Hegseth was eventually confirmed with a 51-50 vote in the Senate.

Soon after he became secretary of defense, Hegseth joined President Trump in stripping away the security clearances of former staffers deemed who have previously been resistant to Republican leadership.

Among those who saw their clearance revoked was former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley, who was appointed during Trump’s first term but drew the president’s ire over a series of secret calls he made to China assuring them that the US was stable.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says Biden's IRS targeted him for an audit
“The party of ‘norms’ and ‘decency’ strikes again. We will never back down,” Hegseth said in a tweet.

Newly appointed Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth claims his family was targeted by the outgoing Biden administration with an audit from the IRS.

“Of course the outgoing Biden IRS rushed an ‘audit’ of the incoming SecDef. Total sham,” Hegseth wrote on his official X account Monday, including a photo of an IRS document addressed to him and his wife.

The document said the couple owes the government $33,558.16, which needs to be paid immediately to avoid further penalties.

“It was definitely discussed when I signed that I [would] play the position for a long time,’’ Devers said of his spot at third. “I don’t know what caused the change, but I know I work really hard on defense.”

Even this past offseason, Cora and Breslow indicated Devers would remain at third, but that was before they swooped in and signed Bregman last week.

And Devers added he was caught off guard by the conversation about the possibility of switching places with Bregman.

“I was definitely surprised,’’ Devers said. “I’m someone who believes in people’s word and take it to heart. It’s very surprising that they would suggest that.”

What is it that begins class development progress? Let’s go back to a primitive society, most likely nomadic, where there are no class distinctions. In the beginning, we see the rising of those who are able to use their exceptional qualities to gain influence over other men. The most obvious examples are physical strength and leadership, which are critical in time of war. Every tribe has to protect itself and fight other tribes for dominance. It may lose if weak or win if strong. The leaders on the winning side earn admiration and move into a “class by themselves”. When they have become separated of from others based on perceived status, we have the beginning of a class system. The leader’s trophies of war serve as physical reminders for others who is superior.

I think determining the beginning of class in human society maybe difficult. For example, in Igbo land, first son and daughter are given some preferential treatments. Men are considered superior to women and so on.

Aristotle said, “For that some should rule and other be ruled is a thing not only necessary, but expedient; from the hour of their birth some are marked out for subjection, others for rule.”

This reality will work against reformers who attempt to abolish the social classes and make us all equal. As Landtman points out, the irony of class leveling is that the most primitive societies have class equality inherent in their structure, but the more developed a society becomes, the more difficult it is to break down class distinctions.

So, we will dedicate a couple of posts to discussing Landtman’s work. Why? Because the ancient societies developed via the dynamics Landtman describes. Understanding these dynamics not only gives us a view into the early political systems, but also describes what we see in society today. The forward motion of any culture and its political system is constrained by the inherent nature of human beings. If you take geography, climate, and natural resources as catalysts, mix in a large group of people, you get a culture that reflects the character of the environment experienced through those people. One need only reflect on the deserts surrounding Egypt, the mountains of Greece, or the inland position of Rome to understand this.

The Toronto airport was already expecting a busy day and a storm that dumped more than 8 inches of snow on the region, with an expected 130,000 travelers on board around 1,000 flights, according to the airport.

The accident comes on the heels of a fatal midair collision in January at Washington D.C.'s Reagan International Airport, which killed all 64 people on the American Airlines regional jet and another three people on board an Army Black Hawk helicopter.

The Federal Aviation Administration was also recently hit by layoffs spearheaded by President Donald Trump and Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency, with several hundred air traffic controllers receiving firing notices over the weekend.

Frankie Montas shut down for significant stretch in Mets’ first spring training blow

PORT ST. LUCIE – The Mets are dealing with their first hit to their starting rotation this year.

Offseason acquisition Frankie Montas is being shut down for six to eight weeks with a high-grade lat strain, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza announced Monday.

The Post first reported that Montas had a lat injury that would sideline him for a significant stretch.

Montas arrived to the Mets on a two-year contract worth $34 million, which includes an opt-out after the first season.

The Mets’ rotation depth includes Tylor Megill and Paul Blackburn, who is returning from offseason surgery to repair a leak of spinal fluid.
