SpaceX will launch a team of four private astronauts 1,400 km above Earth on a risky mission aimed at the first spacewalk by a private spacecraft.
The Polaris Dawn mission is the first of three manned space flights that will culminate in the first human spaceflight on SpaceX spacecraft, a startup owned by billionaire Elon Musk.
The “Polaris Program” is made up of three human-manned space missions to improve SpaceX’s capabilities. Once they are completed, the next mission will be to fly with humans for the first time on Starship, which is currently in the testing phase.
“The Polaris Program is an important step toward human space exploration and, at the same time, toward solving problems on Earth through innovative technologies,” said billionaire Jared Isaacman, commander of the Polaris Program.
He previously commanded the world's first civilian mission in orbit, Inspiration4, in September 2021. “Throughout the mission, our goal will be to inspire humanity to look up and imagine what we can achieve here on Earth and in worlds beyond our own”, he states.
The Polaris Dawn mission will launch in the coming days, until SpaceX confirms that the weather is favorable for the flight and return. Liftoff will take place at Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The astronauts will be in a SpaceX Dragon capsule inside a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The Polaris Dawn crew will spend up to five days in orbit, flying higher than any other Dragon mission to date and reaching the highest Earth orbit ever visited.
Toymaker Lego said on Wednesday it is on track to replace the fossil fuels used to make its unique bricks with more expensive renewable and recycled plastic by 2032, after signing deals with producers to ensure long-term supply.
Lego, which sells billions of plastic bricks annually, has tested more than 600 different materials to develop a new material that would completely replace its petroleum-based bricks by 2030, but with limited success.
Now, Lego aims to gradually reduce the oil content in its bricks by paying up to 70% more for certified renewable resin, the raw plastic used to make the bricks, in a bid to encourage manufacturers to increase production.

SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket will be held back for the second time in two months so that US federal regulators can investigate the failed landing attempt that occurred on Wednesday morning (28).
This makes the Falcon 9 rocket unavailable for two important space missions on SpaceX's horizon: Polaris Dawn and Crew-9.
It's unclear how long the Falcon 9 will remain grounded. After a similar accident in July, the rocket was banned from flying for a few weeks.
The company aimed to launch a bold mission called Polaris Dawn later this week, and next month it hoped to fly two NASA astronauts to the International Space Station on Crew-9, a mission that will also bring home the Boeing Starliner test flight crew. — after months trapped in space.
NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore have been in orbital laboratory limbo since Starliner experienced technical problems after their flight in early June.
Wednesday's incident involved the first stage of the Falcon 9 rocket — the lower part of the spacecraft, which provides the first burst of energy at liftoff — which failed to land vertically on a sea platform and exploded.
The overall mission, however, appeared to go off without a hitch, safely delivering a batch of SpaceX's Starlink internet satellites into orbit.

The court issued a statement via its government website in Brazil on Friday, saying that it had ordered "the immediate and complete suspension of the operation of X, formerly Twitter, throughout the national territory until the Court's judicial decisions are complied with and the fines applied are paid." The statement also said that the order will be valid "until a representative of the company in the country is appointed."

With Gmail Q&A, users can access Google Gemini in the Gmail app as a personal assistant that can read your entire email inbox. Google says you can ask Gemini to summarize emails by stating things like, “Catch me up on the emails about quarterly planning.” You can also use the feature to search for specific details, such as asking Gemini, “How much did the company spend on the last marketing event?”
Of course, you’ll have to bear with occasional hallucinations that plague even the best AI models when using this feature, so maybe don’t trust everything it tells you.
Traditionally, if you wanted to find information in your Gmail, you could use the search bar at the top of Google. That’s not going away, but the Gemini button will be added next to the search bar. This is all part of Google’s paradigm shift away from search and toward AI chat. Instead of locating the original email through search, Gmail is pushing users to have an AI chatbot summarize the info they’re looking for. However, it will still cite the source email in its answer.
Paying users can access the feature by clicking the black star logo, which has come to represent Gemini across Google’s product suite, in the top-right corner of the app. For now, the Gmail Q&A feature only has access to your emails, but in the future, Google says it will connect to files in your Drive account, as well.
In June, Gmail Q&A was rolled out to web users of Gmail who pay for Gemini or Google One AI Premium. These users pay roughly $20 a month for AI features like this, part of Google’s product and application layer around Gemini.

It all began in 2017 when Josh Sitzer and his wife listed their home for sale in Kansas City. The couple was frustrated by the fact they had to pay a 3% commission to a buyer’s agent.
“Due to the anti-competitive structure of the industry before the lawsuit, I, as the seller, was effectively coerced into paying 3% of my home’s selling price to a buyer’s agent in order to achieve a successful sale,” he told TechCrunch. “While hiring agents is a choice for many, I don’t believe anyone should be bullied into paying for undesired services due to unfair industry practices,” he added.
Sitzer shared his frustration with his neighbor, who happened to be a lawyer familiar with the subject matter. By 2019, he and other homeowners had filed a class-action lawsuit (Moehrl et al. v. National Association of Realtors, et al.) against the NAR. They received a verdict last year that resulted in a settlement earlier this year that will radically change how home real estate is sold.

When streaming to connected devices via Spotify Connect on iOS, users were previously able to use the physical buttons on their iPhone to adjust the volume. But this will no longer work.
Spotify claims Apple may again be in violation of European regulation, the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which requires interoperability from big technology companies dubbed “gatekeepers.” This time, the issue isn’t about in-app purchases, links or pricing information, but rather how Apple has discontinued the technology that allows Spotify users to control the volume on their connected devices.
When streaming to connected devices via Spotify Connect on iOS, users were previously able to use the physical buttons on the side of their iPhone to adjust the volume. As a result of the change, this will no longer work.
To work around the issue, Spotify iOS users will instead be directed to use the volume slider in the Spotify Connect menu in the app to control the volume on connected devices.

Google says it has evidence that Russian government hackers are using exploits that are “identical or strikingly similar” to those previously made by spyware makers Intellexa and NSO Group.
In a blog post on Thursday, Google said it is not sure how the Russian government acquired the exploits, but said this is an example of how exploits developed by spyware makers can end up in the hands of “dangerous threat actors.”
In this case, Google says the threat actors are APT29, a group of hackers widely attributed to Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service, or the SVR. APT29 is a highly capable group of hackers, known for its long-running and persistent campaigns aimed at conducting espionage and data theft against a range of targets, including tech giants Microsoft and SolarWinds, as well as foreign governments.
Google said it found the hidden exploit code embedded on Mongolian government websites between November 2023 and July 2024. During this time, anyone who visited these sites using an iPhone or Android device could have had their phone hacked and data stolen, including passwords, in what is known as a “watering hole” attack.
The exploits took advantage of vulnerabilities in the iPhone’s Safari browser and Google Chrome on Android that had already been fixed at the time of the suspected Russian campaign. Still, those exploits nevertheless could be effective in compromising unpatched devices.
According to the blog post, the exploit targeting iPhones and iPads was designed to steal user account cookies stored in Safari specifically across a range of online email providers that host the personal and work accounts of the Mongolian government. The attackers could use the stolen cookies to then access those government accounts. Google said the campaign aimed at targeting Android devices used two separate exploits together to steal user cookies stored in the Chrome browser.

The U.S. AI Safety Institute on Thursday announced it had come to a testing and evaluation agreement with OpenAI and Anthropic.
OpenAI and Anthropic, two of the most richly valued artificial intelligence startups, have agreed to let the U.S. AI Safety Institute test their new models before releasing them to the public, following increased concerns in the industry about safety and ethics in AI.
The institute, housed within the Department of Commerce at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), said in a press release that it will get "access to major new models from each company prior to and following their public release."
The group was established after the Biden-Harris administration issued the U.S. government's first-ever executive order on artificial intelligence in October 2023, requiring new safety assessments, equity and civil rights guidance and research on AI's impact on the labor market.
"We are happy to have reached an agreement with the US AI Safety Institute for pre-release testing of our future models," OpenAI CEO Sam Altman wrote in a post on X. OpenAI also confirmed to CNBC on Thursday that, in the past year, the company has doubled its number of weekly active users from late last year to 200 million. Axios was first to report on the number.
The news comes a day after reports surfaced that OpenAI is in talks to raise a funding round valuing the company at more than $100 billion. Thrive Capital is leading the round and will invest $1 billion, according to a source with knowledge of the matter who asked not to be named because the details are confidential.
Anthropic, founded by ex-OpenAI research executives and employees, was most recently valued at $18.4 billion. Anthropic counts Amazon as a leading investor, while OpenAI is heavily backed by Microsoft.
Lung cancer is one of the most common tumours/cancers in humans and has a very high mortality rate. Today, the choice of treatment for patients with lung cancer is determined by pathological examination. Pathologists can also identify molecularly specific genetic changes that allow for personalized therapy.
Over the past few years, pathology has undergone a digital transformation. As a result, microscopes are no longer needed. Typical tissue sections are digitized and then analysed on a computerscreen. Digitalization is crucial for the application of advanced analytical methods based on artificial intelligence. By using artificial intelligence, additional information about the cancer can be extracted from pathological tissue sections -- something that would not be possible without AI technology.
"We also show how the platform could be used to develop new clinical tools. The new tools can not only improve the quality of diagnosis, but also provide new types of information about the patient's disease, such as how the patient is responding to treatment," explained physician Dr Yuri Tolkach from the Institute of General Pathology and Pathological Anatomy at UniversityHospital Cologne, who led the study.
In order to prove the broad applicability of the platform, the research team will conduct a validation study together with five pathological institutes in Germany, Austria and Japan.

We present GameNGen, the first game engine powered entirely by a neural modelthat enables real-time interaction with a complex environment over long trajectories at high quality. GameNGen can interactively simulate the classic game DOOM at over 20 frames per second on a single TPU. Next frame prediction achieves a PSNR of 29.4, comparable to lossy JPEG compression. Human raters are only slightly better than random chance at distinguishing short clips of the game from clips of the simulation. GameNGen is trained in two phases:
(1) an RL-agent learns to play the game and the training sessions are recorded, and
(2) a diffusion model is trained to produce the next frame, conditioned on the sequence of past frames and actions. Conditioning augmentations enable stable auto-regressive generation over long trajectories.
Non-living hydrogels can play the video game Pong and improve their gameplay with more experience, researchers report.
"Ionic hydrogels can achieve the same kind of memory mechanics as more complex neural networks," says first author and robotics engineer Vincent Strong of the University of Reading. "We showed that hydrogels are not only able to play Pong; they can actually get better at it over time."
The researchers were inspired by a previous study that showed that brain cells in a dish can learn to play Pong if they are electrically stimulated in a way that gives them feedback on their performance.
"Our paper addresses the question of whether simple artificial systems can compute closed loops similar to the feedback loops that allow our brains to control our bodies," says corresponding author and biomedical engineer Yoshikatsu Hayashi of the University of Reading. "The basic principle in both neurons and hydrogels is that ion migration and distributions can work as a memory function that can correlate with sensory-motor loops in the Pong world. In neurons, ions run within the cells; in the gel, they run outside."
Hydrogels are complex polymers that become jelly like when hydrated -- gelatin and agar are natural examples. In this case, the researchers used an "electro-active polymer," meaning a hydrogel that can respond to electrical stimulation thanks to the presence of ions (charged particles) in the media surrounding its polymer matrix. When the hydrogel is electrically stimulated, the ions move, dragging water molecules with them, and this movement causes the hydrogel to temporarily change shape.

SpaceX will launch a team of four private astronauts 1,400 km above Earth on a risky mission aimed at the first spacewalk by a private spacecraft.
The Polaris Dawn mission is the first of three manned space flights that will culminate in the first human spaceflight on SpaceX spacecraft, a startup owned by billionaire Elon Musk.

The “Polaris Program” is made up of three human-manned space missions to improve SpaceX’s capabilities. Once they are completed, the next mission will be to fly with humans for the first time on Starship, which is currently in the testing phase.
“The Polaris Program is an important step toward human space exploration and, at the same time, toward solving problems on Earth through innovative technologies,” said billionaire Jared Isaacman, commander of the Polaris Program.
He previously commanded the world's first civilian mission in orbit, Inspiration4, in September 2021. “Throughout the mission, our goal will be to inspire humanity to look up and imagine what we can achieve here on Earth and in worlds beyond our own”, he states.
The Polaris Dawn mission will launch in the coming days, until SpaceX confirms that the weather is favorable for the flight and return. Liftoff will take place at Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The astronauts will be in a SpaceX Dragon capsule inside a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Now, Lego aims to gradually reduce the oil content in its bricks by paying up to 70% more for certified renewable resin, the raw plastic used to make the bricks, in a bid to encourage manufacturers to increase production.

It's unclear how long the Falcon 9 will remain grounded. After a similar accident in July, the rocket was banned from flying for a few weeks.

In June, Gmail Q&A was rolled out to web users of Gmail who pay for Gemini or Google One AI Premium. These users pay roughly $20 a month for AI features like this, part of Google’s product and application layer around Gemini.

Google said it found the hidden exploit code embedded on Mongolian government websites between November 2023 and July 2024. Over the past few years, pathology has undergone a digital transformation. As a result, microscopes are no longer needed. Typical tissue sections are digitized and then analysed on a computer screen. Digitalization is crucial for the application of advanced analytical methods based on artificial intelligence. By using artificial intelligence, additional information about the cancer can be extracted from pathological tissue sections -- something that would not be possible without AI technology.
"We also show how the platform could be used to develop new clinical tools. The new tools can not only improve the quality of diagnosis, but also provide new types of information about the patient's disease, such as how the patient is responding to treatment," explained physician Dr Yuri Tolkach from the Institute of General Pathology and Pathological Anatomy at University Hospital Cologne, who led the study.
In order to prove the broad applicability of the platform, the research team will conduct a validation study together with five pathological institutes in Germany, Austria and Japan.

Here it is the detailed explanation: All breathing is till the diaphragm, nothing in belly.
Bastrika Pranayama: We breathe with equal emphasis in and out till the diaphragm, through the nostrils.
Kapalbhatti Pranayama: We expel by pushing the belly forcefully; the inhalation is only passive. ! Stroke for one second.
Anulom Vilom Pranayama: Alternate nostril breathing without holding the breath. Always start breathing in from the left nostril and breathe out from the right nostril, then breathe in from the right nostril and breathe out from the left nostril. This is one cycle.

depends mostly on how hot it is outside. I tend to lose a lot of water weight. So one time I lost 4kg after a run and then it took a couple of day to restore my body 😅

I have to get back into it. This last week I've had sinus headaches and a sore throat from allergens in the air. Even exercising indoors has not been an option. That's what I usually do anyway.
Ahh allergies. My colleague is also terribly affected by it in spring. It is most unfair that some have to struggle so much with it. I hope the situation gets better sooner rather than later

I recently switched up my diet to eat a lot less meat. I still eat it, but instead of having meat for dinner almost every day, I now eat vegetarian 4-5 days a week.
How many vegetarian meals do you eat a week?
Most of the exercise I've done in my life is strength training, I have not focused much upon cardio/running until about a year ago. Someone here on InLeo that really inspires me with regard to running is @anderssinho. He mentioned he had plans this week to do a 20km run! Hopefully he will share a bit about it with us here.

Today was my first proper training session since Monday. I've had terrible sleep this past week which has left me fatigued. Luckily I slept very well tonight and is now feeling much better

As you can see I do pretty short workouts. I try to make them short and often, rather than long and rarer. Today I still felt weak after all the poor sleep lately. I did not perform nearly as well as I usually do. Note to self: Go to sleep earlier
I started the day with my regular 10 push-ups and 10 airsquats. Starting to feel stronger again. I want to increase the amount of push-ups I'm able to do each morning

I do not like drinking and I want to be in my senses. Every person has their own capacity, some of them become out of control after a little consumption and some do not get effected even after they take a heavy quantity. Many of them knows their limits but still most of them go out of control when they start drinking. Fortunately I do not have habit of drinking or smoking and I am glad that I am out of few which are totally avoiding them.

I am belongs to the North side of country and marriages in north are celebrated heavily. Along with the food and dance the drinks are the also part of it. Drinks are not mandatory but it becomes the part of function now days.
