Why I stopped drinking coffee and you maybe should too

Say no to your next cup of Joe 🚫☕️

Joe is a slang name for “the common man”, such as the term "Average Joe" The first usage of “Joe” in this instance appeared in the English lexicon around 1846. Hence, a “cup of Joe” is the “common man’s drink. Source

Coffee has been popularized in a big way. Even kids are drinking it these days, but is that a bad thing? That is exactly what I have decided to discuss in today's video.

There are 5 Starbucks coffee shops within 15 minutes of where I live, so I know there will be a lot of coffee lovers who hate this video. Too bad, I'm allowed to have my own opinion. Although I have downed a lot of coffee in my adult life, I am proud to say that I haven't consumed any at all in many months.

Some say that avoiding coffee is too hard. It gives them energy, suppresses their appetite, or they simply love the taste. The taste part I can get with maybe, but caffeine really just puts the body into stress mode and that's not real energy. It's more of just an increase in your heart rate, which may make you feel more awake. In the long run, it is a terrible way to feel energetic and will lead to problems eventually, even if not quickly.

As for appetite suppressants, you really shouldn't ever need something like that if you are eating your natural diet and are healthy, but most people aren't of course. This means that the average person always feels tired and coffee seems like the only thing that can get them through the day. Especially when most people are sleep-deprived, much like I used to be when I worked nights. It truly is a sad predicament in terms of the overall health of the world right now.

Also, coffee beans are actually just seeds. If you really know what's going on, you'll understand that seeds are terrible for human consumption. I used to be in the camp that believed the total opposite and I was convinced that was the truth too. Later, I found out that seeds simply do not agree with our bodies and are some of the worst things you could put inside yourself. It's even worse when you turn that seed into liquid and are guaranteed to absorb any toxins that are within it, à la coffee.

If you're still reading this, then you must be at least a little curious about whether coffee is actually something humans should be drinking. I invite you to watch my video and see what I have to say. I've certainly had my fair share of experiences with coffee, but I'm not claiming to be an expert either.

After watching my video, I'd like to recommend a great YouTuber that you should check out. His channel name is Goatis and basically, he does reaction videos breaking down all of the terrible things about these so-called "health influencer" diets. It's pretty remarkable information and also quite entertaining since he's blunt and hilarious.

I'll link this video where he specifically goes in on a girl who drinks a ton of coffee since she is always so lethargic thanks to her diet of extreme malnourishment. It's sad to see people doing to themselves, but it's great that Goatis is finding a way to alert people of all of these bad decisions many are making for their bodies.

Alright, that's it for the blog portion of this. Go back to the top of this post and watch my video now if you haven't done so already. Then go check out Goatis and maybe you'll start watching him regularly and learn some harsh truths.

Thanks for stopping by!

I truly love coffee and won't part with it unless I have to, but this is completely correct. So many people rely on it to make them feel more alive, incapable of understanding that it isn't really helping them but acting as a mere substitute for something else the body is in fact desperately asking for instead.

With coffee I have a very specific routine: I'll have it in the morning, and if that cup ends up being made terribly I will make another to replace it, but once the clock hits 2PM, that's it. No more. From there I switch to water. I drink so much water and eat so much fruit that the two are mostly what I consume. Ever since I started to improve that area of my diet, I felt more alive than ever before. Coffee did (and does) nothing, it's just a simple part of my morning routine that is nothing more than mere enjoyment.

I think the average person fills their body with such trash that it is no surprise that they're fatigued or incapable of maintaining a healthy weight. The boom in food apps (the fact that there are apps for things like McDonalds genuinely sickens me) and delivery foods has caused people to completely forget about balancing diet and eating healthy foods. It's so easy to have someone bring something to you that they forget that the best things to consume are the things prepared from home, fresh.

I loved coffee at one point too, but it seems that love has waned. It’s easy for me to forget about something as nonessential as coffee, especially once I really started thinking about whether it was ideal for me to keep consuming.

It’s good that you at least set a limit for when you can drink coffee and how much. I ache for those that drink coffee in the evening and expect to get decent rest.

As for fruit, I love it so much. I try to stick to fruits with thick outer layers because they tend to have the least amount of pesticides. So I consume a lot of things like cantaloupe, pineapple, dragonfruit, and oranges. One of my weaknesses is strawberries, which sadly even the organic strawberries are usually soaked in pesticides. Somehow they still taste amazing.

You make some great points in your comment. I very much appreciate your valuable input on this topic.

It’s easy for me to forget about something as nonessential as coffee, especially once I really started thinking about whether it was ideal for me to keep consuming.

I'm like that with many other things. Sugar, for example: I avoid it. I have zero interest in sugary things. I have nothing to gain from it. I don't know about there but here on food products we have nutritional information printed on the packaging, very easy to see. It'll highlight certain areas based on what's in it: green for good, orange for "Yeah probably not great" and read for "You probably should just avoid eating this." The amount of products that contain so many horrible things you just don't need is crazy. And if you do avoid those things, you notice a massive improvement in general well-being.

I now struggle to eat things heavy carbs or rather dense foods that are fatty, I feel the same. I feel nasty, all heavy and unhealthy.

I do have periods where I'll drop coffee for a while, but it isn't like an intentional detox or anything, it just happens. I know I don't need it. And I know that if my body isn't feeling great, there will be reasons behind it that must be addressed: lack of sleep, poor nutrition, perhaps too much coffee and not enough of the good stuff.

In the UK we have a very good organic selection when it comes to food. Our food standards is one of the few things I will gladly praise about this place. It isn't too expensive, either. The quality to price is absolutely worth it over the normal types you find in most supermarkets.

If you have the space, I absolutely recommend getting your own little set of produce growing. Where I'm at, I have the space (nothing too big) to grow pretty much anything, and I do. It's not only a really rewarding little experience to be a bit more independent, but feels great to see that development of fruit and vegetables that you know are free of any poison. I've actually got some strawberries, blackberries, cabbage, and leek which grow every year in the garden. There's some other things but I can't even remember their names.

We have nutritional info on our products here, but often it is very misleading. We have a major problem with words that make bad products seem healthy. Health buzzwords including “organic,” “antioxidant,” and “gluten-free” often trick consumers into thinking a company’s product is more nutritious than it actually is and creates a false sense of health. Sometimes organic stuff here is good, but sometimes it's still just junk. We certainly don't have the good and bad ingredients highlighted in a color code. I wish it were that easy here, but it's as if they want us to get sick and die early. Oh wait, I'm pretty sure that's the goal.

As long as you continue to be mindful of how you treat your body, surely a little bit of coffee won't be the end of your world.

As for growing my own vegetables, I have zero desire to do that. Fruit however I'd be into, but my current downtown living space simply would not allow it. Plus I think I'd be more likely to have a farm with animals, although that would be even more difficult to do. I really don't eat hardly any vegetables anymore. Mostly just muscle meat, organs, and other animal products such as real dairy. Of course, they make it incredibly difficult to purchase raw dairy here too. It's blasphemous.

... it's as if they want us to get sick and die early. Oh wait, I'm pretty sure that's the goal.

I mean, a healthy patient isn't really a paying patient. :^)

I don't drink coffee, it increases a person's stress and reduces the power of memory by destroying cells. Caffeine is an addiction. And any drink or food that a person can't avoid it, he should ask why?.

BOOM! You know what's up. Increased stress is a major no no for me. I enjoy as close to a stress free lifestyle as possible. I also wish to keep my memory in good shape for many more years.

It's hard for some to admit, but caffeine (and sugar) is certainly something that should be in the same conversation of some prescription drugs. I'm not saying caffeine is as bad as say heroine, but the fact that caffeine and sugar are pushed so hard to be okay for you is definitely a bit concerning.

I love coffee with almond milk, but I'm not that one that drinks more than two cups in the morning. I usually only get time to one. My appetite is always good too, even tho I'm ill. I have no problem to drink tea instead, and I actually drink that in periods just because I'm tired of coffee. I'm not addicted to coffee because I can drink a cup, and fall asleep right after. I'm not joking.

I love variations too, and that may be the reason. A glass of orange juice or apple will actually wake you up in the morning, but I cant drink that. I have never drank any energy drinks in my life, except Redbull vodka when I was in my party period when I was 21. And I don't drink much soda either, so I hope I'm good :D

But this is me, and I'm agree what your message is. I know people that drink 8-10 cups in a day, and that is disturbing. And they usually eat a lot of junk and food in general that don't give them any energy. I think those have a connection to each other. One girl at my class asked the teacher why she was tired all the time. She sat in every class eating candy, drinking cola/energy drinks and didn't eat anything healthy at all. She was really skinny too, and she ate that because she wanted to gain weight. But that is a problem too, because inside of her body she was definitely unhealthy and had the same health issues as "those who are overweight" even tho she was skinny.

Hmm.. why almond milk instead of raw cow/goat milk?

You must fall asleep easily no matter what. I could never drink a cup right before bed.

Skipping out on energy drinks is a huge win. Those things are far worse than any little bit of coffee ever thought of being.

We humans can handle pretty much anything in moderation, even hard drugs. If one cup of coffee a day makes you happy, drink that coffee I say.

That poor girl from your class. She probably had zero real nutrition teachings ever, that or she simply enjoyed being a human trash can. Being skinny ain’t everything. I feel healthier now with extra fat on my body than I did when I was super skinny and 22kg lighter.

I like cow milk, but my stomach doesn't. Almond milk also have less calories than milk and it also have lower saturated fat. Almond milk doesn't have much proteins than milk, and that is a bummer. But the almond milk I'm drinking also have a lot of calcium. But I actually started with it because my stomach didn't like it.

My mom never let me have any energy drinks when I was younger, and my parents have always had a focus on eating healthy and work out. It's from them I have learned why we should be healthy. And I guess the girl from my class didn't have any parents that guided her and showed her the benefits of eating healthy food.

Have you tried raw goat milk? I wouldn’t recommend pasteurized milk of any kind since all of the enzymes for digestion are destroyed in that heating process. Goat does taste noticeably different than cow, but it’s naturally lactose free. I used to drink almond and oat milk, but I despise both now that I’ve learned about raw milk.

Scratch that recommendation. I decided to do a search on the legality of raw milk in Norway. Looks like it’s illegal 😫 I’m sure it’s still possible to get, but definitely not easy. Here in the USA some states are legal and some aren’t. Where I live you have to have these things called herd shares (aka partial ownership of the animal), which are very annoying to setup. I’d much rather just go to the store and be able to buy what I like with no government stopping me.

Sounds like you have amazing parents. We are both lucky in that regard.

Sometimes I drink coffee for the taste, but only if it's with milk. Sorry, coffee lovers! Coffee is also addictive because it contains caffeine. You should also know that eating an apple in the morning will wake you up faster than a cup of coffee. Just try it and you'll thank me later.

It's weird for me... as much as I love milk and used to love coffee, I never really mixed the two. Sure a milky coffee tastes amazing too, but I always prefered to keep the two distinct flavors separate. That's just me of course.

Pretty much any fruit is going to be a better way to start your day than coffee. Nothing can replace a good nights sleep though. I start my day with raw eggs and fruit. Then after a bit of work I cook myself a very fulfilling breakfast of steak with some yogurt. I feel like you probably already knew this last part though 😜

Yes, you talked about it a lot in your holiday articles 😂. I think you should give coffee with milk a chance, man. It's worth a try.

Oh, I've tried it and know it can be yummy. I have also tried it with Baileys Irish Cream back in my alcohol days. It's actually pretty tasty.

I decide create videos with this style, I want to walk around record a video with my shit. I hope it doesn't bother you, it's not plagiarism, it's a good influence 😅

BTW I love coffee, but I know what you talking about. And I'm reducing my dose and drinking more tea.

That doesn't bother me at all, I think it's pretty awesome actually. I'm happy to know that my videos have motivated you to do your own like this. I think that it's a great habit. If you're somebody who loves to talk and has a lot to say, then you're really going to enjoy creating videos.

Thank you a lot man!! I really appreciate it!

This is true. It is sad to see young men and women suffering from coffee addiction, as it destroys their health, especially since many also suffer from other diseases due to malnutrition. Now commerce is more important than human health.

There are far worse addictions in this world, but excessive caffeine intake is certainly something to take into consideration.

You bring up another sad truth. Making money and keeping production of everything (often times harmful products) seems to be far more important to society than actual health. It's crazy because literally none of this stuff would exist if we all croaked and died due to something like long term malnourishment.

I've been feeling like I want to ditch coffee and possibly caffeine altogether for a long time. I often run low on sleep due to my schedule, and I use coffee as a crutch to kickstart myself in the morning, and obviously the healthier thing to do is just get more rest.

That's still not possible yet, but hopefully my daily routine gets less extreme in the next few months and I can experiment with it abstaining. I once gave up salt for a week, and my foods were really hard to eat, especially the Indian food I mostly make. Funny though, on the 4th day the food began to taste normal-ish again.

I really hope you can get to a point where more rest is possible. It will surely take a lot of effort to get there, but once you do… quitting coffee is easy.

Our taste buds have been altered so much, it takes awhile to get back to enjoying plain foods. Even then, it’s hard to forget the memory of how good this or that tasted in the past.

No! I could stop anytime I want to.. 😂

u know, i didn't used to drink coffee at all really, until I went to philippines to meet my wife. Over here we have a few brands to choose from and a few different flavors.

Over there they have coffee in little packs with the sugar and creamer already mixed in the pack and u just do 1 per cup and its all easy and disposale. and the variety.. about 20 different flavors at least.

this my favorite..

i do cold brew and why do i drink it? it tastes fricken good and IMO its about the cheapest grab and bring to my pc while i trade and wakes me up as i make the big bucks!! :P

That sounds incredibly convenient. It would be hard to resist something like that indeed. I can’t deny that it tastes good, I learned to love it after a short while.

Hey man, if you love it, drink the shit out of it. If I tried to encourage you personally to stop doing something that you love, I’d be a pretty crappy human being.

its all good. i appreciate the wisdom and also..

I CAN QUIT AT ANYTIME I WANT!! :P (sure)

I used to like instant coffee usually adding more sugar or milk or even choco powder in it. I used to go crazy with coffee. Then I transitioned to just drinking black and that is what I have been doing for years. I can't say I'm an addict but I just like the taste of it. I could drink a lot in a day or none at all. Sometimes I'll just go with hot/warm water. Drinking coffee actually makes me sleepy lol!

There are so many information out there that it really is up to us what to believe. I eat seeds, beans, legumes, vegetables, meat and anything else sometimes I am on sugar binge eating lol! I can't say I'm that healthy but thankfully I haven't had a visit to the doctor or had been sick for so long now. It's your body. It's your choice. I think however you want to treat your body, then so be it.

I agree with you that black coffee does taste really good. I could easily be drinking it still, but luckily don't crave it enough to push myself to brew any.

As for all the info out there, you are right... it can be very overwhelming. I firmly believe in your body your choice. I just wish we had more definite health info, it feels like they are trying to make it so difficult for us to live long and healthy lives.

Indeed. These so called experts would be coming up with new studies all the time debunking/re-affirming things that we know it's confusing lol!

Guilty as charged and you're spot on of course

Thanks for the reminder, confirmation and links

At least you can admit it. Coffee isn't going to kill you overnight and it may not kill you ever. But I'd rather increase my chances of feeling great at an old age. Sometimes love can be destructive and that's definitely not the worst thing in this world.

Too much of anything can make you sick I guess

And love... well... it depends what kind of "love"

But boy do I hear you 👍

Usually I drink cappuccino in the morning, which mostly help me to not fall asleep in work. But not always. Sometimes I drink two or three cups of cappuccino, but I still feel tired, and I could still easily fall asleep. Rarely I indeed fall asleep in work. I read that cappuccino is an espresso-based coffee drink, but I currently do not know how strong it is.

I used to be so sleepy at my old job too. I even fell asleep a few times. It was always because I was severely sleep deprived.

I have a few questions for you…

  • During what hours do you sleep?
  • Do you wake up often while sleeping?

During what hours do you sleep?

This varies. Often after midnight. Usually (on the weekdays) until 05:30.

Do you wake up often while sleeping?

Usually not. Mostly if I fall asleep, I sleep until I wake up. Either on my own, or by the alarm clock on my phone.

That is not much sleep at all. Have you considered getting 7-8 hours? I don't think anything more than that is needed, but I used to feel terrible when I only slept 4-6 hours each day. I was someone who always was up past midnight, often late into the morning. Not anymore. Always asleep before midnight now, usually closer to 10 or 11.

I know that the normal sleep would be 7-8 hours, but often I simply cannot sleep. I do not know why. And somehow I often think more in the evening/night than in the other parts of the day.

We are all entitled to our own opinion and I believe not everyone will like coffee likewise not everyone will hate it as well. As for me am not a coffee freak but I just like it because of it taste

I can remember countless times that I enjoyed that first sip of a coffee tremendously. It does something for the taste buds for sure. Meanwhile it is doing other things to our body that we may not always be aware of.

My friend, everyone has their own way of thinking and no one can influence another person. For my part, I really like coffee, but I respect a lot those who don't like it or for health reasons don't consume it anymore. Everyone is respectable and we must learn to live with all opinions

I like coffee too, but I believe that my body would rather not have to attempt to process it.

if it's for medicinal reasons then you shouldn't take it even if you wanted to

all opinions are respectable friend there are those who like it and those who don't

Nice write up. Personally for me, when I take coffee, I usually get mild tummy upset so I rarely take it....even the nescafe 3 in 1 too

I appreciate it! It's probably best that you continue to avoid coffee as much as possible if it doesn't make you feel the greatest. Listen to your body, it knows what it needs.
