"We need to set the right foundations for Europe to thrive as an ecosystem," Riparbelli told CNBC's Arjun Kharpal Monday.
"It's great that we invest more in infrastructure. I don't think it's the sole solution to the problem. There's lots of other things we need to worry about as well. But what I think is really great, is there's political will to actually do something," he added.

So we can see a balanced Republican government of three bodies: Gerousia, Assembly, and Ephors, remarkably similar to the Roman Republic which would come along two hundred years later. Seeing a similar structure in Greece and Rome, separated by time and space, one can’t help thinking that the Republic was a natural development of human society – the bridge system between autocrats and democracy.
Moving along in the evolution of the Spartan government, we again turn to Plutarch. “The second and the boldest of political reforms of Sparta was the redistribution of the land. Great inequalities existed, many poor and needy people had become a burden to the state, while wealth had got into a very few hands.”
Prior to the advent of its militaristic model Sparta, like many of the other Greek Poleis, was managed by an aristocratic faction. We talked previously about splinter experiments in new government, like the Basileus as a military leader, which failed to catch on. But at some point, possibly the mid-eight century B.C, the Spartan political system began to evolve in a unique direction. Was Lycurgus the prime mover? Maybe, but there were certainly forces at work moving the Spartans toward equality whether or not they were driven by a single individual.
The foundational step was the creation of the Council of Elders, which as Plato stated had the effect of “cooling the high fever or royalty” and since the Elders had equal vote with the kings, they could bring “caution and sobriety to their deliberations”. The Gerousia and was made up of thirty members including the two kings.
Musk now has a competitor in the AI market, a startup called xAI, and is suing OpenAI, accusing it of antitrust violations and to try and keep it from converting into a for-profit corporation.
Meanwhile, OpenAI partnered with SoftBank and Oracle in a project announced by Trump right after his inauguration called Stargate, which calls on the companies to invest billions of dollars in AI infrastructure in the U.S.
Musk's offer is backed by xAI, which the Journal reports could merge with OpenAI if a deal were to occur. Other investors in the bid include Valor Equity Partners, Baron Capital, 8VC and Ari Emanuel's investment fund, the paper reported.
The newspaper owner said it was determining what data, if any, was stolen.
Lee Enterprises, a media giant that owns dozens of newspapers across the United States, has confirmed a cyberattack on its systems is behind ongoing disruption at dozens of newspapers and media outlets across the United States.
In an email shared with customers sent Friday, which TechCrunch has seen, Lee CEO Kevin Mowbray said the company was working to “fully restore our systems” following a cyberattack earlier in the week.
Tracy Rouch, a spokesperson for Lee Enterprises, confirmed to TechCrunch that the outages were caused by a “cybersecurity event” and that the company was “now focused on determining what information — if any — may have been affected by the situation.”
The spokesperson declined to say if it had received any communication from the hackers, or if it had a timeline for recovery. The company would not say if it has the technical means, such as logs, to determine if any information was accessed or stolen.
Lee did not describe the nature of the cyberattack, nor would the company comment beyond its email.
The IRON DOME Act is designed to align with President Trump’s “Iron Dome for America” executive order.

The proposed legislation, the Increasing Response Options and Deterrence of Missile Engagements (IRON DOME) Act, seeks to overhaul and expand the U.S. missile defense system to improve security against potential nuclear missile threats.
The IRON DOME Act comes at a time when geopolitical tensions have escalated, particularly with the advancements in missile technology by nations such as China and Russia.
Fei-Fei Li, the Stanford researcher who also founded World Labs, was invited to the Grand Palais in Paris on Monday to give the opening speech at the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit which is taking place this week.
While she shared some of her talking points over the weekend, her stance on AI regulation and the AI ecosystem as a whole was interesting. She managed to appear both pro-business and anti-Big Tech/big AI labs at the same time.
“We need to invest in far healthier and more vibrant AI ecosystems where academia and the community can produce,” she told conference delegates. “Open-source communities and the public sector can all participate and play their critical role alongside big companies in driving this technology forward. If AI is going to change the world, we need everyone from all walks of life to have a role in shaping this change.”
“If these resources are concentrated in only a handful of companies, the AI ecosystem will suffer from the lack of curiosity-driven research, top educational talents, open-source efforts, and multidisciplinary explorations,” Fei-Fei added.
DeepSeek's AI model "is probably the best work" out of China, Demis Hassabis said on Sunday, but added it was not a scientific advancement.
Last month, China's DeepSeek released a research paper that rattled global markets after claiming its AI model was trained at a fraction of the cost of leading AI players and on less-advanced Nvidia chips.
DeepSeek's announcement sparked an aggressive stock sell-off and sparked considerable debate over whether large tech firms are spending too much on AI infrastructure.
Hassabis praised DeepSeek's model as "an impressive piece of work."
"I think its probably the best work I've seen come out of China," Hassabis said at a Google-hosted event in Paris ahead of the AI Action Summit that is being hosted by the city.
The DeepMind CEO said the AI model shows that DeepSeek can do "extremely good engineering" and that it "changes things on a geopolitical scale."
However, from a technology point of view, Hassabis said it was not a big change.
"Despite the hype, there's no actual new scientific advance … it's using known techniques [in AI]," he said, adding that the hype around DeepSeek has been "exaggerated a little bit."
Macron announced the mammoth investment sum ahead of France's AI Action Summit, where world leaders and tech bosses are gathering in Paris this week.
France's artificial intelligence sector will receive 109 billion euros ($112.6 billion) of private investment in the "coming years," President Emmanuel Macron announced Sunday ahead of the country's global AI summit.
Speaking with French broadcaster TF1, Macron described the multibillion-euro pledge as "the equivalent for France of what the United States announced with Stargate," referring to U.S. President Donald Trump's massive $500 billion private AI investment project.
The U.S. joint venture, dubbed Stargate, will see OpenAI, Oracle and SoftBank spend up to $500 billion on AI infrastructure in America over the next four years.
Meanwhile, the French financing will include commitments from the United Arab Emirates, American and Canadian investments funds and French companies like telecommunications firms Iliad and Orange, and aerospace and defense group Thales.
A few days before France's AI Action Summit, which kicked off on Monday, the UAE said it would invest between 30 billion euros and 50 billion euros in the construction of a one-gigawatt AI data center in France as part of a campus focused on the technology's development.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Elon Musk and a group of investors are offering $97.4 billion to take control of OpenAI.
The bid is for the nonprofit that oversees the artificial intelligence startup, the Journal reported, adding that Musk's attorney, Marc Toberoff, said he submitted the offer on Monday.
The WSJ cited a statement from Musk provided by Toberoff, saying "It's time for OpenAI to return to the open-source, safety-focused force for good it once was."
In a post on X, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman wrote, "no thank you but we will buy twitter for $9.74 billion if you want."

Undoubtedly, a training mode is essential for new players to develop. Maybe I have a minimal chance to play well, because I play relatively bad hahaha.
Remember that hashtags related to the topic of the article, must be placed in the first thread. The amount of hashtags in this case, would be fine, but they are just poorly positioned, as I mentioned above.
Also, the last thread is always (at least in LeoThreads) free of hashtags. Not so when you share on X, which requires the hashtags hive and inleo.
Summarizer #devlog update, Feb 10th
I'm taking steps to decentralize the summary database. This makes the project a lot more resilient, as we will no longer be dependent on the centralized databases running on my servers. It is also an effort to open up the summarization project for anyone to join.
The summary database, currently consisting of 42k+ summarized videos and counting, will get posted to hive as custom JSONs over the course of this week. This is the foundation on which Summarytools front-end is being built. It also opens up the door for anyone else to build apps/front-ends to tap into and contribute to the data as well. The new front-end will be ready for you guys before long.
Work has been slow, as I've been dealing with a lot of stuff personally for the past month, but that doesn't mean that I've stopped thinking or planning during this time. I deeply appreciate all your support, even during this period of lower activity from me. Updates soon to follow.

Thats a good idea. You should also look into the issue that you dont get notifications from account with to low rep. That means any newcomer will have a tougher time.
