Being a contributor to the SPK Network, I want to answer some questions people may have about the project. In addition, other members of the SPK Network may chime in as well, such as @starkerz co-founder of 3speak and the SPK Network lead devs @vaultec and @bobinson, so if you have any technical questions, please feel free to ask. The SPK Network consists of many contributors and is a community effort.
From my perspective, I'm happy we are getting to a place where we are making great progress and happy to share that with you all.
To spice things up, 3 questions will be chosen at random to win 30 Hive each. Good luck!
On Monday 5/17/21, 8:00 AM Pacific Time, some SPK Network contributors will be doing a live voice AMA in the SPK Network telegram: https://t.me/spknetwork
As a investor and someone wanting to learn more/ support the project how can I best do that at this phase of development?
Check out the Light Paper here: https://peakd.com/hive/@spknetwork/spk-network-light-paper
Join the relevant groups at the top of the white paper, that should keep you on top of things. also, watch the next video on dans blog (about to be released) which is our latest discussion on the SPK Netowork storage rewarding mechanism on hive)
Will SPK network have different crypto or coins? As with other platforms there are separate coins. Such as Dtube's DTC coins!
I really want to know how a content creator can have a good protagonism within the SPK network, I would love to use My 3Speak channel and videos to bring a lot of people to this awesome network as I've been doing right now with My blog.
So, basically, I have 2 questions:
What will be the token that a content creator should focus to have to become a great staker within creators in the SPK network?
The governance will be choosen with the same proof of stake that we have here in Hive?
Let's keep growing up! I'm a 3Speaker today and always!
Staking SPK will give you free BROCA. Stake enough SPK and you'll essentially have free uploads for life, like Hive and RCs.
Governance will be just like Hive. You stake your SPK tokens and vote for validators, proposals within the DAO, etc.
Cheers!
Thank you so much for the reply! I'm waiting really excited the SPK network not just to be a great stake-holder in there but also toe spread the voice for a lot of people here in Venezuela to join.
Let's keep growing up! Thank You for all the good work!
How do you think that SPK will synergize with HIVE, and in what ways do you hope to provide different utility than HIVE?
We think that SPK will be a proof of access storage model where things will be stored separately on a decentralised network which will fully integrate into hive. the content file lists will be recorded on hive and will therefore not require a complex blockchain mining system like with other decentralised storage systems, which will allow Hive to focus on text, its account system, communities, tokens, NTF metadata, and everything else that DPoS is excellent at doing
Awesome, thanks for the response! I will be following this project and looking forward to reading more about it.
SPK will use Hive to store CIDs in order for the PoA system to work. The token system will also be built on Hive. Account names, etc everything will be Hive based except the video and image storage. Basically, we will use Hive as our immutable ledger of truth as the skeleton that makes up the entire network. IPFS will be used for the storage of video/images/text. The unique thing about the SPK network is users can have permanent data and be able to delete that data from the network if they choose. In fact, they will be paid to delete older videos.
That's really interesting... appreciate the prompt reply! I'm quite intrigued as a content creator that has been very disappointed with my experience uploading videos to YouTube, to the point that I don't feel it's too worth my time to even do these days.
I prefer to do everything in 4K quality to future-proof it... unsure if this is viable using IPFS given the file size? But I have been strongly considering re-uploading all my content on ThreeSpeak eventually, just never got around to it so far.
There is no technical reason why this wouldn't be possible. 4K is somewhat of an arbitrary term which essentially means higher bitrate and higher resolution. The file size the more important thing to consider. IPFS can theoretically support practically unlimited file sizes. Now, the more relevant factors to consider are internet speed/how you will be hosting this data as it would determine the quality of playback for the end user.
That's what I mean by "viable."
Sure, but what I stated above in your reply is related to the infrastructure operating the IPFS nodes, not IPFS itself. Which we are working on ways to incentivize storage and network infrastructure.
Cool, I'm definitely interested in the particulars of that. In the past, my experiences with services using IPFS have been quite mixed — sometimes loading decently, often constantly buffering or unable to load. To be fair, it's been a long while since I've used any such services so I'm hopeful that some of the innovations you're talking about to incentivize storage (as well as even file deletion) could help get us closer to, say, the loading speed of mainstream services such as YouTube.

Look forward to seeing it there. other goals of ours are to make tools and distributed video network so good using hive and spk network, its a no brainer for other video platforms to start using it too. they will get the ability to store on ipfs, give their creators tokens, nfts, rewards system, account ownership, community ownership etc. all with very little dev work on the part of the platform
If we compare SPK to youtube, how SPK is better? Let's just ignore the decentralization because we are all aware of that.
By the way, I hope your team working on the uploading thing and about a smaller MB. It's really hard to upload especially if the connection is slow. Just like me located in a province part of the Philippines. The usage of the internet in uploading is something.
We think that youtube will run on the SPK Network. 3Speak also runs on the SPK Network.
I mean, I want to upload videos first in the 3spk. I don't like to copy the links because my youtube channel was made only to be posted in hive chain. What I'm thinking or asking if 3spk can upload videos smoothly even though the Internet connection is not that fast, only if possible.
You will be able to upload from the desktop app to the network while being offline/or on an unstable internet connection. Over a relatively short period of time your video will be synced with the network and fully playable to others.
Let me be more specific on what I exactly mean here. One of the main issues with the current website is the inability to resume uploading in the event of an internet outage. Ideally, with the desktop app you would be able to encode, and compose your video completely offline (not publishing, and making live to the network until online). Once online the user can publish their content to hive and sync their video via ipfs to public dedicated nodes for high throughput playback. Ipfs allows us to tolerate unstable internet connections. There are definitely going to be users with bad internet connections, so higher throughput servers/other nodes will need to pick up the slack.
As someone who has been following this project closely, mine is more a request than a question. A majority of people on Hive and outside doen't quite understand the interaction of the various tokens on the Speak Network. If we can have regular video/text turorials or explainers to help demystify all of that, people will have a feeling of ownership of the Speak network which will just compound interest. Thank you.

If you are good at videos and feel competent at your understanding of the SPK Network, please try submit a video or two about this subject and if they are good we will support
we are going to start putting more content up like this now that we have the scope and design completed
Where do you see yourself (SPK Network) in 5 years time?
if you are a hive owner, you are an owner in the SPK Network. Where do you see the SPK Network in 5 years?
True!
The Hive owners determine what SPK Network will be in years to come.
Thank you.
I am not a regular threespeak content creator, do I still benefit from this project because I have invested in hive ? Just tell me in few simple sentences, the light paper is not light.
You do.
Every month there's a screenshot of your HP/Hive tokens and based on that you'll receive broca utility token.
You will receive larynx miner tokens (not broca, broca is like hive resource credits)
My bad haha, was listening to the dev talk and I wrote what I heard at the time hahahhaha.
I know each of those tokens have their own utilities, incentives and advantages but couldn't there be a way to use less? I'm sure it can be extremely frustrating for a crypto newb to have to deal with with many coins for the same community.
I've been here for a while and I get discouraged by it at times.
As a normal user, you'll very likely only deal with BROCA. Platforms are encouraged to provide BROCA for their users via a BROCA delegation feature. I know personally I plan to continue building 3speak on the SPK Network to be that very easy to use web3 app where a user will not even know their using web3 tech.
Now that would be pretty sweet!
I'm not a video creator have never used 3 speak to upload or create a post since is not my thing videos, how would you say I can participate in the SPK network or how would it be beneficial to users like me.
The SPK claim drop is for all Hivers. You'll need to login to the SPEAK desktop app once a month to claim your free tokens for a total of 12 months.
I think that having an animated video that explains how the system works is by far most efficient way to educate investors and creators.
And it would be smart to share ama ion both Twitter, Torum etc.
Good idea, we plan to have marketing material ready to educate users, that goes for SPEAK and HIVE.
The more the Content Storage Nodes the faster it should get, right?
What happens in case there's only a few initial users that store the files on their hard drives, to which extent would it affect the speed?
In that case, we're actually acting as CDN edge servers?
Great news, what time is the AMA?
This Monday at 8am PST
What added value will the network bring to Hive?
it will be a decentralized, incentivized content storage system integrated with hive with many cool web 3 tools such as NFTs, SPEAK Bonds, DeFi pools, ability to spin up your own open sourced video platform etc. more details in the light paper here: https://peakd.com/hive/@spknetwork/spk-network-light-paper
¿This is a short or long term project and what proportion will the hive have ?
We are giving everything away. 3Speak team will not benefit anymore than anyone else. We will have to mine and compete on a level playing field with everyone else. LARYNX miner tokens will be distributed to all Hive and Hive power holders in a monthly claim drop
How do you plan to market it and do you intend to use the social media networks?
We have several large communities interested. We plan to market far and wide to as many as possible, that includes advertising on web2.
Lets see if you can get better than odysee/lbry
Posted using Dapplr
We invite lbry to join the SPK network. We will have a open platform that rewards storage miners. LBRY could get paid by doing what they are already doing simply by plugging into the SPK network.
