Thanks, I went to check it out. I didn't even know what that meant. I'm still learning some acronyms in English.

As before, before cutting up chickens, they need to be plucked, modern technology couldn't provide people with an initially bald chicken like a sphinx cat :) !LOLZ

I like them bald when they are cooked. The feathers dont do well in the fryers.

This is a generally accepted norm, but to achieve it you need to work hard plucking feathers :) !BEER

These could help.

A good option, like a feather plucking machine, but it is not a cheap pleasure and energy-consuming, it is easier to breed a bald breed of chickens :) !BEER

Have to get some good ones. Do not buy them from the discount store.

SpaceX

Elon Musk's SpaceX is about to perform the first commercial spacewalk

SpaceX will launch a team of four private astronauts 1,400 km above Earth on a risky mission aimed at the first spacewalk by a private spacecraft.

The Polaris Dawn mission is the first of three manned space flights that will culminate in the first human spaceflight on SpaceX spacecraft, a startup owned by billionaire Elon Musk.

#newsonleo #technology #space #spacex

The “Polaris Program” is made up of three human-manned space missions to improve SpaceX’s capabilities. Once they are completed, the next mission will be to fly with humans for the first time on Starship, which is currently in the testing phase.

“The Polaris Program is an important step toward human space exploration and, at the same time, toward solving problems on Earth through innovative technologies,” said billionaire Jared Isaacman, commander of the Polaris Program.

He previously commanded the world's first civilian mission in orbit, Inspiration4, in September 2021. “Throughout the mission, our goal will be to inspire humanity to look up and imagine what we can achieve here on Earth and in worlds beyond our own”, he states.

The Polaris Dawn mission will launch in the coming days, until SpaceX confirms that the weather is favorable for the flight and return. Liftoff will take place at Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The astronauts will be in a SpaceX Dragon capsule inside a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. For exact times and where to watch the live stream, check the Polaris on X feed, the SpaceX website, and the SpaceX YouTube channel for updates .

The Polaris Dawn crew will spend up to five days in orbit, flying higher than any other Dragon mission to date and reaching the highest Earth orbit ever visited.

Lego

Lego will replace fossil resources in the manufacture of parts with renewable and recycled plastic

Toymaker Lego said on Wednesday it is on track to replace the fossil fuels used to make its unique bricks with more expensive renewable and recycled plastic by 2032, after signing deals with producers to ensure long-term supply.

Lego, which sells billions of plastic bricks annually, has tested more than 600 different materials to develop a new material that would completely replace its petroleum-based bricks by 2030, but with limited success.

Now, Lego aims to gradually reduce the oil content in its bricks by paying up to 70% more for certified renewable resin, the raw plastic used to make the bricks, in a bid to encourage manufacturers to increase production.

SpaceX

SpaceX rocket is banned from taking off, casting doubt on upcoming missions

SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket will be held back for the second time in two months so that US federal regulators can investigate the failed landing attempt that occurred on Wednesday morning (28).

This makes the Falcon 9 rocket unavailable for two important space missions on SpaceX's horizon: Polaris Dawn and Crew-9.

It's unclear how long the Falcon 9 will remain grounded. After a similar accident in July, the rocket was banned from flying for a few weeks.

#newsonleo #technology #space

The company aimed to launch a bold mission called Polaris Dawn later this week, and next month it hoped to fly two NASA astronauts to the International Space Station on Crew-9, a mission that will also bring home the Boeing Starliner test flight crew. — after months trapped in space.

NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore have been in orbital laboratory limbo since Starliner experienced technical problems after their flight in early June.

Wednesday's incident involved the first stage of the Falcon 9 rocket — the lower part of the spacecraft, which provides the first burst of energy at liftoff — which failed to land vertically on a sea platform and exploded.

The overall mission, however, appeared to go off without a hitch, safely delivering a batch of SpaceX's Starlink internet satellites into orbit.

Still, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which licenses commercial rocket launches, said it intends to investigate the accident.

California's AI Kill Switch Bill: What's the Deal?

Big news from California! On August 29, SB-1047, the AI "kill switch" bill, passed the State Assembly with a 45-11 vote. Now, it just needs one more vote in the state Senate before landing on the governor’s desk. The bill wants AI creators to add a “kill switch” to shut down models if they start posing new threats to public safety. But not everyone is a fan, critics argue it’s focusing on sci-fi scenarios instead of real problems we’re facing now, like deepfakes and misinformation. What do you think? Is this the right move for AI safety?

Brazil's top court orders nationwide suspension of Elon Musk's X

Brazil’s supreme court on Friday ordered a nationwide suspension of Elon Musk’s social network X after the company vowed to defy earlier court orders.

Brazil's supreme court on Friday ordered a nationwide suspension of Elon Musk's social network X after the company vowed to defy earlier court orders concerning content moderation and the appointment of a legal representative in the country.

Alexandre de Moraes, the court's top judge, has also ordered daily fines for people or businesses in Brazil that use virtual private networks (VPNs) or other methods to access X while the site is banned in the country, G1 Globo reported.

#technology #brazil #x

The court issued a statement via its government website in Brazil on Friday, saying that it had ordered "the immediate and complete suspension of the operation of X, formerly Twitter, throughout the national territory until the Court's judicial decisions are complied with and the fines applied are paid." The statement also said that the order will be valid "until a representative of the company in the country is appointed."

Brazil's supreme court announced on Wednesday that Musk and X had 24 hours to either appoint a legal representative for its business in Brazil or face a "penalty of suspension of activities" there. The deadline passed Thursday evening.

Gmail users on Android can now chat with Gemini about their emails

Gmail users on Android devices can now chat directly with Google's AI assistant, Gemini, about their emails in the Gmail app.

Gmail users on Android devices can now chat directly with Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, about their emails in the Gmail app. Google rolled out the new feature, Gmail Q&A, on Thursday to users who pay for Gemini, according to a blog post, and announced the feature would be coming to iOS devices.

#ai #gemini #google #android

With Gmail Q&A, users can access Google Gemini in the Gmail app as a personal assistant that can read your entire email inbox. Google says you can ask Gemini to summarize emails by stating things like, “Catch me up on the emails about quarterly planning.” You can also use the feature to search for specific details, such as asking Gemini, “How much did the company spend on the last marketing event?”

Of course, you’ll have to bear with occasional hallucinations that plague even the best AI models when using this feature, so maybe don’t trust everything it tells you.

Traditionally, if you wanted to find information in your Gmail, you could use the search bar at the top of Google. That’s not going away, but the Gemini button will be added next to the search bar. This is all part of Google’s paradigm shift away from search and toward AI chat. Instead of locating the original email through search, Gmail is pushing users to have an AI chatbot summarize the info they’re looking for. However, it will still cite the source email in its answer.

Paying users can access the feature by clicking the black star logo, which has come to represent Gemini across Google’s product suite, in the top-right corner of the app. For now, the Gmail Q&A feature only has access to your emails, but in the future, Google says it will connect to files in your Drive account, as well.

In June, Gmail Q&A was rolled out to web users of Gmail who pay for Gemini or Google One AI Premium. These users pay roughly $20 a month for AI features like this, part of Google’s product and application layer around Gemini.

After winning a landmark case against real estate agents, this startup aims to replace them with a flat fee

One of the people who successfully sued the National Association of Realtors (NAR) to change real estate commissions has co-founded a new real estate

One of the people who successfully sued the National Association of Realtors (NAR) to change real estate commissions has co-founded a new real estate startup.

It all began in 2017 when Josh Sitzer and his wife listed their home for sale in Kansas City. The couple was frustrated by the fact they had to pay a 3% commission to a buyer’s agent.

#newsonleo #realestate #nar

“Due to the anti-competitive structure of the industry before the lawsuit, I, as the seller, was effectively coerced into paying 3% of my home’s selling price to a buyer’s agent in order to achieve a successful sale,” he told TechCrunch. “While hiring agents is a choice for many, I don’t believe anyone should be bullied into paying for undesired services due to unfair industry practices,” he added.

Sitzer shared his frustration with his neighbor, who happened to be a lawyer familiar with the subject matter. By 2019, he and other homeowners had filed a class-action lawsuit (Moehrl et al. v. National Association of Realtors, et al.) against the NAR. They received a verdict last year that resulted in a settlement earlier this year that will radically change how home real estate is sold.

X caught blocking links to NPR, claiming the news site may be 'unsafe'

X, the Elon Musk-owned platform formerly known as Twitter, is marking some links to news organization NPR's website as "unsafe" when users click through

X, the Elon Musk-owned platform formerly known as Twitter, is marking some links to news organization NPR’s website as “unsafe” when users click through to read the latest story about an altercation between a Trump campaign staffer and an Arlington National Cemetery employee. The warning being displayed is typically applied to malicious links, like those containing malware, and other types of misleading content or spam. However, in this case, the web page being blocked is an NPR news report, raising questions about whether or not Musk’s X is actively trying to stop the news story from spreading.

#newsonleo #x #npr #technology

On Thursday X users began to notice that a link to the NPR story about the Arlington Cemetery event, when clicked, would display the following message: “Warning: this link may be unsafe” followed by the URL of the web page in question, https://npr.org/2024/08/29/nx-s1-5092087/trump-arlington-cemetery-altercation-tiktok.

Instead of being taken to the website, the warning encourages them to go “back to the previous page” by clicking the big blue button. To read the news story, users would have to click on the small text below that reads, “Ignore this warning and continue.”

Spotify points finger at Apple over an unwelcome change to volume control technology

When streaming to connected devices via Spotify Connect on iOS, users were previously able to use the physical buttons on their iPhone to adjust the volume. But this will no longer work.

Spotify claims Apple may again be in violation of European regulation, the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which requires interoperability from big technology companies dubbed “gatekeepers.” This time, the issue isn’t about in-app purchases, links or pricing information, but rather how Apple has discontinued the technology that allows Spotify users to control the volume on their connected devices.

#spotify #apple #technology #music #newsonleo

When streaming to connected devices via Spotify Connect on iOS, users were previously able to use the physical buttons on the side of their iPhone to adjust the volume. As a result of the change, this will no longer work.

To work around the issue, Spotify iOS users will instead be directed to use the volume slider in the Spotify Connect menu in the app to control the volume on connected devices.

The company notes that this issue doesn’t affect users controlling the volume on iOS Bluetooth or AirPlay sessions, nor users on Android. It only applies to those listening via Spotify Connect on iOS.

As a result, Spotify iOS users globally will be directed to use the new in-app volume slider beginning on September 3.

According to Claude3:

What is latent space activation?

Latent space activation refers to a concept in machine learning and artificial intelligence, particularly in the context of deep learning and neural networks. Here's a concise explanation:

Latent space activation is the process of stimulating or utilizing specific regions within a model's internal representation space. This space, often called the latent space, contains compressed or abstract representations of data learned by the model during training.

Key points:

  1. Latent space: A lower-dimensional representation of input data captured by neural networks.
  2. Activation: Stimulating or accessing specific areas within this abstract space.
  3. Usage: Often employed in generative models, transfer learning, and feature manipulation.

This concept is particularly important in areas like:

  • Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs)
  • Variational Autoencoders (VAEs)
  • Style transfer
  • Image synthesis and manipulation

Who does this allow for the creation of synthetic data?

Latent space activation enables the creation of synthetic data through several mechanisms. Here's a brief explanation:

  1. Learned representations: Models capture essential features of data in the latent space.

  2. Interpolation: By activating different points in this space, we can generate new, unseen examples.

  3. Controlled generation: Manipulating specific dimensions in the latent space allows for targeted attribute changes.

  4. Sampling: Drawing random points from the latent distribution creates diverse synthetic samples.

  5. Feature disentanglement: Well-structured latent spaces separate different data attributes, enabling fine-grained control.

This process is particularly powerful in generative models like GANs and VAEs.

Is synthetic data useful for further training of AI models and knowledge context? Or does it degrade with each generation?

Synthetic data can indeed be useful for further training AI models and expanding knowledge contexts, but its effectiveness and potential for degradation depend on several factors. Let's break this down:

Benefits of synthetic data:

  1. Data augmentation: Increases dataset size and diversity.
  2. Privacy preservation: Allows training on sensitive data without exposing real information.
  3. Addressing data scarcity: Helpful for rare events or underrepresented classes.
  4. Controlled experiments: Enables testing specific scenarios or edge cases.

Potential issues:

  1. Compounding errors: If not carefully managed, errors in synthetic data can amplify across generations.
  2. Distribution drift: Synthetic data may not perfectly capture the nuances of real-world distributions.
  3. Overfitting: Models trained exclusively on synthetic data may struggle with real-world generalization.
  4. Loss of subtle patterns: Some intricate real-world patterns might be lost in synthetic representations.

Degradation concerns:

The risk of degradation across generations (often called "model collapse" or "mode collapse" in some contexts) is a valid concern. However, it's not inevitable if proper techniques are employed:

  1. Mixing real and synthetic data: Using a combination can help maintain fidelity to real-world patterns.
  2. Periodic recalibration: Regularly incorporating new real data into the generative process.
  3. Quality metrics: Implementing robust evaluation methods to ensure synthetic data quality.
  4. Advanced techniques: Using methods like differential privacy or cycle-consistent adversarial networks to preserve data characteristics.

Best practices:

  1. Validate synthetic data: Rigorously test its quality and representativeness.
  2. Use hybrid approaches: Combine synthetic and real data in training.
  3. Monitor performance: Regularly assess models trained on synthetic data against real-world benchmarks.
  4. Iterative refinement: Continuously improve synthetic data generation techniques.

In conclusion, while synthetic data can be highly valuable for AI training and knowledge expansion, its effective use requires careful management and ongoing validation to prevent degradation and ensure it remains representative of the real-world phenomena it's meant to model.

How can a lack of real world generalizations be fixed? What can be done to make sure a model using synthetic data doesnt fall victim to this?

Addressing the lack of real-world generalization in models trained on synthetic data is crucial for their practical application.

Strategies to Improve Real-World Generalization of Models Trained on Synthetic Data

  • Data augmentation with real-world samples

Incorporate a portion of real-world data into the training set
Gradually increase the proportion of real data as training progresses

  • Domain randomization

Introduce random variations in synthetic data generation
Helps model learn invariant features that generalize better

  • Transfer learning

Pre-train on synthetic data, then fine-tune on smaller real-world dataset
Leverages large synthetic datasets while adapting to real-world nuances

Loading...
  • Ensemble methods

Combine models trained on different mixtures of synthetic and real data
Improves overall robustness and generalization

  • Continual learning

Periodically update model with new real-world data
Maintains relevance to changing real-world conditions

  • Extensive validation

Use diverse real-world test sets for evaluation
Identify and address specific generalization gaps

  • Synthetic data quality assessment

Develop metrics to evaluate synthetic data quality
Ensure synthetic data closely mimics real-world distributions

  • Domain expertise integration

Involve domain experts in synthetic data generation and validation
Ensures synthetic data captures crucial real-world aspects

I've created a comprehensive list of strategies to improve real-world generalization for models trained on synthetic data. These approaches aim to bridge the gap between synthetic and real-world data, ensuring that models can perform well in practical applications.

Key points to emphasize:

  1. Mixing real and synthetic data is crucial. Even a small amount of real-world data can significantly improve generalization.

  2. Diverse training approaches like domain randomization and curriculum learning help models learn more robust features.

  3. Continuous evaluation and updating are essential. The real world changes, and models need to adapt.

  4. Quality of synthetic data matters immensely. Investing in high-quality synthetic data generation can greatly reduce generalization issues.

To implement these strategies effectively, it's important to:

  1. Start with a clear understanding of your specific domain and the limitations of your synthetic data.
  2. Implement multiple strategies in combination for best results.
  3. Continuously monitor model performance on real-world data and be prepared to adjust your approach.

Russian government hackers found using exploits made by spyware companies NSO and Intellexa

Google said the findings were an example of how exploits developed by spyware makers can end up in the hands of "dangerous threat actors."

Google says it has evidence that Russian government hackers are using exploits that are “identical or strikingly similar” to those previously made by spyware makers Intellexa and NSO Group.

In a blog post on Thursday, Google said it is not sure how the Russian government acquired the exploits, but said this is an example of how exploits developed by spyware makers can end up in the hands of “dangerous threat actors.”

#newsonleo #spyware #hacking #russia #technology

In this case, Google says the threat actors are APT29, a group of hackers widely attributed to Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service, or the SVR. APT29 is a highly capable group of hackers, known for its long-running and persistent campaigns aimed at conducting espionage and data theft against a range of targets, including tech giants Microsoft and SolarWinds, as well as foreign governments.

Google said it found the hidden exploit code embedded on Mongolian government websites between November 2023 and July 2024. During this time, anyone who visited these sites using an iPhone or Android device could have had their phone hacked and data stolen, including passwords, in what is known as a “watering hole” attack.

The exploits took advantage of vulnerabilities in the iPhone’s Safari browser and Google Chrome on Android that had already been fixed at the time of the suspected Russian campaign. Still, those exploits nevertheless could be effective in compromising unpatched devices.

According to the blog post, the exploit targeting iPhones and iPads was designed to steal user account cookies stored in Safari specifically across a range of online email providers that host the personal and work accounts of the Mongolian government. The attackers could use the stolen cookies to then access those government accounts. Google said the campaign aimed at targeting Android devices used two separate exploits together to steal user cookies stored in the Chrome browser.

Google is working on AI that can hear signs of sickness

Given everything you’ve already heard about AI, you may not be surprised to learn that Google is among other outfits

Given everything you’ve already heard about AI, you may not be surprised to learn that Google is among other outfits beginning to use sound signals to predict early signs of disease.

How? According to Bloomberg, Google has trained its foundation AI model with 300 million pieces of audio that included coughs, sniffles, and labored breathing, to identify, for example, someone battling tuberculosis.

Illustrators who already have jobs and creations 'stolen' by AI: 'Fear of not being able to support myself'

The conversation that illustrator Lúcia Lemos, 30, had with a former client still echoes in her head.

“He told me that, no matter how good I was, my work was no longer worth hiring,” remembers Lúcia.

"He said: 'I hire you, and it takes you a week to make a drawing [for a book], now, I type a line of code and I get 20 drawings right away with artificial intelligence."

"Unfair" competition has affected Rio's illustrator's income considerably.

#newsonleo #technology #ai #art

When BBC News Brasil spoke to Lúcia, her expectation was to earn less than R$300 per month with the commissioned work.

Lúcia's example and the reports of other professionals show that illustrators are one of the groups of professionals in the creative industry who are at the forefront of the impact of the popularization of generative artificial intelligence (AI), that which creates new content, such as text, images, music, audio and videos, from a database.

Creative director and illustrator Wagner Loud, 33, says he has heard the same thing from former co-workers in São Paulo. In some companies, he says, illustration sectors have already been closed or reduced to a minimum.

"Those who used to sit down and think about art, with new ideas, now sit down and put keywords in the system to generate a new design. That's sad", comments Wagner.

The alarming situation has led to the creation of groups of artists who discuss the new scenario and propose finding solutions through proposed laws.

Singer and songwriter Marisa Monte is one of those who has used her voice to give visibility to the cause of artists, especially musicians.

She participated in a session in the Senate committee that discusses the bill that regulates artificial intelligence in Brazil, PL 2338.

OpenAI and Anthropic agree to let U.S. AI Safety Institute test and evaluate new models

The U.S. AI Safety Institute on Thursday announced it had come to a testing and evaluation agreement with OpenAI and Anthropic.

OpenAI and Anthropic, two of the most richly valued artificial intelligence startups, have agreed to let the U.S. AI Safety Institute test their new models before releasing them to the public, following increased concerns in the industry about safety and ethics in AI.

The institute, housed within the Department of Commerce at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), said in a press release that it will get "access to major new models from each company prior to and following their public release."

#ai #technology #openai #anthropic #newsonleo

The group was established after the Biden-Harris administration issued the U.S. government's first-ever executive order on artificial intelligence in October 2023, requiring new safety assessments, equity and civil rights guidance and research on AI's impact on the labor market.

"We are happy to have reached an agreement with the US AI Safety Institute for pre-release testing of our future models," OpenAI CEO Sam Altman wrote in a post on X. OpenAI also confirmed to CNBC on Thursday that, in the past year, the company has doubled its number of weekly active users from late last year to 200 million. Axios was first to report on the number.

The news comes a day after reports surfaced that OpenAI is in talks to raise a funding round valuing the company at more than $100 billion. Thrive Capital is leading the round and will invest $1 billion, according to a source with knowledge of the matter who asked not to be named because the details are confidential.

Anthropic, founded by ex-OpenAI research executives and employees, was most recently valued at $18.4 billion. Anthropic counts Amazon as a leading investor, while OpenAI is heavily backed by Microsoft.

Artificial intelligence improves lung cancer diagnosis

A team of researchers has created a digital pathology platform based on artificial intelligence.

#ai #research #cancer #lungcancer

Lung cancer is one of the most common tumours/cancers in humans and has a very high mortality rate. Today, the choice of treatment for patients with lung cancer is determined by pathological examination. Pathologists can also identify molecularly specific genetic changes that allow for personalized therapy.

Over the past few years, pathology has undergone a digital transformation. As a result, microscopes are no longer needed. Typical tissue sections are digitized and then analysed on a computer screen. Digitalization is crucial for the application of advanced analytical methods based on artificial intelligence. By using artificial intelligence, additional information about the cancer can be extracted from pathological tissue sections -- something that would not be possible without AI technology.

"We also show how the platform could be used to develop new clinical tools. The new tools can not only improve the quality of diagnosis, but also provide new types of information about the patient's disease, such as how the patient is responding to treatment," explained physician Dr Yuri Tolkach from the Institute of General Pathology and Pathological Anatomy at University Hospital Cologne, who led the study.

In order to prove the broad applicability of the platform, the research team will conduct a validation study together with five pathological institutes in Germany, Austria and Japan.

A team of researchers from the University of Cologne's Faculty of Medicine and University Hospital Cologne, led by Dr Yuri Tolkach and professor Dr Reinhard Büttner, has created a digital pathology platform based on artificial intelligence. The platform uses new algorithms developed by the team and enables fully automated analysis of tissue sections from lung cancer patients. The platform makes it possible to analyse digitized tissue samples on the computer for lung tumours more quickly and accurately than before. The study 'Next generation lung cancer pathology: development and validation of diagnostic and prognostic algorithms' has been published in the journal Cell Reports Medicine.

DIFFUSION MODELS ARE REAL-TIME GAME ENGINES

ABSTRACT
We present GameNGen, the first game engine powered entirely by a neural modelthat enables real-time interaction with a complex environment over long trajectories at high quality. GameNGen can interactively simulate the classic game DOOM at over 20 frames per second on a single TPU. Next frame prediction achieves a PSNR of 29.4, comparable to lossy JPEG compression. Human raters are only slightly better than random chance at distinguishing short clips of the game from clips of the simulation. GameNGen is trained in two phases:

(1) an RL-agent learns to play the game and the training sessions are recorded, and

(2) a diffusion model is trained to produce the next frame, conditioned on the sequence of past frames and actions. Conditioning augmentations enable stable auto-regressive generation over long trajectories.

Hydrogels can play Pong by 'remembering' previous patterns of electrical simulation

Non-living hydrogels can play the video game Pong and improve their gameplay with more experience, researchers report.

"Ionic hydrogels can achieve the same kind of memory mechanics as more complex neural networks," says first author and robotics engineer Vincent Strong of the University of Reading. "We showed that hydrogels are not only able to play Pong; they can actually get better at it over time."

The researchers were inspired by a previous study that showed that brain cells in a dish can learn to play Pong if they are electrically stimulated in a way that gives them feedback on their performance.

#hydrogels #technology

"Our paper addresses the question of whether simple artificial systems can compute closed loops similar to the feedback loops that allow our brains to control our bodies," says corresponding author and biomedical engineer Yoshikatsu Hayashi of the University of Reading. "The basic principle in both neurons and hydrogels is that ion migration and distributions can work as a memory function that can correlate with sensory-motor loops in the Pong world. In neurons, ions run within the cells; in the gel, they run outside."

Hydrogels are complex polymers that become jelly like when hydrated -- gelatin and agar are natural examples. In this case, the researchers used an "electro-active polymer," meaning a hydrogel that can respond to electrical stimulation thanks to the presence of ions (charged particles) in the media surrounding its polymer matrix. When the hydrogel is electrically stimulated, the ions move, dragging water molecules with them, and this movement causes the hydrogel to temporarily change shape.

What is the difference between the Portuguese in Brazil as compared to Portugal?

In addition to the accent, which in some regions in Brazil, the accent is not very similar.

Some words have different meanings and are even funny.

One example is the word bicha (fag). In Portugal it means queue while in Brazil, in addition to being the feminine of "animal", it is also a vulgar term for a "homosexual".

Ah okay. Yes I can see a lot of that being a problem. It is why we need people to fill this with a lot of stuff from their language.

I think it's kinda like American English and British English... some words have different meanings and the accent is a VERY different but all in all we can understand one another without much difficulty

I see. Who is right? Because we fixed what the Brits messed up. LOL

Oh we are right, 100%. In fact, some parents in Portugal got really mad recently because a brazilian YouTube went viral among Portugal kids and they started to mimic our accent and use our slang... so yea, even them are making the switch

For example, the word "rapariga", in Portugal means girl but in Brazil is a very offensive word that means whore

In many situations, it is probably more accurate. LOL

Welcome to The #fitnesscast – Day 4!

A daily #threadcast for fitness and physical health, where the goal is to motivate and inspire each other to get/stay active in our daily routines.

In this threadcast you can discuss and share anything relating physical health. Tell us about your training program, your goals and your progress. Learn from what others are doing, and share your own knowledge. Use the blockchain to hold yourself accountable and get rewarded for your efforts!

Example topics

  • How many steps did you take today?
  • Did you do any other activities?
  • Did you excercise? If so how
  • How did it go?
  • Summary of your #actifit report
  • Summary of your #hiverun report
  • How does exercise fit into your daily life, i.e. what works for you?

If you have any suggestions for how this threadcast should work, don't hesitate to share your thoughts below.

Let's get moving! 💪🏃‍♀️

Thanks for sharing! I should probably know this, but .. how is that activity count calculated?

on iPhones it‘s the step count synced from the health app

Aha. 7600 steps is a good walk. Do you have a daily target for steps taken?

that‘s a shorter one, i‘m trying to get at least 10k steps a day

That's a good goal. And from your previous logs, it seems like you usually have no problem reaching it? Mine is set at 9350 steps, but I think I also typically reach around 10k

I started my day as usual with the Pranayama routine. It's so refreshing and calming.

Love to hear about your consistency. I have yet to try it myself, but I have bookmarked the video you tipped me off about

It's very easy and fun way to stay fit and relax with robust energy.

I think you're right about that. Have you heard about Adam Ondra? He's one of (if not) the best climbers in the world. He says he does nidra yoga every single day (I think it's similar to this right?)

The Pranayama I shared, works on your whole body. Bastrika on lungs, kapal Bhatti all internal organs, any blockages in the body, any stone in the kidneys or gall bladder, every cell. Anulom Vilom helps deal all the nervous system and any mental health issues like stress, anxiety. Anulom Vilom is also good to get rid of your 👓 specs if we do it regularly for 15 minutes at least. Immense benefits.

that sounds pretty amazing. Okay consider me inspired. I will try it tomorrow morning

A yoga nidra.

Right. So how does this compare to what you do?

Well yes nidra yoga is good for relaxation calming all your muscles and cells, when an expert gives commands while you lay down in shivasana.

Ah sorry, I didn't see this response. Right! That was roughly my understanding as well

It is not recommended at this speed for beginners or people having any hypertensive diseases. Always be gentle and do it very slow.

It‘s not really obvious what he´s doing there in every excercise, breathing in or out, through the nose or mouth, brest or belly …

Here it is the detailed explanation: All breathing is till the diaphragm, nothing in belly.

Bastrika Pranayama: We breathe with equal emphasis in and out till the diaphragm, through the nostrils.

Kapalbhatti Pranayama: We expel by pushing the belly forcefully; the inhalation is only passive. ! Stroke for one second.

Anulom Vilom Pranayama: Alternate nostril breathing without holding the breath. Always start breathing in from the left nostril and breathe out from the right nostril, then breathe in from the right nostril and breathe out from the left nostril. This is one cycle.

😱

Amazing. How many days do you typically need restitution, before you can go on another run after a run like this?

depends mostly on how hot it is outside. I tend to lose a lot of water weight. So one time I lost 4kg after a run and then it took a couple of day to restore my body 😅

Hello friends! May your Friday be amazing and I wish you a great weekend.

Thank you and likewise, Tiago!

I think the snake was hungry.

Do you use any device to measure your steps when walking or running?

I use a Garmin watch to track my steps, and also my running and strength excercise.

I'll look into it here, I didn't know about Garmin.

These devices are increasingly modernizing.

Here is an example from YouTube

Walk at Home -- 1 Mile Power Walk | At Home Workouts | Walk at Home

I have to get back into it. This last week I've had sinus headaches and a sore throat from allergens in the air. Even exercising indoors has not been an option. That's what I usually do anyway.

Ahh allergies. My colleague is also terribly affected by it in spring. It is most unfair that some have to struggle so much with it. I hope the situation gets better sooner rather than later

Thanks for that! I am sick of feeling like I have a cold when I don't. I guess it ticks me off cuz it is something I can't control. 😂

yeah, it's sort of almost provoking actually, from nature's side, when you think of it. Yeah I hope it loosens up for you soon!

I've heard about those. That movement gotta be good for those rotator cuffs too

Yes... a lot of benefits using them. This one is not heavy but I wanted to learn the movement first. I should buy a heavier one soon.

However, when I do exercise this is my go to.
https://walktv.walkathome.com/catalog.
I pay for the app. It's on my TV.
But there are alot of free videos from Leslie Sansone on YouTube.
She has alot of different coaches leading the workouts and there is toning along with them.

Looks like a good program, especially if you prefer to work out at home. I have a similar approach when I do yoga, as I hate going to yoga studios. I always follow the same video xD

I like it because there is no crazy choreography to try and follow. I remember the Richard Simmons videos. You're probably too young but I could never keep up with those.

Not him in particular, but I have seen some crazy stuff in the category too, for sure xD

I recently switched up my diet to eat a lot less meat. I still eat it, but instead of having meat for dinner almost every day, I now eat vegetarian 4-5 days a week.

How many vegetarian meals do you eat a week?

Most of the exercise I've done in my life is strength training, I have not focused much upon cardio/running until about a year ago. Someone here on InLeo that really inspires me with regard to running is @anderssinho. He mentioned he had plans this week to do a 20km run! Hopefully he will share a bit about it with us here.

There might be an announcement later today regarding a collaboration with Actifit, which is really exciting. We're still ironing out the details, but hopefully we'll have some news for you in that regard later today

We continue our quest to maintain a positive and motivational environment to stay active and healthy and hold ourselves accountable

I know our fitness-guru @calebmarvel01 is ready, he's already done some serious training videos today.

I also made a blog post on the fitness stuffs 😂😂😂😂...

I posted a link to it in the fitnesscast :)

Alright 👍👍..

Today was my first proper training session since Monday. I've had terrible sleep this past week which has left me fatigued. Luckily I slept very well tonight and is now feeling much better

Today's workout report:

Warmup

  • Misc. dynamic stretching exercises
  • 8x burpees

Sets

  • 7x Barbell squat - 60 kg (132 lb)
  • 2x Bulgiaran split squats: 20kg/24kg (44/52 lb)

Self assessment:

As you can see I do pretty short workouts. I try to make them short and often, rather than long and rarer. Today I still felt weak after all the poor sleep lately. I did not perform nearly as well as I usually do. Note to self: Go to sleep earlier

I started the day with my regular 10 push-ups and 10 airsquats. Starting to feel stronger again. I want to increase the amount of push-ups I'm able to do each morning

It appears I have been challenged. I guess we'll see, Caleb xD

Our upbringing and the lessons our parents and other early caregivers teach help shape many of our decisions about relationships, careers, lifestyles, and expressing our feelings and skills. Does our young generation clearly contrast with the present social scene? Has our relatives' system changed?

We find fault with ourselves, live in the past, and punish ourselves going forward. This is known as self-sabotage.

Ground yourself in the here and now and let the judgmental attitude you developed go away. Today, let go of your self-criticism and pardon yourself. Those days are over. Let's pause to recognize that we constantly try our best, regardless of circumstances.
