I've been seeing @selfhelp4trolls building community by creating YouTube shorts and I just love those users who are dedicated with their own projects.

I'm always getting inspired by them that make me think of building my own. I've been running my website since 2022 and not getting any traffic from it due to inconsistency and paralysis analysis.

Maybe I should start for real, I have to renew my domain and hosting soon 😆

I won't leave Hive and InLeo of course, my website is just more for a professional side of myself while Hive is more on my personal life.

However, I've been thinking of a lot of things lately and wants to try more things at once but let's not deny it, our time isn't enough to try everything.

How I wish we have more than 24 hrs in a day!

Maybe one step at a time, build soft skills.

How about you? Do you experience the same? How do you cope up with it?

#freecompliments #life

Lions meed to start thinking of their account and username as a brand that needs attention in order to monetize

The days of just getting autovoters is over

Now we have referrals and creator subs

Time to level up in my opinion

We all need to do it on an individual level

Thanks, I want to start my creator subs but I'm still in a phase of not having to share for now and looking for what is it, exploring more things and getting to know myself and so I can offer something to everyone that makes their $HBD worth it.

I'm building my brand on Hive and it's just a start. Being a #premium is one of the signs and best decisions that I made on the platform so far.

thanks for the shoutout!

I think al of us at hive should have other stuff going on in our lives and other creative or business pursuits. I think too many people thought hive and crypto was gonna solve all their problems if they waited long enough but they didn’t really improve or build anything, or if they did build something, it was just only this tiny island of ours and not connected to anything.

The only problem is that some people get busy with other things and disappear.

I’m used to having a bunch of projects, I write novels, I play music, I make podcasts and videos. But I don’t find it hard to balance all these things because I am just doing what I want to do! All of this is what excites me in the moment. So I take a break from novels and music for a year to make videos. Now I’m doing fewer videos so I can get back into music, but I’m recycling old videos into shorts so I still have an even greater output than before 😀

What kind of website?

I always feel that having a lot of interest i just stopping me from doing anything more productive. It stop me from really doing something.

I guess I have to stick to something that could give fun to myself while earning and building something.

And yeah, I would agree that we should also think outside the box and try new more things to grow.

What kind of website?

It's a personal website under my name, my initial plan was to use it as my portfolio but as time passes by I want to monetize it but I always feel lazy making research for content and SEO.

My plan now is to re-publish content from Hive to my website and vice versa just for the sake of repurposing but the problem is I don't think I will reach readers if I will post personal blogs just like what I do on Hive.

I think following the plan can be overrated. If you get really excited, you just do work and it doesn’t feel like work.

So I just ask myself, what would be exciting right now? And I do it. And a lot of times the first few minutes is hard so that’s the only time I push myself.

What would make you excited the most right now? I mean like today or next time you have free time? Moving your posts to the website?

What makes me excited is to see the progress of my website. It's like milking my pocket for domain renewal and never got any monetary value from it since from the very start and I want to flip it into a profitable website (at least)

then get excited and do it!!!! I am doing something similar at Substack, posting all my old stuff there. Basically I’m in recycle mode, finding nice and powerful ways to recycle all my old work because it’s less intense so I can start working on new work without having to hibernate to focus on it 100%

Are your content more likely a personal blog or informative?

I read that in Bolivia, a group of armed people took over a military base and held over 200 soldiers captive. The government says this group might be linked to former president Evo Morales, which could explain why this is happening during election tensions. It’s a messy situation, and people there must be stressed.

Musician Tyka Nelson, Prince's sister and only full sibling, dies at 64

https://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory/minneapolis-musician-tyka-nelson-princes-sister-full-sibling-115532735

NEW YORK -- Minneapolis musician Tyka Nelson, Prince's only full sibling, died Monday at North Memorial Health in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, her son President Nelson confirmed to The Associated Press. She was 64.

#abcnews #leoentertainment #newsonleo

A cause of death was not immediately available, and President Nelson said he doesn't expect to know “for a couple of days.”

Born to jazz musician John L. Nelson and Mattie Della Shaw in 1960, two years after Prince, Nelson was a singer-songwriter, releasing four albums across her career, starting with 1988's “Royal Blue." That album produced her biggest hits, “Marc Anthony’s Tune,” which spent 11 weeks on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, peaking at No. 33, and “L.O.V.E.," which spent seven weeks on the chart and topped at No. 52.

At the time, she told the Star Tribune of Minneapolis, “The album is basically about love relationships between a man and a woman. I’m royal blue because I can’t find him,” she said.

It's an alternative to her brother's chosen color of purple. Of their relationship, she said: “The funniest thing is people say, ‘How does it feel to be Prince’s sister?’ They don’t actually realize what they’re saying. I’ve been Prince’s sister ever since I got here on Earth.”

The Associated Press described her “Royal Blue” album as "mostly adult-contemporary or easy-listening" material, “far removed from Prince and the so-called Minneapolis sound. Hers is a mature, romantic sound aimed at 25- to 45-year-olds.”

Then came 1992's “Yellow Moon, Red Sky,” 2008's “A Brand New Me,” and finally, 2011's “Hustler.”

Nelson is survived by two sons, President and Sir, and five grandchildren.

“Born 1960, the daughter of Mattie and John Nelson, she was best known as Prince’s sister and worked to keep his legacy alive with his fans attending fan and industry events,” President Nelson shared in a statement. “Services will be private, and in lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you take care of one another.”

According to the Star Tribune, Nelson was scheduled to retire and perform a farewell concert at the Dakota in downtown Minneapolis in June. Illness caused her not to take the stage. A few days before the concert, she said she had a mixtape on the way and was working on a memoir.

Prince died of an accidental fentanyl overdose in 2016 at his home in Minneapolis. He was 57. He had no will, and his six siblings inherited equal interests in the estate: Tyka Nelson and five half-siblings — Sharon Nelson, Norrine Nelson, John R. Nelson, Omarr Baker and Alfred Jackson.

Tyka Nelson, Baker and Jackson, the three youngest, sold their stake to a music publishing company called Primary Wave Music, LLC, which later assigned its interests to an affiliate, Prince OAT Holdings LLC. Jackson has since died.

Representatives for Paisley Park, Prince’s private estate which is also a museum, studio, and concert venue in Chanhassen, Minnesota, did not immediately respond to The Associated Press' request for comment.

The church of Saint-Sulpice in Paris shines in an immersive light show

https://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory/church-saint-sulpice-paris-shines-immersive-light-show-115517246

PARIS -- As dusk falls over the City of Light, a new spectacle is illuminating Saint-Sulpice church, a monument whose interiors are even larger than Notre Dame's — and arguably just as breathtaking.

The cavernous walls of the neoclassical gem on Paris' Left Bank are coming alive with 360-degree video projections, sparkling cutting-edge technology and actors, all telling the story of the church and its place in French history.

#newsonleo #leoentertainment #newsonleo

Blending centuries of intrigue, revolution and family drama, the show reimagines the Saint-Germain district during the Fronde, the 17th-century civil war, and the lead-up to the French Revolution.

“Paris Cœur de Lumières” (Paris Chancel of Lights), which runs until Nov. 23, transforms the church’s sprawling 6,000-square-meter (65,000-square-foot) interior into a digital stage through advanced video mapping.

“From a technological standpoint, it’s a laser scan of the entire building that allows us to reconstruct the space in three dimensions,” director Damien Fontaine explained.

“We then ‘unfold’ it like origami ... and put it back into 3D to be projected as a single unified image. We have over 45 projectors, each covering a part of the vaults, a section of a pillar, or a piece of the nave. It’s ... a mosaic of images to form one large picture.”

Projections transform stone carvings into animated storytellers, while immersive soundscapes, paired with an original score, wrap the audience in a sensory experience.

The actors brought history to life. Over 350 performers and volunteers, clad in more than 500 historical costumes, move among the audience portraying local families and rivalries, threading personal narratives into the broader history.

Many of those who volunteered themselves marveled at learning about little known aspects of French history.

Anne Dubosc, a 65-year-old amateur actress, played Anne of Austria, mother of Sun King Louis XIV.

“She was a remarkable woman, very involved in politics and religion,” Dubosc said. “I hadn’t realized how important she was. If Louis XIV became the man he was, it was partly thanks to this woman, this mother who was like a tigress, doing everything to protect her son and teaching him to be a great statesman.”

Performing in Saint-Sulpice, she added, was extraordinary: “It’s exceptional. You lose track of what’s happening, of where fiction ends and history begins.”

Her historic costume shaped her performance — literally.

“I have a corset that squeezes me so tightly,” she said. “You realize there’s a very 18th-century way of holding yourself, of carrying your shoulders and neck, which gives a natural majesty. The costume really impacts how you carry your body, and that posture influences your mind, giving character to this woman of state.”

The production underscored a growing trend in Paris of using light technology to show off the city's storied church interiors. A similar illuminations display took place at Saint-Eustache church until September, featuring video projections, lighting effects and spatialized electronic soundtrack.

Nintendo reports lower profits as demand drops for its aging Switch console

https://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory/nintendo-reports-lower-profits-demand-drops-aging-switch-115505612

TOKYO -- Nintendo, the Japanese video game maker behind the Super Mario franchise, said Tuesday that its profit fell 60% in the first half of the fiscal year, as demand waned for its Switch console, now in its eighth year since going on sale.

Kyoto-based Nintendo Co. reported a 108.7 billion yen ($715 million) profit for the April-September period, as sales slipped 34% from the previous year to 523 billion yen ($3.4 billion).

#newsonleo #abcnews #leoentertainment

More than 74% of its sales revenue came from overseas, according to Nintendo, which didn’t break down quarterly numbers.

Global Switch sales during the period dropped to 4.7 million machines from 6.8 million units the previous year.

But Nintendo said in a statement that Switch sales were still growing and vowed to stick to its goal of selling a Switch console to each and every individual, not just one Switch per every household.

Nintendo stuck to its earlier projection for a 300 billion yen ($2 billion) profit for the full fiscal year through March 2025, down nearly 29% from the previous fiscal year.

Annual sales were forecast to drop 23% to1.28 trillion yen ($8.4 billion).

It also lowered its Switch sales projection for the fiscal year to 12.5 million units from an earlier forecast to sell 13.5 million.

Nintendo and other game and toy makers rake in their biggest profits during the Christmas shopping season, as well as New Year’s, a holiday celebrated with fanfare in Japan, when children receive cash gifts from grandparents and other relatives.

Nintendo has not yet announced details on a successor to the Switch.

Among its million-seller game software titles for the fiscal half were “Paper Mario RPG,” which sold 1.95 million units since going on sale in May, and “Luigi Mansion 2 HD,” hitting nearly 1.6 million in sales.

Overall, more than 70 million Switch games were sold during the period, for a total of nine titles that became million-sellers, including products from third-party manufacturers, or makers that aren’t Nintendo.

Still, that was down from more than 97 million games sold the previous year.

The release of a Super Mario Brothers movie lifted sales in the previous fiscal year, while the absence of such a movie this fiscal year negatively impacted the latest results, Nintendo said. Revenue also declined in its mobile-game offerings and IP-related businesses, it said.

On the night before Election Day, Kamala Harris brings in celebrities. Donald Trump is unimpressed

https://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory/night-election-day-kamala-harris-brings-celebrities-donald-115495358

On the night before Election Day, at campaign events across the country, celebrities including Oprah Winfrey, Lady Gaga and Jon Bon Jovi turned out in force for Kamala Harris' presidential bid.

#leoentertainment #newsonleo #abcnews

The battleground state of Pennsylvania was particularly starry: In Pittsburgh, the vice president's rally featured Cedric the Entertainer, Katy Perry and Andra Day. In Philadelphia, the finale of Harris' daylong dash across Pennsylvania, performers and presenters included DJ Cassidy, Fat Joe and Ricky Martin, while Gaga sang a soulful “God Bless America” and Winfrey brought first-time voters to the stage.

Republican Donald Trump was decidedly unimpressed with Harris' celebrity lineup.

At his own rally in Pittsburgh, which overlapped with Harris' event in the city, the former president criticized Harris for one celebrity endorsement in particular: Beyoncé. He spoke dismissively about Beyoncé’s appearance at a Harris rally with Harris in Houston last month, drawing boos for the megastar from his supporters.

"Beyoncé would come in. Everyone’s expecting a couple of songs. There were no songs. There was no happiness,” Trump said.

Beyoncé did not perform at the event but was joined onstage by her Destiny’s Child bandmate Kelly Rowland, and gave a joyful, impassioned speech met with cheers.

Previously, Beyoncé allowed the Harris campaign to take on her 2016 track “Freedom,” a cut from her landmark 2016 album “Lemonade,” as its anthem.

Trump added that Harris should have learned a lesson from Hillary Clinton and had Beyoncé speak after her, saying, “That way the people stay.”

In 2016, Beyoncé performed at a campaign event for Democratic nominee Clinton in Cleveland in the days leading up to the election.

“They booed like hell, but the press didn’t play that,” Trump continued in his description of Beyoncé's appearance at the Harris event.

He insisted his campaign doesn't need celebrities to pack in a crowd, adding: "We don’t need a star because we have policy. We have great policy.”

At another point in the same rally, though, he enthused: "So many celebrities here, it’s incredible: Mike Pompeo, please stand up,” introducing his former secretary of state.

Trump also was joined by Megyn Kelly and baseball star Roberto Clemente’s son.

Harris lined up performers to speak and play at campaign rallies in all seven battleground states on Monday, and melded them all into one Democratic get-out-the-vote livestream.

In Las Vegas, performers included Christina Aguilera and electro-dance duo Sofi Tukker
. In Raleigh, North Carolina, Sugarland, the country music duo of Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush, took the stage.

In Detroit, performers included Jon Bon Jovi, who sang a quiet acoustic version of his band's working-class anthem “Livin' on a Prayer.”

INLEO announced the team will be working on LEODEX to speed up @dashpay integration. New IRL ways to spend your threads earnings methinks.

NICE! I think its something that would make me use LEODEX way more than just use POLY for example.

I tried using it, but it's not ready yet. I made a tutorial on how to swap HIVE to BTC, but it wasn't fast, it wasn't cheap and it wasn't easy.

https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@alex-rourke/how-to-swap-from-btc-to-hive-with-leodex-cpe

Yep, that's why currently I use POLY (old MATIC)

Definitely. Auto-cashout to your Dash wallet, which you can then privately spend on lots of things: bills, groceries, everything.

Bought another 15k $LEO yesterday after watching @khal's AMA. As I've said before, in my mind, it's not a matter of if anymore, but wen. Approaching Apex Lion status. Less than 10k to go. The theory of "if you build it, they will come" is being played out before our eyes. It continues to be built, and they are coming. LFG!!! #inleo #crypto

Congrats and hope you get to Apex Lion status soon.
Have a good day :)

Since 3speak is still down, I decided to build another type of bot in the meantime. This one will summarize youtube videos automatically and post them as thread responses.

I got the individual pieces working last night - the bot that listens for commands and the summarization part. Now I just need to put them together. Hopefully I'll be able to get this live this evening already.

This will make it a lot more convenient for us to add data from youtube to the #database.

This is pretty cool 👏👏👏, you are doing a great job bro....
I always appreciate you activities ☺️☺️☺️

Appreciate the encouragement! It's a simple idea yet a powerful feature

Good luck on the new bot buddy.

thanks! Got no time to work on it yesterday, but this entire afternoon is set aside for it. Hoping to have it production ready before I go to bed

Did you know INLEO does about 30% of ALL comments on the HIVE blockchain?

Learned that in the AMA.

That's a lot of activity. With Dash, V2 and other improvements this percentage could easily increase to 42.069%

I'm surprised it isn't higher.

So cool to hear! Lions together strong :D

my goodnight this community is doing so well, so that means it's getting close to have their entire Hive Blockchain wow that's impressive

It's YOUR blockchain too fren.

amazing, just amazing proud to be here

But it doesn't have 30% of the value

I meant INLEO threads from the people who use it makes up about 30% of all comments. Not like the (@)INLEO account does.

I wrote it weird.

Trump has made 11 pledges to Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, such as replacing the SEC chairman and creating a "national Bitcoin reserve."

He also pledged to #freeross on day one.

Yeah, waiting to hear that news.

OpenAI has launched "Predicted Outputs" a new feature that makes GPT-4o five times faster for tasks like editing documents and code.

Trump's second term could get intense with how he might use surveillance. Experts think he’ll target political enemies, immigrants, and others by expanding the use of government spying. This could mean more government eyes on everyday lives, sparking real worries about privacy and free speech.

#Surveillance #Privacy

The problem is the media is so full of crap and used scare tactics to a level never seen.

Do not believe most of what they tell you...about either candaidate.

Oh so it's all part of the propaganda?

Technology doesnt depend upon politicians. We are looking at global situation meaning that is one country stifles, another benefits.

makes sense.

If you own a website you probably should know this. Microsoft Bing is now essential for SEO. With ChatGPT Search relying on Bing’s index, check your site’s Bing indexing to boost your site visibility. I think it'll work well 2025

SEO is likely dying. In an agentic internet, this is not going to be important since the website is not going to be the base unit of the Internet.

this is Facts Taskmaster, the whole concept is indeed dying and we can thank Sam Altman for that

Tech news doesnt care that it is election. Glad to see it keep filling up everyday :)

Here's what Trump promised the crypto industry ahead of the election

Donald Trump branded himself as the pro-crypto candidate for president on the campaign trail.

As Donald Trump celebrated his prospective victory on Election Night at Mar-a-Lago, he was joined by a roster of high-profile supporters. Among them were Elon Musk, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Cantor Fitzgerald CEO Howard Lutnick.

One thing those three people have in common: crypto.

#crypto #trump #bitcoin #technology

I'm just hoping he wasn't lying but it's clear people trusted his promises because looks at the rise of Bitcoin right now, everybody believes it'll do well so they'll investing

The challenge with a lot of these campaign promises is the candidate cannot do them without Congress so they are talking out their asses.

With #crypto, Trump will be do things. He can get rid of Gensler and push some other things to lighten up the attacks.

very true, when I think about Congress I realize that the president has power but not all the power to do it. That means yes it's a promise but it'll be a fight for them if Congress disagrees

It's an industry that Trump talked little about until recently but has counted on for large amounts of cash for his campaign and related PACs. Getting that money required him to make big promises pertaining to the crypto industry.

Digital asset markets surged on Election Night, with bitcoin hitting a record of over $75,000, as his victory began looking likely. Crypto-linked stocks like Coinbase and MicroStrategy moved higher as well in after-hours trading Tuesday.

With a Republican-controlled Senate on the horizon, Trump has few roadblocks to putting in place a more pro-crypto platform. Here are some of the things he's pledged to do:

Strategic national crypto stockpile
In Nashville in July, Trump headlined the biggest bitcoin conference of the year. In his keynote address, the former president said that if he returned to the White House, he would ensure the federal government never sells off its bitcoin holdings. However, he stopped short of proposing a formal federal reserve of digital currency.

'On day one, I will fire Gary Gensler'
In public remarks for months, Trump has promised to unseat U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler.

"On day one, I will fire Gary Gensler," Trump said, referencing the Joe Biden-appointed SEC chairman who has taken an aggressive approach to crypto regulation.

All bitcoin will be mined in America
In June in Palm Beach, Florida, about a dozen bitcoin mining executives and experts sat down with Trump for an hour and a half in a small tea room at the Mar-a-Lago Club. The closed-door session marked the first time the former president took a meeting with the technologists securing the $1.5 trillion bitcoin network by running large banks of high-powered machines.

Fed rate cuts
In August, Trump said that, if elected, he would lower interest rates.

The Federal Reserve, which guides the country's monetary policy, sets the benchmark rate. It also, by design, operates independently from the White House.

Lets see if he really is the $BTC president all crypto bros wishes.

Corning, maker of toughened Gorilla Glass for phones, faces EU antitrust probe

On Wednesday, the European Union opened an investigation of U.S. manufacturer Corning over possible anti-competitive practices.

On Wednesday, the European Union opened an investigation of U.S. manufacturer Corning over possible anti-competitive practices. Corning may not be a name that’s super familiar to the average tech consumer, but you are almost certainly within touching distance of its products as its a leading supplier of speciality toughened glass for mobile devices, including Apple’s iPhone. Its Gorilla Glass branding may also be a touch more familiar.

#eu #corning #gorillaglass #smartphone #technology

In a press release, the Commission said it’s concerned that Corning may have abused a dominant position for global supply of protective glass screens for handheld electronic devices, which may have resulted in distorted competition. In the Commission’s own words, Corning signed “anti-competitive exclusive supply agreements” with mobile phone manufacturers and companies that process raw glass (also known as OEMs and finishers, respectively).

“The Commission is concerned that the agreements that Corning put in place with OEMs and finishers may have excluded rival glass producers from large segments of the market, thereby reducing customer choice, increasing prices, and stifling innovation to the detriment of consumers worldwide,” the EU wrote.

The Commission said it will now carry out an in-depth investigation as a matter of priority. There’s no fixed timeline for concluding such a probe so it remains to be seen whether or not the EU will confirm any breach. But if it does, penalties for competition violations can be up to 10% of global revenue.

My Guess is in 2025, AI startups will only get funding if they have strong, loyal customers and make real profits. Investors can take chances at all with where AI is headed.

Chinese officials say that the weapon can be used to suppress the signals of American GPS and other satellites.

Chinese scientists claim to have made a breakthrough in a real-life “Death Star” energy beam weapon, according to reports.

The new high-powered microwave weapon combines many small electromagnetic waves to make one large focused laser beam — much like the Death Star from “Star Wars,” which destroyed planets by firing a particle beam comprised of several smaller sources.

#china #deathstar #gps #weapon #technology

The breakthrough is in the process of “ultra-high time precision synchronization,” which permits the beams from joining together and focusing on a single location, according to the South China Morning Post.

The Chinese research team is now able to generate precision amongst the smaller lasers that exceed the accuracy of atomic clocks, according to the Independent.

The time separation between the smaller lasers cannot exceed 170 picoseconds — or trillionths of a second, according to scientists, the South China Morning Post reported.

Researchers were able to achieve this result with the help of optical fibers.

That massive technological development — made possible due to the use of optical fibers — has allowed the weapon system to pass military testing, according to the outlet.

Chinese officials say that the weapon can be used to suppress the signals of American GPS and other satellites, according to the South China Morning Post.

Apple facing first EU fine under landmark law aimed at reining in Big Tech: sources

The fine would add to Apple’s mounting antitrust troubles, as EU regulators attempt to level the playing field for smaller firms.

Apple is set to be fined by the European Union’s antitrust regulators under the bloc’s landmark rules aimed at reining in the power of Big Tech, making it the first company to be sanctioned, sources with direct knowledge of the matter said on Tuesday.

#apple #eu #bigtech #eu #antitrust #technology

The regulators charged in June that the iPhone maker, helmed by CEO Tim Cook, had breached the bloc’s tech rules. The charge against Apple was the first by the Commission under its Digital Markets Act (DMA).

The fine is likely to come this month although the timing could still change, the sources said.

The fine would add to Apple’s mounting antitrust troubles, as EU regulators attempt to level the playing field for smaller firms.

This comes just months after Brussels fined Apple 1.84 billion euros ($2.01 billion) in March for thwarting competition from music streaming rivals via restrictions on its App Store – Apple’s first ever penalty for breaching EU rules.

Apple also faces an investigation into new fees imposed on app developers. DMA violations could result in a fine of as much as 10% of a company’s global annual turnover.

The Digital Markets Act (DMA), which came into force earlier this year, requires Apple to allow users to set the default web browser of their choice on iPads, permit alternative app stores on its operating system and allow headphones and smart pens to access iPad OS features.

Apple declined to comment. The European Commission did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Apple also lost a long-running court battle with the EU in September, resulting in the company being forced to pay 13 billion euros in back taxes to Ireland.

Trump election victory cheers up cryptocurrency proponents in China

These crypto proponents expect a bright future for digital assets and related policies on the mainland and Hong Kong

Donald Trump’s triumph in the 2024 US presidential election has elated China’s cryptocurrency community, who expect a bright future for digital assets and related policies on the mainland and Hong Kong, as bitcoin prices hit a record high.

#china #bitcoin #trump #election #digitalassets #crypto

“Trump’s pro-crypto stance is expected not only to invigorate the US virtual-asset industry, but also to encourage Hong Kong to further relax its own virtual-asset policies in its quest to become a global Web3 hub,” said Livio Weng, chief executive of Hong Kong-based cryptocurrency trading platform HashKey Exchange.
“This shift could also positively influence regulatory attitudes toward virtual assets in mainland China,” he added.

That reflects the enthusiasm of many Mandarin-speaking crypto-focused users on Elon Musk’s X, as they posted their congratulations to Trump on the social-media platform formerly known as Twitter, while also extolling a new all-time high reached by bitcoin on Wednesday, with some expressing good days ahead for the industry.

At one point on Wednesday, bitcoin prices reached above US$75,000, having gained more than 66 per cent since the start of this year.

Once a cryptocurrency critic, Trump in July vowed during his campaign that the US would become the “bitcoin superpower of the world” under his administration and that he would fire “on day one” Securities and Exchange Commission chair Gary Gensler, who ramped up scrutiny of the crypto sector.

$BTC got happy as well when Trump got elelected and reached new ath.

Fubo Could Be In Real Trouble as It Sues to Stop Venu Sports From Fox, Disney & WBD

Fubo Faces Potential Bankruptcy as Venu Sports Looms

FuboTV, a live TV streaming service, is facing a potential existential threat from Venu Sports, a new streaming service backed by Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery. Fubo has filed a lawsuit to block the launch of Venu Sports, arguing that it would give these media giants an unfair advantage by allowing them to bypass traditional distribution channels.

If Fubo loses the lawsuit, it could lose hundreds of thousands of subscribers to Venu Sports. This would be a significant blow to Fubo, which has yet to turn a profit and has been struggling to attract and retain subscribers. The potential loss of subscribers could lead to financial difficulties and even bankruptcy for the company.

The streaming wars are heating up, with major media companies spending billions of dollars on content. Disney, Netflix, Comcast, and other companies are investing heavily in original programming and exclusive content to attract and retain subscribers. This aRMs race is putting pressure on smaller streaming services like Fubo, which may not have the resources to compete.

Comcast is also facing challenges from the increasing demand for streaming content. The company's network experienced record traffic during the week of October 21st, due to the NFL game on Amazon and the pre-download of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. This highlights the growing strain on Internet infrastructure and the need for continued investment in network capacity.

Fubo's future is uncertain, but the company is fighting to survive. The outcome of the lawsuit against Venu Sports will have a significant impact on the company's ability to compete in the streaming market. If Fubo loses, it could be forced to make significant changes to its business model or even exit the market altogether.

Chinese AI chip start-up Biren teams with compute start-up for performance gains

US-blacklisted chipmaker Biren says team-up with Tencent-backed Infinigence AI led to a 100 per cent improvement in GPU training capacity.

Artificial intelligence (AI) chip start-up Biren Technology, considered key to China’s efforts to reduce reliance on US chipmaker Nvidia, said it has significantly increased the performance of its hardware when training large language models (LLMs) by working with a Tencent Holdings-backed supplier of computing power, or compute.

#china #ai #technology #semiconductor #biren

Biren, which Washington placed on a trade blacklist last year, has conducted a “deep” collaboration in LLM development and reasoning with Infinigence AI, boosting the training capacity of its graphics processing units (GPUs) by nearly 100 per cent, the chipmaker said in a statement on Tuesday.

Infinigence offers on-demand compute based on chips from brands including Nvidia, AMD, Huawei Technologies, Cambricon, Iluvatar Corex, and Moore Threads via its cloud platform Infini AI, which it unveiled in April.

The platform integrates 10 different chips, and has been used by leading Chinese AI start-ups Zhipu AI and MiniMax to develop models and applications. Infinigence added Biren’s GPU cluster to Infini AI on Tuesday, along with the associated software development tools, Biren said.

China’s chip development ecosystem continues to show resilience amid concerns of technological decoupling, as the US has continued to tighten access to advanced GPUs and other semiconductor technologies. Many Chinese AI start-ups face challenges in accessing enough compute resources for developing AI models. Difficulties include obtaining pricey Nvidia GPUs and lacking the technological skills needed to best optimise hardware for specific software.

Bitcoiners celebrate as $40 million campaign brings down Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown

The crypto industry's $245 million campaign fundraising push is paying off, most notably with the loss of Democrat Sherrod Brown in the Senate.

Crypto fans are celebrating the results of the Ohio Senate race, where blockchain entrepreneur Bernie Moreno has defeated Senate Banking Chair Sherrod Brown, a three-term incumbent, in a contest that was key in the battle for control of the U.S. Senate.

#crypto #bitcoin #politics #sherrodbrown #berniemoreno

Some $40 million of crypto money was directed at defeating Brown, with one PAC paying for five ads designed to boost awareness of Moreno, a businessman who worked as a luxury car dealer and had virtually no name recognition going into the contest.

The race was also a litmus test for whether the more than $245 million raised by the crypto industry this cycle would prove effective at the ballot box. The Ohio contest drew more ad spending than any Senate race in history, and was the biggest single target of crypto money this cycle.

Brown was unpopular with crypto fans, in part because he backed Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., in holding hearings on whether digital tokens were tied to terrorism. He voted against pro-crypto legislation, called for more regulation of the sector, and regularly posted anti-crypto rhetoric on social media.

Perplexity AI in final stages of raising $500 million round at $9 billion valuation

Perplexity AI is in the final stages of raising $500 million in funding at a $9 billion valuation, a source familiar with the situation told CNBC.

The startup competes against the likes of Google and ChatGPT-maker OpenAI. Perplexity most recent valuation was $3 billion in June. Institutional Venture Partners, a Bay Area-based firm, is leading the new round, according to the source, who requested anonymity since the funding is not yet public.

#perplexity #ai #funding #google #chatgpt #chatbot

Perplexity started the year with a roughly $500 million valuation. Since then, the company has continued to attract investor interest amid the generative AI boom, raising four funding rounds so far this year.

Last week, OpenAI launched a search feature within ChatGPT, its viral chatbot, that positioned it to better compete with Perplexity, as well as leading search engines like Google and Microsoft's Bing. OpenAI's search feature offers up-to-the-minute sports scores, stock quotes, news, weather and more, powered by real-time web search and partnerships with news and data providers, according to the company.

Despite the AI boom, Perplexity has been embroiled in controversy due to accusations of plagiarizing content from media outlets. The New York Times last month sent Perplexity a "cease and desist" notice, claiming that the startup scrapes the news outlet's content to generate answers. Perplexity has denied the allegations.

NBC News projected that Trump will defeat Vice President Kamala Harris after winning 276 Electoral College Votes, including some key swing states.

"With the crypto markets experiencing low volatility in the lead up to the election as the industry looks to gain clarity on future regulatory conditions, traders are bracing for volatility once results start to come out," said Chris Chung, CEO at Titan, a decentralized exchange aggregator built on the Solana blockchain. "Certain sectors that have buoyed prices, such as the renewed interest in memecoins, may experience major price movements as individual states report election results."

In the lead-up to Election Day, memecoins and AI-related crypto tokens outperformed the overall crypto market. The sector of the crypto market is used as a measure of retail investors' risk appetite.

#tesla #us #technology #economic #finance

AI hallucinations gone wrong as Alaska uses fake stats in policy

The combination of artificial intelligence and policymaking can occasionally have unforeseen repercussions, as seen recently in Alaska.

In an unusual turn of events, Alaska legislators reportedly used AI-generated citations that were inaccurate to justify a proposed policy banning cellphones in schools. As reported by /The Alaska Beacon/, Alaska’s Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) presented a policy draft containing references to academic studies that simply did not exist.

#technology #ai #policy

The situation arose when Alaska’s Education Commissioner, Deena Bishop, used generative AI to draft the cellphone policy. The document produced by the AI included supposed scholarly references that were neither verified nor accurate, yet the document did not disclose the use of AI in its preparation. Some of the AI-generated content reached the Alaska State Board of Education and Early Development before it could be reviewed, potentially influencing board discussions.

Commissioner Bishop later claimed that AI was used only to “create citations” for an initial draft and asserted that she corrected the errors before the meeting by sending updated citations to board members. However, AI “hallucinations”—fabricated information generated when AI attempts to create plausible yet unverified content—were still present in the final document that was voted on by the board.

The final resolution, published on DEED’s website, directs the department to establish a model policy for cellphone restrictions in schools. Unfortunately, the document included six citations, four of which seemed to be from respected scientific journals. However, the references were entirely made up, with URLs that led to unrelated content. The incident shows the risks of using AI-generated data without proper human verification, especially when making policy rulings.

Alaska’s case is not one of a kind. AI hallucinations are increasingly common in a variety of professional sectors. For example, some legal professionals have faced consequences for using AI-generated, fictitious case citations in court. Similarly, academic papers created using AI have included distorted data and fake sources, presenting serious credibility concerns. When left unchecked, generative AI algorithms, which are meant to produce content based on patterns rather than factual accuracy, can easily produce misleading citations.

The reliance on AI-generated data in policymaking, particularly in education, carries significant risks. When policies are developed based on fabricated information, they may misallocate resources and potentially harm students. For instance, a policy restricting cellphone use based on fabricated data may divert attention from more effective, evidence-based interventions that could genuinely benefit students.

Furthermore, using unverified AI data can erode public trust in both the policymaking process and AI technology itself. Such incidents underscore the importance of fact-checking, transparency, and caution when using AI in sensitive decision-making areas, especially in education, where impact on students can be profound.

Alaska officials attempted to downplay the situation, referring to the fabricated citations as “placeholders” intended for later correction. However, the document with the “placeholders” was still presented to the board and used as the basis for a vote, underscoring the need for rigorous oversight when using AI.

Western drivers remain sceptical of in-vehicle AI

A global study has unveiled a stark contrast in attitudes towards embracing in-vehicle AI between Eastern and Western markets, with European drivers particularly reluctant.

#technology #ai #car

The research – conducted by MHP – surveyed 4,700 car drivers across China, the US, Germany, the UK, Italy, Sweden, and Poland, revealing significant geographical disparities in AI acceptance and understanding.

According to the study, while AI is becoming integral to modern vehicles, European consumers remain hesitant about its implementation and value proposition.

The study found that 48 percent of Chinese respondents view in-car AI predominantly as an opportunity, while merely 23 percent of European respondents share this optimistic outlook. In Europe, 39 percent believe AI’s opportunities and risks are broadly balanced, while 24 percent take a negative stance, suggesting the risks outweigh potential benefits.

Understanding of AI technology also varies significantly by region. While over 80 percent of Chinese respondents claim to understand AI’s use in cars, this figure drops to just 54 percent among European drivers, highlighting a notable knowledge gap.

Marcus Willand, Partner at MHP and one of the study’s authors, notes: “The figures show that the prospect of greater safety and comfort due to AI can motivate purchasing decisions. However, the European respondents in particular are often hesitant and price-sensitive.”

The willingness to pay for AI features shows an equally stark divide. Just 23 percent of European drivers expressed willingness to pay for AI functions, compared to 39 percent of Chinese drivers. The study suggests that most users now expect AI features to be standard rather than optional extras.

Dr Nils Schaupensteiner, Associated Partner at MHP and study co-author, said: “Automotive companies need to create innovations with clear added value and develop both direct and indirect monetisation of their AI offerings, for example through data-based business models and improved services.”

Despite these challenges, traditional automotive manufacturers maintain a trust advantage over tech giants. The study reveals that 64 percent of customers trust established car manufacturers with AI implementation, compared to 50 percent for technology firms like Apple, Google, and Microsoft.

The research identified several key areas where AI could provide significant value across the automotive industry’s value chain, including pattern recognition for quality management, enhanced data management capabilities, AI-driven decision-making systems, and improved customer service through AI-powered communication tools.

“It is worth OEMs and suppliers considering the opportunities offered by the new technology along their entire value chain,” explains Augustin Friedel, Senior Manager and study co-author. “However, the possible uses are diverse and implementation is quite complex.”

The study reveals that while up to 79 percent of respondents express interest in AI-powered features such as driver assistance systems, intelligent route planning, and predictive maintenance, manufacturers face significant challenges in monetising these capabilities, particularly in the European market.

AI is helping brands avoid controversial influencer partnerships

Influencer partnerships can be great for brands looking to pump out content that promotes their products and services in an authentic way. These types of engagements can yield significant brand awareness and brand sentiment lift, but they can be risky too. Social media stars are unpredictable at the best of times, with many deliberately chasing controversy to increase their fame.

#technology #ai

These antics don’t always reflect well on the brands that collaborate with especially attention-hungry influencers, leaving marketers no choice but to conduct careful due diligence on the individuals they work with. Luckily, that task can be made much easier thanks to the evolving utility of AI.

Lightricks, a software company best known for its AI-powered video and image editing tools, is once again expanding the AI capabilities of its suite with this week’s announcement of SafeCollab. An AI-powered influencer vetting module that lives within the company’s Popular Pays creator collaboration platform, SafeCollab is a new tool for marketers that automates the vetting process.

Traditionally, marketers have had no choice but to spend hours researching the backgrounds of influencers, looking through years’ worth of video uploads and social media posts. It’s a lengthy, manual process that can only be automated with intelligent tools.

SafeCollab provides that intelligence with its underlying large language models, which do the job of investigating influencers to ensure the image they portray is consistent with brand values. The LLMs perform what amounts to a risk assessment of creators’ content across multiple social media channels in minutes, searching through hours of videos, audio uploads, images and text.

In doing this, SafeCollab significantly reduces the time it takes for brand marketers to perform due diligence on the social media influencers they’re considering partnering with. Likewise, when creators opt in to SafeCollab, they make it easier for marketers to understand the brand safety implications of working together, reducing friction from campaign lifecycles.

The idea here is to empower brand marketers to avoid working with creators whose content is not aligned with the brand’s values – as well as those who have a tendency to kick up a storm.

Such due diligence is vital, for even the most innocuous influencers can have some skeletons in their closets. A case in point is the popular lifestyle influencer Brooke Schofield, who has more than 2.2 million followers on TikTok and co-hosts the “Canceled” podcast on YouTube. With her large following, good looks and keen sense of fashion, Schofield looked like a great fit for the clothing brand Boys Lie, which collaborated with her on an exclusive capsule collection called “Bless His Heart.”

However, Boys Lie quickly came to regret its collaboration with Schofield when a scandal erupted in April after fans unearthed a number of years-old social media posts where she expressed racist views.

The posts, which were uploaded on X between 2012 and 2015 when Schofield was a teenager, contained a string of racist profanities and insulting jokes about Black people’s hairstyles. In one post, she vigorously defended George Zimmerman, a white American who was controversially acquitted of the murder of the Black teenager Trayvon Martin.

Schofield apologized profusely for her posts, admitting that they were “very hurtful” while stressing that she’s a changed person, having had time to “learn and grow and formulate my own opinions.”

However, Boys Lie decided it had no option but to drop its association with Schofield. After a statement on Instagram saying it’s “working on a solution,” the company followed by quietly withdrawing the clothing collection they had previously collaborated on.

If the marketing team at Boys Lie had access to a tool like SafeCollab, they likely would have uncovered Schofield’s controversial posts long before commissioning the collaboration. The tool, which is a part of Lightricks’ influencer marketing platform Popular Pays, is all about helping brands to automate their due diligence processes when working with social media creators.

By analyzing years of creators’ histories of posts across platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, it can check everything they’ve posted online to make sure there’s nothing that might reflect badly on a brand.

Brands can define their risk parameters, and the tool will quickly generate an accurate risk assessment evaluation, so they can confidently choose the influencers they want to work with, safe in the knowledge that their partnerships are unlikely to spark any backlash.

Without a platform like SafeCollab, the task of performing all of this due diligence falls on the shoulders of marketers, and that means spending hours trawling through each influencer’s profiles, checking everything and anything they’ve ever said or done to ensure there’s nothing in their past that the brand would rather not be associated with.

When we consider that the scope of work might include audio voiceovers, extensive comment threads and frame-by-frame analyses of video content, it’s a painstaking process that never really ends. After all, the top influencers have a habit of churning out fresh content every day. Careful marketers have no choice but to continuously monitor what they’re posting.

Beyond initial history scans, SafeCollab’s real-time monitoring algorithms assume full responsibility, generating instant alerts to any problematic content, such as posts that contain graphic language, inappropriate images, promote violence or drug and alcohol use, mention violence, or whatever else the brand deems to be unsavory.

With the launch of SafeCollab, Lightricks is demonstrating yet another use case for generative AI. The company first made a name for itself as a developer of AI-powered video and image editing apps, including Photoleap, Facetune and Videoleap.

The latter app incorporates AI-powered video filters and text-to-video generative AI functionalities. It also boasts an AI Effects feature, where users can apply specialized AI art styles to achieve the desired vibe for each video they create.

Lightricks is also the company behind LTX Studio, which is a comprehensive platform that helps advertising production firms and filmmakers to create storyboards and asset-rich pitch decks for their video projects using text-to-video generative AI.

With all of Lightricks’ AI apps, the primary benefit is that they save users time by automating manual work and bringing creative visions to life, and SafeCollab is a great example of that. By automating the due diligence process from start to finish, marketers can quickly identify controversial influencers they’d rather steer clear of, without spending hours conducting exhaustive research.

Steam’s built-in game recording is now available to all

Steam Game Recording is officially out of beta and available to all users, giving PC, Mac, and Steam Deck players a built-in way to record and share audio and video from their gaming sessions. It joins many other ways PC gamers have been able to record their highlights, including as a feature of tools like the Xbox Game Bar, Nvidia GeForce, and AMD’s Adrenalin.

#technology #steam

This version of the Steam client is also the first to drop support for Windows 7 and 8 machines, as well as Macs running macOS 10.13 and 10.14 after Valve announced the move at the beginning of this year.

After an automatic update, players can start recordings manually using a hotkey (Ctrl + F11 is the default) or set it to trigger automatically, with options to restrict the length, quality, and storage space that Steam can use. Valve says it works with any game, including non-Steam games that allow Steam Overlay to run. Recording is off by default — you’ll find its settings in a new Game Recording tab in Steam’s settings.

Valve has updated Steam Game Recording with a handful of new features that weren’t there when the beta period began in June, including adding “advanced” export options and the ability to configure game-specific settings. The company also added Session View, which includes a “Recordings & Screenshots manager with game-specific tags and data.”

The hyperloop lives on as a 1/12th scale model in Switzerland

About a year ago, I wrote a story with the headline “The hyperloop is dead for real this time,” based on the news that Hyperloop One, one of the biggest companies pursuing Elon Musk’s dream of tube-based, 700mph travel, had shut down.

#technology #Switzerland

Well, I stand corrected. The hyperloop, in fact, lives on — as a 1/12th scale model in Switzerland.

Sure, this isn’t exactly the full realization of Musk’s 2013 white paper, in which he theorized that aerodynamic aluminum capsules filled with passengers or cargo could be propelled through a nearly airless tube at speeds of up to 760mph. These tubes, either raised on pylons or sunk beneath the earth, could be built either within or between cities. Musk called it a “fifth mode of transportation” and argued it could help change the way we live, work, trade, and travel.

The idea is being put to the test in Lausanne, Switzerland, where a 120-meter circular test track is being operated by a team that includes the Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), the School of Business and Engineering Vaud (HEIG-VD), and Swisspod Technologies. This week, the group announced that it had conducted “the longest” hyperloop test of its kind: traveling 11.8 km (7.3 miles) at a speed of 40.7km/h (25.3mph).

The circular test track has a circumference of 125.6 meters (412 feet) and a diameter of 40 centimeters (15.7 inches). It sounds modest, but the group claims that in a full-scale system, their test “directly translates” to a journey of 141.6 km (88 miles), which is about the distance between Geneva and Bern, or San Francisco to Sacramento, and speeds of up to 488.2 km/h (303.4mph).

The project is called LIMITLESS, which stands for Linear Induction Motor Drive for Traction and Levitation in Sustainable Hyperloop Systems. During the test, the team “monitored the performance of vital subsystems,” including propulsion, communication infrastructure, power electronics, and thermal management. They assessed “energy consumption, thrust variations, [linear induction motor] response, and control during acceleration, cruising, coasting, and braking scenarios.”

Of course, a 1/12th-scale circular test track is hardly a sign that the hyperloop is alive and well. Most of the startups and companies pursuing a full-scale hyperloop have shut down, victims of financial mismanagement, as well as infrastructure and regulatory hurdles. Critics said that while the hyperloop may be technically feasible, it still only amounts to vaporware. It’s been called a “utopian vision” that would be financially impossible to achieve.

But the Swiss team is undeterred, promising to conduct a battery of future tests to further validate the system. Swisspod CEO Denis Tudor said the group plans to test its first freight product soon, and is currently building a larger test track in the US.

“This is a key step toward making hyperloop for passengers a reality and changing how we connect, work, and live,” he said.

That would be a feat unto itself, considering that no full-scale hyperloops exist anywhere in the world. Musk’s test tunnel in California is gone. The man himself has become more enamored with campaigning for Donald Trump than solving the problem of car traffic.

The Boring Company, Musk’s tunneling operation, is still digging underground passageways in Las Vegas — but for Teslas, not hyperloops. The future, it would seem, is nearly the same as the present.

What does Trump’s election mean for EVs, Tesla, and Elon Musk?

On the campaign trail, Donald Trump said a lot of things about electric vehicles. He said he would “end the electric vehicle mandate on day one,” that EVs “don’t work,” and that they benefit China and Mexico while hurting American autoworkers.

#technology #ev #energy #tesla #policy

But he has also closely aligned himself with Elon Musk, who runs the biggest EV company in the US. And he will likely have Musk continuing to whisper in his ear on important policy matters moving forward, even going so far as to promise to appoint the mercurial billionaire to a role in his administration.

So now that he’s the president-elect, what will he actually do that will affect the auto industry and its tenuous shift to electric vehicles?

First off, he said he would “rescind all unspent funds” in President Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, which includes many of the administration’s efforts to incentivize EV production in the US. Trump is likely to kill these incentives, everything from the EV tax credit to incentives for battery factories and mining.

It could prove to be an unpopular move, as the tax credits have been shown to work. The Biden administration claims that the tax credits have been successful, saving car buyers $1 billion in 2024 alone. The credit can now be applied at the point of sale, meaning shoppers can accept a discount on their EV purchase directly from dealers. And EV sales are continuing to increase, growing 11 percent year over year in the third quarter of 2024, according to Cox Automotive.

Eliminating these tax credits and incentives will make EVs more expensive to buy for many Americans, which will likely result in fewer vehicles sold. Manufacturers will have to adjust their plans to account for the less generous tax environment. Any factory that has yet to break ground is in jeopardy.

But making cars is expensive, and development cycles last for years. Automakers will be lobbying hard for regulatory certainty — whether Trump pays heed is entirely up in the air.

“Depending on how much [the individual tax credit] would be changed, it could be very detrimental to the North American automotive industry,” Sam Fiorani, vice president of global vehicle forecasting at AutoForecast Solutions, told Automotive News. “A lot of the demand for EVs currently is driven by that incentive, and that incentive feeds the manufacturers.”

Trump could also kill the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program to install more EV chargers. However, at least 14 percent of NEVI funds have gone directly to Tesla, which is the largest provider of EV charging in the US. It’s unclear whether Trump would axe a program that benefits his new BFF. But Musk has spoken disparagingly of NEVI, so it’s certainly a possibility.

Some Tesla investors say that while the new Trump administration is likely to be a negative for the auto industry, it could end up working out for Musk, who famously went all in for Trump, spending over $119 million to support his campaign.

“Tesla has the scale and scope that is unmatched in the EV industry and this dynamic could give Musk and Tesla a clear competitive advantage in a non-EV subsidy environment,” said Wedbush analyst Dan Ives, “coupled by likely higher China tariffs that would continue to push away cheaper Chinese EV players (BYD, Nio, etc.) from flooding the US market over the coming years.”

Trump is likely to attempt to roll back or weaken the Biden administration’s new tailpipe emission standards, which would slash greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2032. This is likely what he’s talking about when he rails against the “EV mandate.” Republicans have falsely portrayed the new standards as a ban on gas-powered cars. EVs would need to account for over half of new vehicle sales for automakers to meet these strict mandates.

If that happens, expect automakers to tap the brakes on EV production. That will likely result in Detroit’s Big Three — Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis — becoming less competitive globally, as the rest of the world continues to innovate and produce more EVs. It could also open the door for foreign automakers to come in and snap up the market. Tariffs could deter countries like China from flooding the US with cheap EVs, but that could be short-lived if China keeps making cheaper and cheaper EVs.

Trump’s plan to slap tariffs on a variety of imported goods, including foreign-made cars, could make many vehicles more expensive to buy. Shares in BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche all fell on Germany’s stock market on the news of Trump’s victory on Wednesday. Meanwhile, stock prices in the Big Three, as well as Tesla, surged in early trading.

Fighting — over tax credits, emission standards, federal spending, state’s rights, and more — will become a hallmark of this presidency and its approach to the auto industry, just as it was last time. But this time around, EVs are becoming mainstream, and a lot of the investments can’t just be unspooled. Climate change is a looming threat, and EVs are seen as an important tool to fighting it. This time, there’s just a lot more at stake.

Alexa at 10: Amazon’s assistant is a winner and a failure

Alexa didn’t get a big splashy launch event, or come with a bunch of grand proclamations about being the future of anything. Instead, like a phone charger with a made-up name or a knockoff version of your favorite blush, it just kind of appeared on Amazon one day.

#technology #ai #alexa

Ten years ago this week, on November 6th, 2014, Amazon launched the Echo and the smart speaker era. The device quickly spawned countless more, from Amazon and others. It became the emblem of a voice-first way of using technology, the “ambient computing” revolution Amazon and others came to believe would change how we do everything. Now there are Alexa devices in millions of homes, just listening and chirping away all day.

On this episode of The Vergecast, we wrestle with what all that really adds up to. The Verge’s Jennifer Pattison Tuohy joins the show to talk about the reasons for that surprise 2014 launch, the explosive growth of the Alexa ecosystem, and the challenges Amazon and everyone else faced in trying to figure out what these smart speakers could really do. By some measures, Alexa is an undeniable hit, an utterly mainstream part of our technological lives. But for all that success, Alexa has never lived up to Amazon’s lofty goals. It’s not the ultra-powerful and ultra-versatile Star Trek computer; it’s not even a better way to shop. After all this time, it’s for music and timers. Alexa has always been for music and timers.

There’s a big change coming for Alexa, though. We talk a lot about what the so-called “Remarkable Alexa” upgrade might mean for the virtual assistant, as Amazon shifts its underlying technology to be based on large language models and generative AI. It’s pretty clear now that Amazon’s big idea was something like the right one. Is the tech finally ready to make it real? And will Amazon ever ship the thing so we can find out? The Echo was a surprise a decade ago — maybe we’re due for another one.

Prime Video will let you summon AI to recap what you’re watching

Amazon’s Prime Video is getting a new generative AI-powered feature to help catch you up on a show. The new tool, called X-Ray Recaps, can create text summaries of “of full seasons of TV shows, single episodes, and even pieces of episodes,” the company says in a blog post.

#technology #primevideo #ai

X-Ray Recaps will be accessible from the detail page of a show or in X-Ray while you’re watching something. The tool “analyzes various video segments, combined with subtitles or dialogue, to generate detailed descriptions of key events, places, times, and conversations,” Amazon says. Amazon has also applied “guardrails” to help the feature avoid sharing spoilers and to keep summaries concise.

X-Ray Recaps, which is are beta, are coming to Fire TV devices starting today, with support for “additional devices” available by the end of this year, Amazon says. The feature, at launch, will work with all Amazon MGM Studios Original series.

Lyft partners with May Mobility, Mobileye to bring autonomous vehicles to the app

It seems Lyft is hoping to catch up to Uber’s string of autonomous vehicle partnerships.

It seems Lyft is hoping to catch up to Uber’s string of autonomous vehicle partnerships.

Lyft announced Wednesday three separate partnerships — with startup May Mobility, automated driving company Mobileye, and smart dashcam firm Nexar — all aimed at establishing a foothold in the emerging autonomous vehicle market.

#lyft #autonomous #maymobility #mobileye

In the announcement, the ride-hailing company said it signed a deal with May Mobility to launch autonomous vehicles on the Lyft app starting in Atlanta in 2025. Lyft also announced a partnership with Intel-owned Mobileye that will allow certain AV tech-equipped vehicles to tap into the ride-hailing app as well as a data-sharing agreement with Nexar that’s designed to give OEMs and operators better insights to train autonomous driving systems.

This isn’t Lyft’s first time delving into autonomous vehicles. The company previously provided a robotaxi service — always with a human safety driver behind the wheel — in Las Vegas via a partnership with Motional. It had a similar agreement in Austin and Miami with Argo AI. However, Motional paused that partnership in May after slashing its workforce, and Argo AI shut down in 2022. Lyft had a stake in Argo, and took a $135.7 million hit when the company folded.

Mozilla laying off 30% of staff, still laser focused on its broader targets

Brandon Borrman, Mozilla's senior communications leader, stated that the organization is restructuring its internal teams to remain impactful amid the relentless evolution of technology

Rock Bottom: Mozilla recently embarked on a significant workforce restructuring effort, laying off 30 percent of its employees in the process. The Firefox maker hopes the changes will allow them to become more agile in order to better navigate the challenging technology landscape.

#technology #mozilla #webbrowser #internet #layoffs

Brandon Borrman, Mozilla's senior communications leader, stated that the organization is restructuring its internal teams to remain impactful amid the relentless evolution of technology and the web. Some of Mozilla's past projects will be discontinued, as the organization shifts its focus going forward.

Mozilla reportedly had around 120 employees when the layoffs began, and dozens of staff had already been let go earlier this year. An email announcing the latest round of cuts was sent to all employees on October 30, with executive director Nabiha Syed confirming that the "advocacy" and "global programs" divisions are no longer part of the organization.

Despite the cut, Syed emphasized that advocacy remains central to Mozilla's mission and will be absorbed into other, unspecified areas of the organization. The advocacy team previously led initiatives like Privacy Not Included, a project aimed at helping users make informed decisions and avoid companies with poor privacy practices.

Bitcoin surges to record high as traders rally around Trump victory

Value has fluctuated between $55,000 and $70,000 over the past several months, but Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election has shaken up the market.

The big picture: The world's leading cryptocurrency entered 2024 in a slump, with the value of a single coin hovering near the $40,000 as the calendar rolled over. The debut of US-listed Bitcoin exchange-traded funds in January had a huge impact on the market and by March, Bitcoin's value had surged to more than $70,000. Now, Bitcoin has reached an all-time high of more than $75,000 in what could be the start of a record run for the popular cryptocurrency following the US presidential election.

Value has fluctuated between $55,000 and $70,000 over the past several months, but Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election has shaken up the market.

AJ Bell analyst Russ Mould told The Guardian just ahead of the election on Tuesday that many investors believed that a Republican win would result in a surge for the cryptocurrency. Nigel Green from financial advisory group deVere said a Trump win could be the catalyst that pushes the digital currency into uncharted territory.

As the publication highlights, Trump initially viewed cryptocurrencies as a scam but later changed his stance. Green added that Trump's return to the White House could result in a renewed emphasis on deregulation, tax breaks, and other policies that could favor alternative investments like Bitcoin.

Faber launches third VC fund with $34M first close, aims for $64M

Faber Tech Fund III will target pre-seed and seed-stage startups in deep tech, AI, robotics and biotech across Portugal, Spain and the Netherlands.

The startup ecosystem in the Iberian Peninsula — the region encompassing Spain and Portugal — has been on a roll the last couple of years. The value of Spanish startups surpassed €100 billion in 2023, according to Dealroom data, with venture investment of €2.2 billion across some 850 rounds. Meanwhile, Portugal has produced a slew of VC firms such as Shilling, Indico, Armilar, Bynd, and more.

#faber #venturecapital #funding #technology

Lisbon-based venture firm Faber has become the latest to double down on the region — it recently launched its third fund, marking a first close of €31 million (about $33.9 million). The fund is anchored by the European Investment Fund (EIF) and has received major contributions from the NATO Innovation Fund and Portugal’s Caixa Capital, as well as family offices. It’s aiming to raise €60 million (about $64.2 million) in total.

The new fund, titled Faber Tech Fund III, will target pre-seed and seed-stage startups in deep tech, AI, robotics, and biotech across Portugal, Spain, and the Netherlands.

Alexandre Barbosa, managing partner at Faber, told TechCrunch that the new fund is meant to focus particularly on deep tech, AI/ML, and data-related technologies. “The first investments are lined up in photonic chips, analog chip design, and synthetic biology,” he said.

The firm’s thesis, Barbosa said, is backed by the fact that scientific and technical talent continues to flow toward Southern Europe, especially given that Portugal and Spain are among the top five destinations for exchange programs.

Call of Duty Mobile celebrates five years and one billion downloads

The mobile version of CoD was downloaded 270 million times in its first year, and generated nearly $500 million in revenue in the process.

MoradaUno wants to make it easier to rent apartments in Mexico

MoradaUno works with brokers to underwrite potential renters so they can navigate Mexico's tight rental requirements.

Renting in Latin America is restrictive. Most landlords require three months of rent as a deposit and a guarantor that owns property in the same city to co-sign the lease. Santiago Morales, the co-founder and CEO of proptech MoradaUno, said this dynamic makes 40% of prospective renters ineligible. His company wants to get more tenants into rentals by underwriting their risk.

#moradauno #apartments #mexico #technology #rentals

“That’s the largest pain point in the industry today,” Morales told TechCrunch. “People not being able to rent where they want, or they have to, like, rent with roomies, roommates or basically can’t rent. So we said, let’s go fix that. Let’s go solve that problem.”

The result was MoradaUno, a Mexico City-based company that looks to upfront tenant risk for landlords. The company works with real estate brokers by screening and underwriting potential tenants and agreeing to take on their rent payments if the tenants stop paying. Morales said the company’s thorough vetting process, which includes background checks and income verification, weeds out a lot of bad actors from the start. MoradaUno also provides additional optional broker services like legal and home insurance.

The company decided to target brokers, as opposed to landlords themselves, due to the fragmented nature of Mexico’s rental market, Morales said. Unlike in U.S. cities where there is a concentration of large landlords that manage a ton of units, in Mexico, it’s the opposite. Most landlords only own one property.

“It’s all mom and pops, like 97% of the market is mom and pops,” Morales said. “They really depend on this income. So they’re like, ‘Oh, who am I renting to? What happens if they don’t pay?’ There’s a lack of trust there. We say, we can help solve that or bridge that lack of trust with technology.”

MIT's 3D nanoscale transistors use quantum tunneling design to bypass physical limits

The problem they're tackling is what's known as Boltzmann tyranny. It refers to the fundamental limit to how little voltage is required to switch a silicon transistor.

Why it matters: Silicon transistors are great, but just like any other object in the physical world, they are held back by a few limitations. The laws of physics put a bottleneck on performance and energy efficiency. Now, a group of MIT engineers may have found a way to blow past those limits using a radical new transistor design that behaves in wild quantum ways.

#quantum #nanoscale #transistors #technology #physics

The problem they're tackling is what's known as "Boltzmann tyranny." It refers to the fundamental limit to how little voltage is required to switch a silicon transistor on and off at room temperature, where if you crank the voltage down too far, the transistor loses its switching ability. This voltage floor prevents major gains in energy efficiency for electronics, which could be a problem as power-hungry AI applications take over more processing duties.

The MIT team fabricated experimental transistors from unique semiconductor materials like gallium antimonide and indium arsenide, rather than traditional silicon. The research is funded, in part, by Intel Corporation and was published recently in Nature Electronics.

However, the real magic is in their unique tiny 3D design, engineered with precision tools at MIT.nano, the university's dedicated facility for nanoscale research. The transistors feature vertical nanowire heterostructures with a minuscule diameter of just 6 nanometers, which the researchers believe are the smallest 3D transistors ever reported.

Apple may update Find My to let you share locations of lost items

Apple could soon let users share the location of lost items via the Find My app with people who are not in their contacts using a link.

MacRumors spotted the updated feature in the iOS 18.2 developer beta and noted that Apple says it’s intended to help locate your lost items by sharing the location with people such as a cabdriver or an airline employee.

#apple #application #findmy #technology

The Find My app on the iOS 18.2 developer beta has a new “Share Item Location” option, which gives you a shareable link to the location of the missing item. People can open the link on any device (including non-Apple devices) to try and track it. The link automatically expires after a week or when the item is back with you.

There’s also a “Share Contact Info” option that lets any phone connect with an item and open a website, which will show your phone number and email — if you’ve added those details to the item’s contact page. Seemingly, this is meant to help the person who finds the item contact you.

Scientists Develop Fast, Affordable Cancer Test From a Single Drop of Blood

The method employs ultrathin membranes to capture small packets of cellular material known as extracellular vesicles.
Cells release billions of tiny packets of cellular material known as extracellular vesicles (EVs) into blood, saliva, and other bodily fluids. These EVs carry crucial information, including proteins and genetic material from their cell of origin, offering insights into the body’s current state. Scientists see great potential in EVs for diagnostics and therapies, yet face challenges in developing methods that are both quick and cost-effective.

#scientists #cancer #blood

In a study published in Small, researchers at the University of Rochester outline a new method for using ultrathin membranes to easily identify EVs for rapid liquid biopsies. The method, called catch and display for liquid biopsy (CAD-LB), holds promise for diagnosing cancer quickly and affordably, and assessing the progress of therapies used to treat diseases.

Simplifying Liquid Biopsies
“By searching samples of blood or other bodily fluids for these extracellular vesicles and the biomarkers they carry, you can find important clues that something is amiss in the body,” says James McGrath, the William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of Biomedical Engineering and leader of the study. “The idea has been around for a while, but previously it required many purification steps to isolate the EVs away from other components of the biofluid. CAD-LB is much simpler and faster, which gives it the potential for clinical use that more complex methods lack.”

The team developed ultrathin membranes with pores sized perfectly to catch EVs. Once a sample of blood is taken, it is quickly processed, injected with a pipette onto a membrane, and directly analyzed under a microscope. By counting the number of pores that glow with the biomarker for the disease being assessed, users can get a quick estimation of how prevalent the disease is within the body.

New Breakthrough Helps Free Up Space for Robots To “Think”

King’s College London researchers have created a pressure-based, electricity-free robotic control system that enables advanced AI and autonomous functioning, paving the way for versatile, adaptive robots suitable for low-power and specialized environments.

Engineers have developed a method to give robots complex instructions without using electricity, potentially freeing up more space in the robotic ‘brain’ for them to ‘think’.

#kingscollege #robots #technology #engineers

Mimicking how some parts of the human body work, researchers from King’s College London have transmitted a series of commands to devices with a new kind of compact circuit, using variations in pressure from a fluid inside it.

They say this world first opens up the possibility of a new generation of robots, whose bodies could operate independently of their built-in control center, with this space potentially being used instead for more complex AI-powered software.

“Delegating tasks to different parts of the body frees up computational space for robots to ‘think,’ allowing future generations of robots to be more aware of their social context or even more dexterous. This opens the door for a new kind of robotics in places like social care and manufacturing,” said Dr Antonio Forte, Senior Lecturer in Engineering at King’s College London and senior author of the study.

The findings, published in Advanced Science could also enable the creation of robots able to operate in situations where electricity-powered devices cannot work, such as exploration in irradiated areas like Chernobyl which destroy circuits, and in electric-sensitive environments like MRI rooms.

Silent Signals: The Breakthrough Technology Powering Faster Space Data

In space exploration, long-distance optical links now enable the transmission of images, videos, and data from space probes to Earth using light.

However, for these signals to travel the entire distance undisturbed, hypersensitive receivers and noise-free amplifiers are essential. Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden have now developed a system featuring a silent amplifier and an ultra-sensitive receiver, opening up possibilities for faster and more reliable space communication.

#silentsignals #technology #space #data

Space communication systems are increasingly relying on optical laser beams instead of traditional radio waves, as light experiences less signal loss over vast distances. However, even light-based signals weaken as they travel, meaning that optical systems need highly sensitive receivers to detect these faint signals by the time they reach Earth. Researchers at Chalmers have developed an innovative approach to optical space communication that could unlock new opportunities—and discoveries—in space.

“We can demonstrate a new system for optical communication with a receiver that is more sensitive than has been demonstrated previously at high data rates,” explains Peter Andrekson, Professor of Photonics at Chalmers and one of the lead authors of the study, recently published in Optica. “This means that you can get a faster and more error-free transfer of information over very long distances, for example when you want to send high-resolution images or videos from the Moon or Mars to Earth.”

World's first wooden satellite launched into space

Researchers from Japan believe that timber is a space-grade material that could on day be used to build houses on Mars. Their satellite was crafted from honoki wood without screws or glue to hold it together.

#satellite #wooden #technology #japan #space #mars

The world's first wooden satellite was launched into space on Tuesday in an attempt to prove that wood is a space-grade material.

Designed by researchers at Kyoto University in Japan, LignoSat is made of honoki, a kind of magnolia tree that was traditionally used to make sword sheaths.

The team aims to plant trees on the moon and Mars in 50 years.

"With timber, a material we can produce by ourselves, we will be able to build houses, live and work in space forever," said Takao Doi, an astronaut who studies human space activities at Kyoto University.

Testing wood in space
The Japanese researchers conducted a 10-month experiment aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and found that honoki was the timber most suited for space applications.

They then constructed LignoSat using a traditional Japanese crafts technique without screws or glue to hold the satellite together.

"If we can prove our first wooden satellite works, we want to pitch it to Elon Musk's SpaceX," Doi said.

OpenAI acquired Chat.com

OpenAI bought Chat.com, adding to its collection of high-profile domain names.

As of this morning, Chat.com now redirects to OpenAI’s AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT. An OpenAI spokesperson confirmed the acquisition via email.

#openai #chatbot #chatgpt #socialmedia

Chat.com is one of the older domains on the web, having been registered in September 1996. Last year, it was reported that HubSpot co-founder and CTO Dharmesh Shah acquired Chat.com for $15.5 million, making it one of the top two all-time publicly reported domain sales.

Shah announced last March that he’d sold Chat.com to an unnamed buyer.

Flying cars, drones to take off in Shenzhen with US$1.7 billion investment

Shenzhen is spending 12 billion yuan on the low-altitude economy over the next two years, with another 20 billion yuan planned through 2030.

China’s southern tech hub of Shenzhen has pledged to invest 12 billion yuan (US$1.7 billion) in infrastructure for the low-altitude economy over the next two years, as the city aims to take a lead in flying taxis and delivery drones.

#flyingcars #china #shenzhen #infrastructure

Shenzhen aims to build over 1,200 take-off and landing platforms by 2026, creating a new network to enable air travel, logistics, community delivery and urban governance services, the municipal Development and Reform Commission said on Tuesday, according to a report by the state-run Shenzhen Economic Daily.

Shenzhen had built 249 take-off and landing facilities by the middle of this year, and aims to add 147 more by the end of this year. It is planning to complete another 658 facilities in 2025, according to the report, citing the city’s transport bureau.

The city will also build more than 8,000 new 5G-Advanced base stations to bolster wireless network coverage for airspace below 600 metres and launch the Smart Integrated Lower Airspace System, dubbed the “brain for lower airspace”, by the end of this year, according to the report.

AI coding assistants can help startups develop products, seed VCs believe

By now, there’s hardly a coder in the world who isn’t using an AI copilot in some way.

By now, there’s hardly a coder in the world who isn’t using an AI copilot in some way. But using GitHub Copilot or Cursor.AI to ask technical questions and get debugging help could be just the beginning. AI coding may one day involve agents that can write the programs themselves based on a natural language prompt. Such programs may even replace human engineers.

#ai #coding #github #copilot

AI coding startups that can generate code from a natural language prompt include Replit and Bubble, among many others.

Eventually, some VCs believe, companies will hire fewer human engineers and have each human manage AI coding agents. “It’s not pie in the sky. It’s in the near future, but it’s not today,” VC Corinne Riley, partner at Greylock, said onstage at TechCrunch Disrupt last week.

Coding assistants are already commonly allowed during the coding technical interview for prospective hires at many of Greylock’s portfolio companies, she added.

However, she doesn’t believe that AI agents should ever be used to replace human engineers in really young companies, to save cash. At the seed stage, “what you’re doing is you’re building the foundations of the company, right? And so if you’re making major engineering trade-offs at that stage, it’s probably not the right decision. Those are decisions that you can make in the future,” she said.

Yet, cash management is also the very reason why young startup engineers should be using AI coding assistance as much and as well as they can right now, countered VC Elizabeth Yin, co-founder and general partner of Hustle Fund, onstage.

“One of the major challenges of the early stages, you don’t quite know exactly what problem you’re solving and quite exactly what the ICP [ideal customer profile] is and quite exactly what they need. So you’re going to end up throwing out a lot of work. So the faster you can go, and the faster you can iterate, the better in order to learn quickly,” Yin said.

Nanoscale transistors could enable more efficient electronics

Researchers are leveraging quantum mechanical properties to overcome the limits of silicon semiconductor technology.

Silicon transistors, which are used to amplify and switch signals, are a critical component in most electronic devices, from smartphones to automobiles. But silicon semiconductor technology is held back by a fundamental physical limit that prevents transistors from operating below a certain voltage.

#nanoscale #quantum #transistors #technology

This limit, known as “Boltzmann tyranny,” hinders the energy efficiency of computers and other electronics, especially with the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies that demand faster computation.

In an effort to overcome this fundamental limit of silicon, MIT researchers fabricated a different type of three-dimensional transistor using a unique set of ultrathin semiconductor materials.

Their devices, featuring vertical nanowires only a few nanometers wide, can deliver performance comparable to state-of-the-art silicon transistors while operating efficiently at much lower voltages than conventional devices.

“This is a technology with the potential to replace silicon, so you could use it with all the functions that silicon currently has, but with much better energy efficiency,” says Yanjie Shao, an MIT postdoc and lead author of a paper on the new transistors.

Technology has brought us this far. It has infinite potential.

What is a Threadcast?

In short, a Threadcast is a livestream chat room. I modeled the design after Twitch’s Chat

Any user on INLEO can make a live Threadcast at any time by simply using the tag “#threadcast” when making a thread

For live broadcasts that I do on a weekly basis (AMA, Chain Chatter and Growing INLEO), I run a Threadcast and vote every comment with at least $0.20

This means you can comment once or even dozens of times during one of my livestreams and earn several dollars in #crypto rewards

If you’re reading this and want to participate in my next Threadcast, here’s the schedule:

  1. AMA: every Tuesday @ noon EST
  2. Chain Chatter: every Wednesday @ noon EST
  3. Growing INLEO: every Thursday @ noon EST

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make

Air fryer errors

Air fryers are relatively easy to use – but do you know how to unlock your new-favorite kitchen gadget’s full potential? To help you air-fry your way to the tastiest, crispiest, best-looking food around, we’ve compiled a list of the most common air fryer mistakes, with tips and tricks on how to prevent them (and what to do instead). How much should you fill your air fryer? What needs oiling, and what doesn't? What are the best air fryer recipes?
Check them out in the comments. 👇

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Over-filling the basket

This is the easiest mistake to make! It's all too tempting to cram as much food into your air fryer as you can. However, over-filling will not only increase the overall cooking time, but it also means that your food won't cook evenly. It could create steam, too – so you can say goodbye to those beautifully crisp roast vegetables. Cook your food in a single layer and, depending on what you're cooking, be sure to shake or turn occasionally.

Forgetting to clean after each use

Bits of food, oil, sauce, and crumbs can build up in your air fryer, and this can taint food and cause unpleasant smells (or even smoke). Fortunately, cleaning your air fryer is a quick, easy job – just allow it to cool down, then pull out the drawer and basket. Some drawers and baskets are dishwasher-proof. If yours aren't, simply clean them with hot, soapy water and leave them to dry. Remember to clean the interior and exterior of your air fryer with a damp cloth too.

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Not giving your air fryer enough space

Air fryers get very hot when they're in use. To cool them down, they're equipped with a powerful fan at the back – so, to give your air fryer space to function properly, be sure not to position it right against your kitchen wall, where it could cause mess, and even damage. Allow plenty of space around your air fryer on all sides, so air can circulate evenly. If you don't like the smell of frying in the kitchen, place your air fryer close to your extractor fan.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Buying the wrong size

Air fryers vary significantly in size. Deciding on which capacity will work for you will depend on how much space you have, how much you plan on using your air fryer, and how many people are in your household. As a general rule, a 5-quart capacity will work for one or two people, while a 5-10 quart capacity air fryer will suit a family.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Neglecting to preheat your air fryer

If you put food in the basket before your air fryer has reached the required temperature, it may stick and cook unevenly. Given that most air fryers reach the correct temperature in under five minutes, this one's not a step worth skipping!
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Treating it like a conventional oven

Air fryers are, of course, much smaller than a conventional oven, with a powerful fan. Foods tend to cook more quickly in an air fryer, but bear in mind that there's less space for air to circulate – so, although your food may appear to be cooked on the outside, it could be raw in the center. You can't take cooking instructions meant for a conventional oven and use them in the same way for an air fryer; use pre-sets and recipes developed specifically for air fryers instead.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Not checking food as it cooks

New to air-frying? It's a good idea to keep an eye on your food as it cooks by pulling the drawer out slightly every now and again (don't worry – the temperature will quickly get back to its setting). Air fryers vary from brand to brand, so bear in mind that cooking times might be different too. It's a case of getting to know how your air fryer works, just as you would with a conventional oven.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Skipping the oil

Sure, air fryers give you that deep-fried food effect without all the oil – but you do need to add some oil to help your food crisp up, and ensure that any seasonings, such as dry rubs, stick to your food nicely. Before air-frying, toss your food in a bowl with a little oil (1-2 tbsp should be enough), or use an olive oil spray. Be sparing, though; too much oil will make a mess and result in soggy, greasy food.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Using the wrong setting

Most air fryers come with around six settings, with options for roasting, dehydrating, baking, cooking frozen foods, and homemade fries. The temperatures are pre-set, as are the timings. The manufacturer has done the hard work for you, so ensure you use the correct setting – otherwise, you risk undercooking (or overcooking) your food.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Lining the whole basket

Much as we all love to save on doing the dished, lining your entire air fryer basket with foil or parchment paper is an absolute no-no. Not only will it prevent air from circulating effectively, but the lining will also be too close to the heating coil, which could pose a fire hazard. To keep your air fryer functioning as it should, only line your basket halfway up the sides.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Not using a liner at all

Liners help prevent food from sticking to your air fryer basket – and they're especially beneficial if the food you plan to cook is a little wet (from a marinade, for example). You can buy perforated silicone or parchment liners, or solid ones, as pictured. The solid ones are great for putting under the basket in the drawer, so any spills or drips are caught. However, liners do interrupt the flow of air in your air fryer, so don't use them for breaded goods or fries.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Allowing your food to stick to the basket

There are a few reasons why your food might be sticking to your air fryer basket. It could be that your air fryer hasn't preheated to the correct temperature, or perhaps you've forgotten to oil your food. You could add a spray of oil to the basket while your air fryer heats up, or just make sure the food has a light coating of oil before adding it in.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Not soaking your fries first

Air fryers make the best homemade fries ever. There are two simple steps to the crispiest fries: first, soak your cut potatoes in very cold water for 15 minutes; this draws out the starch. Then, dry them thoroughly with a clean dish towel before lightly tossing them in oil and sea salt. Now they're ready for the air fryer.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Trying to make toast

No matter what anyone else may tell you, it's not worth using an air fryer to cook toast! Slices of bread are too light to air-fry; if you add them to your basket, the power of the fan will send them flying around. By the time you've heated up the air fryer, the toaster would have already done the job.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Failing to shake the basket during cooking

Many air fryer recipes will benefit from a quick drawer shake halfway through cooking. This won't work for delicate foods such as fish, but things like vegetables, fries, and roasted chickpeas should all be shaken if you want them to brown and cook evenly. Shaking will also help to prevent food from sticking to the basket.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Forgetting to flip food halfway through cooking

This particularly applies to kebabs, breaded chicken, falafel, burgers, and fish cakes and fish sticks. Flipping these foods halfway through cooking will ensure they cook evenly, and that they brown on both sides. It's the heat from the coil or element that makes the food turn brown, hence the need to flip.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Cooking food with wet or loose batters

An air fryer is not the same as a deep fat fryer, so trying to cook battered fish will just make a mess – the batter will drip right through the basket. The hot oil in a deep fat fryer seals the batter as it's submerged, but an air fryer just can't replicate that. The good news for battered fish lovers is that frozen fish will work a treat, as long as you cook it straight from the freezer.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Cooking breaded foods incorrectly

When air frying, there are a couple of reasons why breaded or crumbed food might turn out soggy. Firstly, is your air fryer at the correct temperature? It will need to be pretty hot – usually around 350°F. To achieve a crispy crumb, you must add a spritz of oil, giving your breaded goods a nice light coating. This will help them to firm up and brown.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Adding cheese to burgers too soon

Burger cheese is too light for an air fryer; the powerful fan will just blow it off. However, if you still want that melty cheese fix, we have a top tip: once the cooking time is over and the burger is ready, put the cheese on top and close the lid again for a minute or so before serving. The air fryer will still be hot enough to melt the cheese, but with no fan, it will stay in place on top of your patty. No more mess to clean up!
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Attempting to cook popcorn

Popcorn is another of those ultra-lightweight foods that are best left to your microwave or stove top. Your air fryer's powerful fan will just blow the kernels around, and they could stick to the heating coil, causing a hazard. Also, most air fryers cannot reach the high temperature needed to pop corn perfectly.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Trying to bake deep or large cakes

If your forearms bear the burn scars of trying to lift a cake tin into a pre-heated air fryer, you’ll understand this one. In air fryers, deep cakes tend to cook on the outside, but they’ll still be raw in the center – and they can burn or catch easily too. Small cakes like muffins or cupcakes are fine, but leave larger cakes to a conventional oven.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Not using it for muffins

Although most baking projects are best left to a conventional oven, muffins bake very well in an air fryer – in fact, it's quicker to cook them in an air fryer than in an oven. Air fryers are especially handy if you're baking a small batch of four to six muffins. You'll need quite sturdy muffin cases, or individual silicone ones. They'll take around 12 minutes at 300°F.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Overlooking cookies

Make a batch of cookie dough for the freezer, then bake a few cookies when you fancy something sweet. Air fryer cookies are quick to bake (they take around five minutes at 300°F) – but given the size of the basket, you'll need to do it in batches so they have space to spread out. Allow your cookies to cool in the basket for a few minutes before removing them and placing them on a wire rack.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Trying to cook leafy greens

We're back to that powerful fan again! Lightweight greens such as spinach, chard, and kale just fly around the basket when air-fried – and they could cause a fire hazard if they hit the heating element. They’ll burn at the edges too, so leave them to a steamer or microwave instead.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Over (or under) cooking meat

If your air fryer doesn't come with a built-in meat thermometer, it's worth investing in one – and you can always use it with your conventional oven too. Sometimes, with air fryers, meat may appear to be cooked, but it could still be raw in the center. On the other hand, overcooking your meat will just make it dry out. Try using your air fryer’s roasting pre-set, if it has one.

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Only cooking fresh vegetables

Whereas some fresh vegetables, such as broccoli, dry out too much when air-fried, frozen broccoli works a treat. Just add a spritz of oil and some seasoning to your air fryer basket, pop in a single layer of frozen vegetables, and you'll have crisp, perfectly cooked veggies in no time. There's no need to thaw them out first, either.

Losing out on leftovers

Air fryers really come into their own when you need to reheat a slice of pizza of quiche. Sure, you could warm it up in the microwave, but you wouldn't get the same crispy texture – plus, the air fryer will do the job in minutes.
#foodtalk #food #airfryer

29 Air-Fryer Mistakes You DON'T Want To Make 👈 Begin here.

Not using it for frozen snacks

An air fryer will take frozen snacks to the next level: speedy and crispy, with no need to thaw them out beforehand. We're thinking pot sticker dumplings, spring rolls, samosas, and bagel bites. If you want to make and freeze your own snacks, open freeze them on a tray, then bag them up and label them.

Missing out on air-fried pork belly

Not only do air fryers produce pork belly with delicious crackling, but there's an awful lot less oven to clean afterwards too. Depending on the size of your air fryer, a 2.2-3lb joint should fit inside with space for the air to circulate. Leave the meat uncovered in the fridge overnight – this way it’ll dry out, resulting in crunchy crackling.

Not giving air-fried chicken wings a try

Air-fried wings crisp up perfectly, with tender meat that doesn't dry out. Our tips for crispy, sticky wings? Spray your air fryer basket with oil, heat to 400°F, give the wings another light spritz of oil, then cook for 10 minutes, turning halfway through. Brush with sauce (click the link below for our recipe), then cook for a further five minutes. Perfection!

The Day’s Lesson - Entry #2 (11/5/24)

When the confrontation is inevitable, you will usually fair better running towards the storm instead of away from it.

This is a truth both literally and metaphorically. We’re all aware of the truth that facing your problems head-on and early is the best way to go.

On the literal side, in nature for instance, it is an effective survival strategy. Bison are known to run into oncoming storms rather than trying to escape.

By doing so, they endure the storm for a shorter period of time compared to trying to run away from it, where the storm would follow and prolong their exposure.

Looking back, I’m realizing just how much of my time and energy has helped other businesses grow.

If I had invested that same effort into my own dreams, who knows how much further I might be by now.

But does this mean it’s too late? Absolutely not!

So my tip to you, make sure you realize how and where you spend your time!

You are very correct my dear, where you spend your time and energy matters a lot because it will determine your future result...
