and passport are stored in a fire safe inside my gun safe, it would be a 'when cooled' recovery plan.
Shit. There would be some ammo cooking off, I hope none of the neighbors gets hit. And a couple pounds of black powder that would probably leave a mark. Plus a local fire department that is legendary for saving the foundation, it would be a mess...
Haha yeah, the black powder would leave a mark for sure! Seems like a similar plan to mine, good to hear you have it although I never for a moment thought you would not.
I did just wire the spare key for the fire safe to it's own handle. If some bad guy can crack the gun safe he can crack the fire safe, right? That way I'm sure I can find the key in a rubble situation...
My crypto wallet uses push notification. One finger print on my phone is my brothers and mine is on his phone. Just in case.
Nice thing about my house is it's so flimsy the black powder explosion wouldn't be contained at all after it left the can. It would still have some serious power...
Plans to be prepared I think. Nothing to gain being ill-prepared and considering how simple it is to have a plan...Crazy that so many don't.
Faith's mum lost her house and everything in it, all except for her purse and the dog plus the nightie she was wearing...It was 4am.
Anyway, this is pretty easy for me as I'm a prepper.
I would grab my go-bag.
It contains just about everything I may need to salvage my life from. Passports, some cash, passwords, phone numbers, membership numbers, bank accounts, a debit card with a few thousand on it, a hard drive with crypto-keys, a spare phone (always charged) which is a mirror of my actual phone. Birth and marriage certificates, copies of wills and power of attorney documents. Some gold and silver, keys to my vehicles and garages, some photos...You get the idea. It even has some clothes as we may be naked or in PJ's when we leave.
To be honest it is in a location that I'd be able to pick it up on the way out, or reach it if I exited a different way. We have a fire evacuation plan and know it by heart and part of that is to have a go-bag.
I'm fortunate to have a large storage area detached from my house so we have things in there. It is unlikely it would burn down if my house did so that's where the bulk of our photos are, precious documents etc. I'm a shooter so I have gun safes, all fireproof up to 1200C for up to an hour. Houses don't take that long to burn.
We would be devastated if this happened to us. My mother in law was. She lost her husband when he was 33, (Faith was 11) and in the fire she lost every single photo or keepsake of him. It was pretty tragic.
So, I know this is probably not really one thing but it sort of is...Go-bag. If you don't have one, make one.

tokens.Hi @galenkp,
An easy question, when does the weekend start and end? Will it have any special implications? Yes, I know that it is just a question, maybe because it is linked, it really is the same question.
At the moment my weekend starts around Friday morning; Sure, I may still have to work, but my mind has already begun weekend-mode. I try not to let anything negative ruin that feeling and that way Friday goes quickly and I can crack into the actual weekend in a better mood. It ends on Sunday night about midnight when I go to sleep...A sad time, but I start to focus on the next weekend, and of course, living my best version of life throughout the week.
How about you? I know different countries have different weekends...I think Thursday and Friday in Iran for instance.
!ENGAGE 25
Hi @galenkp,
Sorry, I didn't answer you sooner ... I usually disconnect on Friday, just at dusk until Saturday evening, in this rest period, it is my weekend, and then dedicate myself to my business for the next six days, Jewish style, without being Jewish.
As you know, I am from Venezuela, a country with a Catholic tradition, where the weekend begins on Friday night and ends on Sunday, although in the not too distant past when my country was very prosperous, some said that Thursday was like a small Friday, and then they began to celebrate in restaurants and parties, thus making a long weekend, a time now forgotten by the disastrous crisis.
As you say, I know that in countries with Islamic faith like Iran, they have Friday and Saturday as their weekend; Although I was baptized in the Catholic tradition, in recent years I have abandoned that faith for many reasons, in fact, I am not affiliated with any religion, I respect them but keep my distance from them; Nor am I an atheist, I believe with intelligence in God fervently, in which, the one who ordered Abraham to leave his homeland.
What does faith have to do with the weekend? A lot ... I think you will also know as a lover of history, that in ancient times, the socioeconomic system was based on slavery, and weekends were unthinkable, well, the Abrahamic religions are responsible for contributing and instituting one day for the rest in the weekly routine, the purpose, to fulfill a commandment based on the example to the creator of the universe, who did it in six days and in the seventh, rest of the creative work. How many psychiatrists and psychologists would lose their jobs if the majority fully complied with the mandate to rest, well, surely they would manage to give therapies to optimize the rest, ha!
I just like weekends and live them as best I can. I'm not of any religious persuasion preferring to hold to my own beliefs and follow them to the best of my ability. I work towards being the best version of myself as often as I can be and live the best life I can, based on my beliefs and ethos. I'm a simple person.
My friend, you have hit the mark as a good marksman, it is very wise to work in the best version that one can become. And that is what I have been able to appreciate from your writings and initiatives with this one that you promote on weekends. And yes, it is good to cling to beliefs, especially when they make you a better person, although time has shown me that you have to recycle some values and discard others. I think you have to walk the right path and have fun while looking for the goal.
With regard to the religious reference, it was only a framework to establish based on the little research on the origin of the weekends. Many people do not like to talk about religion or politics these days, they avoid it because of what is politically correct, why? Religions throughout history have divided humanity. I think it would be an excellent topic to write a post, from an objective perspective without dogmatic passion or proselytizing, of course, in a proper community here at #hive. For the rest, I also love the weekend, and I also want to be a better person. I think the world needs it.
This is a good line...I like this concept and also the next bit you said about walking the right path and having fun while looking for the goal. Very well said and I'll be using those lines in the future. Thank you.
The weekend is about to end, but we have five days to continue enjoying life until the next meeting.

Hi @ bigtom13,
You are very lucky to be the one who decides the extension of the weekends, I am very happy for you. I too am retired, although I think I am still a bit young to lie in a hammock to watch the days go by, and even if I wanted to, I can't because of the situation in my country, every day I have to manage to continue, no longer in a job absorbent, no !, now I do what I like, here in #hive.
It's a surprising power to be given! You'll get used to it, it took me a few years to settle into being able to decide weekends :)
That sounds great. Hahaha
Ok @galenkp. Heres my question. Its one that hasn't been asked of you yet.
Have you ever seen or experienced anything truly bizarre that you could only write off as paranormal? Ghosts, strange lights, weird shadows, freaky people that didnt seem right or real, run ins with things in the bush?
As for me the answer is yes. Some people are like magnets for this sorta phenomena. Some it never has happened to.
Follow up question. If no never. Is there anything you would like to see one day. A tazzie tiger, ufo, sea creature?
I have never seen anything that I could say was a ghost however, I do get a strong feeling at times that I am not alone and tend to see shadows...great question! :D I look forward to seeing some of these answers.
Interesting on the shadows. I'd love to hear more about your experiences with seeing them. Could you describe what you see or what happens with them. Are they scary or do they feel benign?
I too am curious to see galenkp and others answeres regarding this.
It just seems to be shadows at times in the corner of my eye and not all the time. I used to work overnight at a hotel and during my rounds I would always get a creepy feeling in the ballroom and often get goosebumps and see shadows. It always scared me because I was alone and well..it was creepy! I would always look right away in the direction and see nothing. It very well could have been my imagination running away with things...but...I do believe in spirits. :)
Might not have been your imagination either. There could have been something there. Did the hotel have a reputation for this sort of stuff or did anything unusual occur there?
I grew up in a house that was reported to be haunted. We had shadows that would roam the house. It seemed like they preferred to stay in areas that were unoccupied at the time. For instance if everyone was together in the tv room and one of us got up to go to the other side of the house we'd invariably see one darting around. It was like they didn't want to get caught or seen
That sounds really cool but I have to admit, I would have never left the room alone LOL
As far as I know, the hotel didn't have a history of anything too crazy. It could be the land a building is on as well. Or just the energy brought to the place. It's all very interesting to me.
Hi @jangle, see my comment in response to @hidave, and the attached link to the true story I wrote a few weeks ago.
Yes. I'm not a 'sensitive' or anything like it, and the occurrences are few and far between, but I've had a couple of times out in the puckerbrush where I just knew there was some one there.
My best ex and I owned a historical house that had a woman that lived there for 92 years as the previous owner (Her father built the place). Sometimes, we just knew she was there, and we'd make sure she knew what we were doing to her house....
Once I saw something afire in the sky. When I got home I called the FAA and reported. They fed me a bullshit answer but I know what I saw. I suspect it was a military secret type thing, but I don't know.
Interesting about the fire in the sky. I'm very knowledgeable about that specific subject. It likely was military. Where roughly did you have this sighting? Was the colour a reddish orange? If you want hit me up on discord. May be able to figure out what you saw.
hidave#3221
I was way out in nowhere land Eastern Washington, late at night coming home from a drive in movie about 50 miles from home. I was maybe half way... My GF saw it well, too. Summer of '68.
There was fire, and it went on for seconds. The altitude didn't look to be that great maybe 20,000 feet. The nearest military installation would have been Spokane 120 miles east. They were a B-52 base then. Whidbey Island Naval Station would have been about 250 miles west.
No crashes reported and nothing from the FAA.
Hit me up on discord might be able to bring insight to your sighting.
hidave#3221
I will. Today as a matter of fact. Soon as I finish wading through this particular swamp.
Matter of fact, I just did.
I got it and see you. Just responded
My dad saw an UFO...Reported it to Canberra (Australia's Capital). They took it seriously, recorded it and all. Dad was pretty chuffed as he loved sci-fi. Always told people he was from another planet...Sometimes I think he was...And me too. Lol.

I think i should get n top of setting up this new community. I think a lot of us have something to share and I'd especially like to hear your story.
Oh, what a great theme this week. At my university, during our free time, my friends and I asked each other the most bizarre questions we could think of, it's a way of getting to know people bizarrely. Maybe this is the best time to ask you:
1.- What do you prefer, to be able to eat all the foods in the world without feeling any taste, or to be able to taste only one food for the rest of your life?
2.- Do you prefer to live forever or to have your life end tomorrow?
3.- What do you prefer? To NEVER be able to cut your nails, or NEVER be able to cut your hair?
😂😂😂
Until @galenkp is back on deck ill answer that question from my perspective. I'd prefer to eat just one thing forever then never taste again. That way at least im tasting something.
I'd want to live for an exceptionally long time. 1000 years maybe. But I'd want to die eventually.
I haven't cut my hair in ten years. i can easily live without cutting it ever. It only grows to a certain length mid back for me anyways so its not like it would ever get too long. It kinda takes care of its self.
I am curious to know what is that thing you would choose to taste all your life. It should be a very delicious thing for you, hahaha
It seems that nobody wants very long nails. It is not a good option in these times xD
PizzaPastaCheesecakeBurritosSamosaBurgersFish and chipsCorn chipsOreosDamn it...Can I choose 100?
You'd be like Highlander. ( I hope you get the reference.)
Haha i get it!😎
Great questions .Very unique!
hahaha omg, these are questions that put you on the spot, huh? I liked your answers, but I think that in the second one you didn't decide totally, it's ok I forgive you, for me it's also difficult to decide
You're right, I guess I didn't, eh? Well I suppose my answer is to live to be really old and HOPE that I am in my right mind :)
Ummmmmhhhh. Great questions.
I'd want to taste one thing. I can't imagine no taste, it would be awful.
I've I have to choose, I want Sympathy for the Devil played at my funeral next week. Or whenever :)
Nails. The damn things just drive me crazy when they aren't trimmed. I've worn my hair long a couple of times in my life so I know I can do that.
Such a devious little thing you are, coming up with these questions...Ok, here goes...
Great questions Sofi, thanks for playing!

tokens.Have a wonderful Sunday @galenkp
I just want to ask a question about a simple thing about how you choose a good friend? You are so active here and you gain a lot of friendships around. The small thing I knew about you upon reading your blog is so interesting most especially when I knew you have no child with your wife but you still have managed to have a golden companionship and relation. It really amazed me just like my father who loves my mother until the end of my mother's life.
For myself, I have no greatest treasure in this world to give but my love for my friends is always there. Even my bad friends, I still have time for them to share, with high hope that they could realize what good or bad things for a friendship. I love the way to a friend being thoughtful not only fir me but to all their friends too. I don't like backbiting at all and I love sharing good things between us involving other person.
Thats my question and thank you for being a kind of good example to us. You are such a good posive blogger.
Your question: How I choose friends is a good one.
I generally look for openness in people, the ability to be forthright and honest. If a person shows dishonesty or a nature that seems sly and underhanded then nothing else matters, that person will not be a friend. I also look for their sense of humour, both in general and in respect of how well they can laugh at themselves. A person who cannot laugh at themselves doesn't see very interesting to me. My friends need to be good conversationalists, be able to discuss a wide variety of things, not only what I'm interested in, but in general. I also have to feel comfortable with people which helps some of the other things fall into place.
I like generosity in people, courtesy and respect which I look for as soon as I meet someone. They are glaringly obvious when there, or not there, and that forms a large part of the feeling thing I mentioned above.
So, there's a few ways in which I choose a friend. Friends for me just doesn't happen immediately though, it takes time and effort on both parties sides and sometimes it just doesn't happen. I'm quite selective as I choose to have a small friends group.
I hope that answers your question. Thanks for coming by this week.
!ENGAGE 25
Thats awesome and I like the way you did it. Your answer is so satisfying and I hope people could read this to apply in their life too. Its hard to fine a real one but it we are also good, everything will be alright.
Have a good day to you @galenkp.
That was a great question. I would have liked the chance to answer it actually BUT that bearded Aussie fella answered it perfectly already. True friends don't come to easily or leave too easily either.
Wow, thank you for dropping by, That's really absolutely true. I'm so satisfied with the answer of @galenkp. That's what friends are for.

tokens.Like the GDog it's not something I do quickly or really easily. I am a loyal bugger and to hit the real friends circle it means it doesn't stop. So I chose carefully.
I have a couple of exceptions to that method. When the little voice in side me says "Pick this one" I listen.
Thank you @bigtom13. And I will be your bugger too from now on. You are so friendly too
Here's a simple on G-Dog. Given the current state of things and most of the world being in lockdown for ages. Where is the one place you really wanted to go?
I certainly have missed Bangkok since coming out to the Philippines a few years ago I've usually gone over there a couple of times a year. Love the city, great people but far to frantic to stay permanently and the diving is pants ;)
I was due to go to Finland in July this year to see my family so I'd say Finland. The last time I saw my niece she was 2 years old and in July was going to be almost 4 years old so I feel I've missed a huge chunk of her life already, not being able to see her in July this year means another chunk of time and life will pass by. She may be 6 years old before I see her again and that makes me sad. (Phone video chats aren't the same as seeing her in person).
We have a few years ahead of us though, and will travel some more so will get to see her, and all those other places we want to see.
Thanks for playing along this week, it's greatly appreciated.

tokens.Good @afternoon @galenkp,
I would like to ask a question about your love story with your lovely wife. Is she your first love? I saw your everlasting love to your wife that is why I want to know the deeper root of how you got started.
As for me, my husband is not my first love. The first love that I had was a nightmare for me. It happened when I was still in high school. I almost lost my way losing him and thank God I survived and continued my study, became a degree holder and found my real love. God never give us child because of my health issue but love is still around.
Thank you @galenkp
Good question.
We met when we were very young, Faith wasn't even 16 yet, and we have been inseparable since; So, the answer is yes, I don't think I love would be the right word for anyone prior to me meeting Faith.
I'm glad you managed to rebound from your previous relationship and find the courage to continue to study and be the right sort of person to attract a new love into your life. You mention children; We have none either, just wasn't meant to be it seems, however neither of us feels that the love between the two of us is dependant upon having children.
Thanks for dropping by this week and thanks for your great question. :)
!ENGAGE 25
What a good inspiration to me. Your love story remember me my younger years. The difference was we were separated from my first love. And so happy that having no child is not the reason to be separated and look for another partner.
Relationships are what we make them; They require effort and, if formed through the emotion of love, that effort seems less, even though it's still required.

tokens.Hi, @galenkp
I have a question. How difficult is it for a foreign student ot get a scholarship to attend college in Australia?
About myself: I am High School senior now and have no idea what I will do next year. Going to college in venezuela is now almost impossible.
Thanks
Oh @manujune, this question might be a bit beyond my expertise to be honest.
As far as I know it's a fairly simple matter of having the funds to pay for the study and the stay in Australia. University is not free here like in some European countries...For example my brother recently completed a naval architecture degree and it cost almost $80,000 in university fees over the four years. Not cheap.
So, I think provided that a person has the ability to pay for the education and afford to live here whilst it is happening then it shouldn't be too difficult. Many of my brothers fellow students were from overseas. There will be websites you can check out to find out for yourself, maybe university specific. A google search of Australian universities will be a good place to start.
You're a high school senior huh? No idea what you will do next year, but can I askwhat would you like to do? If you had the chance I mean. Any ideas?
!ENGAGE 25
I see. Thanks
I have to start researching specific programs in specific universities.
This is just a wild dream of mine. I know that money is an issue.
I am not quite sure what I'd like to study if I have the chance to go abroad.
Most likely music, which is my No1 passion, or Literature, which I also love.
I guess those two are not very profitable, so I may have to think about something more realistic, like to make a living. We don't get a good trainign in high school. We are poorly prepared for the sciences. We used to be very good, my parents tell me, but our high schools and universities lost prestige in the last years. Most teachers left, we don't have labs or libraries or internet services at schools, so...
Well, I think it's great that you want to check things out...So many just don't, and accept the situation in as the only way. Being proactive and making some effort may not return a good reward, but it's more likely to do so than doing nothing at all. All the best.
Thank you very much!🤗
I appreciate your comment. 👍

tokens.Let me tell you exactly why I love this concept so that you can take a moment to throw something, scream out "I don't need that arrogant bloody pom's approval" and then you can go on to not care whether I like it or not
I believe getting to know people here is like putting together the pieces of a jigsaw... We see the small picture during individual interactions, gradually glean tidbits of information, some make us say "Wow! I did not know that about him/her."
Over time we get to build a far better picture of the people we engage with regularly, occasionally something surprises us ((like the time you told me you trained to be a prima ballerina...)) I believe I have built a fairly accurate picture of you regarding the important stuff, values, moral compass, integrity and suchlike, it will come as no big shocker if I tell you I rate you 'legit' and although I imagine irl you'd be a little brusque but a bloody nice fella... Hmm that's possibly how I'd describe me too haha.
Jeez all I was meant to be telling you is why I love this prompt, right? It helps me to fill in a couple of the blanks, that's why I think AMA's are an awesome concept.
Hmmm... From the whole gamut of questions that could be asked, how do I narrow that wide field of possibility down to just one... Uhmmm... I don't!
As a rebel, renegade and flouter of the rules I shall ask two as I think they correlate nicely with eachother...
Is there something you would consider your biggest regret? (Bitcoin related answers banned lol)
Is there something you would class as your greatest victory? (Other than matching up with the lovely Faith)
Oh wait... This is a quid pro quo right, so what to
make upoffer up about the legend in his own mind that is Steven Wood...I am not nearly as extrovert, confident and self assured as I may come across in my scribblings here. I don't even always like myself. My lady is my very best friend in the world and always will be. I want WAY MORE for others than I do for myself, but have realised in the last couple of years that if I follow through with that, it may very well ensure I get great results and fulfillment for ME by default.
That's quite, quite enough being all 'sharey' and shiz for one day
Hope you are doing good Mr GKP Sir 🙂
Hmmmmm. My biggest regret.
I try to not over examine the past, and I've got damn few real regrets. I'm guessing the biggest of those would be not serving in the Navy. I enlisted, took the physical and was sworn in when I was 20. Before I went active I lost my right eye and that was that. I really think 4 years in the Navy would have helped me order my life at an earlier age. I was pretty lost in 1971.
My biggest victory? Surviving. I've lived pretty fast at times and taken some outrageous chances. I'm still here. For the win!
I think a few have this regret, not joining the military; It is a really good way to add perspective to a young person's life and some discipline. This is why I'm an advocate for compulsory military service like some countries have. I think everyone in Australia should have to do a year between 18 and 19 years old with a call up period of 15 years afterwards, should the need arise. Just my opinion.
I could go with that plan. Given the 15 year call up period, that would really work.
I've said often that any wars America fights should be fought with draftees. If the mothers are behind their sons and daughters fighting then you KNOW the cause is just. We have the most professional standing military in the history of earth, which makes it way too easy to use.
If you carry a hammer around with you everywhere you go, sooner or later you are going to find a nail that needs to be driven in (or back in). Too easy.
I really do like your plan.
Yep, you guys have some serious firepower; Luckily Australia and America are friends.
Yeah. I like the weapons and systems development I really, really do. But I honestly believe that the large military lends itself to 'problem solving' problems that really aren't ours.
There's that of course and America has a long history of doing so. I see it as good and bad but it also lends itself to corruption doesn't it. Wars for the wrong reasons.
I'm pretty much as you describe although I'm not sure brusque is the right term. I mean I can be, but it's not a trait...It's something that's brought on by a trait though...The fact I don't suffer fools. I can be as hard as fuck though, brutally hard, but most never see that in me, certainly not my friends. That's reserved for those who deserve it because, not everyone on this planet is a good person. Generally though, I'm a fucking great friend, funny and open, honest, humble and kind. That's the real me that some people get to see, if they wipe away their perception.
So...Your questions.
I always wanted to be a fireman. I did the pre-entry course, gained my first aid certificate and got my truck license which were pre-entry requirements. The problem arose when Faith was worried that the job was dangerous. In deference to her wishes I didn't go down that path. My regret is not having the ability to talk her through it, the skill to make her see what it could have been rather than the bad things about the job. I think she regrets the fact I didn't do so also now. She was young, had only lost her dad tragically several years earlier, a thing that stays with her to this day. I think she was just afraid. It's all good though, I'm over it now and I certainly feel being with Faith for all these years is a better reward than being a Fireman would have been. I'd make the same decision I think, if I had to again.
I came from a family that didn't have a lot and, whilst I'll not go into it here, was out of home as a seventeen and a half year old; I had to make my own way. It's not been an easy journey and there were wrong turns and false starts but now, at fifty, here I am still standing, thriving (pandemic aside) and a pretty well-rounded and successful person. I'll not go into all the reasons I think of myself that way, but I could very easily have been a different person. That is a victory I think, getting to this point in life and being able to look in the mirror and (mostly) like what I see. I also see my failings and failures of course, but generally I feel content that I've led a good life. I've done more good things than bad (did so many bad things) and have a good outlook on life, an ethos based on humility, kindness and generosity...I think one can't ask for much more.
So there you go...Your answers...Which probably only bring more questions.
I am not surprised that you're less self-assured in real life, not surprised in the least bit. It's not a bad thing though. We all have various personas we roll out when required and as appropriate. You at work, you with your daughters, you with your wife, you with mates at the pub etc. I think those with the ability to only present one persona may be limited in their opportunities. I am also not surprised to hear that your wife is your best friend.
Good questions, thanks for playing along.
!ENGAGE 25
Mmhmm... I did question the word brusque immediately after posting, thought you may correct me haha. Yup you went to to explain the perception I was referring to, not suffering fools, taking no crap etc.
Yes!!! I think not having at least some of that, leaves you incredibly vulnerable to the world and that is precisely how it should be handled, right? If everybody saw it constantly (we both know those people...) it would lose it's value as a 'go to' in the toolbox of who we are.
Perhaps the fireman think was destined not to happen for some other reason, who understands the mystery of life, right?
I use exactly this expression so, so often. So much of what you say resonates with me, I noticed this way back. I like that, although I am certain this is apparent lol. I left home at a remarkably similar time, before 18 after a bottle of whiskey and an experience of speaking my mind for the first time ever. I was told I would come crawling back... I won't tell you how many nights I slept rough before moving in to a hostel... I did not, do not and will never crawl anywhere to anybody ever.
Actually no, it did not raise more questions, not really, they were both very satisfying answers, I'm glad I chose those questions!
Take good care my friend, have an awesome week :)
It's interesting how people's lives run in parallel. I also think that the experiences we're both described go towards shaping how we think and act and therefore how we are then, now and in the future.
Everything happens for a reason, some we can affect and other outside of our control...It's what we do and how we act that makes the difference.
Have a great week.

tokens.A time traveler shows up. He makes you an offer you can’t refuse. You must go back in time a minimum of 100 years, to a place on Earth of your choosing, and stay there. Once there, you’ll speak the local language fluently. You get to take a rucksack-sized bag filled with whatever you choose (other than a time travel device). When/where do you go and what do you take?
I have had a loaded gun pointed at me.
I think I'd go back to just before the Industrial Revolution, England. I'd take my grandfather, an ingenious character, one that would come in handy when it came to figuring stuff out.
I'd take my camera and a few spare batteries, pocket knife (goes everywhere) and a few books about engineering, some blueprints of machines and stuff. I'd take a heap of silver and gold too.
Whilst there my grandfather and I would invent some stuff, the car or some such thing, Velcro maybe and then just have a holiday. When we got back to nowadays all would be well. Oh, I'd probably initiate a few good financial investments as well.
The loaded gun story...Maybe you'll tell it someday. Not too many people can say that.

Your grandfather fits in a rucksack?
It was due to my stupidity. Years ago I lived in the lower unit of a duplex. In retrospect the place was a firetrap, I should never have moved in. There was an outer door leading to a small common area that had stairs going to the upstairs unit and access to the front door of my unit which had no back door. And you could not exit through the interior front door without using a key. What could possibly go wrong?
Eventually, the front lock became less and less reliable. I called the landlord, left several messages on his answering machine, got no reply. One day when I got home from work, I could not get the interior door open. So I went around the side of the building and climbed in through the living room window.
A few minutes later the doorbell rang. Since I couldn’t get to the front door, I opened the window to yell out at whoever was ringing the bell.
”Hands up!” said the cop who was pointing the 9mm at me. Well, duh, some concerned citizen had seen me climb in a window and called the constabulary.
I explained my predicament and when asked to provide proof of residence dropped my right hand. After a few inches of quick movement, my subconscious screamed at me. That might be the last stupid thing you ever do! I stopped and said to the cop that I was going to very slowly reach for my wallet. Gave it to him and put my hands back up while his partner went to their vehicle to check on whether I had any outstanding warrants.
They then released me with the advice that “You might want to fix that lock.”
I disassembled it and oiled the pieces before reassembling them. The landlord finally got back to me about two weeks later.
He was a Smurf.
A close brush with the law. Lucky you had the presence of mind to think logically huh? Could have ended different.

Here is my question; When are you going to start playing Splinterlands? :)
Here is something about me. I bought 50,000 hive yesterday! :) Why? Because Galen, your younger brother asked me to! LOL
Man. My expertise with gaming is just pretty close to my trading ability.
I went all in on Drug Wars and left Splinterlands alone. I still haven't started...
Better late than never! Splinterlands much more fun :)
Splinterlands...
Gaming isn't my thing; I've played video games of course but I don't really get into them. Even less on my radar is card games like Pokemon and things which I think is what Splinterlands is all about right? An online version? I'll be honest, I know literally zero about Spinterlands other than my belief in it being a monetised card-battle game or some such.
My mind bends around Splinterlands stuff when I see it on hive to be honest, I just have zero interest. I've even unfollowed people because they always posted about it. I get my kicks in the real world through my hobbies and spending time with my wife. I try not to sit on my computer too much and I think gaming would push me down that path, so I don't do it.
I'm not sure if people will see these as good reasons not to be on Slinterlands...But they're mine so I'll own them. I guess some play SPlinterlands, some use Facebook, play games online or whatever...I prefer to engage in the real world thought hiking, hunting, shooting sports, kayaking, camping, off-roading etc. I have a lot of hobbies and can't really fit a new one in.

Thanks to the sponsors for helping keep the weekly engagement going! I don’t know if I’ve made the cut off for this one but let’s give it a go!
I will elaborate on my aspect of it later when I have time but who in history would you like to spend a week getting to know and why? I would prefer to keep it beyond the past 20 years, meaning important figures that have gained attention in the past 20 years wouldn’t be options, though I don’t think you’d pick someone from recently but you never know! What kinds of things would you anticipate doing with them?
You made the cut off with time to spare...
There's so many I would be able to answer this question with. I'm fascinated by people's drive and ability to create something out of nothing...Alexander the Great, Winston Churchill, Henry Ford, Napoleon, William the Conqueror, the Vikings, Captain Cook and the list goes on.
You asked for one though and I'm going to choose Enzo Anselmo Giuseppe Maria Ferrari.
I'd like to hear about his failures and how overcame them, also how he motivated himself not only as a racing driver but as the founder of the Scuderia Ferrari Grand Prix team and ultimately the can manufacturer. Doing what he did at the time he did it is amazing and I think he would have a lot to impart to a bloke like me based on his 90 years of life.
I would ask about aspects of his life that he feels were pivotal, what drove him and why...Who influenced him and why. All of this would take place in Italy over coffee, Italian food and wine and at the end of the week I think I'd come away with a lot more life-lessons through his experiences that I could gain in ten years of my own.
A good question...Now what about you?
!ENGAGE 25
I’ve been thinking about this all day! I’ve narrowed it down and will follow up in a bit when the little man is sleeping!
Haha...That's gold! A good solid name of course, and with your Italian background...Makes sense.
I toured the Ferrari factory and museum a few years back, Lamborghini and Ducati too, plus the Musée automobile panini (Collezione Umberto Panini) all around Modena. Wow, is about all I can say. I've written posts, might do another someday. I was driving an F430 Spider around Modena for a while too...Sort of felt good.
I think it's good that you kept some link to the old country and it's not a name one comes across all the time so should set the lad apart, in a good way.
I love all things Italian and have been there a few times...Will go back. We have a pretty legit restaurant called Enzo's here...Very nice food! https://enzosristorante.com.au/ (Now I want to go to Enzo's. ) Lol.
That’s awesome! When we eventually go back, we are definitely planning on spending like a month there and exploring things like the Ferrari factory and so many others. It will be nice to show our son the places we saw when we were younger and lots of other things.
So I’ve been thinking about it and there’s obvious ones for me like Dean Martin, Johnny Cash, Nikola Tesla, Leonardo Da Vinci, Enzo Ferrari and several others but lately with the way things have been going both in our lives as well as in the world I would go with Daniel Boone. He was an American pioneer and explorer, at least in ‘legend’ if he was ever a real person, you never know with some of these historical pieces. The concept though of going out and exploring, living off the land and being sustainable and self sufficient is something that’s resonating with us a lot. We’ve been pretty independent people in our lives and relationship so having the ability to go exploring and charting new territory for at least ourselves if not for others is something I could really look up to.
I would definitely appreciate some time with him to see how he was able to handle the time away from his family and relatives. I don’t know if he had a wife and kids but I would have mine with me of course, but to see his innovation and how he met challenges while in the raw wilderness is intriguing to me. I envision us having that type of life at some point, just my family and we hopefully have enough land that we don’t see our neighbors. I would like to have someone with his skills show me things that are beneficial but with a modern twist of course like chainsaws lol. The woodsman knowledge he had though must have been great, at least in the stories.
I’ve been watching so much of this great American TV show called Homestead Rescue and have been trying to learn some of the things because I feel like it might get there some day. We might have to homestead just to get away from the crazy bullshit that goes on. It’s interesting the older I get the more I want to live away from the city instead of closer to it lol. There’s too much riff raff and shit that I want to raise our son away from all that as best we can.
I'm a prepper so I understand this desire to seek a more natural or offgrid life. There's a lot of merit it it, and in having the skills to permit one to escape society, or at least distance from it.
I'm familiar with Daniel Boone and I reckon to have those skills would leave one feeling pretty confident; I've written about this before myself. Of course in the modern society there's a few additional things one would need to know and have, as you say, although the skills are similar when it comes to the wilderness, nature and animals.
I watch a show called Lawless Land made by National Geographic. It's about living in a place called Port Protection, Alaska focusing on how they survive, provide for themselves and plan ahead. It's pretty cool.
I think it's good to have the idea you have and who better to pass on a few skills than Daniel Boone huh?
Awesome thanks for the show recommendation my friend! We are always looking for a new show to watch, especially related to that type of content!
There would definitely need to be some aspect of it that would need to be modernized but I’ve learned a fair bit from the likes of Bear Grylls and Marty Rainey via the shows I watch they put out!
I’ve read about your prepper things, I think. We this past week and a half or so have made our first ever massive batches of homemade Italian tomato sauce! We canned it and everything, I’ll be posting about it at some point lol
That was about 400 pounds of tomatoes, we are still buying another 100 pounds if we can get it today!

tokens. So one problem is voting then waiting to comment is losing or forgetting that you were going to comment. So the AMA question:
Do you have a good restaurant where you live that you enjoy the food from? Will they go off menu for a special dinner dish you want?
For my wife and I we have a restaurant that is very good, and has some very good cooks. The food is very well prepared and always very tasty. They do not have an extensive dinner selection menu but it is pretty varied.
Dinner for me this early evening was the Spaghetti Squash Enchiladas, their current vegetarian dish and it is a favorite of mine when I am not desiring some protein at dinner.
For my wife, she loves noodles and pasta, problem is they only have Pasta Primavera very infrequently, and when they do it is fantastic. They will how ever go out of their way to make custom dinner for their customers. So for my wife this evening, it was Pasta Primaveria with Su-jet meatballs, tailored veggies, (squash, cauliflower, broccoli and then sliced red peppers) with a creamy sauce.
Does anyone else have a restaurant that will do this for their customers? Mind you my wife and I are no where near rich, tonight's bill came to only $62.00 USD. A pretty reasonable price in Alaska for a fine dining meal.
Great question.
So, Faith and I don't eat out too much for dinner as it can be quite expensive to do so. We do have a few lunches though and we go to a cafe not too far away that have a set menu sort of thing. They do that to save cost of course, but it is all home made on site.
I've had just about everything there which I really enjoy but sometimes I want something different, something they have to make up for me. Because I go there a lot they do so and are happy to do it for me. It's really a nice spot, good atmosphere and music, friendly, and they treat us like one of the team, as such.
So yes, we have a little spot, but it's lunch not dinner.
One of their dishes. Just a simply breakfast, but tasty. $16AUD with a flat white coffee. (Scrambled eggs on toasted rye and avocado.) Not on the menu.

They would occasionally go off menu, generally for Pazole, my favorite Mexican dish. About 6 of us would meet for coffee every day. After a year of drinking their coffee I felt I knew them well enough to ask if I could tune up their coffee machine. Then it was perfect!
Hiyah! I'm only asking this question because I live abroad, So here it goes... if you could live and work in any country, what country would it be and why?
P.S. I love these weekend engagement post.
Well, I'd probably say Canada except for Poutine and cold weather. I love big spaces so I guess it'd be Australia.
Quick survey...The right answers will gain you an enter anytime pass into Australia.
Answer these things correctly and you're in!
Ooo, so close, yet so far...
Cobber means a mate buddy or friend. Like with you I might say, g'day cobber or would you like another beer cobber?
So...g'day is pronounced more... without the good part. Sort of G....Day. Not Gee day...G-Day* So, you were close...I'll give you one more question to answer and if you get this right you can come in...
Is Australia an island, a continent, or both?
Both! That's easy.
You're in...GTG! Just show this at customs and say, g'day cobber, G-dog says I could come.
You'll breeze right through and they'll give you a free starter pack including a beer, some Vegemite, Tim Tams and some chicken salt.
1 Yeah, I'm ok with great weather.
2: Bro. More than friend but less than family.
3: I actually worked with some Aussies for a couple of years so I learned to say it RIGHT. gud Eye.
You're in Cobber!
Surly being English all I have to do is commit a crime and it's off to Aus with me:)
Yup that,s why I now live in the tropics
Mate, mucker, pal.
Gudaiy, sport.
You're in mate...To be honest stealing a loaf of bread or apple would have done it, but you passed the test anyway! Drop my name at customs...You'll walk right through.
Cool stick the oven on, I'll bring the pasties🥟
I think if you go down the 'commit a crime' route there is a downside... You have to share a dunnie... Always check beneath the seat for a funnel-web if you do!!!
Nowadays the criminals get sent to the North East of England where I live anyway!
Haha, Geordies, ain't too bad it's the guys across the way in Scouse land you have to worry about.
I've been sharing dunnies all my life with complete strangers so the occasional spider could be worse:)
LOL. Not far off the Geordies and Mackems. I'm in Teesside, we are anonymous really, except for Middlesbrough Football club, I do work with a lad called Scouse (you can guess his accent, right?) 'worry I do' haha.
I find most spiders quite beautiful and pretty friendly tbh... That doesn't mean I would 'like' to share my dunnie with one of course.
Great to cross paths again, all too often, we only get to catchup with people we haven't caught all week in the Weekend Engagement initiative, kinda why I love it :)
I've been to Australia and its amazing!
Unfortunately I'm one of the millions of Americans that's never been to Canada, so I'm not sure what it's like there. I mostly hear good things though.
Hey there, thanks for asking a question...No thanks for making it so hard! Lol.
I'd have to say Australia as we have a very safe and free existence. There's a lot wrong with it at the moment, but when compared with other places those things pale into insignificance. We have a good climate and generally incomes are pretty good. The COVID situation is hitting hard, and our economy was in decline before that, but still, the standard of living is good.
We have a very diverse country with just about everything any other country has from snow to tropical forests, amazing beaches and waterways, arid and desert lands, savanna, native scrub, fertile fields and mountain ranges...It's pretty sweet. It's culturally diverse also so our food is varied, plentiful and of a very good quality.
Having said all of that, I have travelled extensively and there's many places I could settle down however in light of the pandemic situation I think Australia has been confirmed as the best place to be for me. There's merit to having an island and the ability to lock it down.
Disclaimer: New Zealand's south island also appeals to me. Such a beautiful spot.
Great question...Now your turn...Where would you choose and why?
P.s. Glad you are enjoying the #weekend-engagement posts.
!ENGAGE 25
I realise I have already asked a question, BUT I heard there was a special on this weekend... Have you ever seen snow in OZ Galen?
You can have this one for free.
Yes it snows here in certain areas. I have seen snow in a few of them including the high country in Victoria, In Tasmania on My Wellington and in Canberra. I'm not into skiing so haven't been to the ski fields per se, but if up high enough one can play with snow. It's odd to think it snows here in Australia I guess, but it does, every year.
Yeah it is strange, considering the perception people have of flaming Oz, I thought I had heard before that it did snow, but it is fab to get some fair dinkum clarification from a bloody native :D
Not sure if I ever mentioned that my Nana's Brother in law came from Highett, Vic, before. Although I may have mentioned that after my Granddad died, my Nana who had never left the country ever went to Oz for 3 months and ended up staying closer to 9 months in the end, in her mid 60's.
Nobody ever knows where life is gonna lead them. I'm sure I am not telling you anything you don't already know or believe lol.
It's a country of contrasts and whilst winters are nowhere near to what Europe experiences we got some snow. It has even snowed here in South Australia but it's extremely rare and only in certain areas...Not enough to ski on of course, just some light snow fall.
Where did your Nana stay when in Australia? Victoria? 9 months is a good amount of time to spend for sure.

tokens.Having never taken part in an AMA before, this is quite exciting stuff! Since we were just talking about food, here's my question...
Seeing how we both like to munch of anything that can be feasibly digested, this could be a tough one. I actually don't know anything about Australian food, so this could be interesting for me to learn, too. Personally, mine would be the curry puff. There's just something so pleasing about eating them, and as small as they can sometimes be, I'd happily have them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner 😜
Damn you...Asked a bloody hard question. The thing is that traditionally Australian food has been very influenced by English food, unsurprising as we began as a colony of the British. These days our food is so diverse due to the multiculturalism. I like it all too!
But I'm going to pick something truly Australian.
The ANZAC biscuit.
This biscuit was made for the troops fighting in World War One, the Diggers. ANZAC means Australia New Zealand Army Corps as we're joined forces with the
sheep fuckersKiwi's over in NZ to go to war in support of the British. The ANZAC biscuit was sent to the boys for a snack. If I ate only these for the rest of my life I wouldn't last long, but they are one of my favourites and a very Australian thing. So, yeah, that's it.
https://www.delicious.com.au/recipes/slightly-chewy-easy-anzac-biscuit-recipe-you-can-make-now/7ffc9d90-5b77-4698-a8fa-dc8457370c71
Party pies are one of my all time favourite aussie snacks. I saw that pic and got instantly hungry.
Can't say I'm surprised, since I got pretty hungry after going through Google Images looking for curry puffs, or "karipap" as we call them here. I think I tried licking the screen, but I don't think it helped. I tried looking up what party pies are, and they look quite delectable too! It's almost the same concept, but replace the broth, tomato paste, and red wine in meat pies with curry, and you have karipap!
Sounds like id eat karipap for sure. I'm currently hungry and thinking about what to do for lunch. Reading all these hive posts on food is pulling me in so many directions. I want party pies and chips, burgers, stuffed peppers, guacamole and sushi right now. But i can only pick one!
Haha, I can feel your pain. I've trained myself now to browse through food posts and videos just before going to bed, as it'll make my stomach grumble in joy. Unfortunately, the stall that sells karipap outside my apartment complex isn't opened 24 hours. I think I need one... Right now 🙃
Lol...The old party pie...A good old snack, meal if one eats enough of them! Good answer. I actually like the little pasties the best although have been known to smash the pies for lack of pasty-action on the table. I went to my brothers graduation when he finished his Marine Architect degree, it was down in Launceston last year. The after party thing was great...Good food...Where does the G-dog head..Yep, party pies and pasties. #simpleman #easypleased
Don't forget the sausage rolls! A little bit of tomato sauce and youre good to go!
Ah yes, they're my secondary protocol...Pasty, sausage roll, pie...Although rarely do I have one without the others. Just how I roll.
No they all go together like a shmorgsbourg. Or however you spell that word.
I told you, mate, I'm not going to go easy after that chicken tender incident. Especially since I know deep down that there's quite a large variety of things you like to stuff down your gullet. Still, ANZAC cookies look and sound mighty tasty! They do remind me of a popular brand of packaged oat cookies we have here; Oat Krunch.
They are delicious, and its anything like ANZAC cookies, there's enough sugar in there to make branding the oats as a healthy ingredient, quite pointless. A pack or two of these, and I'll have diabetes for sure. I suppose its understandable to give those soldiers in the trenches loads of energy in a pinch. I'm guessing you're not too fond of the Kiwis then, the sheep fuckers 😆
New Zealand and Australia have a constant (good-natured) rivalry. You'd have to be a Kiwi or Aussie to understand it. We pick on them and they return fire.
We went to war together though, we're close in that way, bonded, and either will stand up for the other in a fight or at a time of need. That's what we do.
They call us stuff, we call them stuff and we play our rivalry out on the sporting field: Cricket, rugby and netball.
A Kiwi would look at that comment I made and laugh, return fire and then I'd laugh. It's what we do.
The term ANZAC means a great deal here, and we honour those who fought under that banner, blokes who died together to protect an ideal back in WW1. It might seem an odd situation but here, for Aussies and Kiwi's...It's how we are. A disrespectful banter based on deep respect. It won't make sunset unless you're from NZ or Aus though I think.
The ANZAC legend lives on in us and when I was there I visited several ANZAC war memorials to pay respect to the blokes who died alongside the Aussies. I take that seriously.
Lest we forget.
I totally understand that, without a doubt. I do enjoy a bit of banter between different communities, out of mutual respect and understanding, and nothing short of the upmost trust with one another.
After WW2, my grandad put his rifle down and got into civilian life, but not before spending some free time in Singapore hanging around with his former Brit, and ANZACs in the army.
Whether it's there hanging around on the beaches and chasing the ladies, or defending a hill from the Banzai charges, there's nothing short of trust between them. Respects to those who put their lives on the line, so that we may live in harmony.
Well said here, nothing else to add. ✅
I got you, mate ;-)
You know? I don't know didle about Australian food except maybe the menu at Outback Steak House so I'm going to choose a local to me delicacy. I live in an area that has it's own Mexican based cuisine, Sonoran. My favorite is Carne Asada (served as a burrito). It's carefully dried roast beef that is ground and then reconstituted with mild sauces. Many cooks sun dry the beef or cook it the first time in a solar oven. Ohhhhhh, it's good.
Sonoran cooking is rather bland, but everybody has a couple of shades of salsa to go with. Mild to insane hot, depending on your preference. The most popular is a fermented salsa that ends up sort of blackish looking and is pretty warm.
That sounds mighty tasty! I forgot why people called it an outback steakhouse, though I wonder it might have something to do with the Australian outback. Heh, I don't know, but a good steak is music to my belly 😋. Even looking at pictures of Carne Asada is enough to make me salivate...
Yeah. It's named after the Australian Outback and they use cheesy Aussie accents and references, but pretty damn good food.
Carne Asada is ambrosia, near as I can tell.
Well, I've tried using an Aussie accent before, and it's awful 😬. I've had steak at an outback steakhouse before, and it's amazing. The juices, and suppleness of that meat is perhaps the best thing I've put in my mouth so far 🍖
It's pretty tasty. I'm not sure why the one here in Yuma shuttered, but there is one embedded in my favorite casino in Laughlin that I stop at now and again. Strictly for the meat, you understand.
Haha, totally understood! No slot machine or poker table is as enticing, nor as wholesome as a slab of juicy meat 😋
Curry puffs are awesome and much more appealing than the fermented duck eggs offered up as a suggestion of a gift in last week's WE lol.
Although I think I could happily eat curry from cardboard lol I love it!
Lol, I just went ahead and Googled what fermented duck eggs look like, and I think I've lost my appetite. Although maybe this is a case of don't judge a book by its cover, and just maybe it's actually taste. Nonetheless, I can never have enough curry puffs in my life 😁
Curse Google, right? lol.
Indeed, although you know when you are pretty certain your first instinct was right? haha We are however in full agreement on the curry puffs. Have a fabulous week my friend, I hope Monday has been good to you :)
Haha, true. First impressions do last a lifetime however, and seeing those duck eggs don't inspire much confidence of me putting it in my mouth anytime soon. My Monday has been mundane, although Tuesday is presently more okay-ish. Cheers!
Hi!
I have a question, question here is, why people asking the question? 😁
This is an interesting question and one which I can answer in only one or two simple words...You ready?
People are asking me questions because thirteen weeks ago I decided to promote engagement a little more proactively here on hive. I'm a strong advocate of engagement here as I know the benefits it can bring, and in over three years of being on the blockchain I've watched my own small account grow a little through engagement and relationship building.
I thought about many ways to help promote engagement and give people an easy way to reach out to others, most of which I discarded as not suitable for one reason or another.
But all was not lost, and in my deliberations I came up with a concept that invited people to a post with the sole reason of commenting and engaging, based around a topic that I set. Because engagement is slower on the weekend I decided that the weekend would be the most advantageous time to target for said engagement initiative and so Friday is when the topic is released.
I called it the #weekend-engagement topic.
I decided also to reward people with votes and, ENGAGE tokens and also in direct transfers of HIVE to their wallets which I would transfer to them on the Monday directly after the weekend and announce it with a post tagging them. The emphasis is on fun and humour although some have taken a more serious tone which is fine also; As long as people are engaging I'm happy.
Since its inception the #weekend-engagement post is responsible for thousands and thousands of comments being placed on the blockchain over the weekend and well over 1000 HIVE being transferred to many many users simply for their comments and engagement with others, all based around the topic I announced each Friday, just like this one you commented on.
People have come to enjoy the engagement, and many have begun to form strong new relationships with those they have met here on the #weekend-engagement post and those relationships will assist users to build their network, profile and the amount of rewards they earn on their own posts...This is the power of engagement, valid and relevant engagement, here on hive.
People are also asking questions because they enjoy interacting with others, learning about the other members of the hive community and the by-play between themselves and those people; It deepens people's enjoyment here on hive.
So, I hope this very short and to the point answer is a suitable response to your question of why are people asking questions.
If, by some chance, you feel my very brief response insufficiently answers your question I would be more than happy to write a longer response explaining the benefits of engagement and interaction on hive.
Thank you big brother, what a lovely feedback! I like it, "We" approach, and without engagement, it’s never been possible.
Together we grow! Happy weekend!
Have you ever considered shorter responses? I would never have the time for this kind of response!!!
It seems kinda superfluous to me, jus' sayin'😆
Hit the mark I was going for then. Job done.
It's a Friday sort of thing. One day per week we all play by @galenkp 's rules.
Yes, You are absolutely right
Yes, you are right. I answered the others first, which I understand is not exactly in the spirit of the post. Sue me.
Personal to me. What would you do if shooting were removed or greatly diminished in your life? What would it be then?
Hmm, good question; Let's assume firearms have ended, rather than diminished as that's most likely what will happen.
My grandfather was an expert wood carver and craftsman; He could do anything with wood from intricate, ornate and delicate carvings and french polishing to the construction of cabinets, tables, writing bureau's etc. Anything really. The thing is, that he never allowed me to use his carving tools and play around much in his workshop as I was a piano player and he was afraid I'd cut a finger off.
So, I think I'd get into that a little bit; Furniture restoration. I have done some already, a jewelry box and chest of drawers, stuff like that but nothing really complex. I'd like to get some tools and maybe go for some lessons, there's adult-education centres where I could go...Pick up stuff cheap and restore them and give it away, donate it. Taking something old and decrepit and improving it, upcycling it. Just for fun.
It probably all sounds terribly boring but I think it'd be cool and a nice way to feel close to my grandfather despite the fact it would be impossible to reach even half his skill. Faith and I want to do that together actually.
Not even boring in the least! I'm no carver, but I have built some cabinets and book cases but I too really like refinishing and recycling furniture. I've even learned a bit of upholstery in my quest...
Honestly? I really loved using hand planes. They fascinated me in form and function. I just love watching the wood curl over the blade.
Great answer. Thank you!
Oh yeah hand planes. I have one, the last of my grandfather's I managed to salvage. I also loved that thin curl of wood they would produce and the way they would come out of the tool as they moved across the surface of the wood.
Grandad had so many tools, a workshop full, from bandsaws and routers to planesaws and of course some very sharp carving chisels.
I've got loads of tools and have some skills, working with wood like my grandfather did would make me happy.
Wood is nice and I like working with it...One day I'll do it in a more sophisticated way than I do now.
Wood is like life, but more permanent. It can be made into most anything you want and even an ugly piece can have it's own beauty.
I agree, it's a nice material to work with and I like the idea of turning it into something, especially turning something that may otherwise end up burned or in landfill back into a productive item that may continue giving for years to come.
I'm sorry, I don't read Spanish.
Good afternoon, I find this initiative that you are taking very good and fun, really a very daring and interesting idea, my case is a simple question would be, would you be living in a house away from the city for a year with your 2 best friends and your partner, with all expenses paid but every day they would have to eat the same food (the food that you like to eat the most) in the three dishes and as a reward for the victory they would give you a million dollars and a mansion where more will you wish
Greetings, my name is Mauricio Vilera, I am 28 years old, tell about me because I was a Scout here in San Juan de Los Morros, Guarico; when I was young that was a unique experience for the whole time I was there for about 12 years, I would say life, once a Scout always a Scout, I came to the Clan unit and lived and met a lot of unique people who are important and valuable today in their different areas, and we always traveled to remote places, unique and with difficulties, challenges and new experiences competing in a gentlemanly way, always demonstrating union, camaraderie, group spirit and above all friendship, companionship, and values, principles and foundations of society
A really good initiative that you have, congratulations, good night.
Hmm, interesting question...I'll be honest, I don't know if I could live in a house with my 2 best friends...I like my own space. Being away from the city wouldn't be a problem but having people other than my wife around for so long would be I think; A year is a long time...But $1 million dollars is a lot of money right?
Maybe if the three dishes were pasta, a nice garden salad and burgers, which I'd alternate daily, then maybe I could do it!
How about you? Would you be able to do it and what three dishes would you choose?

tokens. In a heartbeat. Start the clock.
I'm sure my friends would be absolutely crazy at the end of the year but who cares. Send the million and the mansion.
I can not believe that, it is something really that would be considered a project, but hey hahaha the mansion where you want it to give you the keys and the million dollars, but first things first come to Venezuela to and I take you to the challenge site
Absolutely I would relish the challenge and relish the reward even more. If I could not take my partner I don't think I could finish the whole year but as the rules state I can take her, it is all good and I would not hesitate especially for such a handsome reward.
Interesting question :)

My story
One of my hobbies is climbing mountains and in my country I have the opportunity to do it, in a weekend adventure we went to explore "La Piedra del Indio" our adventure lasted a whole day as we made several detours to make climbing more exciting , I relive a moment that generated a lot of adrenaline in me, when we got to the big stone I just wanted to be as close as possible and feel the breeze as it hit me and lose myself in the sight of those mountains, once there I turned around and with my arms up I yelled at my son, take a picture of me, my son trembling and far from me, he just kept repeating, stay away from there, you're going to fall.
Well, luckily you didn't fall and loved to tell the story. I think we all do dangerous things sometimes and fortunately most get to talk about it...Some don't though.
Thanks for commenting and I hope you have a great weekend.
I struggled with this "AMA" all night long...

So my tired, fried brain came up with this question.
Question:
What would you be doing with your time if Firearms did not exist. No easy outs either. Don't say archery or swordsmanship. What major hobby would you replace shooting with?
KrazzyTrukker Fun Fact...
I am a slot car guy, it is a hobby I have little to no time for. Maybe some day I will find the time? But not with this 100+ hour a week career that like a vampire, sucking the life force from me. Consuming, overwhelming, relentless...
Good question.
I'd do wood working, restoration of old stuff mainly I think, you know, pick up something that's old and needs a lift, restore it, recycle or up cycle. I have done a few things in my day, but only half-heartedly through lack of equipment which comes from lack of funds.
I think that's something Faith and I could do together as she enjoys that sort of thing too, has a good eye for it.
At some stage guns will take a back seat and I'll need to replace the time with something. To be honest this year has made me think a lot about it as we haven't been able to shoot that much due to the pandemic. I have been culling of course, I mean at the range.
So yeah, that's it. Something we could do together, find enjoyment in, satisfaction at the finished product.
I like slot cars. We had some second hand Scalextric track as kids, a couple cars...was fun. You probably get so little time for it...Change of job in the wind?
Probably a big negative on the career change. I maybe should have done that 10 years or so back. As age and health come into play at our age. Yes, I had to loop you in on the age comment "Old Man"... lol
I will make the best of the next 5-10 yrs. Till the autonomous trucks come in. And I want a nice prime mover to finish out in. To keep in good shape for some resale value when it is time to quit.
I sold my second truck to a man from mexico. Not every country will be advanced enough for auto trucks. So resale should be possible.
I am with you on the making old new again. I enjoy that with wood and metal. I am a trained welder. So I could do many things.
A response from another old man 😆
It never hurts to keep an eye out for what sort of jobs are open at any given time. Life is bizarre like that, it sometimes has a plan for us that we could not have foresaw until it happens.
I think by that time the bots will have taken a lot of our jobs!
Yeah, after I typed that comment I thought the same. Too late for us to pivot all that much. It is what it is.
Best to live our lives as best we can, enjoy ourselves when possible and be content. Discontent isn't a good thing to aim for.
Seems like a good plan, the autonomous vehicles will come along and take over eventually. Round out your career in a decent rig and then move it on to someone before retirement.
I can't weld, never done it. Would be a cool skill.
Hmm, my life expectancy...
Ok, so at 50.5 right now...I'd say 20-25 years if I am lucky.
It's a bit morbid to think about really but I don't shy away from the fact I will one day die. I am diabetic and so have a strong change of not living the full term through complications arising from that condition as time goes on. Then there's cancer etc. So, I don't know...Who really knows.
I don't think I want to die though, meaning I'm not ready yet, so it would be sad for me to have my life cut short, not that I'd have much of a say in it. I'm ready for it though. I have my affairs in order so that when I'm gone those that are left, my wife Faith, will not need to do much other than rejoice or grieve, whichever it is she will do.
One thing I know...I do not want her to go first...I would not cope without her and so I hope I go first. A selfish thought of course, one that means I'd avoid the pain of having to lose her.
Just on another note: I'm working on a list of who I'll come back and haunt after I'm gone. You know, move stuff in their houses, turn the water mains tap off when they're in the shower, sneak laxatives into their food...You know, all those things that will give me a big old laugh. It's a long list.
!ENGAGE 25
If you are being good by the time I make it to the other side you can be my mentor to help curb my devious haunting ways and set me on the path of righteousness. I'll not want to haunt people forever, just a while, have some fun. I'm sure there's other activities to do on the other side so maybe you can persuade me not to haint those I left behind. :)
I'm glad @galenkp finally answered this. I've been politely waiting rather than my normal poke my face right in the conversation.
I'm facing 70 for my next birthday. I NEVER thought I'd make 30 (I lived pretty fast) so I've now had 40 years of bonus play with my life. It's been fun.
I don't give two shits when I die. I hope to be able to live right up 'til the end. I ride a motorcycle a lot and I have long believed that there is a Buick with my name on the bumper. I haven't found it yet, or if I did it missed.
You see, I'm already way past my life expectation. So I just as well see what's over the next hill.
Good way to look at it I think. We're generally not aware of when it may come so might as well live as best we can right up to the point we can't. ✅
